Can you believe they gave Storm an ongoing before Kitty? I know, I was surprised as well. I bought this issue for the Kitty reference.
New York City. Meatpacking District. Storm and Wolverine are on an actual date, which I like seeing. In her first issue, she nearly took over Santo Marco. I like the reference to how Storm spent most of her life solo in a foreign country.
Storm is displaying a hint of her incredible 80s attitude.
The two of them start dancing and the bartender quickly shuts that down, they don’t have a cabaret license. Storm makes it rain. They had to stop anyways as Wolverine is off on a secret mission. Wolverine kisses her and is about to leave when she wants some more Canadian sugar and kisses him.
Storm is looking for something to do and she comes across a missing child poster.
Cairo. Years Ago. We get images of Storm being a pick pocket.
Lower East Side. Storm speaks with Ms. Columbari, who knows the missing gal, Angie. Apparently she had a jerk of a n ex-boyfriend who lives in New Jersey, so the police don’t want to bother with a different state.
Westchester New York. Jean Grey School for Higher Learning. Beast is at the school and runs a trace on Angie’s cellphone. Her name is Angie Williams. She has a new cellphone. Storm can now track the new phone. If Storm is interested, Beast made it possible for her to track three more missing teenagers.
Thee teenagers are all underground. Storm hates being in close quarters, still. A guy coming out of the subway, sees Storm, and wonders if it is Comicon time already. His lady tells him to stop starring.
Storm recalls the first time she was in these Morlock Tunnels. Almost on cue, Callisto comes out, ready to attack. Storm’s ready and sends out an electric shock. Unfortunately, Callisto’s new bo staff absorbs lightning.
Storm thinks to herself about the first time she met Callisto. How Callisto kidnapped both Angel and Kitty. Which isn’t entirely true. Yeah, she kidnapped Angel but Kitty was a whole other thing. Kitty went ahead to investigate and one of the Morlocks made her sick and Caliban found her and tried to heal her back to full health. All of this happened in the awesomely drawn by Paul Smith and Bob Wiacek Uncanny X-Men 169 and 170. That Morlock was Plague.
Callisto seems to be acting like they haven’t seen each other since those two issues.
While the two are fighting, Storm gets attacked from behind by some new Morlocks. They all run off and try to hide behind a thick door. Storm uses wind to blow it down. She didn’t even need two huffs.
One of the new Morlocks is Angie. The room is nicely decorated.
The lost teenagers let Storm know what is up. They just needed a safe place to stay. Callisto isn’t the leader of a new group of Morlocks, she is just providing a nice place to stay for a while.
Storm is shame faced and tries to help clean up her mess. After recharging all of the batteries, she makes arrangements for Nightcrawler to arrive tomorrow with a water purification system.
Once out of the tunnels, Storm calls Beast. Beast confirms that what the teenagers have to go back to, are horrible situations, so they are better off in the deep sewers.
Beast has taken the time to find Angie’s ex-boyfriend and he is a horrible human being. He sells weed, cheats on his taxes and poisoned his upstairs neighbor’s dog. That final one is what irritates me. Beast forward to the police, all types of evidence from the ex-boyfriend’s own e-mail account. So the police arrest him.
Issue ends with Storm and Wolverine hanging out again.
Not a bad done-in-one issue.
