Who won PoV?  Did they use it?  Let’s find out!

Episode 19

Nominations were on Day 44

Shelli has to pull Clay back, from yelling at James.  Apparently, James did three years in prison!

Vanessa confronts Clay and Shelli about how they threaten to blow up Vanessa’s game.  Shelli has to try to calm Vanessa down, too.  Vanessa goes to the other side of the house, distantly herself from the couple, so hard.  Once again, eliminating one person, seems to have brought the entire house together.

Dman Julia, in that blue bikini, dman!

Shelli and Clay chat with James.

Shelli is crying, that she won’t go to Jury with Clay.  Austin overhears this and realizes that he will be going to jury with Liz.  oh man, that guy may kill her!  Someone keep him away from her!

Veto Players!

James – Houseguest Choice – Jackie
Shelli – Becky
Clay – Vanessa

Could be a decent comp.

Veto Comp!  Something to do with Royalty.  Another decent outfits comp.  I would try to keep all of my outfits.  Jiz is the host, but I can’t figure it out.  This is one of those classic, trade Big Brother games.  So you can win a prize but have someone take it from you.

GameofThrows, they are throwing balls

Round One

Vanessa scores a 26
Clay – 19
Becky – 11
Shelli – 22
Jackie – 1
James – 29

Jackie is out, she claims the Sixth Place Prize – Veto, so lame when the Veto is the first prize!

Round Two –

Clay – 22
Becky – 17
Shelli – out of bounds
James – 33
Vanessa – 17

Shelli claims her fifth place prize – Knight in Shiny Armor – She is in the Big Brother Knight Brotherhood.  She trades it for the Power of Veto.  Jackie now is a Knight, sounds pretty good

Round Three –

Becky – 7
James – 33
Vanessa – Out of Bounds
Clay – 33

Meg is super rooting for Clay.

Vanessa claims fourth place prize – Castle Vacation – She is keeping the Ireland vacation

Round Four –

James – 29
Clay – 16
Becky – 20

Clay claims third place prize – so there is no way for Clay and Shelli to keep the Veto.  Night in Shiny Armor, must stay close to the Knight, and shine armor.  Clay takes the Ireland trip, so Vanessa is the Squire

Round Five –

James – 10
Becky – Out of Bounds

Becky claims 2nd place crown – $5,000 – she keeps the money

James claims 1st place prize – Castle Guard – Must complete the regiment 2024 times.  If he doesn’t complete it, he can’t play in the next comp.

I forgot that James has a daughter.  He takes the veto, and Shelli now has to complete the task.  James mentions how Clay can take Shelli to Ireland, I bet he doesn’t take her.

Shelli is acting like they are getting married, after this.  I don’t see it happening.

OH!  Meg and Clay are having a very long hug.  John Mac doesn’t know what he is seeing.  She can’t promise to vote him out instead of Shelli.  Since when did Meg and Clay have a friendship.  #BBScandal, indeed!  This is still going on!  Meg wants to get Clay drunk in NYC!  Oh My!

Vanessa and Jackie get their costumes.  Jackie looks completely flat chested, who knew that was possible!  Vanessa has to shine Jackie’s armor for 24 hours.

Shelli has to do 2400 swiping, stabbing and a third thing.  She has 24 hours.  Every 100 of these, she has to ring a bell.

Come morning, Shelli has to do only a thousand more!  1648.  1770.

John and Steve are talking!!!

1842.  2007.  2110.  2200.  2395.  Five more!  She did it!

Brittany, from last season, seemed like it was a harder challenge as she had to kick a soccer ball into a net.

Shelli and Clay kept talking about how they have one more move, and I kept thinking that they were done and there were no more moves, except for walking out together.  I hadn’t thought about how they could convince James to use the Veto.  They try to convince James to put Austin up.

Veto Ceremony

Clay uses his speech time to confess his love for her.  Shelli, echoes his feelings but gives a speech about fairness.

James will not be using his Veto!  Shelli is going home, right?

. . .

Here is a few pics of Julia in that bikini –

Ultimate X4, Part Two of Two

We conclude the mini-Mike Carey event with this issue!

So great that Ultimate Shadowcat was already becoming one of the main X-characters at this point.

She makes her appearance last issue but she is the main threat to both issues here so I finally looked Rhonda Burcill, who is the Ultimate version of Thinker – hence why she has Awesome Andy – who she calls, Robby, which is obviously a nickname off of Robot.  One would think a super genius would have a bigger name for such things.  She originally appeared in Ultimate Fantastic Four 19 and 20, which were also written by Mike Carey.  So now that we know that, we should be able to enjoy the issue properly.

I’m not sure what happened to me when I first read these issues but I remember not liking them and feeling like I was missing so much or that the issues were confusing. I probably just read them too quickly, or something.  Maybe even alphabetical order?  That could have been the case.

Issue opens with Yu art, as we see the X-Men realizing they have been had.

Baxter Building, New York.  Reed is being mentally teased by Miss Rhona Burchill.  She starts mentally taking down guards.

Wolverine gets back on his feet and fights Thing.

Ultimate X4 2 Shadowcat 1

Wolverine gets a bit of an advantage over Thing.  Then embarrassingly takes taken out by his own flu.  I like having some fun with Wolverine, he’s a character that can easily kill everyone in the next room, so you can put him in silly situations like this as it won’t damage him at all.

That is a great look between Ben and Reed.

Reed, smartly, wants to make a truce and goes directly to Shadowcat, the only brain the X-Men have.

Rhona starts going a tad insane with having so much mental powers so quickly.  She’s smart, so she has a decent grasp on her new powers.

Ultimate X4 2 Shadowcat 2

Reed is impress with what Xavier and Magneto was able to build, which they really don’t get enough create for all of their gadget creations.  Sure, Cerebro gets mention but they had to build fancy planes and uniforms.  Heck, even the Danger Room had to be designed and programmed.

We learn that the X-Men uniforms block themselves from Sentinel scanners, which is handy.

Shadowcat asks if Reed ever had a girlfriend, she probably just feels like it is nice to talk to a guy who doesn’t try to make fart noises with his own mouth after the first three minutes of meeting him.

I still prefer Shadowcat with Spider-Man but I wouldn’t have minded Shadowcat dating Reed, though he turn out to be a horrible person later – from what I’ve read about and seen in Cataclysm.  Plus, there would be no way for Proper Kitty and Reed to date, so it is fun to wish for Proper Kitty and Spider-Man to date as that is an option.

Reed is stun and doesn’t know how to talk to a woman, romantically, who isn’t Sue.  Why would anyone else want to talk to him about such matters?  He has no time for that, he only has eyes for Sue.

Reed was able to make Wolverine better but he won’t be at full strength in a while.  Shadowcat recognizing him as their heaviest hitter is accurate.  Thing might take offense to that but Wolverine has a killer instinct that Grimm doesn’t have.

Johnny can’t figure out why Kitty isn’t talking to him but talks to Reed.  Sue isn’t impressed.  Their father wants the Ultimates to deal with Rhona.

Ultimate X4 2 Shadowcat 3

I was just thinking if this series was to tie into one of the Fantastic Four films but the first one came out in 2005 and the sequel was 2007, so that doesn’t time out.

Reed created refractions shields, so they have a better chance of not succumbing to Rhona’s mental powers.  He mentions that Human Torch’s shield only works up to a certain degree, so now we can expect him to get at least as hot as four hundred decrees.  Don’t worry, it never becomes an issue.  It is only an example of Reed having to tell Johnny what is up.

Since Rhona can control machines, they have to part the Fantasti-car a distance away and walk the rest.

We get the Rivalry of Iceman and Human Torch, which is as natural as sharks and bears being nature’s best friends.

Thanks to YouTuber zombiefeast for hosting the video.  I really do miss Space Ghost Coast to Coast.  This is from the Kentucky Nightmare episode, Season 7 Episode 1.

Not a fan of Reed calling the team of Shadowcat and Invisible Woman, girls, but that’s Ultimate Reed for you.

Sue and Kitty would be my ultimate heroes turn villains duo, as they could kill people so fast and easily!

Ultimate X4 2 Shadowcat 4

Instead, Sue tries to undermine Kitty, probably due to Kitty’s slight interest in Reed.

Shadowcat’s plan is to phase her hands through the electronics and disable them.  Sue has a faster plan, to set off miniature force fields, have them expand and take out an entire wall in a few actions.

Which I sort of like a Sue Storm with attitude, something the 60s version wasn’t really allowed to have.  She isn’t defined by her gender or who she is with or who she has birthed.  I’m sure she is considered the strongest member of the team like her proper version is.  She would have to.

There is a two page Daily Bugle styled Bullpen Bulletin.  Storm 1 of 6, learn the full story of Ororo’s past.  Astonishing X-Men 13, he wait is over and it’s time to rock!  Ultimate Fantastic Four 27, featuring Ultimates, and President Thor?  X-Men 182, the return of Apocalypse!  New Excalibur 4, the team is formed and they’re not happy about it.  Uncanny X-Men 469, An X-Man takes teh law into their own tank.  Wolverine 39, a deadly showdown with the Winter Soldier!  X-Men Deadly Genesis 4 of 6, Professor X’s darkest secret stands revealed before all!  New X-Men 23, X-23 must make a difficult choice!

Iceman saves a boy, the boy is under Rhona’s control.  Ben and Reed get into the cargo bay.  Thing fights Robbie.

 Ultimate X4 2 Shadowcat 5

Rhona takes control of the two boys and have them fight each other.

Shadowcat tries to sneak attack but is too close to Rhona.

Ultimate X4 2 Shadowcat 6

If Shadowcat could have phased her hand, the story would be done.

Rhona takes control of the ladies’ minds.  Before she can do anything though, Reed comes busting through the wall.

Thing is under Rhona’s control and starts fighting Reed.  Reed takes a page out of Rhona’s book and gives her a adapting virus.

Ultimate X4 2 Shadowcat 7

Rhona is escaping while the heroes are regathering their thoughts.

Wolverine has a plan to ensure that they never have to worry about Rhona again.  He cut her secondary fuel line, which causes her flying car to explode.

Ultimate X4 2 Shadowcat 8

Wolverine tries his best at a lame hero line but I can’t believe everyone just stands around, wiping their hands clean of the situation.  Wolverine just straight murdered someone and they just shrug their shoulders.  So bizarre!

Ultimate X4 2 Shadowcat 9

Baxter Building.  The Next Day.

Reed has cleaned up the Cerebro components.  Yu has taken over for the issue.  Which I wonder why he even did that for?  He got to draw only three pages.  Was the script not long enough and Carey had to add a few pages?  Was Yu just looking for work?  The pages are nice but I’m not sure why they switched artists.

He drew the X-Men Away Team page, so maybe Ferry only wanted to do the Fantastic Four pages after having to do all of the X-Men pages in the previous chapter.  Is that even a reason?

Lieutenant Lumpkin, that is quite the upgrade from postal carrier, but it could be his son too as he is quite young here.  Or it is a familiar last name.

Human Torch tries to hit on Shadowcat, she’s seeing Spider-Man, so why downgrade?  As far as I know, he never tries to hit on her again once he is living with Aunt May.  We’ll have to pay attention to that once we review those issues.

Ultimate X4 2 Shadowcat 10

Wolverine is going to dry the Rolls Royce back to Salem.  Jean Grey and the X-Plane fly above them, offering to pick them up but Wolverine wants the drive.  Would that plane be able to load the car into it?  It seems too sleek for that.

Ultimate X4, Part One of Two

We keep Fantastic Four Month going with a mini Mike Carey event as well!

I’m not sure why they labeled them Ultimate X-Men / Ultimate Fantastic Four then Ultimate Fantastic Four / Ultimate X-Men, as that’s not alphabetical order.  I think it is because this issue is heavy on X-Men and the next is heavy on Fantastic Four, so that must be it.  Or why they didn’t just call it Ultimate X4, like how the Internet has settled on.

Xavier gets a telepathic wake up call from a space alien.

He summons his X-Men to him.

Ultimate X4 1 Shadowcat 1

The alien claims her name is, General Lal-Qil-Atrox of the Supreme Consistory.  So I’m thinking this may be an attempt to try to work the Kree into the Ultimate Universe, as I see ‘Supreme’ I think ‘Intelligence.’

Iceman proves that he’s a risk even in their own home, as his thoughts are distracting Jean.

One of the Consistory’s ships is crashing onto Earth.  The ship contains bio-weapons.  The bio-weapons are people, mutants.  Mega powerful sun-eating able mutants.

Ultimate X4 1 Shadowcat 2

The alien mutants have been ordered to land and destroy the planet.  They are not going to care if they are on the wrong planet.

Xavier and the team will ahead off the aliens.  Just in case this is a trap, Shadowcat and Iceman will be left behind.  Also, if they need the support, once Wolverine shows up, those two can tell him what is up.

Iceman doesn’t want to stay behind, he wants to be on the frontlines.  Plus, things have been awkward between him and Shadowcat as they broke up due to him having a crush on Rogue and just being a boy.

Ultimate X4 1 Shadowcat 3

A mystery dame, all in black, is attempting to break into the Xavier School, along with her assistant android, Robbie.

I like how one of the school’s defenses is that whoever attempts to break in, gets dosed with happy thoughts.

Shadowcat, is reading a magazine, is not that worried about an intruder.  I like how she is the defacto leader of the duo.  Iceman is going to check the front of the school and she will investigate the dorms.

Ultimate X4 1 Shadowcat 4

Iceman comes across the intruder.  She is fully ready for him, as she has sapped all the moisture out of the room.  So he can’t generate or maintain any ice.  That’s pretty smart, I’m surprised more villains don’t attempt that.

She counters his poor attempt with flamethrowers, which are quite effective.

Ultimate X4 1 Shadowcat 5

Shadowcat comes to Iceman’s aid.  The lady knows that they use to date, so she has some pretty decent intel, though it is out of date.  But it isn’t, she just doesn’t know the real reason they were left behind at the school.

The lady throws Shurikens, that have a boomerang effect.  Boomikens, if you will.  Shadowcat isn’t that impress with the new gadgetry.

The lady explains that if Shadowcat quit phasing, the boomikens will tear her apart.  Which is odd as one would think Ferry would draw them as still being within Shadowcat’s body, as the image we see is that they passed right through her.  Maybe Shadowcat is wrong, and they don’t just make a second pass, they just rotate and sweep through her, over and over again.

When that fails, the lady gasses Shadowcat, as she still breaths while phasing.

Wolverine jumps at the masked lady, it is the only page with Ferry’s signature, so he probably has plans to sell that page.  Carey’s name on it as well.

Wolverine gets gassed with a virus that adapts itself every seven seconds.

Ultimate X4 1 Shadowcat 6

In the morning.  The three X-Men have regrouped.  Wolverine is dealing with a virus that re-adapts to him every seven seconds, so his healing factor can’t catch up.  That’s what one can do to a Wolverine that doesn’t have a super healing factor.

Shadowcat is not happy that the lady was completely invisible to the school’s defense systems.

These X-Men know that the other X-Men are on a wild goose chase, but they also can’t wait the nine hours for them to come back.

The lady came to steal components of Cerebro.

Because of that phone call the lady made before invading the school, Shadowcat now has a lead on where she could be.

The lady and her robot gets back to her cargo bay.  She calls a Caliban, he calls her Miss Burchill.

Ultimate X4 1 Shadowcat 7

The signal leads back to the Baxter Building, the home of the Fantastic Four!  Rut roh!

This is the first time the two teams have met, and I get the impression the Fantastic Four don’t really get out much, so they are as mysterious to the X-Men as they could be.

 Ultimate X4 1 Shadowcat 8

I do like how we don’t have four X-Men going up against the Fantastic Four.  Though that would be completely understandable, instead we got the two important members and one free loader.

I do like how they will be the characters to kick off Ultimate Comics X-Men, but with Wolverine’s son and Rogue added to the main cast.  Probably due to how well this sold, I imagine.

Shadowcat has tried to call the X-Men back but they are out of communication, Wolverine knows that they are up against a real thorough strategist.

Six hours is a long time, they all could be dead by the time the X-Men get back.  I do like how that also gives us the time frame of how long this story takes place.

Wolverine grabs the keys to the Rolls Royce.  Imagine how long it must take to get from Salem Center, Massachusetts to New York City?  According to Google Maps, it takes four hours.  Though there is a Salem in update New York, so it could also be only an hour and a half away.  For some reason, I always think they are in Massachusetts but I recall Bryan Singer talking about how they are in update New York on a commentary track, or an interview, and I remember thinking that was news to me.  They could be, it’ll make sense as all the original Marvel characters were in New York.

Over at the Baxter Building.  Johnny and Ben are arguing, like they do.  Sue creates a force bubble to separate them.

Ultimate X4 1 Shadowcat 9

Iceman brings up the point about whenever Shadowcat phases another person along, there is some hand holding involved.  That or she grabs the person by the arm, there are only a few options.

Wolverine tells them they are now in Stealth Mode.

Poor Reed Richards is the first to meet the X-Men.  I like how he responses to them as if they are lost.  It is a big building and I imagine they only really use the top ten floors.

Though I would hate to work in that building, typing away in a Word document, the power turns off and you lose hours of work.  Or you end up in an alternate dimension because the building is being attacked – yet again.  Though I’m sure the Ultimate Fantastic Four don’t have that problem.

Ultimate X4 1 Shadowcat 10

Wolverine, of course, tries to make a horrible first impression with immediately threatening Reed.  He plays it pretty cool.

I like the idea of Wolverine being sick, thus he doesn’t have full use of his senses which must all be instinct at this point, to use.

Once Reed has a feel for the situation, it is on.

Ultimate X4 1 Shadowcat 11

I like the idea of Reed flexing himself to the point of being a giant physical force.  I believe Claremont did the same thing during his run on the proper Fantastic Four.  There is no reason why he can’t buff himself up and give Thing a run for his money, or at the very least, assist with the physical blows.

Iceman, not letting a moment go by, announces that they are no longer in Stealth Mode.

Burchill has the buyers for what she stole from Xavier.  She realizes what she has stolen and wants more money.  She puts on the Cerebro helmet and has Robbie kill the two buyers.

Ultimate X4 1 Shadowcat 12

The Baxter Building guards are doing their best against the X-Men.

Shadowcat gets taken out, mysteriously.

Ultimate X4 1 Shadowcat 13

Not that mysteriously, it was only an invisible threat.  Now the X-Men start getting in trouble as they, foolishly, took a fight to the Fantastic Four’s home turf.  I mean, really, Reed has all sorts of gadgets that I imagine he can summon.  Not very smart, but Wolverine was leading them with little input from the other two.

Shadowcat is KOed by Invisible Woman, good thing each team had at one lady present so that they can fight.

Wolverine attempts to get to Shadowcat but Thing blocks him.

Since Ultimate Thing was only a high school athlete before becoming a rock monster type thing, there is no way for him to have a shared history with Wolverine, unlike their proper counterparts.

Ultimate X4 1 Shadowcat 14

Iceman creates a ice barrier to keep the two teams separate.  This comic came out three years after X2, but it is an obvious thing for Bobby to do, but it could also be an homage.  Nice that in X2, Bobby was given something to do.

Issue ends with Shadowcat out, Wolverine sick and Iceman having to put up an ice cube.  Not the best outing.

Human Torch starts trying to melt the ice.  Thing has the wise idea of getting some buckets, while waste the opportunity?

I like the idea of Iceman wanting to know how to assist Shadowcat but he doesn’t know how her powers work.  He clearly wasn’t paying attention in those Danger Room scenarios.

The last page has Burchill going insane as her mind expands and reaches out to Reed.

Come back for the second part of this crossover in two days!

Big Brother 17 – Sunday – August 2, 2015

Posted by John Klein III on August 3, 2015
Posted in: Reality Television, Websites. Tagged: BB17, Big Brother. Leave a comment

Who officially won HoH?  Who did they nominate?  How else will they fill an hour of television, now that Battle of the Block, is gone.

I’m about to start episode 14, of season four and I’m sort of loving these old school seasons.  Julie Chen said “but first” at least once every episode, that she appears in.

This is Episode 18.

Hey, they added Julia to the opening sequence!  Once I see that, online, I will get that up.

Day 43!  Is the HoH competition.

The nice thing about Season Four, is that the other side of the house, got to get into power, which I feel rarely happens.

The eagles actually head dive into the houseguests’ chests and busts!  That seems intense!

The wall leans in, so much!

At 20 minutes, James wants to know if anyone wants to cut any deals, a line that will get repeated – SO MUCH!

Steve, then Austin, are the first to fall!

Julia, then Meg, are out!

Austin can’t tell Liz and Julia apart!

1 Hour 9 Minutes.  This is about when we started watching it, on live feeds.

Jackie fell!

Liz dropped, next!

1 Hour 43 Minutes.

Becky takes a spill!

Clay drops!  It must be an intense feeling, to have your legs or arms, just plain give out on you.

The final three are – James / Shelli / John, they last a while.

This comp always does better for the smaller fellows.

As Shelli is trying to make deals, John falls.  Shelli drops, after James agrees.  Clay and Shelli, should be safe.  Shelli, to her credit, makes sure John is included, in the list of safety.

Production, no last minute mark?  For shame!

James was the first HoH and now he is the first, Sole HoH!

James, already, doesn’t feel like honoring their deal.  Shelli, in DR, states that if James goes back on their deal (that was made in front of the house), it will make the house look at him differently.  Which would only be true to her side of the house, who ALREADY want him out.

As they come inside, they see Julia’s photo on the memory wall and her key hanging.  I forgot they even had keys, so they must be turning those keys, in the box.  I figured they were prop keys (that are never really inserted, and they just tell Production, who the image should be of).

Since Vanessa believes that Shelli and Clay are safe, that means James’ nominations should be her and Austin.  That’s who I thought they were going to be.

So freaky seeing Julia and Liz, in the same purple shirt, chatting it up.  Austin comes in the room, but they don’t address him, at first.  He makes the mistake of bringing up Jason, which gives Julia the chance to confront him with how much of an idiot that he is.  Austin wastes, no time, lying to the Twins.

Is everyone, now, going to be in Jury?

Julia may forgive, but she will never forget this.  Julia says that they are friends now, but Austin counters that they are more than friends.  The hell!?!  Is he implying that they will be one day inlaws?  Major Caleb vibes!

Vanessa confronts Shelli about not naming her for safety.  As if Shelli is suppose to give James an entire list of people.  He would have just said, no, to the deal.

Clay wastes no time of wanting to suggest to James to nominate Austin.  Shelli seems to be trying to play the game, so that she is friends with everyone, afterwards.  I’m glad Clay reminds her that it doesn’t matter, just get to the end!

Is BBTakeover done?  That’s pretty disappointing, that they made such a big deal, that it is over and never that important.

Clay mutters a bunch, apparently.  The close caption guy, can’t transcribe it correctly!

James scares Steve!  Straight to the ground!  Steve!  Such a good sport!

Did they skip James’ HoH room reveal?  After Shelli made a big deal of naming names?

Jackie, Meg, Becky and James are chatting in the HoH room.  Jackie is the first to mention that they should just put them up.  Becky is quick to point out, how they have to protect James, next week.

We’re still laughing about Clay’s furless bat comment.  Is there an ongoing list of his mutterings?

Becky betrays that foursome and tells Shelli and Clay the plan.  She kicked Liz out of the room, to tell them this.  I think it was Liz.  Clay tries to calm down Shelli.

Vanessa talks to James, stating the house wanted Jason out.  Except that James knows that not the entire house wanted Jason out.  Which is dumb on Vanessa’s part, to try to blame “The House.”  Vanessa makes an odd deal.  If he doesn’t nominate her, if she wins another HoH, before Week 7, she will allow him to make someone else safe.  Which seems like an odd number, that she worked out.  Especially as we see her correct herself.

Clay and Shelli confront James.  They throw Austin’s name out there, so harsh and easily.

James tells Meg, that he doesn’t want to put pawns up or back door, he wants to put both Clay and Shelli up.  Which is totally how I would do my HoH.  Two targets, every time.

I could have sworn, this was the very next morning, of the HoH comp, so I believe Production aired this out of order.  Meg likes the idea.  James believes this should hit Shelli and Clay like a Mac Train.  Which the expression is, Mac Truck, and it seems insensitive to Becky!

Nominations!

James has nominated – Clay and Shelli!  Shelli should be throwing that table over.  Hulk style!

Shelli and Clay have some words to be said, they try to state that James’ word is no good.  They also imply that they had nothing to do with Jason leaving and will tell the truth, to whomever, they just need to ask.  Which seems, like an odd choice, to not say.  Might as well put all the cards on the table.  Vanessa knows that her name is going to be mud, in a day.

If Clay or Shelli win PoV, James is just going to put up a pawn and there will be no amount of votes to safe the other.

. . .

Quagmire didn’t waste any time, thanks!

Who goes home, Becky or Jason?  Will we find out who the new HoH is?  Also, the Twins enter the game, together!

The HoH will be solo, finally!

But First!

Jason and his friends are not taking his nomination well, as they know that he has to be going home.

Clay lies to Meg about being behind Jason’s nomination.  Meg tells Vanessa, who is not happy that she doesn’t have her alliance’s support – in taking the heat.

Jackie looks look, trying to get into the business.

I do feel like it is too early for the house to be so divided (it happens sooner and sooner) but Shelli needs to stop worrying about losing friends or votes, just make it to the final two – and have a great speech prepared!  They have to choose either you or the dingbat next to you.  That’s all you have.

All the other side can do, is plan on throwing Clay and Shelli out, next week.

Johnny Mac gets some love!  I’ve missed him this week! #DrMac  He got to kiss Jiz!  So awesome!  John got to kiss Becky too!  And teach guys everywhere a sweet new move, counting shoulders!  I hope that Austin took some notes.

Speeches!

Becky’s is pretty decent, no real shoutouts but she wants to stay.

Jason’s was decent too!

The Voting!

Austin – Jason
Meg – Becky
Liz – Jason
James – Becky
Steve – Jason (get a steppin’!)
Jackie – Jason
Shelli – Jason
Jason is going home!
Clay – Jason
John – Jason (Chenbot reveals that he has a FlirtMance with Becky)

7 – 2, that isn’t what Jason wanted to hear

Julie confirms to Jason that there are twins.

Julia doesn’t know that she is about to join the game, as last she knew, they were nominated.

Julie tells Julia that she is in the house, even though she is dressed for the comp.  Julie then gets the entire house.  Liz is so happy!  The house is stunned (for some reason).  The twins switched, fourteen times.  The game resets.  No more Battle of the Block, and only one HoH.

Classic Wall Competition!

I wish we didn’t get this OPIOID commercial so much!

Oh man, that wall is really leaning over!  Just four minutes left, of the show!  They get rained on and they get pooped on from eagles.

I believe Austin was one of the first to fall.

HoH comp, is endurance!  My wife learn that it was happening, we came home from my in-laws and watched the feeds.  John, Shelli and James were the longest.  Then the HoH went too . . . JAMES!  John fell, as Shelli was trying to broker a deal.  James promised that he wouldn’t nominate Shelli and Clay.  Which disappointed my wife.

THEN James stayed up all night and . . . NOMINATED SHELLI AND CLAY!!!   So now my wife is super happy!

What If Fantastic Four

Story Mike Carey

Cover & Pencils Marshall Rogers

Inks Jonathan Glapion & Marshall Rogers

Colors Soto Color

Letters Artmonkey’s Dave Lanphear & Virtual Calligraphy’s Chris Eliopoulos and Rus Wooton

Cover Dated February 2006

What If the Fantastic Four were Cosmonauts?

We are kicking Fantastic Four Month off with this issue!

So in 2006, Marvel tested out an idea of Uatu the Watcher not being the host of What Ifs.  The Watcher here is Hector Espejo, who is a super hacker.  He found an alternate time line.  So there were six oneshots that were released, with the concept of seeing how different this one Alternate Timeline was, instead of looking at six different timelines.  This is the only one I read so I am not sure if all of them actually line up or not.  They had the foresight of making sure each one took place in a different decade, so they don’t have to really connect, just not conflict with each other.

The six titles / eras are :
Feudal Japan’s Devil Who Dares (get it?)
Civil War’s Captain America (actual civil war)
Prohibition’s Wolverine
WWII Namor (so not much different there)
Post-War Fantastic Four (this comic)
Thor being the Herald of Galactus, not sure where that one takes place, but it seems like it is a space opera, so it probably just ends with this timeline ceasing to exist.

What If Fantastic Four Magik 1

The actual concept starts on the third page and naturally it has the Russian foursome’s space ship being bombarded with cosmic rays.

The Fantastic Four here are – Reed Richards, Natasha Romanova, Illyana Rasputin and Piotr Rasputin – not a bad line up!

I remember when the 2006 What Ifs were announced and how excited I was to not only have more What Ifs in our lives but that Marvel had the great idea to put their most famous three Russians into the same comic!  Plus, keep Reed Richards and you have a decent Fantastic Four!

What If Fantastic Four Magik 2

Illyana is a Corporal.  Natasha is ex-KGB and a Major.

Lieutenant Von Doom, who only appears on these first pages, informs the Premier that the four cosmonauts not only survived but have been changed.  Latveria is a member of the Soviet Union.

What If Fantastic Four Magik 3

Doom is going to name them, The Ultimate Federalist Freedom Fighters (UFFF).

Piotr Rasputin is Colossus – the Thing of the team.

What If Fantastic Four Magik 4

Iliana has the power of camouflage – the Invisible Woman of the team.

Rudion Richards can open up discontinuities in his own body – the . . . Reed Richards of the team?  I like how Carey found an interesting way to do his power.  His limbs still ‘stretch’ distances but instead of it actually doing that, his limbs ‘blast off’ from his body, so it is the same effect, essentially.

Natasha is a lady Electro, called the Widow Maker (get it?) – the Human Torch of the team.  A bet of a stretch but it works.

What If Fantastic Four Magik 5

I like them addressing the Rasputin / Romanoff real world connection.

Rud, what a name!, has to explain how he has an American last name.  His father got with a local peasant girl and left.

I like that smirk Iliana makes when she is named the team’s KB Liaison, she is so proud of the honor.

What If Fantastic Four Magik 6

Nice homage panel to the Fantastic Four first issue. Not sure if the one on the right is an homage.

What If Fantastic Four Magik 7

Iliana is the Bucky Barnes of the team, but before he was Winter Soldier.

Rud starts not liking their new missions as they seem to be attacking regular people, unarmed people.

What If Fantastic Four Magik 8

We start seeing that Colossus is slowly losing his mind and becoming the big dummy we know him to be.

Ilana and Natasha have no qualms about following orders, no matter what they are.  They are good KGB Agents.

The UFFF are officially under the KGB umbrella, due to their own field commander being dead.

What If Fantastic Four Magik 9

Rud mistakenly believes since the guy who gave them orders is dead, they should report back to base.  Iliana wastes no time in letting him know how wrong he is.  Boy, do I wish Magik and Reed Richards could get this much screen time together!

Natasha has found Rud’s father, who Rud hasn’t spoken to or written to since sending a letter stating his own mother had passed.  Rud visits him in jail.

What If Fantastic Four Magik 10

Nice how the Daily Bugle exists on this Earth, of course it would.

The UFFF are sent to fight the Avengers in Cuba.  The Avengers are – Giant Man, Wasp, Captain America and Iron Man.  So it will be four on four, which is fair.

I’m not sure how this Captain America relates to the Captain America from the Actual Civil War days What If issue that came out along with this one, but that’s a question I have.

Giant Man is the first one to physically approach the UFFF.

Iliana tries to shoot her gun but Captain America throws his mighty shield and stops the bullet.

What If Fantastic Four Magik 11

Colossus gets a mad on for Captain America due to that, which he should.

I’m not wrong in that the panel layout is unusual on that page, right?  There is something about how the middle panel with Iron Man is that forces my eyes to adjust to it.

Iron Man absorbs Widow Maker’s electricity, which gives him a boost.

Iliana sets herself up for another kill shot, but Wasp zaps her.

What If Fantastic Four Magik 12

Giant Man gets out of the water, and tries to warn Wasp from attacking Iliana.

Iliana starts shooting wildly to get Wasp to stop with her attack.

Rud quickly realizes they were not prepared for this.  Which makes sense as their latest fights have been against unarmed folks, so one gets use to that type of enemy (the kind that don’t fight back) so they are not as battle ready as they should be.  I imagine the Avengers are fighting the fights we now they do.

Colossus fights Iron Man, which makes sense as they are Men of Steel.

Rud gets an idea to even the battleground.  Giant Man attacks Colossus.  Rud notices the device that controls Giant Man’s height.

What If Fantastic Four Magik 13

We get a small taste of what Millar / Hitch also did in Ultimates with how Giant Man’s innards work when he grows.  Like there, Giant Man’s heart and lungs can’t support this new height.

For some reason, Iliana really wants to kill the Avengers – maybe she was given special orders.  Just like Winter Soldier, who came after this.

Captain America comes over to try to Iliana, as she is just firing blind but rubble is falling towards her.  He saves her, Wasp dials the device back, shrinking Giant Man.

Captain America turns his back to Iliana to inform Colossus that his sister is okay.

What If Fantastic Four Magik 14

Rud finally makes his way to Natasha, who has been unconscious for pages now.  He feels bad for not taking all of the biology as a factor to the harm Giant Man would have felt.  This Richards hasn’t had much time to be a scientist.

Iliana is looking for her gun as the heroes are regrouping.

Giant Man is now just regular size, Wasp is looking over him.  Iron Man lands for the assist.

Iliana puts her gun to Captain America, who is also walking over to his fallen ally.  She pulls the trigger as Colossus puts his hand in front of the barrel. The gun backfires and kills her.  Yet another Colossus, yet another character’s death that I like so much more than him.  Alternate Reality Colossuses are the worst!

Either Colossus really doesn’t know or he is becoming that dumb, but he tells Rud that he doesn’t know what happened to his sister.

Rud opens the dimension that he uses to transport his limbs and he teleports the entire team away.

What If Fantastic Four Magik 15

Their commanding officers are dead.  Natasha reveals that super humans are appearing more regularly every day.  This new group of people will need a leader.  Rud wants to just spend time in his lab, so Natasha will be the actual ruler and Rud just the puppet head.

Issue ends with Rud going to try to smarten his friend up and there will be no rulers, everyone will be an equal.

Not a bad issue.

Inside back cover ad is for the excellent game, X-Men Legends II, Rise of Apocalypse.

Not too shabby!

Since this is only the second Ultimate handbook, all of the big names are also spotlighted that are in the Ultimates and Ultimate X-Men teams.

I had to add Ultimate X-Men 18 to my wishlist as apparently Illyana Rasputin is named in that issue, I learn that as she is listed in Colossus’ relatives.  I thought he just had unnamed siblings.

Kitty is referenced in Iceman’s profile as well as Longshot’s.  Rogue’s profile has a reference to Shadowcat, as well.

There is a handy issue checklist in the back.

Giant Man –
First Appearance : Ultimates 2
Significant Issues : Became Giant Man, Ultimates 2; injured by Hulk, abused Wasp, Ultimates 5 &  6; beaten by Cap, Ultimates 9; Ant-Man guise, fired from Ultimates 2 1 – 3, joined Defenders, allied with traitor, Ultimates 2 6

Shadowcat –
First Appearance : Ultimate X-Men 21
Significant Issues : Destroyed evolved computer, Ultimate X-Men 24; first met Spider-Man, Ultimate Spider-Man 42 – 44, began dating Peter Parker, Ultimate Spider-Man Annual 1

. . .

This brings us to the end of Ant-Man Month, it was more of an Event than a Month but what that’s how these things happen.

Please come back soon for . . . FANTASTIC FOUR MONTH!

Big Brother 17 – Wednesday – July 29, 2015

Who wins Veto?  Will they use it?  How does Vanessa continue to run the house as the sole HoH?  Let’s Get Excited!

Which I feel like I should restate, as I don’t think I have this season, the whole “Let’s Get Excited!” comes from Comics Should Be Good’s very own Chad Nevett, That’s how he started his Random Thoughts column, which I use as an inspiration for these posts.

http://goodcomics.comicbookresources.com/category/random-thoughts/

I asked him for permission, on Tumblr, to use the line and format and he said I could.  Which is pretty nice of him.  Though I couldn’t find that moment.  I really thought “Chad Nevett jackalsiii” would bring it up but I checked Google’s recommendation of page 29 and 31 but that didn’t work.

I’m in the middle of episode four of Season Four and they fixed the Veto power, so that the winner of the comp, can take themselves off the block.  Which is an obvious power it should have had.  So fun to watch June, as everything she does, gets her the money.

With Becky and Clay on the block, a big competitor could be evicted.

Johnny Mac’s DR about how Clay is only getting a slight taste of what Clay has put John through, is so great!

Austin knows he is in the dark.  Liz likes to hang out with Austin, but no love connection.  Austin got a kiss!  She seems pretty disgusted.

Picking players for Veto!

Vanessa – Houseguest Choice – Shelli
Clay – John (Veto Champ!)
Becky – Liz

Could be interesting!

Vanessa wonders if they should tell Liz the plan now, or after Veto but the room thinks later, is the better option.

Steve gets TV time!  The camera starts to follow him!  The camera loves him, as do I!

Veto Comp!  Jason is the host.

Is there any pictures of Becky in her black bra, after the BotB comp?  I’m not seeing any.

The Veto Players are in Squirrel costumes!

Jason says that Becky is a Hooker Squirrel!  Clay is liking Shelli’s costume.  I need a picture of these!

They have to catch the nut, 250 times!  So long!  This is a classic Big Brother comp.  Seems like whoever gets to 100 first, is also the person who gets to 250.

They can remove their Squirrel hats?  Why would they?

Clay is the first to 100.  The ladies seem to be dropping their nuts.

Clay is the first to 200.  John and Becky are in the 100s.  Clay stops at 209, that is probably a mistake.  Becky drops her nut, and is back to zero.

Steve is so happy to see Becky fail, the hell man!  So weird and odd!

Clay got 250!  John got into the 200s as well.  Becky starts crying and pulls a Rachel and cries behind a tree.  Oh Becky, she’s lost three comps in a row!  Something that I’m glad she is keeping track of such things.

Vanessa is happy that Clay won, he takes himself off, and Austin should be able to go up.

Vanessa tells Liz the plan.  Vanessa blows up Austin’s game and reveals how creepy Austin’s end goal was.  End goal into Liz’s pants.  wowzers!

Liz seems to have convinced Vanessa and Shelli to not go through with the plan.  Vanessa talks to Austin, about how dumb he was.  Vanessa starts crying, I would to, if I had to talk to such a dummy.  Austin does not want to be put up.  She tells him to try to make good with Shelli and Clay.

Poor Steve!  He was minding his own business in a room and Austin kicks him out, so that he can talk to Shelli and Clay.  Austin, can you really tell people that you are falling in love with Liz?  That just seems crazy and super creepy.  Clay is worried that Austin is way too emotional.  Austin is a number for them, and he own’t go after them.  Except, wouldn’t he, now?

Vanessa calls everyone to the living room.  Steak Dinner from Outback Steakhouse.  Each one gets to invite one more guest!

Vanessa – Becky
Liz – Austin (mixed signals!)
James – Clay!?!

Meg implies, heavily, that she could have put out, with a few drinks, oh Jason!  Jason is getting ready for his date with Clay.

I want some steak!  Especially from Outback Steakhouse

Outback Steakhouse logo

Jason wants a kiss, to make the night special.  Clay goes in but Jason pulls away.  Smart, play hard to get.

I see that Missoula, Billings and Bozeman, all have Outback locations.  Maybe one day, I can go there!  Those are the only three locations, in the entire state.

Outback Steakhouse locations

See Helena, above and to the left of the C (Bozeman), that’s where I am.  I’m three hours away from the closest one!

Vanessa is worried about who to put next to Becky.  She thinks about Jason, as he is the leader of the other side of the house.  Vanessa seems to be crazy about getting blood on her hands.  Is she not worried about her final speech?  Come on!  Get it together!

Veto Ceremony.  Becky looks great, even in regular shirts.  Clay uses the Veto on himself.  Vanessa puts up, as a replacement nominee . . . JASON!!!   So Vanessa is, for sure, on Shelli’s side of the house.

I’m not really sure who is going to home.  I imagine Jason’s side isn’t that strong, numberwise.  Jackie is angry, as Vanessa got Jeff out, and now Jackie may lose another ally.

. . .

In honor of Becky being on the block, here is a gif that I found –

BB17 Becky boob push

Superior Spider-Man 32

Superior Spider-Man 32

Plot Dan Slott

Script Christos Gage

Pencils Giuseppe Camuncoli

Inks John Dell

Color Antonio Fabela

Letterer Chris Elipoulos

Cover Dated October 2014

This issue is only my third with Superior Spider-Man issue, but I must say, I really dig Otto Octavius as Spider-Man.  I wouldn’t mind getting several trades of the character.  I also enjoy that it was a limited time, so it probably is super easy to have as a collection of trades on the bookshelf.  Now that I think of it, this is the fourth appearance that I own.  A+X 11 (Superior Spider-Man & Cyclops – I own it for the Thor and Magik team-up); Avenging Spider-Man 16, where he teams up with the Jean Grey School, including Kitty and Lockheed; and Wolverine Volume Five 2 and 3, where he meets Wolverine and gives him Wolverine’s armor insulated costume.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Superior_Spider-Man

There are three hardcovers that collect the 31 issues of the series and then the Amazing Spider-Man : Spider-Verse, which collects the final two issues of the series.  That might be how I read Spider-Verse.  I tried to do a search and didn’t see Ben Reilly has part of that mega-crossover but maybe that was more on how comicbookdb has the character listed.

http://comicbookdb.com/character_chron.php?ID=79106

Okay, so the Ben Reilly who was involved with Spider-Verse, was from Earth-94 – which makes sense as that’s when the Clone Saga started plus Ben Reilly is dead in the Proper Marvel Universe.  So I will need to track down whatever trade collects Scarlet Spiders 1 – 3, Spider-Verse 1, Spider-Verse Team-Up, and Amazing Spider-Man 9, 10, 11 and 13.

Okay, that’s enough of that, but I just won’t get another chance to write about Spider-Verse and I sort of wanted to write this so that I can one day refer to it.

Thankfully there is a recap page.  Otto Octavius took over Peter Parker’s body, which we knew.  As Peter, he fell in love with Anna Maria Marconi.  A temporal distortion occurred that brought Spider-Man 2099 to the present, cool how Parker’s company (that Octavius started – I believe) Horizon Labs eventually becomes Alchemax of 2099.  Back in Superior Spider-Man 19, there was a temporal implosion and Otto was missing for 24 hours.

Horizon Labs.  Several Months Ago.  Otto recalls the previous paragraph and we jump into the crux of this issue.  Editor Nick Lowe references, on the official first page of the comic, that this comic occurs during Superior Spider-Man 19.  You know what would have made this comic worthy of $4.99, including issue 19 or at least, the pages that this issue takes place in-between.  I would have preferred those pages, over the back up feature.  Which is nice and all but now I’m curious about what happened in issues 19 and 20, was Spider-Verse referenced in those last ten issues of the series?  This issue ends with such a build up to Spider-Verse, that I’m not sure how the last ten issues isn’t setting it up.  Does it?  Or does he conveniently forget this information and then it comes back to him?

Superior Spider-Man 32 XDoFP Kate Pryde 1

We get to the page why I bought this comic.  Otto witnesses several timelines, including Days of Future Past!  Other ones are Old Man Logan (which will be referenced later), 1602, Earth X, Future Imperfect and Deathlok, for some reason.

Otto lands, and he is in 2099 – which he feels makes perfect sense, as this era is missing their Spider-Man.

I know I’ve typed this before, but I really do dig the Superior Spider-Man costume.

People recognize that a Spider-Man is back, one dude calls Gabriel, Miguel’s brother.  Miguel being Spider-Man 2099.  Public Eye approaches Otto, they are surprised that he is taking the fight to them.  Which isn’t what Miguel does, he typically just runs off.  I do enjoy this revisit to 2099, as it is such a fun trip down memory lane of Peter David’s Spider-Man 2099 run.

Gabe come along and gives Otto a lift.  He references how Otto must be Peter Parker.  Nick Lowe gives us a handy editor note that Otto has purged all of Peter’s memories, so he doesn’t recall the events of Spider-Man Meets Spider-Man 2099.  Which I didn’t know that he eventually purged those memories, as last I knew, Otto was using that knowledge to fake pleasantries with anyone who Peter use to know.

Gabe takes Otto to Miguel’s apartment and Otto dismisses him, he doesn’t need a tour nor does he need the holographic interface explained to him.  Otto requests information about the technology he needs to create a time machine.  He gets them pretty easily.  He visits familiar locations – Stark / Fujikawa North American Headquarters and The Alchemax Building, Office of Tyler Stone.  Otto even takes out Vulture 2099 – Venture.

“Downtown.”  What’s Left of Old New York.  Otto is finishing his time machine, he has also changed the holographic display from a generic dude to a replica of Anna Maria Marconi – which I imagine is why that was included on the recap page.  Otto has made it possible to have Holo-Anna be connected to his webshooter.  He has made a portable time machine, and he is a genius enough to make it that it has a default bounce back to 2099, in case it doesn’t work out.

Superior Spider-Man 32 First Jump

This ride through the time stream is much better than his original one, seen as the first image above, well second image after the cover being the first.

I keep typing Otto, but I forgot about the fan base name for him, SpOck (Spider-Octopus) that I could pepper this review with.  I just don’t want to type “Superior Spider-Man” more than a few times.  Though, SpOck, does seem silly to use more than a few times as well.  I guess I can (and probably should) just call him, Spider-Man, but he seems better than that name.  Superior, if you will.

Otto sees that Reed, Thing and Human Torch are laying dead.  He comments, aloud, that he always figured Reed’s arrogance will be his own downfall.

Superior Spider-Man 32 What If Spider-Man Joined Fantastic Four Dead

We get the first death of Spider-Verse, The Spider-Man from the first issue of What If, Volume One, What If Spider-Man had Joined the Fantastic Four?  Which is pretty intense, that’s a Spider-Man that we know!

I do like how Otto’s reaction is just merely move on to his quest to get back home.  But he can’t avoid dead Spider-Mans.

Superior Spider-Man 32 Dead Spider-Mans

The House of M Spider-Man, some version of a Civil War Iron-Man and the worst of them, Spider-Man Armor from Web of Spider-Man 100!  The armor that didn’t even last the full issue of that anniversary issue.

Spider-Man Armor Action Figure

I loved that, even though it never appeared in the FOX Animated Series, they made an action figure of the armor!  I loved it so much!  There is just something about that costume, that I really enjoy.

When Spider-Man : The Other kept going into second printings (amazingly and surprisingly), the armor made a come back.

Spider-Man The Other Variants

How great are those covers!  I really wanted the Scarlet Spider and Spider-Armor variants, Marvel Knights Spider-Man 20 & 21, respectfully

2099.  Superior Spider-Man realizes that someone is killing Spider-Mans (which I have debated using “Spider-Men” but it doesn’t feel right) and knows that he will appear on that list, eventually.

Spider-Man : India, is being attacked by a guy in a nice suit but with a scuba gear helmet and the weapon that is clearly killing the Spider-Mans.  Otto shows up and knocks the guy out.  India chooses to go with him, he is honored to be the first of such an army.  Turns out, he is not the first.

Superior Spider-Man 32 Spider-Army

Issue ends with SpOck’s gathered (thus far) Spider-Army!

Thanks to Marvel Database’s excellent webpage for this issue for the confirmation on who these peeps are –

http://marvel.wikia.com/Superior_Spider-Man_Vol_1_32

The broad is from Old Man Logan
The Six Arm Spider-Man, my mind just tells me he is from a What If Peter never lost his additional arms
The Spider-Man that gets the star treatment in the following back up story, is from the What If based on Spider-Man vs Wolverine, which revealed that the Hobgoblin was Ned Leeds – which he wasn’t.  I do like the idea that, after Gwen died, Peter realized that he needs to distance himself from who he loves, as his foes will always go after them.
Spider-Man Noir, I know from Shattered Dimensions, the best levels in that game!
I wasn’t even curious about the little Spider-Man there, at first, I thought it was like a Spider-Boy, as I wasn’t seeing his tail until I read, from the website, that that is Spider-Mankey from Marvel Apes and then I noticed the tail.

Such a good start an I’m super intriqued by Spider-Verse, I really need to know how this played out.

I keep remembering Spider-peeps and checking both Marvel Database and comicbookdb to see if they were shown.  Spider-Ham was, a version of Ben Reilly was and Spider-Man from Mutant X wasn’t, as he was killed in his first appearance in Mutant X 5, but I had forgotten that.  Also, Spider-Boy, from the Amalgam Universe, shows up in Spider-Verse 2, that’s pretty awesome!

I really like how, for every one-time outfit change Spider-Man has had, there is an alternate universe where that costume got to be the mainstay.

The Future Spider-Man from Amazing 500 did not appear in Spider-Verse, probably as he did die in Amazing 500 (but appeared in the two issues that preceded the renumbering – 57 & 58.  He apparently was kicked off the Avengers, in the future, shown in Amazing 637.  I could have sworn I read something about 500 Spider-Man appearing in a Spider-Verse miniseries.  Okay, he is this guy –

http://marvel.wikia.com/Ezekiel_Sims_(Earth-4)

Who used that same sweet outfit, and was in Spider-Verse Team Up 1, and six other issues.  That explains that

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spider-Verse

For anyone that wants to know everything that happened, that link has everything, from it looks like – plot wise.  May 2015, is the giant omnibus styled collection.

http://marvel.wikia.com/Spider-Verse_Vol_1_2

Spider-Verse 2 seems to be the issue that gathers multiple known alternate Spider-Mans, including Yu Komori, the Spider-Man of Japan that appeared in the 1997 Manga series!

Before Time Runs Out, Part One

I’ve wanted this issue ever since Barbiere was interviewed by Comic Book Resources’ Dave Richards.

Which it wasn’t really the interview but the preview art by Checchetto :

I’m pretty much coming into this cold, so let’s hope this recap page is informative.  In the future, Cannonball and Smasher have a baby.  Smasher’s real name is, Izzy.  In the past, Smasher tells Captain America that she is falling in love with a teammate, who is Cannonball.  I believe that was during Infinity.

The Present.  Avengers Tower.  Smasher narrates the opening of the issue.  Her full name is Izzy Kane.  Smasher, typically, is a member of the Shi’Ar Imperial Guard.  She has done a pregnancy test and it has come back . . . positive!  The Imperial Guard shows up at this point and tells her that she needs to come home.

The Guthrie Farm.  Cumberland County, Kentucky.  Bobby and Sam have gone home, well, Sam’s home.  Melody, one of Sam’s many siblings, wants to meet Izzy.  Sam references how it has been a long time since he has met someone special.  I guess he has had Dani Moonstar and Lila Cheny as love interests.  Melody references how she has mutant powers, so that’s another Guthrie child, making four total – if I’m counting right.

Izzy holo-calls Sam and informs him that she is leaving the planet on short notice.  By the time she starts talking, she is done.

On the ship, Smasher tells her mentor (or a guy named, Mentor) that she is ready to leave the planet behind.  Once they come out of hyperdrive, the doctors want to inspect her new ‘seed’ as it should be a source of power for the Shi’ar.

Kentucky.  Ma Guthrie tells Sam about how she met his father.  They met at a fair, as they were from different counties, they had a nice time but went their separate ways.  Afterwards, he went to every farm until he found her again.  Oh the days before Facebook!  She tells him to go after Smasher.

Avengers Tower.  Manifold, who I believe was an Avenger during Infinity, tells Sam that the Avengers can’t help him.  Bobby wants to help his oldest friend but they don’t know anyone with a spaceship.  Sam actually knows someone with a spaceship, so there is still hope.

The New Xavier School.  Sam (and Bobby’s) friend is of course . . . Magik!  I wish Checchetto got to draw a proper page of Magik, instead we get this double page splash (which looks cool) that we only see the back of her head (twice) and see her from behind in the bottom left corner of the page.

I really like the idea of Magik staying in touch with Cannonball, well, I imagine it is Sam who keeps in touch with everybody he has ever worked with.

So Sam knows Illyana and she knows Young Scott Summers, who is a current member of the Starjammers, so it is their ship that Sam and Bobby are going to tag along on.  The Starjammers’ ship should be able to catch up to the Shi’ar ship as they head to their homeworld, Chandilar.

Magik references that young Scott appriciates the chance to see his old All New X-Men teammates but it would have been nice to see a glimpse of the entire cast but I get that Barbiere doesn’t want to get too involved with the X-Men’s current storylines.

Sunspot references what Kitty Pryde knows, nothing good ever comes to the X-Men when they leave the planet.  Sam tells Bobby that he isn’t coming with him.  Bobby doesn’t fight him, as he has a company to run.  He recently bought AIM, so that’s the company I believe.

One of the Starjammers says, “Let’s go catch that Shi’ar bird!” which I like the reminder that the Shi’ar evolve from birds.  Sam calls both Illyana and Sunspot his best friends and the page ends with Sunspot calling him, Tiger.

Shi’ar ship.  Mentor keeps calling her baby, a seed.  I would have corrected him so that he stop calling it that.  At least call it an egg or something.  Also, it is a cold expression that I get keeps the fetus as a detached thing.  I only imagine that Smasher gives birth and the child is enlisted into the Smasher Corp (if that is what it is called).

Mentor’s poor choice of words keeps getting worst as he refers to the fetus as, Spawn of their Guardians.

Corsair is right, their ship caught up to Smasher’s, rather quickly.  Scott has become quite the space pirate.  Cannonball is an honorary pirate now.  The Shi’ar crew freaks out as they are yanked out of hyperspace (so the medical exam hasn’t occurred yet).  Smasher isn’t quite happy with Cannonball being there.

Corsair makes a reference to the Guardians with the Galaxy with a Rocket mention.  Sam goes for a hug but is shot down.  He wants to confess his love to her, but the Shi’ar crew come back to their senses and go on the attack.  Corsair tries to calm the situation down.

Once Mentor knows that Cannonball is Smasher’s partner, he puts him down from the force field.  Izzy talks to Sam, recognizing that it is a sweet gesture coming all the way out there to space, just for her.

I really love X-Nerd Wil Moss giving us a note to check out Uncanny X-Men 341, the issue that Cannonball went toe-to-toe with Gladiator, it is also a Christmas issue.

Sam finally gets to tell Izzy that he loves her and Corsair has such a great reaction, pumping his fist to the sky.

They are all in rogue space, so they get attacked by a third party.  Cannonball tells the crews that he will take care of this as it is his fault, the Starjammers were only doing him a favor.  Smasher is coming along, as she wants to show the universe how great of a couple they are.  Corsair wants them to hurry, as he doesn’t want his ship attacked next.

Smasher tries to tell Cannonball their big news but they have to shake off the alien ship, which isn’t a ship – it is a giant alien!  Cannonball gets tangled up and is about to be eaten when Smasher does her thing and frees him.  She states that she love Sam too.

They straight up explode the alien!

Back on the ship, Sam tries to assure her that he is ready for whatever comes next.  With that, she tells him that she is pregnant.  He is super excited but is now worried that she should have stayed on the ship.

Corsair is told to get off Mentor’s ship.  Once they leave, Mentor turns to Cannonball and tells him he is worthy and that he is Shi’ar now.

Issue ends with them on Chandilar, Months Later.  Sam Guthrie is a proud parent of a baby boy.

Next issue, Sunspot vs AIM, which I doubt I will buy.
