The nice thing about this issue is that someone remembered that Kitty was present at the Inversion spell.

New York City.  The police are gathering outside of a bank and shooting wildly inside.  None of the bullets are landing.

She doesn’t care that anyone learns her real name, which I would like to see if there is any fallout from this issue but I doubt anything from AXIS will be referenced again except for the big bulletpoints.

The police are moving closer and some detectives are trying to get CEO Emmett out of the bank as Kitty is trying to get pass the giant lock on the bank door.

As Shadowcat ever done this trick before?  It seems brand new, it makes sense that a corrupted Kitty would think of clever ways to apply her powers.  I’ve gone on record before about if she and Invisible Woman wanted to go on a killing spree, no one would ever stop them.  Susan would make them invisible and Kitty would phase random objects into people’s heads.  By the time the body hit the floor, they would be underground.

I also like the idea of how easily, once you remove the back of a wall, the security boxes are easy to get to.  Grant it, the wall would be doubly enforced but if you phase it away, super easy.

She also wants to be seen.  She could have gone through the back of the bank, got into the security safes and gotten out of there without anyone noticing.

As Shadowcat is turning around, the lady she told her name to, has picked up a gun.  For some reason, she isn’t letting the fleet of police officers do their jobs.  Kitty tells her to go ahead and shoot, and the lady does.

Kitty straight up lets this lady shoot at her so that the bullet will phase through her and hit the CEO guy, which is totally messed up.  This should also be followed up.

Shadowcat’s motivation for the bank robbery is that the CEO has been funneling billions of dollars and placing the money into anti-mutant lobbies.  So she is corrupted but her main goal of protecting mutants is still there.  That’s pretty twisted.

Kitty gives the lady a bunch of cash and tells her that the photographs will show that she was paid to do it.

But is that right?  Wouldn’t the officers just explain that the lady was ‘tricked’ into killing the CEO.  So that lady has nothing to worry about, unless she was next in line for promotions.  Though that bank will probably be experiencing some in-office promotions.  You know, when enough time has passed.

Kitty makes her way, easily, through the police squad.  She hijacks a police cruiser.

The police know that they are chasing the X-Men’s Shadowcat.  Apparently, they know how to take her down, with gas, as she still has to breathe.  Who provides that information?  Is that some messed up protocol that came out of the Civil War files that Tony Stark gathered?  I know he kept them all private but it is the government, they probably had back ups.

Kitty likes that she is being pursued.

The police shoot a gas canister into her car.  She swerves into a police barricade and the car explodes.

Don’t worry, Shadowcat phased feet away and walks with the box full of jewelry.  Pretty clever.

Pretty good little story here.

My love for Freddie Prinze Jr. started way back in 1999’s mega hit, She’s All That

There is something about how intense FPJ is as Zack, as he tries to balance the hacky sack and how it is a complete metaphor for the pressures that he is under.  Such a fantastic scene.

I may have seen I Know What You Did Last Summer and I Still Know What You Did Last Summer but he wasn’t the star of those films.  Though those films are awesome if you are a Sarah Gellar or a Jennifer Love Hewitt fan.

She’s All That, gave us Rachel Leigh Cook – who only really remember from when she played the Joey character in Dawson’s first real movie and from her excellent turn in Anti-Trust.  Which is still the only film I really like Ryan Phillipe in.

She’s All That also gave us the first of many times when Matthew Lillard and Freddie Prinze Jr acted together.  Such a fun duo these two actors are when they get to play off of each other as teammates or rivals.

She’s All That has an outstanding cast – Paul Walker, Kevin Pollack, a very young Anna Paquin, Jodi O’Keefe of Prison Break Fame (the lousy third season), Dule Hill and Tim Matheson (West Wing Represent, yo!) and it even has Lil’ Kim AND Usher!  Gabrielle Union is also great in it as is Chris Owen.  Even Elden Henson of Mighty Ducks fame and soon to be Netflix’s Daredevil’s Foggy Nelson, is in this as the best friend to Rachel Leigh Cook.

Before he was a named actor, he was in a movie titled, Hostage High, wherein Ricky Shroder takes his old high school hostage, at gun point, and the sheriff played by Henry Wrinkler.

I wasn’t a big fan of Wing Commander, I blame not really knowing the game that it was based off of and not being the biggest space movie fan.

Down To You, I simply adore, as I’m also a huge Julia Stiles fan.  There is just something about her that is super intoxicating and I seek out any new film of hers.  FPJ needs to do more romantic comedies, and I believe his career was hurt when he tried to get away from that.  He could be the next Tom Hanks!

Boys and Girls is still a personal favorite of mine.  This may be a favorite movie of mine for all the cast members – Claire Forlani (though I may still give Mallrats the edge) and Jason Biggs.  This was one of the only films that Heather Donahue of Blair Witch Project, ever made after the big film.  I used this film to prove to my father that Blair Witch Project wasn’t real, as he wasn’t believing any of the evidence.  Alison Hannigan also has a small role in it.  I simply love the soundtrack and the main song from it – Ronan Keating’s If I Don’t Tell You Now.

I could watch, Boys & Girls, all day.  All Day!  It use to be one of those films that I would play while doing papers in college.

Head over Heels is fun, he’s the romantic lead but he doesn’t have the burden to carry the film.  I like Monica Potter (of Parenthood fame) and whenever that show made her cry (her go-to character trait) I thought about this film and how she just had a good time in it.  There is a running joke with one of the models in the film, that I still think about.

Summer Catch, is FPJ back in a comedy.  Jessica Biel is the love interest and Matthew Lillard is back as a teammate.  One of my favorite baseball films.  If you want a movie about No Hitters, this is the one for you.  Brittany Murphy is in it as is Bruce Davison (playing Biel’s father) and Wilmer Valderrama of That 70’s Show fame.

But it really is a good film!

Then we get to 2002 & 2004’s Scooby Doo films.  The first one is my favorite and the cast commentary is a real delight!  FPJ is Fred, his wife Sarah Michelle Geller is Daphne, Matthew Lillard is Shaggy, Scooby is Scooby and Velma is played by the always amazing and should work more, Linda Cardellini.  I wonder if Linda is still friends with FPJ and the gang as I remember thinking that she was the sole person who wasn’t connected to FPJ prior to filming.  I do like Seth Green being added to the cast for the second film.

I haven’t seen any of the animated films that he has lent his voice – Shark Bait, Happily N’Ever After and Deigo.  His voice is unique enough for animation but I sort of need the man himself to be seen.

I’m not sure if after Scooby Doo, he decided to purposely take time away from the screen but he starts taking time off and after three years, came back with Brooklyn Rules.  Probably best known as his return to dramatic work since his first two films – To Gillian on Her 37th Birthday (with the incredible Michelle Pfeiffer) and The House of Yes – which is more of a comedy but with serious issues going on around it.  House of Yes is what got FPJ in the Miramax house and gave him a career.  I’ve always been a fan of early Miramax and Lionsgate.

Brooklyn Rules stars Alec Bladwin, Scott Caan and Mena Suvari.  FPJ will eventually work with most of the cast of American Pie.

New York City Serenade, is a very interesting film that has scenes that I still think about.  Like Chris Klein losing it on a costumer at the photo development center and FPJ has to cool the situation.  FPJ (people refer to him as that, right?) is a budding film maker.  Wallace Shawn (of Princess Pride fame, Inconceivable!) plays himself.  It isn’t an easy watch, with characters making baffeling decisions throughout it.  FPJ’s character, Owen, should have ditched Chris Klein’s character so much earlier in the film.  I don’t quite get the characters’ friendship.

His last film, believe it or not, is Jack and Jill vs. the World WAY BACK IN 2008!  I’m not sure why he isn’t bankable anymore.  Well, I guess looking at his last films but good for him for trying to branch out and get some range.  Probably my favorite Taryn Manning film, as she gets to play a different sort of character, one that is still a tad zany but grounded.

After this, he has two children (Gellar doing the hard work) in 2009 (a daughter) and 2012 (a son).

He has dabbled in television.

He was the Male Nanny for Ross and Rachel in Season 9 Episode 6, my favorite episode.

Though the ones where they are throwing the ball and Joey has to keep covering for Chandler and Monica and refers to himself as a horrible human being, are pretty fun.  5×21 and 5×9, respectfully.

He had his own show, Freddie, on ABC that lasted 22 episodes in 2005 / 2006.

Freddie Prinze Jr has worked with WWE off and on, I believe that is his most current gig, actually.

In 2010, for 24’s eight season, he played Cole Ortiz, which also featured another favorite actress of mine, Jennifer Westfeldt.  Season three is by far my favorite season of the show, with the moment with Jack in front of the hotel with the dude’s daughter, but eight is up there.  3×23 is the episode that made me a hardcore fan of Jack Bauer!

That’s my retrospective on Freddie Prinze Jr., who really needs to act more!

At one point, I owned all of these films but traded them in for cash, which was a very sad day for me.

Chris Sims is writing a comic for Marvel!?! That is awesome! It is based off of the 90s FOX X-Men Animated Series, so the chances are super high that Kitty wouldn’t be involved in this series but I will put myself on the list so that I can support this title. This comic, though, is five dollars, which I can’t believe that the bulk of the issues above are $3.99, that just seems way too much.

I wish they showed the art for the second cover.

Kitty wasn’t involved at all during Grand Morrison’s run, outside of a hundred faces cover and two vague references to her during Emma Frost spotlight issues. I’m asking for these series to be pulled for me and I might as well add Old Man Logan. Better to be safe than sorry!  In an entire, Burnham mentioned how he got Morrison’s blessing for this, which I like.  Apparently, he even gave some plot suggestions too.  That’s pretty awesome.

I wish the covers were more homages to the original Secret Wars, or gave us a hint at who the cast may be. I’m just hoping Lockheed makes a few panel appearances in this. I noticed this has a set number of issues, whereas most of the other Secret Wars 2015 are implied ongoings. Which can only last eight or less issues, right? All of these series should be done by Secret Wars 2015 issue eight, I imagine.

 

I’m glad that they put all of the Star Wars titles together, so that I can just skip right over those.

I’m torn on this, as I own the Fantastic Four Roast and the Hembeck Destroys the Marvel Universe, and I would highly recommend both of those but do I need to own this? I’m sure I own the majority of those Marvel Age issues too. Actually, I only own issue 122 and don’t have any of the rest. Oops! But that’s odd as I know Hembeck has several pages of art in the issues I do own. I wonder why it isn’t more of an everything collection. What are they holding out for?

 

What I really wish, was that Kitty was on the cover of this, so I could justify the purchase (as I’m that guy) now I have to debate its worth. Dang it! I will probably end up buying it. Eight dollars is a bit much, maybe Hastings will have it cheaper than just a dollar off. Who knows, not me, that’s for sure.

I’ve been really enjoying this crossover thus far. Fifty dollars seems a bit much, but it is fourteen issues, so that is probably reasonable.

I’m adding seven ongoings to my list!  That is a lot!

Now that I’m looking over my list, I didn’t put Deadpool’s Secret Secret Wars, so that could be another four dollars.

I’m sort of glad that I’m working at Hastings now, for this sole reason, as I imagine Kitty, Lockheed nor Magik will appear in every issue of Secret Wars 2015 and that saves me having to own those issues to later sell to Lonestar Comics.

Uncanny X-Men Annual 1 2014

The story that finally tells what happened to Tempus back in Uncanny X-Men Volume Three Issue 17 and what Cyclops already knew what happened as we learn in Issue 23 – the Cuckoos told him.

Hopefully this means that she can start appearing in Uncanny again as she has gone into the background as of late (though most of the students have).  Which makes sense as Bendis wouldn’t want to keep dealing with the characters talking about a story that us readers have not seen yet.

This story continues into the All New X-Men Annual but Magik doesn’t appear in that one.

Issue opens Tempus bouncing around time.  She starts with being far into the future, the future with Jonathan Raven.   Next, she bounces to the far past of 1875.  The days of Rawhide Kid, not sure why Bendis didn’t go with Two-Gun Kid, that would have made more sense.  Man, I can really go for a proper sequel of Blaze of Glory.  Apache Skies, was meant to be a sequel but it wasn’t the same.

The cowboys don’t recognize her Australian accent.

I do like that Bendis didn’t make Rawhide Kid overly gay like Ron Zimmerman tried to portray.  Rawhide learns that Tempus bounces when her life is threatened so he pulls his gun on her.  She time shifts out of there and we see that he was only merely threatening her.

Finally, she bounces to 2099 and we get a page of X-Men 2099 but I don’t know any of these folks.  I had several of the action figures back in the day but I’m sure I played with those toys wrong with barely the knowledge that was on the back of the card.

We learn that Magik is alive and well in 2099.  If only she was part of the X-Men 2099 original line of comics, I would have bought those.

We see that somehow, Nightcrawler, is also alive in 2099.  Also?  He is the Wong to Illyana’s Sorceress Supreme.

Is Doctor Strange not the Sorcerer Supreme of the entire galaxy?

Magik could really relate to bouncing around time as she and Dani did it for a while.

Poor Magik has lost her mutant power so she only has magic to rely on now.

Seven Years Later.  Which is a very long time.

Tempus has a husband and child now.  I really like Illyana being so warm to their son.

Magik asks when Tempus is going back to her proper time era, which upsets Tempus.  She has a family now.  I get the impression that Magik has not brought up the topic before.

We don’t learn the names of her husband or son.  As they are chatting, the boy is hungry, a giant explosion occurs.

Eva keeps calling Illyana, Dr. Rasputin.  I guess it works like when Brother Voodoo became the Sorcerer Supreme and people started calling him, Doctor Voodoo.  To which, I am pretty sure, the title of ‘Doctor’ is not also given with the other title.

Illyana is fighting a giant four arm dude.

As much as I hate Magik being wounded, her line about being ‘wounded unfavorably’ is pretty amazing.

Poor Illyana Rasputin, the Sorcerer Supreme of the Galaxy, dies in her first appearance.  What happens to Nightcrawler, now?

Magik’s final words is a warning that Beast needs to die, so that’ll be interesting to watch.

Tempus’ family shows up, while the giant man person is still on the battlefield.  He is about to kill her when she time bounces to the dinosaur times as a triceratops comes at her.  This is how the issue ends.

This issue, we get the confirmation that we so desired!  But first, this stuff happened.

Shaker Heights, Cleveland.  Endo is running along the streets, at top speed.  She gets to a house and is looking for a Taylor.  Three soldiers are ready for her, one is a green lady.

New Orleans, Louisiana.  The other escapees are discussing how Endo ran away.  They want to get her back.  Neuro reviews her file, which he has as he hacked the database.  Junk doesn’t like that Neuro has all of their secrets.

Junk and Skel want to go save Endo, but Neuro and Sharp want to go their own way.  Before they announce their decision, Sharp and the voice in his head, have a discussion.  I wonder if that happens in real time, are the others just staring at them the entire time, patiently waiting for a response?

Once Sharp and Neuro are outside of the van, Neuro wants to stick together.  He gets a punch to his face for his foolish thought.

Cleveland.  Endo is confronted by the three soldiers.  They reveal Endo’s messed up origin.  Taylor isn’t a dude, but a lady.  Endo started life out as a man and he and his lady were trying for a baby, using fertility treatments.  Professor Cornelius saw that Endo was perfect for what he was looking for.  Apparently, it wasn’t Cornelius’ plan to turn him into a woman but that’s just what happens.

The snake lady hits Endo with some venom and forces him/her to grow in size.  Junk and Skel show up to witness this and try to help out.

Neuro finds an Internet cafe and makes a call, as he has finally hacked all of the files and has some information to bargain with.

Sharp finds a quite space and threatens to cut his own throat unless the voice reveals who he is.

Weapon X Program 4 Ogun Kitty

It is Ogun, yo!  We get a quick recap of Death of Wolverine, including Ogun taking control of Kitty’s body.

Issue ends with Sharp in full Ogun garb.  So now it is on!

ForgetMeNot’s Third Appearance!  Can we go for a fourth, please?!

This issue gets confusing, with how Hope’s coma and the MeMe program thing are related.  It probably makes sense for those who are following the series completely, which is how you should do it but I’m a crazy person.

Fantomex apparently turn bad in the two issues we don’t own.  The team put a hallucination-horsepipe on his forehead, so now he thinks he won and accomplished all of his goals.

MeMe is talking to a voice on a speaker.

Cable and Marrow are interrogating Mojo, in an almost human body.  Rereading the recap page, apparently MeMe is really Hope, mimicking the real MeMe’s powers.

MeMe follows the recording to the source.  Psylocke and Domino are sparring.  Doctor Nemesis is enjoying his coffee.

X-Force V4 13 ForgetMeNot

The voice belongs to . . . ForgetMeNot!!!  He’s back from the dead and with no explanation.  He now is sporting a chest plate like Iron Man from the films.

ForgetMeNot gives this big ol’ speech about how Hope is just some girl.

Cable wants Mojo to explain how they can get Hope out of her coma.  He walks away for some more tools.  Mojo reveals that he experimented on Marrow and that she gave up her baby.  Marrow kills him.  Mojo may actually be Volga, I’m not sure.  They don’t use any names.

ForgetMeNot explains to MeMe how Hope lost her way back to her own head, she can’t get back as MeMe is currently preoccupying that space.

Five hours later.  The team gathers to say their goodbyes.  It is too late for MeMe, she has deactivated herself.

Domino references a Badoon, how does she know that alien race?

Issue ends with ForgetMeNot with his hand on his head, I don’t think he is happy with how this all worked out.  I imagine he was hoping Hope would wake up as soon as MeMe shut down.

I imagine he will be in issue 14.

I don’t know, I had a hard time following this issue.  Usually I can jump in and out of a series but with Spurrier’s writing, everything needs to be read.  Though I was able to follow his X-Men Legacy that way but I read enough of those to stay current.

We are celebrating St. Patrick’s Day here at S&FwM!  This is Shamrock’s second appearance as she isn’t in the second issue.

Apparently, in the second issue only two fights happened.  We’ll review it one of these days.  Daredevil won a bout as did Arabian Knight.  Daredevil won for Grandmaster and Arabian Knight for the unknown party but we know that party is Death.  The ultimate party.

Chapter Four

The Grandmaster’s Team – Wolverine, Thing and Le Peregine appear in a grassy area.  Wolverine is the resident hot head and possible racist, but I’ll get to that second one.  Wolverine is prepared to fight Thing, but he has to tell them that they are on the same side.  Funny now, in retrospect, where they have established that Ben and Logan are long time friends prior to them being superheroes.  Thing also doesn’t recognize Wolverine either.  There couldn’t be that many short Canadians with claws on the back of their hands, could there be?  Wolverine asks who Le Peregine is, he tells them that he is France’s premiere superhero.  Wolverine decides to seek out the golden portion of the sphere that Grandmaster and Death have made the games about.

Death’s Team – Angel, Black Panther and Vanguard appeared at the same time as the other team.  Angel and Black Panther attempt to catch up with each other, a detail I really like.  Unfortunately, Angel hasn’t been with the X-Men in a while and Black Panther has also not been with the Avengers.  Vanguard doesn’t like that he’s only the Soviet Union’s main hero and not really connected with the American teams.  I believe he’s just a little embarrassed.

Vanguard wants to be team leader.  Angel offers that Black Panther should be the leader, as he’s the King of Wakanda.  Black Panther states that Angel also has leadership experience and that this group doesn’t really need a leader.  They are on, essentially, a seeking an item mission.  Angel takes to the air.  Black Panther recommends they try stealth.  Vanguard laughs at the stealth technique as it is high noon and they are in the wide open in a meadow.  By the time he turns around, Black Panther is gone. Black Panther discovers a archeological dig.  There are hundreds of clay soldiers.  Out of nowhere, Wolverine attacks Black Panther.  Black Panther’s heighten senses alerted him, just in time, to duck.  Wolverine wastes no time in popping his claws. Meanwhile. in the air, Angel gets shown why he was never the most popular member of the Original Five.  le Penegine proves that flying, isn’t enough.  Which Angel should know as he had to bring constant items with him in those original issues, to be of some use to the team.  le Penegine knows marital arts, and starts giving a beating to the X-Man. Thing and Vanguard get into a fight. We get to the racist portion of the chapter.  Wolverine keeps calling Black Panther, Blackey.  Which is pretty insulting and he should be ashamed of himself.  To make matters worst, Wolverine is trying to kill Black Panther. Thing shows up from his fight, he won it naturally, and tries to get Wolverine to stop fighting like this is a death match.  Its a mere game with not very high stakes.  Either the Grandmaster gets his dead brother back to the world of the living or the Grandmaster dies. Wolverine doesn’t care.  Both Wolverine and Black Panther smell something and it is their portion of the orb.  Thing punches the ground and lifts it up.  The score is now 2 – 1 in Grandmaster’s favor.

Chapter Five

Grandmaster’s Team – Sasquatch, Captain America and Blitzkrieg.  Death’s Team – Storm, Shamrock and Collective Man.  The two teams are in the jungle.  Grandmaster’s team splits off as Captain America would rather they stuck together.  We learn that Collective Man explains to his team how his powers work.  He is really five dudes who combine to one person, who then can harness the power of all dudes in China.  Which is pretty impressive.  They also split off.  Captain America meets Shamrock, she has the luck of the Irish.  She avoids a snake but the snake attacks Cap.  Take that Cap!  Shamrock locates the shard of the orb and scores a point.  For some reason, the caption box states it is a score for the Grandmaster, even though Shamrock is on Death’s team.  The score should be even.

Chapter Six

See Kitty to the Hulk’s left, our right?  That’s pretty cool!  I almost had to take this issue out of my collection but I started really looking at the crowd scenes.

Death reveals that Grandmaster won, 3 – 1.

Invisible Woman gets behind Death and lowers her hood, revealing what we already know, she is Death.  This freaks out the gathered heroes.

Death doesn’t really care about who won, she had a plan.  To bring back the Collector, Grandmaster’s brother – the entire point of this event – Death requires a being’s death of who has the same amount of life force that the Collector has.  Of course, the only one around with that type of energy is . . . Grandmaster.  He accepts and dies, and now the Collector lives.  He sees his brother’s dead body and wants to correct that wrong.  Death proposes they play a game.  He accepts.

The miniseries ends with all of the heroes being returned to where they were before this event started.  Life continues on Earth again.
