Part Four of Five
So great to see Bagley drawing Ultimate Kitty again, it has been a while since he drew her when she use to date Peter Parker.
The X-men are in New York City. If you were like me, and complained about how issue three had the X-Men on the cover but not in the issue, this issue makes up for it big time. I do enjoy that Bendis enjoys Kitty Pryde almost as much as I do.
There is absolutely no reference to the Cataclysm X-Men miniseries. James Howlett and Rogue are standing with the rest of the X-Men, as if nothing out of the ordinary happened. The team is Kitty Pryde, still in that white outfit, Jean Grey, Magma, Iceman, Colossus, Derek Morgan and Storm.
Kitty wants to do something but she isn’t sure what to do. Then a helicopter shows up, Captain America needs her, nay, the world needs her. I like how the X-Men are mad, as Cap completely let them down during Reservation X, not getting involved when the military showed up.
I like how as soon as Kitty gets there, Reed wants her to pee in a cup, get a blood sample and a pap smear. They have plans on turning her into a giant. Sue steps in to give Kitty a better experience with a doctor with a good bed side manner.
Tony hugs Kitty, which he also didn’t help the X-Men when the military showed up.
Tony notices that Jean standing around and wants her to use a Cerebro to read Galactus’ mind, to find out if she can find out his weakness. Which is odd, as shouldn’t that be on the flashdrive that Reed and Miles got from the proper Marvel Universe.
They tell Kitty it is a suicide mission and she fully accepts it. They want her to become a giant, so that she can phase through Galactus’ machinery. Also, while she is there, she should slap Galactus around.
Jean reads Galactus’ mind. She reveals his thoughts – he’s hungry, desperate, he knows he is on an Earth but not his, he wonders if he can get back there and he isn’t sure how he got to this universe.
Then he notices that someone is reading his mind and this angers him. Thor flies out of the base and Galactus starts throwing him around. Galactus shouts, I hunger!
Captain America jumps into a jet and with Storm, they start attacking Galactus. They are only merely distracting him so that Kitty can get ready.
Galactus back hands Cap’s jet. He sets the plane onto a course for Galactus’ head. We see a panel of him clearly running for an exit. We then see Cap’s plane crash. We see that the SHIELD Hellicarrier take some blasts and crashes into the ground. Issue ends with Galactus shouting, I hunger. No explanation mark, this time.
I’m pretty sure Cap isn’t dead, like how the cover shows. Or at least, how people thought it meant. Sort of like Xavier dying in AvX issue eleven, and how it only looked like was knocked on to his back, it wasn’t until the next issue that it was confirmed. Actually, it wasn’t until Tom Brevoort did interviews that we learned Xavier was really dead.
Next issue, anyone can be dead. I’m sure Cap is dead but it looks like he should have made it to safety. Though, I’m not sure where safety could be in that situation.
. . .
So, it has taken a full month to create a Top Ten list :
1. All New X-Men 22
2. Guardians of the Galaxy 11
3. Cataclysm 4
4. X-Men Legacy 22
5. Uncanny X-Men 16
6. Marvel Knights X-Men 3
7. Savage Wolverine 13
8. All New X-Men 21
9. Wolverine 13
10. Cataclysm 3
Hastings didn’t get their copy of X-Men Legacy 23 until Friday and come Saturday afternoon, they couldn’t locate their three copies. I’m hoping when I stop by Tuesday, as from Comiclist.com – I am not slated to be buying any comics shipping this week, they have located my copy of it.
So now that I have my ten. I’m thinking of only maintaining the list at the end of each month as I don’t see any reason to update it once a week. That’s what I’m thinking of as of now.
