I’m not sure if these were free last week or two days ago but I’m pretty sure Marvel offers up free comics only once a month now instead of once a week. I haven’t found an article that states this outright but I’m going to start tracking this.
These three comics are up for grabs!

My wife was nice enough to let me buy back issues for Father’s Day, this year.
Thanks to the great Mile High Comics, I was able to spend $50.16. The code word was, SANDIEGO, which gave me 20% off. Also, due to the upcoming convention, the prices were all slashed, as well.
Like always, I went to my Wishlist over at comicbookdb.com. I looked at my 14 pages, seeking out the issues that are in the upper left corner and the bottom right corner – because I may be crazy.
I was going to buy Marvel Zombies Halloween, but Mile High Comics didn’t have a copy. Next, I was going to buy the variant cover to Wolverine and the X-Men 25, with Kitty Pryde and Iceman’s son but it was $25, more than I was hoping for. I need those two for my Pryde’s Pride collection.
So here are the comics I bought –

So that takes care of the corners, that were available as well as what was under ten dollars. That gave me ten comics for $31.60, so I was still under the fifty dollars gift.
So I went and looked at what series I had a lot of issues listed in my Wishlist.
I had fifteen issues listed under the original volume of Uncanny X-Men, including the 544 2nd Printing. I added these –

I was able to add five issues, for a total of 15 comics for $46.50, still under fifty. Which now means I have nine issues left, so that is nice.
My second most series, in need of attention, was the third volume of New Mutants, with twelve issues.

Which was nice as that issue seven, should have came to Hastings but they never got that box. I’m pretty sure that I am only missing Scarlet Spider 19 now. Which brought my total to$62.70, saving $12.54 with SANDIEGO and my real total being, $50.16, which is amazing it worked out that way.
I only have seven issues of Uncanny X-Men Volume Three, so we are chipping away at that list. I went that direction, as I often default to going after series that only have one issue, that I want. It was time for a change.
I’m very pleased that I got so many variants in this batch. Eight, in total!
I know I’m still not done releasing my reviews from Christmas and my birthday but they are typed. Expect them at some point in the future.

My Father’s Day Comics have come in! Wooooooooo!
Now, just to let you all know, that I have several current comics ready to be reviewed and my goal here was to always do the Current comics and I have maybe ten of those ready and then have enough maybe 30 back issues ready to be reviewed so it might be quite some time before you see these comics being reviewed but they will come eventually.
So excited to start cataloging these!
So my wishlist is going from 322 comics down 47 comics, making my current list – 275.
Once again, thank you to my lovely wife for letting me buy these back issues and thank you to Walker Dennis for making me a father, thus I got these comics!

Turns out, I ordered two copies of New Mutants Volume Three Issue 50! Which is doubly irritating as I could have bought maybe five more comics. Lonestar Comics is not interested in buying it, not for another 24 months. Oh dear
My wife gave me permission to buy $75 worth of back issues for Father’s Day!
Mile High Comics is still doing their awesome 50% Sweetheart sale so this is what I like to do.
I like to go up to my budget, then enter the discount word and then keep going from there!
So I made sure the first comic I added was Captain America 193 as Walker Dennis has that cover as a poster and we thought it would be cute to have the issue itself. Plus, Jack Kirby written and drawn Captain America for $9.98 – that’s a deal!
Then I went to comicbookdb.com and did a cover gallery of my Wishlist, going with the upper left corner and the bottom right corner and added those. As my brain likes that idea.
So that brought my total to $80.10

I am really looking forward to these comics! Should put quite the dent into my Wishlist! I’ll do a post with the before and after numbers and such after I get the comics.
I’m not sure if this is how everybody uses the website but it is how I do it.
I can’t wait for these comics and getting to review them for this blog.
The nice thing about this present is that I now freed up some head space with no longer desiring back issues. Now I can just be all types of casual and add to my Wishlist. There was something about hitting 300 comics on that list that was driving me a bit insane and distracting me to the point of distraction!
UPDATE June 18, 2014 –
So I was finally able to go through my wishlist and was able to see what is left off of my priority list –
Lockheed is down to three appearances – Avengers vs. Pet Avengers 3 & 4 and Wolverine and the X-Men 3.
I am completely done with the issues that Arcade and Amanda Sefton appear in.
Doug Ramsey, I’m down to three appearances – X-Men Volume Two variants for issues 7 and 1 and New Mutants 32.
Rachel Grey, is seven. I’m not pushing that hard on Rachel at the moment.
Magik is down to seven appearances.
Nightcrawler is at 21 but I wasn’t even looking for him as he was on the back page and I didn’t realize I had printed this duplex style so that was on me.
I keep thinking about how I actually had a budget of $78 and I could have added at least three or four more one dollar comics. That’s okay though.

As I have no confidence in Hastings to be order this for me, I enlisted our friends at Amazon and preordered this :
X-Men : No More Humans by Mike Carey and Salvador Larroca, right now for $18.62 instead of the $24.99 it will be once it comes out, which is a savings of 25 percent!
Hastings couldn’t locate it as a comic or as a book, so I went this route and will for sure get a copy of it now.
Also, since I have no confidence with Hastings, I am going to be moving over to DCBS, Discount Comic Book Service, which I’ve been tempted to do ever since they have started sponsoring the Uncanny X-Cast. It just now is the right time for me to do it.
I’m going to try to keep my shipments to under $40 and if I can do that and get weekly shipping, that’s a bonus! If not, I’ll have to play with the shipping and try to keep this little hobby of mine on the affordable side.
Turns out the discounts are pretty much the same as when I worked at Hastings, so that’s nice. Weekly shipping amounts to $12.95 so that is essentially the gas I would have spent to pick them up, that’s how I’m going to view it.
If I do monthly shipping, for my five books in May, I would be spending roughly only $20, 15 for the books and five for the shipping, essentially, which is still a good deal but I want to be able to stay current on my books and this blog.
I’m letting ya’ll know in case there will be months where I’ll not be getting weekly shipments but I should be able to know soon.
I do like the idea of having my comics come straight to me, so that will be a treat. If only they had back issues, I would slowly try to chip away my wishlist by adding to my order until I hit $40 each month but also, it will be nice those months when I’m under budget.
I’m really excited about this and will let you know come May how it all works out.
I’m going to wait to use the Uncanny X-Cast code word for when I need it, hopefully that plan works. Have to be a little sneaky in that regard.
The one draw back I see is that, ordering the comics early, I am taking a chance that Kitty might not be in an issue and then I will have to add it to my Lonestar Comics sell pile instead of just leaving it behind at the store – so even that isn’t an issue.
Then it’ll be on me to actually sell those comics but that’s a whole other problem but not a real problem. Ever ship a small comic book worth of comics through UPS? Its like twenty six dollars, and that’s business to business shipping, its crazy! If you can get the number to just under sixty comics, they will fill a medium flat rate box through the United States Postal Service (USPS) and that’s $13 but then its through the post office but one of these days, I have to try that.

Just to let you all know, I am going to make November Thor Month!
I will do the new issues as I do them now, but instead of working through my recently bought back issues, I am going to do Thor specific back issues.
Which turns out, Thor has made several appearances in my comics. More than I possibly could get to in one month.
Also in full disclosure, we probably won’t be able to see Thor : Dark World, so this isn’t building towards that, but we did end up watching The Wolverine, so who knows.
