All New X-Men 5

Writer Brian Michael Bendis

Penciler Stuart Immonen

Inkers Wade Von Grawbadger with Craig Yeung

Colorist Marte Gracia with Jason Keith

Letterer VC’s Cory Petit

Cover Dated March 2013

This issue is pretty much remembered for two things.  The awesome Jean Grey memory flash (that was repeated with Ultimate Spider-Man in All New X-Men 32) and Beast’s latest form.

Issue opens inside Beast’s mindscape.  He is in his classic 70s / 80s Ape Beast look.  He has dressed Jean in his favorite outfit of her’s, the also classic green miniskirt.  So weird that he dressed the seventeen year old version of one of his best friends in a clearly adult outfit.  Right?

Hank is in there, as well, trying to save his present day self.

There is an ad for Iron Man AvX Aftermath, The Godkiller, as he has to pay for splitting the Phoenix Force into five pieces.  As far as I know, he doesn’t get much of a punishment.

All New X-Men 5 Kitty Operating Table

Hank is working on Beast (to try to keep it all straight!).  Beast is ready to die and I can only imagine Hank does not want to witness his own death.

Within Beast’s mindscape, Beast is telling his young self and Jean, that he didn’t bring the Original Five to the present to save himself.

I like how the background of Beast’s mind is all math formulas.  Hank notices that something isn’t right and Beast recognizes it as well.

Back in RL, Hank tells everyone to leave – except for Jean.  Kitty states she will stick around as well.  Hank tells her she won’t.  As the oldest of the Original Five, by maybe a year, he probably thinks Kitty isn’t much older than he is but he will quickly learn how much more authority she has over him than he thinks.

University of Texas.  This is Benjamin’s second appearance.  He has been kicked out of school and his parents will not return his calls.  Cyclops and his Uncanny X-Men team showed up last issue and made a real mess of things for Benjamin.

Cyclops is outside waiting for him.  He wants to recruit him.  Odd how Benjamin is taller than Cyclops, I usually think of him as a tall man.  Probably due to how much he stands next to Wolverine.

Cyclops tells Benjamin that he doesn’t quite know what his mutant powers are.  It has elements of shape shifting but also adaptation of environment.

Cyclops has Magik, not shown, teleport the two of them to his new school.  The New Charles Xavier School for the Gifted.

All New X-Men 5 Kitty 1

The Jean Grey School for Higher Learning.

Kitty reenters the lab.  Hank tries to tell her to leave, he’s quite the rude little man with big hands and feet.  Kitty quickly tells him that he isn’t the boss of her.  She further explains that she is very good friends with his future self, so he should change his tone.  She also tells him that she is the Headmistress, so that should tell him that she’s the main voice of authority around these parts.

Since Kitty isn’t leaving, he puts her to work.

Kitty informs him that his future self has a tendency to do crazy things when it comes to experiments on himself.

Hank must be trying to figure out what Kitty’s relationship is with his future self as he can’t figure it out.  He lets her know that he is, without a doubt, more invested in saving himself than anyone else could be.

All New X-Men 5 Kitty Beast Jean Talk

Jean, while in Beast’s mindscape, confronts him about how he really shouldn’t have brought them from the past to the present.  Beast wanted to do something with his final act.  Either Scott would see his future self and take steps to never let that happen or Cyclops will see his past self and be shame faced into changing his ways.  The first half of that doesn’t make any sense as Beast is under the impression, once they go back in time, that Xavier is going to just mindwipe them and they will follow the course they were always going to take.

Beast states he doesn’t believe in Heaven or Hell, which is silly now, as Nightcrawler has come back from Heaven and Wolverine has escaped from Hell but this issue came before both of those situations.

Poor Jean, asks how she dies and Beast point blank responds with – which time.  Which is awesome that he gets to say that but poor Jean’s mind most be doing flips or cracking in half.  I’m not sure, I don’t know how the female mind works. “We live a colorful and varied life” may be the best response to Jean’s follow up question.

Jean reads Beast’s mind.

All New X-Men 5 Jean life

Did they ever make this a poster?  They really should have!  Immomen, von Grawbadger and Gracia killed this double page splash!  Which is why I’m revealing this issue now as this is the first place this trick was performed before it was lovingly repeated in All New X-Men 32.  I sort of want to see more of this as it is awesome.

It must be so weird to see Jean’s life through Beast’s mind.  I know some people pointed out that Beast wasn’t there for all of this, so some of these images are what Beast’s mind’s eye created once a third party told him about it.  Which isn’t weird, at all.  At all.

Events I recognize –

Original Five Jean

Jean and Scott’s Wedding

Jean over Madelyn’s dead body at the end of Inferno

Jean versus Onslaught

Jean and Cyclops during X-Factor’s days

Phoenix Jean coming out of Jamaica Bay

Phoenix Jean becoming the Black Queen of the Hellfire Club

Jean and Cable as X-Men after Cyclops’ Death

Jean and Wolverine kissing

Jean finding Cyclops-Apocalypse after searching for him

Jean Grey in her Morrison outfit

Dark Phoenix

Jean (Red) and Scott (Slim) raising Cable in the future

Xorn-NotMagneto killing her for the latest time

That shot of Jean on her knees just straight up being overwhelmed with all of that, is heartbreaking.  I would just take a nap and hope I didn’t wake up anytime soon.  I would be pestering Beast every minute of every hour with follow up questions.

All New X-Men 5 Kitty Jean No

Jean, super understandably, freaks the heck out!

Kitty is confused as Jean starts flailing about.

Hank asks Kitty to help Jean get some air.  Somehow, Jean – through Beast’s memory – felt her future self die.  Not sure how that works but if that’s how she feels.

This is the first shot, of Kitty and Jean leaving, that I start recognizing how Kitty really needs a new costume.  Her (still) current one is a homage to the Original X-Men / New Mutants training uniforms but it isn’t different enough.  Plus, the Original Five really need new uniforms as well.  Are they wearing unitards with little boy shorts over them?  How did that look last as long as it did?  I get its a Kirby design and no one really wants to change that but enough time passes and they eventually get new ones that ‘Jean’ designed.

Kitty’s is definitely a more feminine version of that uniform with how her lines compliment her body.

All New X-Men 5 Kitty 2

Poor Scott, it must be hard to just take all of the staring and I’m sure Wolverine has been shooting mind daggers at him the entire time.  Also, his claim that he will never kill Xavier is pretty hallow, as clearly he goes back to his time and does everything the same.

Wolverine calling him, Slim, seems way out of place.  Wolverine brags about all of the times he could have killed Cyclops.  As if he ever needed to before Xavier’s death.  Maybe to get Cyclops off the board so he can finally make a move on Jean, but that’s about it.

Wolverine is under the impression that if he kills Scott right now, Xavier would be standing to the left of them.  I like how Scott’s reaction is just surprise that Xavier would be standing.  Xavier will gain and lose and regain the ability to walk, so often!

Wolverine wants to start taking votes if he should kill Scott right now.  Who would raise their hand to that?  Teen Scott is not responsible at all for his present day’s actions.

A voice tells Wolverine to stop.  That bottom right panel is a great one-two shot from the previous image of how much different Kitty’s costume is to Jean’s.  It has should pads / flaps (what are those?) and a fancy circular belt.

All New X-Men 5 Kitty NuBeast Hug

The Era of Cat Beast is over!  Now Gorilla Beast is amongst us!  His 70s/80s look is typically referred to as his Ape Beast or his original blue form but I like ‘Gorilla Beast’ for this latest look.

The look and later hug by Kitty to Beast is so sweet.  I like how Beast and Kitty, both the brains of their respected original teams, have a nice familiar bond.

Storm tries to mussle into Kitty and Beast’s hug, for shame!

I like Young Bobby, Bendis really does walk a nice line with Bobby.  He usually gets one great line or two good lines and goes back to the background.  “You know you are still blue, right?”  That’s funny.

Now that he’s in good shape again, Beast wants the Original Five to go back to their timeline.  They were not meant to stick around this long.  Which is weird.  So he just wanted to grab the Original Five, show Cyclops his younger self, and then cart them right back.  Why grab all five of them then?  There’s a What If that no one would be that interested in seeing.  Just grab Cyclops and the next 27 issues happen in a completely different way.

All New X-Men 5 Kitty Jean wants to stay

Jean starts her quick process of becoming the leader of the Original Five.  She doesn’t want to go back to her time.  She wants to set right the wrongs of today.  If they go back, Xavier is going to read their minds (as he routinely does, that sicko) and wipe their minds.  But then wouldn’t he still retain the memories of what he saw?  So he would know to not let the X-Men go tot he moon and let Iron Man split the Phoenix Force into the Phoenix Five and also, and this is key, don’t let Cyclops kill him when he goes Dark Phoenix.  There’s another What If or an X-Men Forever style series.

Also, Jean doesn’t want to go back and end up being tortured and end in disaster.  Angel’s ears perk up at the word, torture.

Jean is willing to go back but only after the present is fixed.

Jean puts it to a vote.  Only Angel doesn’t want to stay.  Poor guy, he will eventually bed Wolverine’s cloned daughter but that is still a year away.

All New X-Men 5 Kitty Professor K

I love Kitty Pryde stepping up to be their new advisor.  The era of Professor K begins!  It is such an obvious next step for her and I love seeing any real progression of Kitty’s character.  She really is the future of the X-Men.  Forget Xavier’s path, Magneto’s path or even Cyclops’ path – Kitty is the true leader of Mutant Kind.  She just needs these other fools to get out of her way.

Kitty tells Hank to shut up as he wants to know what they are going to cal her – Professor Kitty or Professor K.  Not sure why Professor P or Professor Pryde isn’t in the running but they do settle on Professor K.  Probably as she doesn’t want to have her codename initials to be, PP, she thinks ahead.

Poor Angel starts noticing how his present day self is not accounted for.  He has no idea the horrors that happens to him.  He is made into Archangel, is turn Blue, goes back to normal, gets the ability to switch between Angel/Archangel, Psylocke kills him, he is reset back to zero and is a clean slate – running around bringing dogs back to life.  It is complicated.

Issue ends with Scott wanting to talk to Jean and her telling him to stay the hell away from her.  Pretty harsh Jean!

My all time favorite Christmas song is Grant Goodeve’s The Night Time Stood Still from the Christmas in the Northwest 8 album.  I wish YouTube would get someone to put the video up.

http://grooveshark.com/s/The+Night+Time+Stood+Still/3suzrG?src=5

Such a good song!

I heard Dan Fogelberg’s Same Old Lang Syne for the first time the other week and now I’m obsess with it.

Thanks to YouTuber KOUJI328G for hosting the video!

Since the song references (and ends with an instrumental version of) Auld Lang Syne, I included that video.

Thanks to YouTuber saminnyc for hosting the video!

My favorite religious Christmas song is Mark Lowry’s Mary, Did You Know

Thanks to YouTuber GaitherVEVO for hosting the video!

I really liked Lowry’s parody songs when I was a kid, not that I really knew that they were parody at the time.

My favorite Pop Christmas song would have to be, without a doubt, Last Chrstimas – Originally by Wham

Thanks to WhamVEVO for hosting the video.

But I’m a sucker for any good cover of it.

https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=last+christmas

I have a few favorite complete albums.

Of course, the legend that is Trans-Siberian Orchestra.  I was lucky enough to buy the boxset of their three albmus – Christmas Eve and Other Stories / The Christmas Attic / Lost Christmas Eve, which came with a DVD.  I love this collection so much.

TSO also has this amazing Rock Opera CD, Beethoven’s Last Night, that I wish they were release a DVD for.

TSO Christmas Trilogy

Christmas Eve and Other Stories

Thanks to YouTuber TovarishchS for hosting the full album!  Not sure how long that will last.

The Christmas Attic

Thanks to YouTuber ConCon TheButterfly

Lost Christmas Eve

Thanks to YouTuber Katie Duvall

Jewel has a terrific Christmas album, Joy : A Holiday Collection

Jewel Joy

YouTuber Jewel – Topic has a Playlist with all of her songs.

I adore Jewel, she went Country and I sort of lost track of her but there were years when I was a hardcore fan of hers.

Kelly Clarkson’s Wrapped in Red is another great Christmas album.

Kelly Clarkson Wrapped in Red

Thanks to YouTuber TheChrstimasLyrics3 for hosting the full album

I’m also a huge Kelly Clarkson fan.  I suppose it makes sense to like an artist and naturally like their holiday CD too.

Michael Buble’s Chrstimas album, and specials, are quite excellent as well!

Michael Buble Christmas

YouTuber Shadee Henareh has created a playlist for all of Buble’s Christmas songs.  I’m also a huge Buble fan too.  But who isn’t and still has a soul? I ask you.

. . .

My wife has hipped me to Alabama’s Thistlehair The Christmas Bear song which is pretty fun.

Thanks to YouTuber ItalianCottager for hosting the video.

My in-laws are all big fans of Robert Earl Keen’s Merry Christmas from the Family

Thanks to YouTuber The Outdoor Chautauqua for hosting the video.

Another song my wife becomes obsessed with this time of year is Jason Castro’s I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day

Thanks to YouTuber memillieisme for hosting the video.

We were big American Idol fans for a few years.  That’s how I discovered Michael Buble, when he filled in for Tony Bennett.  Which is pretty cool that I know when I became a fan of Buble, April 4, 2007.

Her favorite classic Christmas song is, Winter Wonderland.  Which seemed like new information when I asked her.

She didn’t have a favorite version, so I included the Buble one.

Thanks to YouTuber zwoooooooooosh for hosting the video.

This made me think of what my favorite classic Christmas song is, it might have to be, O Little Town of Bethlehem

Thanks to YouTuber Gilda Tabarez for hosting the video.

I do try to recite “We Three Kings” from time to time but I never know the lyrics.

Thanks to YouTuber king mojo for the lyric video!

. . .

My mother’s favorite Christmas song is, Little Drummer Boy

Thanks to YouTuber PTXofficial for hosting the Pentatonix video.

. . .

Christmas songs I am not a fan of?  Pretty much any parody of 12 Days of Christmas.

. . .

EDIT ON DECEMBER 22, 2014 –

Another song I keep hearing on the radio is Stephanie Davis’ The Gift

Which apparently she wrote but didn’t release herself.  That I’m aware of as YouTube only has cover versions.

Thanks to Britt Gillis for both hosting her cover and doing such a beautiful version of it.

http://www.stephaniedavis.net/the_gift.htm

There is the link to Stephanie Davis’ website and the lyrics to the song.  It is a nice story.  She’s also lives in Montana.

Not sure where this is from.  Maybe from the Astonishing X-Men Sketchbook?  I’m not sure.  I should pull that out and look but Kitty being there makes me think that it isn’t from that.  It isn’t.

Marvel Holiday Special 2006

Marvel Holiday Special 2006

Cover Dated February 2007

Apparently I only own this for the collection of previous Holiday Specials that include 1996’s cover.  It is nice to have them all in one place but I probably shouldn’t keep it.  But I am, so I clearly have a problem.

There are actual stories in this comic – AIM, Fing Fang Foom and Annihilus / Thing – all have sections.

There are also cut out ornaments in the comic.

Also, a pretty cool and updated Santa Claus Handbook Profile.

Post 525!

AXIS 7

Posted by John Klein III on December 4, 2014
Posted in: Review. Tagged: 2014, AXIS, Eliopoulos, Kubert - Adam, New World Disorder, Remender. Leave a comment

AXIS 7

Writer Rick Remender

Artist Adam Kubert

Colorists Edgar Delgado & Jessus Aburtov

Letterer Chris Eliopoulos

New World Disorder : Chapter One

AXIS 7 Cast List

Kitty made the cast list!  So we know we are in for a good time!  Except that she only shows up on the one page, but that’s enough for us here.

So we have the fourth issue and now we jump to this seventh issue, also this is the last issue of AXIS that I own as Kitty doesn’t appear in the final two installments.

Apparently since the last issue I read, the inverted Avengers have taken regular heroes hostage.  The X-Men have decided to create a Gene Bomb.  Scarlet Witch tries to be useful by attacking Doctor Doom but her father and brother stop her.  Once again, Polaris is not involved with her silly family affairs.

The first page still has that silly AXIS banner on the top and bottom of the pages.

Apocalypse Ship.  Wasp is a prisoner of the X-Men.  Havok recalls to his better and older brother, Cyclops, the time he was married to Wasp.  Havok would like to spare her from the Gene Bomb but all humans have to die.  Nightcrawler interrupts brother time and tells them to get outside.

AXIS 7 Kitty 0 AXIS 7 Kitty 1

So the Inverted Villains are going by, Astonishing Avengers – so add them to the long list of Avengers members.

I like Rogue wanting to beat up Avengers, good for her!  Maybe now she can appear in X-Titles again.

Shadowcat’s stomach must have been in slips, having to be held by Colossus.

Zenpool has some fun narration going on in these first few pages.  He and Evan, who is now full grown Apocalypse, have a history from Remender’s Uncanny X-Force days.  The funnest running gag is Zenpool calling Spider-Man his sidekick.  Spider-Man takes offense as his ego is the size of his decision to make a deal with the devil and rewrite time so that he was never married to his wife and so his elderly aunt can live for another 15 years, as an old woman.

Another fun aspect is that Zenpool makes comments and Apocalypse actually responds to a few of them, instead of just ignoring it.

The Zenpool / Spider-Man handicap match against Apocalypse breaks through a wall and is outside.  We see that Carnage is fighting Rogue.  Nightcrawler is fighting Kid Loki.  Nightcrawler moves on to start fighting Spider-Man.  Carnage switches opponents and starts fighting Nightcrawler, saving Spider-Man.  Spider-Man is not comfortable with Carnage’s new outlook on life.

Sabretooth, now dressed in Wolverine’s now classic brown and tan costume, is mad at Cyclops as that is simply what Wolverines do to Cyclops.  It is ridiculous.

Colossus is fighting Absorbing Man.  Shadowcat, is nowhere to be seen.

Latveria.  Doctor Doom is quasi-responsible for Scarlet Witch’s actions during House of M, including the whole genocide attempt of the mutant race.  So she is upset that Magneto and Quicksilver are preventing her from killing him.  She gets so mad that she casts a spell to bring down all of her bloodline.  Surprisingly, only Quicksilver goes down, Magneto is still standing.  So now we know that he is not the father of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, which we learned way back in Avengers 186 / Uncanny X-Men 125 and the twins learned in Vision and Scarlet Witch 4.  Which was in February 1983 for the twins and for us, October / September 1979.  Avengers 186 reveals their mother is Magda and in Uncanny X-Men 125, we see that Magneto fathered a daughter with Magda and possibly two more.

So this sort of blew up the Internet, as people now think the Avengers film forced Marvel to make the twins Inhumans instead of Mutants, or at least, not mutants.  Though, hasn’t there been 32 years of evidence that show that Magneto is clearly their father?

During all of this, Doctor Doom teleports away.

San Francisco.  Superior Iron Man has invited FalCap to a meeting that also has Thor, Kluh, Luke Cage and Medusa.  They want to kill both the X-Men and all of the heroes.

Apocalypse finally tires of Zenpool’s mouth and starts wailing on him.

There is an ad for Amazing Spider-Man 11 that has Amazing vs Superior, which is fun to see the logos used that way.

On the final page, Apocalypse is holding Zenpool’s head as his body lays on the ground.  He is surrounded by the X-Men, minus one.  Which, really, why even have Kitty Pryde in the issue – just to forget all about her?  But that’s Kitty’s history with these events.

Issue ends with the Gene Bomb counting down to zero.  Don’t worry, it doesn’t go off.

The other tie-ins to this issue are – Amazing X-Men 14, Avengers World 16, AXIS Revolutions 3 & 4 (we’ll be reviewing issue three in a few days), AXIS : Carnage 3, AXIS : Hobgoblin 3, Captain America & the Mighty Avengers 3, Deadpool 39, Loki : Agent of Asgard 9, Nova 25 and Superior Iron Man 3.

Wishlist – Uncanny X-Men 141 Magnet

My wife likes magnets, so I imagine the hardest part would be to just find it in a store and purchase it.  I wonder if this is what the magnet really likes.

Uncanny X-Men 141 Magnet

Fun fact, whenever I typed ‘magnet’ above (including just then), I typed “magneto”

Uncanny X-Men 139

Uncanny X-Men 139

Writer Chris Claremont

Plot – Penciler John Byrne

Inker Terry Austin

Letterer Tom Orzechowski

Colorist Glynis Wein

Cover Dated November 1980

The issue that gave the world – Welcome the X-Men, I hope you survive the experience!  Such a great line!

This comic has a special place in history, as it is the first appearance of many a person and concept.  Stevie Hunter and Heather Hudson make their first appearance here.  Also, on the Wolverine side of things, he wears his Brown & Tan costume for the first time, and we learn his name is Logan for the first time.

Let’s see how and when we come across them and various other events!

Issue opens with Angel in the Danger Room.

Uncanny X-Men 139 Kitty Legs

Turns out, all of the X-Men (minus one), are in the Danger Room.  Angel has just rejoined the team and has no fighting experience with the team.  Hence, this latest session.  Poor Angel is quite clumsy.  He bumps into Kurt.

Storm and Wolverine notice this as stupid Colossus is too busy talking to the robot to notice anything else.

We see their other latest recruit’s legs as we also see Xavier in the Control Room.

 Uncanny X-Men 139 Kitty 1

That new recruit is, of course, Kitty Pryde!  She showed up on the last page of issue 138 and now is seeing the Danger Room for the first time.

Kurt is falling towards some flames and Wolverine quickly cuts a hole in the wall and puts if over the fire.  Kurt shakes it off and teleports away.

Kurt teleports right into Colossus’ path.  Storm saves him.  Storm makes a few quips, which I forget that she is funny.  It seems so out of place now.

Uncanny X-Men 139 Kitty Safe

Wolverine refers to Xavier as Charley.  Which prompts Xavier to enter the room and gives Wolverine a slew of options to call him by.  Instead of taking any of those under concentration, he goes with Chuck.  Oh that Wolverine, he’s such a bad boy.

Kitty is uneasy about entering the Danger Room.

Angel apologizes for being so reckless.  He tells Xavier it shouldn’t happen again.

Uncanny X-Men 139 Kitty 1

Wolverine tells Angel that he’s been a solo hero for too long and it takes a while to get back into the routine of a team environment.

Kurt comes back with some lemonade.  Wolverine tells him, that he isn’t much of a lemonade man.  Kurt, proving he’s such a good friend, tells Wolverine that is why he brought a beer as well.  What a good guy!

Poor Kitty, she isn’t use to Kurt and his ways yet and flinches whenever he is near by.  She knows it is wrong but she is working on it.

Kurt notices it but he also knows that he is a tad different and he will warm up to her in time.

Colossus is so horrible that the caption box incorrectly states that he is Cyclops.  If only!  Cyclops left the team last issue as Jean died on the Moon but he doesn’t know that she is really at the bottom of Jamaica Bay and only the Phoenix, temporarily, died on the Moon.  shhhh, don’t tell him!

Kitty realizes that the Danger Room is appropriately named and is worried about getting work.  Xavier tells her that she won’t officially train it until he has created a program for her.  It will take one full issue before her official first session in Uncanny X-Men 141.

Uncanny X-Men 139 Kitty Pryde TAB

Xavier takes this opportunity to mention how Kitty needs a codename to protect her secret identity.  He offers, Ariel, she doesn’t care for it.  Storm offers, Sprite, and Kitty likes it, as long as no one tries to pull her Tab.

Xavier recognizes it for a horrible joke a 13 and a half year old will make up.  He offers a toast to welcome their newest member to the team, Sprite!  She will go by Ariel in the God Loves, Man Kills story.

Kurt takes this pause to ask Wolverine why he has a new costume.  Wolverine’s response of, Why not? is so classic and awesome!  Claremont / Byrne are slowly rolling out the legend that Wolverine will become.

Wolverine wants a moment with Xavier.  He’s worried that Alpha Flight might come looking for him and he wants to make sure there isn’t any active warrants out for him.  Xavier is fine with him taking the time off but if he is to run into some problems, he should take someone with him.  Wolverine asks if Nightcrawler wants to tag along and Kurt does!

Uncanny X-Men 139 Kitty 2

Xavier wants Kitty to go with Storm.

Later in Salem Center, Storm and Kitty are heading towards a Dance Studio.  Kitty is so excited, she thought she would have to give up her dancing ways but Xavier – the nice guy he likes to think he is – has set up Kitty with some dance classes.

The door to the studio is locked, so Kitty – after checking both ways – phases through the door.  The door is being blocked by all of the supplies from the closet spilling into the hallway.

Uncanny X-Men 139 Kitty 3

Kitty clears the path and lets Storm in.  I like how these two are already the fastest of friends – age difference and all!  Good thing that Jean Grey died so that she wasn’t in the way of Kitty and Storm’s friendship – as we saw in that What If Volume One Issue 27.

Kitty explains why her passion for dance is so fierce!  She couldn’t really relate, just like Blossom, to other kids her age as she is a genius.  But with dancing, it was a shared skill and she got to interact with other ladies of her age.  Though none of those other dancers must have been good friends with Kitty as they are never referenced or mention outside of this vague statement Kitty makes.

Another historic moment!  The first appearance of Stevie Hunter!

Storm is almost immediately jealous of Stevie.  Maybe not jealous but is cautious around her.

Kitty remembers Stevie from the time Stevie danced in Chicago.  We will learn later that Stevie can no longer dance on a professional level.

From here, Wolverine and Kurt take over the issue with a back door pilot – of sorts – for Alpha Flight.

We get the first appearance of Heather Hudson, that I didn’t even know I owned!  How crazy is that!

Heather comes home. She knows someone is in her house, with broom in hand, she barges into the kitchen.  This scares Kurt but Wolverine keeps drinking his beer.

Heather is surprised to see Wolverine, Logan as she calls him.

Kurt asks about the name and Logan is so cool in his response.  Did no one ask what his name was?  I can only imagine in that long plane ride from Upstate New York to wherever Krakoa was, everyone would have shared such information.

Logan introduces Heather to Kurt.

Meanwhile, Guardian (Heather’s husband) joins Shaman and Snowbird at a cabin.  The other half of the team – Aurora, Northstar and Sasquatch – are appearing in Machine Man 19.

Shaman detects intruders.  Wolverine and Nightcrawler appear.  Guardian and Wolverine still don’t get along.  Snowbird, in a form of a,bear, spooks Nightcrawler.  The way Kurt climbs on top of Wolverine is so funny!

Alpha Flight and the two X-Men are now looking for . . . The Wendigo!  We are treated to a quick flashback to Hulk 162, 180 & 181.

Wolverine wants their gear and Kurt goes to get it.  The issue ends with Kurt being ambushed by Wendigo!

Kitty has come home, Deerfield, Illinois, to spend Hanukkah with her mother.  Which may be the last we’ve heard of Teresa Pryde.

Kitty finally reveals she is a mutant, grabs the locket and all ends well.

There are also stories with Spider-Man and J. Jonah Jameson, Silver Surfer, Two-Gun Kid and the X-Men (Wolverine, Cyclops, Jean, Cable, Storm and Bishop).  Scott gave his son a baseball glove, and gets a big ol’ hug in return.  It is a very nice moment.

Wishlist – Comics in Focus Chris Claremont Documentary

Comics in Focus Claremont Documentary

http://sequart.org/movies/4/comics-in-focus-chris-claremonts-x-men/

For $14.99 and I doubt it will ever air on Netflix or anything, but I am all for supporting any Comic related documentaries and this is the Master of all that is X-Men.  I’m hoping he gets to at least talk about Kitty Pryde, Lockheed, Magik and the Paul Smith run.  If not, it would still be worth the purchase.

This is by the same team that made the Image Revolution documentary that also sounds pretty cool, just conceptually.
