Book One : Red Supremacy – Chapter Three

Okay, this one took a lot of work to figure out if I needed to keep this one.  Marvel Database stated Kitty was in this issue but comicbookdb stated she didn’t.  I looked and looked and couldn’t see her.  Then my pal, Kaiolino, pointed out where she was on the final page and now I see where she is on the page. Right between Havok and Apocalypse.

All this after I had my dear amigo, a0040pc, delete her off of the Marvel Database.  I readded her, as it was my fault and misunderstanding.  It was quite the day.

So before all of that happens, these events occurred :

So the heroes failed.  Leaving Magneto to create a new Brotherhood – Jack O’Lantern, Doctor Doom, Loki, Mystique, Deadpool, Sabretooth and Enchrantress.  Those made the cover but these folks are also in the group – Carnage, Hobgoblin and Absorbing Man.  Which is a bit awkward as Carnage and Hobgoblin got side miniseries.

Remender writes all the villains with bantering amongst each other, which I like.  I wouldn’t mind him having a go on a Super Villain Team-Up title.

The issue actually opens with Deadpool dragging Iron Man to safety.  I like Deadpool’s wartime narration, it only lasts the first page.  It reminded me of that Community episode – Pillows and Blankets.

Deadpool is explaining that he came with the villains but he is a hero.  Iron Man just wants to know where he is being dragged to.

The Hobgoblin is like the Green Goblin but more, Hob – great observation Deadpool / Remender.

Is Carnage from the South or a redneck?  I don’t believe I read him before in that voice.

Most of the villains want to go back to killing once they are done saving the world.

Enchantress makes a quip about fondue parties.  What happened to the Asgardians?  Too much time on Earth?  But that is where they are most interesting.

Off to the side, Doctor Doom and Loki watch.  Carnage ripped out one of Red Onslaught’s eyes, the left one.

Loki tells Magneto that he is a hugger now.

With Iron Man out of commission, Quentin Quire is blocking Red Onslaught’s telepathic powers.  Genesis is trying to encourage Quire.

Captain America appears and distracts Red Onslaught.  Turns out it is only Mystique in disguise.  She must be really mad  that Red Skull took half of her late husband’s brain.

Speaking of which, Quentin Quire and Genesis huddled together reminded me of when Nate Grey and Franklin Richards were inside Onslaught, in the original story.  Maybe its just me.

Enchantress makes Red Onslaught fall in love with her.  He is pure hate so now with love added to him, he’s all love now.

Meanwhile, Absorbing Man becomes adamantium (because of the Sentinels) and tears them apart.  Doing so releases Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch.  Now they can recreate their spell to reverse who controls Red Onslaught and put Xavier back in charge.  As the last time he was in charge of an Onslaught, it worked out perfectly.  Not

For some reason, this undoes Enchantress’ spell and Red Onslaught is back to being pure rage.

Quire can’t take it anymore and passes out.  Now Red Onslaught has access to all of his powers.

Deadpool wonders, since he saved Iron Man, if he can be an Avenger.  Iron Man turns him down, which seems harsh.  He’s a very much alive Wolverine and he’s funny, why not add him?  Deadpool dragged Iron Man somewhere so he can recharge.  I like that Deadpool gets to call Iron Man a jerk.  That’s one word for him.

While Strange and Wanda are casting their Inversion spell, It leaves them defenseless but Genesis is there to protect them.  Or try too.  All of the united villains are now under Red Onslaught’s sway.  Sabretooth is about to kill Genesis when Deadpool saves him, just in time.  An awesome callback to Remender’s Uncanny X-Force arc, Final Execution.

Iron Man is now on the scene so he is able to go back to blocking Red Onslaught’s telepathic powers.

Doctor Strange gets knocked out, so it is up to Doom to assist with Wanda’s spell.  The spell is successful and minutes go by.  The villains are gone and the heroes are waking up.

Iron Man states it was five minutes of missing time.  He calls Deadpool an annoyance, even though he help save the day plus he is right behind Iron Man.  So ungrateful!

Havok is holding Red Skull’s human body.  The threat of Red Onslaught is gone.  Now the question is, is Xavier controlling the body.  The X-Men want to take him to their school.  The Avengers want to lock him up.  Havok sides with the X-Men.  Captain Falcon wants Red Skull to stand trial for his crimes, as if that has ever happened after one of these events.

Havok wants to wait until Steve Rogers shows up.  Rogers lost his Super Soldier Serum and now he is a very fit 80 year old man.  Rogers wants to take Red Skull to prison, surprising everyone that he took the Avengers’ side.  Not

Havok splits with the Avengers, Rogers can now find some other mutant figurehead.

Genesis is now Young Apocalypse.  He tells the gathered heroes that there is no sign of Xavier in the Red Skull’s body.  Somehow he knows this.  Deadpool hugs Apocalypse.  Evan tells him not to do it again.

Havok agrees to let the Avengers take Red Skull’s unconscious body.  Wasp doesn’t want Havok to leave.

AXIS 3 Kitty final page

See Kitty between Havok and Apocalypse?  I didn’t at first.

Harsh of Havok speaking to Wasp like that!

Looks like the X-Men and the Avengers are back at odds, again.

Poor Wasp and Havok though but I only really know them from their flirting days of Uncanny Avengers, their marriage and child are only plots I’ve read summaries of.

Next issue has Apocalypse teaming with the X-Men and Hulk being inverted to Kulh (get it?)

I’m not set to get any of these item in titles – Magneto 11, All New X-Factor 15, Loki Agent of Asgard 7, Deadpool 36, AXIS Hobgolbin and AXIS Carnage 1.

Hopefully Kitty keeps showing up in this crossover.

X-Men : Days of Future Past – Oscar Nominee

Posted by John Klein III on January 17, 2015
Posted in: Award Shows, Websites. Tagged: X:DoFP. 1 Comment

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/87th_Academy_Awards

Not only is NPH hosting the show, but X-Men : Days of Future Past is nominated for an Oscar!  They are up for Best Visual Effects, the winners will be Richard Stammers, Lou Pecora, Tim Crosbie and Cameron Waldbauer.

They are up against Captain America : Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy.  Also, Interstellar and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, but let’s root for the comic book films!

Guardians is also up for Best Makeup and Hairstyling.

HuluPlus didn’t carry the Golden Globes but I’m hoping that is an issue with NBC and that we might be able to watch the Oscars.  Which will be on February 22, 2015 on ABC.

For the first time, I don’t really know that many of these films.  Having a one year old puts a real damper on which films to watch.  I do want to watch Foxcatcher, or rather, I really want to watch a documentary on the story.  That’s becoming more of a thing for me, that I rather see a documentary over a film version, as they often change details for story purposes.

I really want to watch Birdman as well!

I beleive Grand Budapest Hotel is on Netflix, so we should be able to watch one of these films.

I also want to see Whiplash, as I hear JK Simmons is amazing in it.

Just for the giggles of it and to remind everyone about their superhero roles, here are some run downs –

Best Actor has three superheroes! Bradley Cooper, the voice of Rocket.  Benedict Cumberbatch, Doctor Strange, and Michael Keaton, Batman.  I rather Keaton win it.

Best Actress has two.  Marion Cotillard was Talia in Dark Knight Rises and Felicity Jones was in Amazing Spider-Man 2 in a pretty thankless role.  I do want to watch Gone Girl, as I’ve heard some amazing reviews.

Best Supporting Actor has three.  I do like how, with the increase in comic book based films, all of these A-List actors have started attaching themselves to these movies.  This category has two Hulks!  Edward Norton and Mark Ruffalo.  JK Simmons is J. Jonah Jameson, apparently Marc Webb hasn’t been able to find a suitable actor to be the new JJJ that can break the mold set for Simmons, which is pretty cool.  Simmons is also the voice of the Yellow M&M, which I like to tell people.  Clearly.  Robert Duvall is a legend.

Best Supporting Actress, Emma Stone with the sole representation!  Laura Dern is in the Jurassic Park films, so that is pretty cool.  I’m okay with Meryl Streep not winning awards.

Best Animated Feature Film, I really ant Big Hero 6 to win.  I still need to watch it.  I’m surprised Lego Movie didn’t get nominated, we own and have seen that one now.

Best Original Song – I want “Everything is Awesome” to win, from the Lego Movie, by Shawn Patterson, as I’ve actually heard that one.  I’m surprised “Into the Woods” didn’t make a new song to be nominated.

Best Sound Editing, we will eventually watch Hobbit : Battle of Five Armies, so that gets my vote.

Best Sound Mixing, I want to watch Unbroken too, as that story sounds super fascinating.  Ever since Scott Mosier mentioned it on SModcast, I’ve wanted to know more about it.  Except, you know, read the actual book.

The films I really get excited about are usually nominated in the People’s Choice Awards or MTV Movie Awards.  Now, those are the films worthy of watching.

New Charles Xavier School for Mutants.  Former home of the Weapon X project.  The All New X-Men are watching X23 lay into some robots in the Danger Room.  Angel agrees to go talk to X23 about Wolverine’s death.

Logan Legacy 2 Kitty 1

Later.  Kitty confronts Laura about what happened.  Laura needs to leave for a while, to sort her thoughts.  Laura isn’t sad about Wolverine’s death, she is angry.

Logan Legacy 2 Kitty 2

That top panel is a tad confusing.  We have the Original Five X-Men on the left.  On the right, I am not sure.  Beast with a moustache.  I think that is Kitty instead of Jean.  It looks like past Angel instead of long hair present day Angel.  Iceman is correct.

X23 really makes a point of pointing out Wolverine’s colors of blue and gold.  That will pay off later.

Later.  The Perdition Room, Toronto.  Laura is at a Canadian club.  Some jerk propositions Laura.  She opening admits to being a former prostitute.  Which is weird.

A gang of militants called, the Happy Clams, comes in and starts shooting up the place.  X23 starts stabbing fools.

Next, a hero called, The Chinook, shows up and starts taking foes down.  He is also known as, The Hero of Hogtown, and, The Knight Tempest.

X23 saves a male cage dancer, shr comments on liking his panties.  That is also weird.

The police show up and Chinook takes X23 to his hideout, Airstream.  He mentions Wolverine.  His real name is, Colin Ashworth Hume.  He use to work for several places – Canadian Armed Forces, Roxxon Security Administrator and Chief Administrator of Alpha Flight.  Also, former mutant due to M-Day.  He was Code Name : Windshear, essentially, he was the Great Northern Iron Man.  He has Leukemia and finished another round of chemo.

Funny how X23 thinks, Chinook, was a breed of dog.  I figured it was wind related, and it is.  He teaches her the importance of symbols.

The Happy Clam gang works for Pearl and X23 and Chinook team up to take her down.  Wind of Justice, indeed.

Thanks to Tumblr user evie-a for hosting these last images!

Logan Legacy 2 Kitty a

Logan Legacy 2 Kitty b

New Charles Xavier School for Mutants.  A few days later.  The All New X-Men are in the Danger Room.  Meanwhile, Kitty is taking a moment to mourn her departed friend.  As far as I can tell, this is the only place Kitty has been shown to mourn Wolverine’s death.  Also, the only place she is scheduled to do so.  She is not listed as a main character in any of the proper Post-Death titles.

X23 shows up and Kitty runs to the Danger Room.

Logan Legacy 2 Kitty c

Laura has found two new senses – Pride and Fashion.

No Ogun so I wonder if I am good until the final and seventh issue.

Shadow and Flame with Magic

Don’t worry, we are not changing our website name!  I was thinking about how I  tell people the website name and how I have to make sure I say “Magik with a k” and hope that they don’t just add a k at the end of magick.  Magik with a k instead of a c, might fix that problem.  If I had the money, I would just buy the two misspelling names, like I hear movie studios do for their films.

I did a Google search and didn’t see this blog on any page with “Shadow and Flame with Magic” so either we’re doing something right or wrong.

That’s right, I’m playing with Google again, ya’ll.

We’re waiting for our tenth visitors from Norway, Czech Republic and Saudi Arabia.  If you know anyone, hip them to good ol’ S&FwM!

Also, a hello to new visitors from Armenia, New Caledonia and Martinique!  Hello!

Death of Wolverine : The Logan Legacy 1

Death of Wolverine Logan Legacy 1 Hastings Variant

Writer Charles Soule

Artist Oliver Nome

Colorist John Kalisz

Letterer VC’s Joe Caramagna

So my quest to collect every appearance of Ogun is now going to start biting me in the arse.  Looks like Ogun, in his new body, is going to appear everywhere.

Croatia.  A guard is walking X23 to her cell.  In the cell is Sabretooth, who is fighting Daken.  There is also a guy in a cloak, sitting cross legged in a corner.  The guard pushes X23 through one of the walls of the cell.  She turns around and tries to get back out but the walls are electric.  You can enter it easily but not leave.  Daken knocks out Sabretooth.  Daken explains that Sabretooth was already in the cell, as was the cloaked person.

Daken comments on X23’s blue streak in her hair.  She is starting her emo phase, I suppose.  He is sincere in his comment.

The guard is now walking Lady Deathstrike into the cell.  She jumps behind him and tries to kill him.  He whispers, caterpillar, and she falls asleep.  He touches her into the cell.  Sabretooth is now coming along.  X23 wants to take Sabretooth down again.  He makes the crude comment that he is willing to do down anytime she wants.  She’s the clone of his greatest rival, it seems so out of place.  He wants to go down on Wolverine but with girl parts?  Weird but I’ve never been in such a rivalry.

Sabretooth points out the cloaked figure, he was there before Sabretooth got there.  The cloaked man stands up, removing his hood.  He calls Daken, Dark Wolverine.  It’s Professor Xavier!  No one wastes time telling him that a) he should be dead and b) that Wolverine is dead.

Now we are getting into the structure of this miniseries.  Issue one and seven are bookends, the other issues are going to be spotlight issues on what lead to each character being tossed into the sell.  X23’s story is first, she sets up issue two – which I already have preordered as Kitty Pryde was in the preview pages.  Sabretooth and Lady Deathstrike reference Death of Wolverine issue 2.  That was were we last saw them last see Logan.  Lady Deathstrike’s story is issue four.  Daken’s story is in issue five, people are selling pieces of Wolverine in auctions.  How did they break apart the adamantium?   Sabretooth’s story is in issue three.  Apparently issue three is going to deal with some regular dude who has knives taped to the back of his hand.

X23 actually has two streaks of color in her hair, blue and yellow.  Glad Sabretooth mention the colors as I didn’t notice the yellow before.

Xavier is really Mystique, his wife!  Though how she guessed at Lady Deathstrike’s story about the honor blade, is beyond me.  Sabretooth throws Xavier into the wall and now we see an unconscious Mystique.  Her story takes place in issue six.

Is, Sabretooth, not a proper word?  It keeps coming up as a misspelled word.

Lady Deathsrike also wants to know how Mystique knew about the honor sword.

Elixir is now thrown into the cell, I haven’t seen that guy in years.

Now a new man in a red mask appears.  He introduces the guard, Skel.  He doesn’t say his name as it is rather complicated.  The mysterious guy, who I will just jump ahead and call him Ogun, due to the red mask as seen below.

He reveals that Doctor Abraham Cornelius, somehow, captured those in the cell, and tampered with both their memories and their minds.  They all have trigger words.  First word puts them to sleep, second word is a suggestive word that puts them under the speaker’s voice sway, third word kills the person and the fourth word is a mystery, for the moment.

Ogun wants the stories everyone was hinting at earlier.  So that is being set up.  He steps out of the shadows –

Logan Legacy 1 Ogun 1

Ogun has a new body!

So I have issue two coming to me and pending on Ogun’s appearances in it, I may have to get the other issues in the series.

New Mutants Volume One Issue 33

New Mutants V1 33

Writer Chris Claremont

Artist Steve Leialoha

Letterer Lois Buhalis and Tom Orzechowski

Colorist Glynis Oliver

Cover Dated November 1985

Issue opens in a nightclub called, Pharaoh, in Cairo. The club belongs to Karma.  Karma spies the Sullivans, Phil and Dale.  I haven’t known Dale to be a lady’s name.  Karma sics Cannonball onto the couple.

All of the New Mutants, minus Magik, Dani and Warlock, are under Karma’s control.  Karma takes control of Dale.  She turns on her husband.  He walks away.  Karma lets go of Dale and Sam turns her down.  That marriage is over.  Interesting, with the captions, that we learn how Karma’s powers work.  Those she takes over, are aware of their actions, they just don’t realize they were mind controlled.  That’s pretty interesting.

Karma senses Storm in the audience.  Storm implies she knows who really is controlling Karma, and Karma treats Storm like an old opponent.  It isn’t said in the issue, but Karma, herself, has Shadow King inhabiting her body.  Hence, her extra body weight.

Magik and Dani show up to get Storm out of there.  Dani, via her psi-link with her, frees Wolfsbane.

Dani shows Karma her biggest fear, which is Xavier.  Another cool hint at who the true villain is.

Warlock acts as a magic carpet and flies Dani and Wolfsbane out of the club.  They regroup at Storm’s old apartment.  I like the idea of how Storm grew up a thief, her mutant powers kicked in and she made her way to Africa.

Warlock cheers up Wolfsbane.  Wolfsbane spends her next minutes trying to clean herself.  Dani admires the dress Wolfsbane was wearing.  Storm notices and Dani leaves the room, ashamed.

Storm goes outside.  Dani feels like Karma’s influence is still in her head.  The controlled New Mutants attack.  Cannonball attacks Magik, Warlock saves her.  I like Warlock interacting with members of the team, who are not Doug.

Sunspot tries to attack Dani and Magik but they trip him up.  I really like this arc, as those two gals are great together.  Magma attacks them next.  Magik teleports them away, except she drops Dani off right in front of Karma.  Then ditches her there.  Karma believes this is a peace offering act.

Magik and S’ym teleport Warlock to Limbo.  Once she is gone, that dirty S’ym starts trying to corrupt Warlock.  He is off to a great start by showing Warlock a dead Colossus (the only good kind), that is hung on the wall.

Back in RL, Dani got her own pretty dress!  Karma speaking via Dani, tells Magik that the two of them are kindred souls and leaves her alone.

We get two awesome pages of Storm fighting off the New Mutants.  Is there any better version of Storm than Powerless Storm?  I don’t think so.  The fight only ends because Magik teleports the two of them straight to Karma.  Ditching her there as well.

Issue ends with Magik feeling bad in Limbo, she has a plan but it has to work.  What isn’t great is Warlock shouting, Traitor!, at her.

X-Force Volume Four Issue 10

X-Force V4 10

Inker Craig Yeung

Colorist Jose Villarrubia

Letterer VC’s Joe Sabino

So I bought this issue due to X-Men Legacy 300’s ForgetMeNot being in it.  I really liked that character and I was worried we were never going to see him again.  Then we got him in this issue.  I decided I was going to collect every appearance of the guy.  There’s something about a character who only will ever make two appearances that I like that to say that I own every appearance of.

I like that ForgetMeNot got the cover treatment.

I forgot how great of a writer Spurrier is and I am surprised that I missed Huat’s style.

In the previous issue, X-Force has caught onto the fact that there is a villain out there who is tracking all mutants.

The Team of X-Force is – Cable, Psylocke, Marrow, Fantomex, MeMe and Doctor Nemesis.  I have also missed Doctor Nemesis!

X-Force V4 10 ForgetMeNot

SHIELD Hellicarrier Pericles.  Scuttled, Stripped, Deserted, Upcycled.  Now the X-Force HQ.  The issue opens with X-Force chasing ForgetMeNot.  He hides behind a wall and the team instantly forgets why they were running as hard as they were.  In what will be a terrific and funny running gag, they want a coffee break.

We see the back of ForgetMeNot’s head, and he has a giant scar on the back of his head.  The scar / old skin, is from how he must have gotten free of the security fly paper system that the Jean Grey School has.  X-Force is watching a video of Doctor Nemesis made of himself, instructing them to locate the mutant who you forget once you can’t see him.  Imagine the Silence from Doctor Who but its only one guy and he’s a nice guy.  I like how video Doctor Nemesis anticipated Marrow was going to speak up.  Marrow is in super rough shape.  She wasn’t in great shape when she was part of the 35th Anniversary Team along with Kitty and Kurt but now she is even farther gone.  Present Doctor Nemesis saw a note to watch this video and now they are.  They were able to figure out that they have an invisible man problem due to the usage of toilet paper.  ForgetMeNot is listening to all of this, so he hears that they are looking for him.

Video Doctor Nemesis flatters present Doctor Nemesis, I love this guy so much!  Doctor Nemesis mentions that they have watched the video six times now.

Cable gives direction to the team.  Fantomex hears breathing in the ventilation duct, which is where ForgetMeNot is.  ForgetMeNot finds a whole in the wall and hides behind it.  The team forgets what they are doing and wants a coffee break.

The cleaning robots spot ForgetMeNot, they remember him.  They tease him a little.

X-Force watches the video again, and Cable directs the team the exact same way again.  Psylocke and Cable are a pair.  They lose ForgetMeNot and instantly want a coffee break.

Fantomex finds ForgetMeNot and threatens to kill him.  ForgetMeNot runs away but bumps into Cable.  ForgetMeNot gets Cable’s gun and threatens to kill Cable but Fantomex beats him to it.

I’ve checked and ForgetMeNot isn’t in issue nine or eleven, so I’m not sure how he got onto the Hellicarrier or why he doesn’t want to be seen.

Doctor Nemesis shows up, he drunk an experimental hypercofee so now he is cosmically sober, he is the antidrunk.  But he comes off as drunk.  He still isn’t immune to ForgetMeNot’s power.

ForgetMeNot is found by the cleaning robots.  They are invisible too, so that’s how they see him and remember him.  They explain to him that everyone on X-Force is a tad crazy.  Turns out, Psylocke is having sex with Cable’s clones, not all of them, just the odd number ones.  So she’s had sex with two of the three men on the team.  If anyone is keeping track.

The cleaning machines tell ForgetMeNot where the teleporter is.  It is right next to where Doctor Nemesis is taking a nap.  ForgettMeNot sees their objectives on the screen.  Apparently the villain they are after, is tracking every mutant.  X-Force thought if they can find a mutant who is invisible to all tracking, they could use that mutant to become visible, have the villain track the mutant, have the mutant turn invisible and follow the bug back to the villain’s headquaters.

ForgetMeNot agrees to do it.  He puts the suppressor on, so now he is visible.  He cracks a joke about how, “this is the least climatic creative-use of super-powers I’ve ever been involved with.”  So the bug bites ForgetMeNot.  We see the villain has located the new mutant.  He reminds me of Arnim Zola but in a gimp costume.  So there’s that.

Doctor Nemesis puts a tracker on the bug.  ForgetMeNot takes off the suppressor but the bug is able to still track him.  So now there is a hiccup in the plan.  Fantomex knocks out Doctor Nemesis.  He also reveals he could also see ForgetMeNot, which is pretty messed up.  To make matters worst, Fantomex solves the problem they face.  The bug won’t go back home until what it is spying on is dead.  So Fantomex straight up shots dead ForgetMeNot.  Poor guy only got to make two appearances!  If he makes a third, please let me know.

Issue ends with Fantomex telling an awakening Doctor Nemesis that they are now able to locate the villain.

The really messed up thing is that the cleaning robots are just going to dispose of ForgetMeNot’s body and no one is going to remember him except for Doctor Nemesis and Xavier, whenever he returns.

Cover Dated July 1987

Thanks to these two sites for the bulk of the issue :

The issue opens with Al Milgrom explaining that this story was in the inventory as it would have been the fourth issue of Questprobe.  I did the quick research via comicbookdb, and the villain of the issue is in all three of those issues.  He found Hulk, Spider-Man, Human Torch & The Thing.  This story was printed three years after it should have.

Page One

Marvel Fanfare 33 Kitty 1

Issue opens with the X-Men along with Magneto and Lee Forrester on Magneto’s adopted island from Uncanny X-Men 150.  Magneto has agreed to take over leadership of the Xavier School, so this is after Uncanny X-Men 200.  Nice to see Lee Forrester again.

Colossus is throwing Kitty off of her raft like the jerk that he is!

Marvel Fanfare 33 Kitty 3

Kitty is just staring at Magneto and Lee as they make out every where and every time they get a chance.  They are madly in love.

Kitty decides to pull a prank of Logan, but he can smell her. Which makes sense as she’s still pretty wet, so it must be easier for him to sense her.  They have an ongoing game where Kitty owes Logan a beer and he owes her a lemonade, she doesn’t like any of those.  What’s a game if you don’t like the rewards?  Just a challenge, perhaps?

Kitty is noticing the statues that surround the island, they give her the creeps.

Marvel Fanfare 33 Kitty 4

Logan shares that he isn’t thrilled with them either, which surprises Kitty.  Logan tells her that only a fool doesn’t get scared, being scared heightens your experience – hence the entire Horror genre.

I have read this a couple times now and I still can’t imagine why he pops his claws.  It makes no sense!

Storm, who is powerless at this point, shares that she also finds the statues to be creepy.  They hint at the island’s true origins and they are no good.  Whatever happened to this island?

Marvel Fanfare 33 Kitty 5

Kitty notices that Magneto and Lee are making out again.  It is starting to be too much for the poor gal.

Kitty brings up what Storm and everyone must be thinking or remembering, that it wasn’t that long ago that Magneto almost killed both Kitty and Storm on this island.

A flash of light happens and the statues not only come alive but start attacking!

Marvel Fanfare 33 Kitty 6
Storm is the first to be attacked and we learn that the statues can turn their opponents into suspended animation.

Now Wolverine has a reason to pop his claws, and there is room to explain that they are made out of adamantium.  So weird how, as a comic fan, I know how to spell words like adamantium but real minerals, I probably would have to take a guess at.  Apocalypse is another one of those words.

Magneto, using his ranged attacks, is about to keep the statues from touching him.

Marvel Fanfare 33 Kitty 7

Kitty gets the bright idea to phase though the statues, as it might do some beneficial damage.  Instead, it just puts her in suspension.

Wolverine gets surprised attacked and is also put into suspension.

Colossus, proving how useless he is, tries to punch the statues and he also put into suspension.

Where is Nightcrawler during all of this?  He’s the only X-Man not accorded for.  Rogue shows up next but this is the last page that Kitty is on until the last few pages.

Magneto realizes he is all on his own and keeps fighting off of the statues / devices.  Magneto notices that he has quickly adopted the notion of protecting others above himself.  If only Xavier could see him now.  Once he sees that Lee has also been turned into suspended animation, he starts fighting harder.

Just then the Chief Examiner reveals himself, by coming out of a black doorway that floats in the sky.  The suspension will wear off in a few hours.  He would like Magneto, since he’s the last one standing, to pass through the doorway.  Magneto is no dummy, he knows it is a trap.

Meanwhile, the final X-Man to appear, Rogue is on her way back.  Since no one is around, she can wear a bathing suit as she doesn’t have to worry about accidentally absorbing anyone’s powers or memories.  She notices Wolverine is flying at her and grabs him as he crashes into the water.  She notices she isn’t absorbing his powers, and how odd that is.  She leaves him in the boat and flies off to the island.

While we were checking in Rogue, the Chief Examiner was taking over Magneto’s body.  So we get Magneto v Rogue!  I wonder if they talked about this at all, while they were a couple?

During the fight, Rogue breaks out of a metal prison that Magneto created and flies through the black doorway that the Chief Examiner refers to as a, scanning plate.

Rogue comes out of it and falls to her knees, as she turns green!  She has the powers of the Hulk!  Which she is reminded of the time she had She-Hulk’s powers.  The footnote implies it was Uncanny X-Men Annual 9 but I’m pretty sure it is issue 7, the Scavenger Hunt issue.  Rogue dodges another attack, that sends her to a wall, now she has Spider-Man’s powers!  Once she turns into the Human Torch, she wonders if she is going to start speaking Asgardian.  I like how she thinks about how she doesn’t know much about Spider-Man, what other powers does he have?  Just goes to show how isolated she is with the X-Men, and how isolated they are!  If you have Spider-Man’s strength plus Hulk strength, I bet she doesn’t even notice the slight increase from the Hulk’s strength.

Rogue wonders what is going on and we cut to inside the scanner plate or somewhere, this part of the book is clearly meant for those who were playing those other three games.  Magneto is in an electrical form, he meets another electrical guy, Durgan.  It just isn’t that interesting of a plot, the art and coloring is nice enough but it just feels like I’m reading a fourth installment of a series and I finally got to part that continues the story.

Rogue is still fighting Magneto’s body.

Durgan explains his backstory.  Essentially, he wanted to create a robot that would be able to take aspects of mighty warriors’ powers and skills.  Once doing so, the robot would be able to fight the invading army that is coming for his home planet.  Durgan explains to Magneto that the Chief Examiner is malfunctioning but he doesn’t know why.  There is a virus in the system and that is what switched Magneto’s consciousness for his own.   Durgan wants Magneto and him to team up, overpower the system and set right with what once went wrong.

So their plan works and things are set right.  Rogue hit the robot from the outside, while the two hit it from the inside.  It tries to make itself more complicated but that’s the jest of it.

Funny exchange between Rogue and Magneto.  She wants to know if she has to hit him again, as he is waking up.  He tells her that wouldn’t be necessary.

Rogue flies through the scanner once more and is back to her regular self.  Magneto jumps through it so that the scanner now has his powers, the last ingredient for victory!

Marvel Fanfare 33 Kitty 12

Magneto tries to reprimand the Grand Examiner that this was no accident, he will have to reexamine his system.

The X-Men start coming out of their suspended animation.  Colossus tries to show he’s a good guy by inquiring where Kitty is, as last he saw, she was thrown into the pool.  While they were in suspension, they didn’t need to breathe, so that’s why she’s okay.  That’s a relief!

Wolverine wakes up on the boat, where Rogue left him, and he tries to get back to island as fast as possible.  Turns out, he isn’t really needed.

The Grand Examiner leaves, thanking Magneto and his X-Men, which I bet Storm had to correct Magneto later about how he works for her.  Magneto is only technically the leader of the New Mutants.

The story ends with Magneto telling Rogue that he offered Durgan the X-Men’s aid but Durgan declined the assistance.

The issue ends with several pin-ups, that I am not sure who drew them.  Silver Surfer, Conan?, Doctor Doom, Doctor Strange, Iron Fist, Elektra, Punisher and Iron Man are all given a page.  Some of them have their name, others don’t.

Uncanny X-Men Volume Three Issue 27

Uncanny X-Men Volume Three 27

Writer Brian Michael Bendis

Pencils Chris Bachalo

Inks Tim Townsend, Mark Irwin, Jaime Mendoza, Victor Olazaba and Al Vey

Colors Jose Villarrubia and Rain Beredo

SHIELD Headquarters.  Rachel is trying to get through to Matthew Malloy.  Storm wonders if they should try tricks, or just talk to the new mutant.  Beast doesn’t recommend it.  Hill seconds not doing it.  Malloy is trying out the extent of his powers.

Thanks to Comixlogy for hosting this first image.

Uncanny X-Men V3 27 Magik 0

Cyclops wants to try talking to Malloy.  Beast doesn’t recommend that.  The worst thing about the two same strategies, is that both take place on the left side page.  One turn of the page, and we are back to repeating ourselves.

Wolverine is okay with Cyclops going into a situation where he may die.  Pretty messed up, that’s why you are dead and Cyclops is still alive.

I like Beast going on and on about screwed up Xavier was to Malloy.  This coming from a guy, with his fellow New Avengers / Illuminati, is killing entire alternate Earths.

Wolverine recommends that they just have Magik teleport him to space, killing him.

Cyclops and Wolverine have a brief conversation, clearly about how Cyclops killed Xavier while experiencing going Dark Phoenix.

Uncanny X-Men V3 27 Bachalo Heroes

Rachel gets the idea to protray Xavier and a horde of Avengers, to try to scare Malloy into behaving.  He sees right through it.  I just like seeing Bachalo drawing non-mutant characters.

Because now Malloy knows where Rachel is, he turns his attention to the Hellicarrier.  He drops it out of the sky.

Code Black, is what it is when a Hellicarrier crashes.

Uncanny X-Men V3 27 Cyclops Hole in Snow

Malloy teleports the X-Men back home.  Cyclops lands face first into the snow.  The students gather around him.

Uncanny X-Men 27 Kitty 0

Rachel wakes up on the yard.  Look how soft Doop looks like.  For some reason, Storm gets to wake up in her bed.  See that bottom panel? For the first time, may be ever, Kitty and two of her best friends are in the same panel Magik & Rachel.

Thanks to X-Men Supreme, as usual, for the Kitty Pryde scan!

Uncanny X-Men V3 27 Kitty 1

We get two panels with the trio!

The entire issue, with Malloy, took only two minutes to occur.  Wolverine has not appeared anywhere yet.  Who cares?

Magik even tries to soothe Rachel.

Thanks to Tumblr user, xsoldier for the Magik images.

 Uncanny X-Men V3 27 Magik 1

Cyclops doesn’t get anxiety attacks.  I get that.  Magik teleports next to Cyclops.

Uncanny X-Men V3 27 Magik 2

Now that Cyclops can think, he has a sure fire plan.

Bachalo’s art looks different this issue.  Might be due to Bachalo not coloring himself.  I sort of like it.

Uncanny X-Men V3 27 Magik 3

Issue ends with Cyclops offering to buy Malloy breakfast.  Malloy accepts, as who wouldn’t?  “The humans call me Cyclops” sounds bad arse.

Is it just me or was the six part Wrecking Crew / Harley Davidson back cover concept not very good.  I doubt it was successful.

marvel.com/roadforce

If you want to read all six pages, that page should have them.  Marvel.com is so graphic heavy that it doesn’t load good for me.

Marvel Comics Presents 33

Marvel Comics Presents 33

Writer Michael Higgins

Penciler Erik Larsen

Inker Terry Austin

Letterer Tim Harkins

Colorist Tom Vincent

Cover Dated November 1989

Having a Wild Weekend Part Three of Eight

Issue opens with Captain Britain coming out of the water, except it is alcohol.  This is heavy on Captain Britain, but Kitty shows up for a row.

Captain Britain gets attacked by two individuals wearing his old costumes, just like the cover.  The odd thing is, the costume that is a variation of his current one, makes me notice something.  What is up with his forehead designs?  Those are some weird things on his head, that I’m not sure if I ever noticed before.  Brian’s first costume, I’m not a fan.

Marvel Comics Presents 33 Kitty

Kitty gets into a computer center.  The set-up is more sophisticated than she was anticipating.

The Captains Britain fight is interrupted when a young lady appears.  We begin the Beverly Hillbillies parody.

Captain Britain, next, is punched onto the Yellow Brick Road from the Wizard of Oz. Captain Britain follows it and the story ends with him entering a Cheers parody.  As the final panel shows us that he is in a virtual reality simulator, run by the Looney Tunes characters.  I mean, not the Looney Tunes characters.

Other stories are :

Black Panther, Part 21 of 25

Coldblood, Part 8 of 10

Namor the Sub-Mariner in a one off story
