X-Men : The Wedding Album

X-Men Wedding Album

Cover Dated March 1994

So there is a story with Jubilee and Jean as they go through her old clothes.  Then Jubilee finds a diary of Jean’s and just reads it like the little snot that she is.

There is also a page where via Jean telling her mother, we learn that Nicole Miller – designed her dress.  Just like how Willi Smith designed Mary Jane Parker’s wedding dress.  Both of them being real life fashion icons.  Now that I think of it, Storm’s wedding dress was designed by a real fashion designer – Shawn Dudley, the Emmy-Award Winning Costume Designer for TV’s Guiding Light.  Good for Marvel, getting all these talents for creating their icons’ wedding dresses.  These are meant to be important dates and deserve A-List talent.

What I own this oversized book for is the Kitty Pryde “Cut to the Video” where she records a bunch of messages from people.  Which I’ve never been to a reception where people did this so I’ve been under the impression it only happens on television and in movies.

Writers Scott Lobdell and Fabian Nicieza

Pencilers Ken Lashley, Tom Lyle, Ron Garney and Jae Lee

Inkers Scott Hanna, Jae Lee, Andrew Pepoy, Bill Sienkiewicz and Jae Lee

Colorists Pat Garrahy and Chris Matthys

It isn’t easy to tell who provides the art for which sections (besides Jae Lee and Bill SIenkiewicz) but thanks to our friends at comicbookdb.com, we have the above credited talents.

So as Kitty is the person before the camera, the DP, I’m only interested in her first two pages.

Her message for the newlyweds is :

Hi Mr. and Mrs.!  In lieu of a real gift — as in one that costs money which I don’t have — this video album is my present to you.  Enjoy!  Ooooops — I almost forgot : CONGRATULATIONS!

X-Men Wedding Album Kitty Pryde

Jean and Scott were married from 1994 to 2001/2004 when Grant Morrison’s run lasted.  So seven years before GMo got his hands on them.  So if I can make it to year eight, I will feel like I accomplished something.

. . .

I know I said this earlier in the week but since today is our actual anniversary day, I just wanted to give my wife a special shout out.  Thank you so much for the best six years of my life!  I couldn’t be happier than how you’ve made me.

What If Volume Two Issue 60

What If V2 60

Writer Kurt Busiek

Penciller Ron Randall

Inker Art Nicholas

Colorist Bob Sharen

Letterer Janice Chiang

Cover Dated April 1994

Three Stories In One!

Split from X-Men Volume One Issue 30

So Uatu, the Watcher, is watching (?) the wedding.  This is when we see Kitty Pryde and Nightcrawler.

Uatu wonders about three different alternate timelines :

What if Scott Summers and Jean Grey had married earlier?
What if Scott Summers and Jean Grey had never fallen in love at all?
What if Phoenix had fallen for Wolverine?

Kitty doesn’t show up in any of these, just the framing device.  But it is a What If so none of them end well.  Good thing they got married when they did!

Kitty tells Storm that is she excited about filming every part of the ceremony.  In the X-Men : Wedding Album, that we are reviewing tomorrow, we see that Kitty does just that.  Now, that’s good synergy!

What If 60 Kitty Pryde

One of the few What Ifs that deals with the actual Proper Marvel Universe and it really works.  Of course, it is written by Kurt Busiek, one of my all time favorite comic book writers, so that makes sense.  I wish I had more opportunities to keep more of his comics in my collection but he’s always been more of an Avengers guy than an X-Men gentleman.

Uatu, the Watcher, wonders at the end what the future holds for the newlyweds.  Happiness or struggle?  Reward or suffering?  Mostly happiness and a little suffering from time to time.  Jean sees Scott die via merging with Apocalypse … he gets better and Scott sees Xorn/Magneto kill Jean, which she remains dead from – and he gets to bounce from her to Emma Frost, so I guess he wins in the end.  Their marriage was already falling apart by that time though.

X-Treme X-Men 19

X-Treme X-Men 19

Writer Chris Claremont

Artist Salvador Larroca

Colors Liquid!

Letterer Tom Orzechowski

Cover Dated December 2002

Happy Thanksgiving Everybody!  This is our second and final comic that helps us celebrate good ol’ Turkey day!

Actually this is a little embarrassing.  I’ve been saying for years (at least two!) how this has been a Thanksgiving Day comic.  Turns out, when I was reading this, that Jean and Beast make a cake and they, other guests and the X-Treme X-Men team, all sit at a long table and enjoy each others company and cake.  In my mind, I must have thought it was a turkey and not cake – oops!

But the philosophy here at S&FwM has always been – now – that if I touch a back issue, I might as well review that issue.  I just wish someone had pulled me aside and told me that Power Pack 19 was the only Thanksgiving Comic I own.  That would have been nice!

You can follow along thanks to this website :

http://amocat.net/kiotr/KIOTR-Gallery/X-Treme-X-Men-19

Onto the issue!

So in the previous issue, the X-Treme X-Men defeated Khan and his army, so this is a nice breather issue that Claremont and the X-Men are famous for – and I love.

I do own issue 18 so I will review that issue one of these days.

So the X-Treme X-Men are – Bishop, Gabmit, Lifeguard, Rogue, Sage, Storm and Thunderbird.

Their guests are – Beast, Jean, Kitty, Nightcrawler and Wolverine.

They are in New Orleans as Rogue’s foster mother (her original one, not Mystique) has left Rogue a very nice mansion.  I’m not sure what ever happens to this property, does she still have it?  Has it been destroyed?  I do like how her foster mother kept her in the will and before she died, amassed a nice fortune.  Rogue got lucky there!  As far as I know, once Rogue ran away and joined Mystique’s Brotherhood of Mutants, she stopped communicating with her original foster parents.  Like all good mutants who join the X-Men (and apparently evil mutant groups, as well!) do.

X-Treme X-Men 19 Kitty 1

Jean, wearing a tube top that she would never wear!  Of all of the appearances I’ve ever read of Jean, she is ultra conservative.  Larroca must be thinking of Phoenix, who was the more adventurous dresser.  Its okay by me though.  She’s away from Scott, so why not let the lady dress however she pleased.

Beast is wearing a chef’s outfit.

X-Treme X-Men 19 Kitty 2

They made a cake and everyone gathers around the table.  Beast brags that they made the cake and Jean brags about her telepathic abilities lets her know how big of a slice everyone wants and her telekensis powers make it so that she can serve the pieces of cake without making a mess.  Or touching the cake and leaving fingerprints in everyone’s slices.

Bishop sees Sage and invites her into the celebration.  She politely turns him down and keeps walking into the house.

Beast applauds Rogue for killing Vargas – the villain who killed Psylocke way back in issue 2.  Which was a bit of a controversy back in the day as Claremont was going to do one of those classic, kill the hero but bring her back a few issues later – but was told by Quesada that dead means dead (he was trying a new policy).  The controversy comes from how Claremont was told no but Joss Whedon was told yes, when he asked to bring back Colossus.  Claremont is the much bigger name in X-Men but Whedon was the fancy outsider and was being given what he wanted.

Rogue isn’t happy with Beast.  She may have killed him but the price was pretty high.  Gambit was seriously injured (he got better) but both Gambit and her were left powerless after the fight.

Then we get to one of my favorite moments, of many, where Kurt is bragging to Logan about how Kitty is in college now.  I like how Kurt is genuinely happy that his good and dear friend is making a better life for her.

It must be sort of like a Good Will Hunting type of moment – where they know that they have a world glass genius amongst them, who is also quite young – and she is wasting her life away with fighting mutant threats and threats to mutants (they are different!).  She should be out there, getting a degree in computer science and making a life for herself.  Which is what she is doing now but it doesn’t last.

Kitty doesn’t like this attention, as Wolverine is joking about how he thought he will never live to see the day.  Which is very nice foreshadowing on Claremont’s part as Kitty is going to blow up on Jean later in the issue but Claremont sets up Kitty’s thought process right now.  Her father died in the Sentinel attack on Genosha that Cassandra Nova (Xavier’s twin sister) orchestrated.  Not only did her father die in the attack, Kitty found the footage and we learn in Mekanix, that he was lucky (?) enough to find a camera, know his daughter will seek out the footage and was able to mouth that he loves her, then die on camera.  It is pretty heart breaking.

Logan also comments on the fact that Kitty is working in a saloon.  This is all a very clever way to build excitement for the upcoming Mekanix minseries that I can’t way to review one of these days.

Jean gives us a nice time stamp of where this is happening from Grant Morrison’s New X-Men’s perspective, which would be issue 122, if I’m getting that right.

Cassandra Nova, as Xavier, told the entire world that s/he is a mutant and that the school has always been a school for mutants and the doors are now wide open for all to enroll.

Then my second favorite scene happens :

X-Treme X-Men 19 Storm jokes

I like how years later, Claremont can joke about how often he had the villains be attracted to Storm.  It is a rule that all villains find Storm to be unbelievably attractive.  Even in Avenger Spider-Man 16, Superior Spider-Man (Doctor Octopus in Spider-Man’s body) felt himself drawn to Storm.

It is a running gag that I really like.

Before Kitty can reveal that she is just joking, there is an ad for Pac-Man Fever, which was suppose to be Namco’s answer to Mario Party – which I’m not a fan of either but I bought it for the PS2.

X-Treme X-Men 19 Kitty 3

It is odd how everyone was joking earlier about Storm but Kitty’s mind swap gag is taken serious.  But then they all crack up.

Lifeguard being new, asks if this happens a lot.  Beast tells her that it does actually.

Jean is here, the entire party really is for, to recruit the X-Treme X-Men back to the school to be teachers.  Jean shows an image of the team in the school uniform looks.  For some reason, Storm’s outfit has, instead of pants, a very short miniskirt.  Whose idea is that?  Jean’s?  Xavier’s?  Poor Storm.

A while back, poor Storm, got injured by Viper, and is slowly recovering but on her way to getting back to full health, is stuck in a wheelchair.

Bishop isn’t sure he wants to go teach at the school.  Jean really pushes that they have a responsibility to mutants and humans.

X-Treme X-Men 19 Kitty 4

This sets off Kitty, as she thought mutants were humans, that was the whole point of Xavier’s dream, that they were one and the same.  Now Jean is sounding like Magneto and others, that mutants are different and thus, should be treated differently.

I sort of love seeing Kitty getting heated with Jean, as these two really don’t have any experience with each other.  Kitty knew Madelyne Pryor and knew the Phoenix, but Jean proper, her exposure is pretty limited.

Kitty walks away from the foolish Jean, after stating that they don’t want to see another Genosha happen.  Jean is pretty dumbfounded, she’s not sure what triggered Kitty’s outburst. Which is odd, as she reads people’s minds for how much cake they want but doesn’t get a sense feeling of what is angering Kitty?  Oh the lines that Jean has that she doesn’t cross.

Kurt goes after Kitty, like a good friend.

Storm tells Jean that Kitty’s father was in Genosha.  Jean had no idea.  Bishop reveals that Kitty wrote Storm a letter (which then she clearly let everyone else read!).

Logan also wasn’t told about Kitty’s father.  Bishop tells him that Kitty has started being more like Logan, keeping things close to the vest.  Bishop also tells the team that Kitty has been having problems at college.

Beast offers Storm to come back to the school, if for anything else, for Xorn to help heal her back like how he did to Xavier.  I wonder if Morrison read this issue and laughed and poor Claremont as who knows how much Claremont knew when he wrote the script that Xorn was Magneto (and then have Marvel much later make it so that Xorn wasn’t Magneto and mess even that up!).

Later, Thunderbird and Lifeguard are chatting it up.  She wants to go look for her brother and Neal wants to go with her, she accepts his offer.

Gambit is off by himself in the gardens of the mansion.  Beast comes to find him.  Gambit tells him that Beast’s nanobot technology is healing Gambit at a quick rate and that the scar is going away.  The X-Men can’t be having scars, as that damages their intellectual property and artists will have to be reminded that the scar is there.  So it will be gone by the next time we see Gambit in a future issue.  Just like when Colossus got that tattoo in Kitty’s memory.  Good thing he became part of the Phoenix Five and that vanished.  As I’m sure it isn’t there and it was never shown to be taken off but that must have been what made it go away.

Speaking of quick, Beast then jumps at Gambit to test his reflexes.  Gambit jokes that Beast is as slow as they come.  He takes out his playing cards and Beast surrounds.  I like how Liquid! doesn’t color the cards lighting up as they can’t.

We get to my final favorite scene, and this one from the other side of the emotional line.  Kurt tells Storm that Kitty is upset.

X-Treme X-Men 19 Kitty 6

Storm goes into Kitty’s guestroom.  Kitty has her bags already packed, she is heading back to school – which is the University of Chicago.

Now that Kitty is with a good friend, she unloads on Storm.  Kitty is tired of seeing all of her friends die or being wounded as Storm being in a wheelchair is a brutal reminder of.

X-Treme X-Men 19 Kitty 7

If Kitty doesn’t think of the X-Men, then she can’t be hurt when she finds out that one of them got hurt.

Kitty hugs Storm, she misses her friends so much!

There is a house ad that lets us know where the Ultimate books were at this time – Ultimate X-Men 23, Ultimate Spider-Man 28 & 29 and Ultimates 9.

Bishop checks on Sage, even bringing her a piece of cake!  That is a good friend!  Sage started out as being a member of the Hellfire Club, then it was revealed that she was really Xavier’s mole from the very beginning.  Some people go out of their way to say she was Original 6 but I don’t buy into that but it is nice that Sage has hardcore fans.

Sage doesn’t want to go to Xavier’s school.  He already is surrounded by some great teachers, what the world needs is a team of X-Men who are out there looking out for non-students, essentially, everybody else.

We then are treated to a very nice scene with Rogue and Gambit.  For the first time, Rogue and him are both powerless.  For Rogue, this is quite the opportunity.  I like how vulnerable she makes herself in this scene.  She asks Gambit if he wants to go away with her.  She would understand that since her power kept him at bay, if now that she doesn’t have it, that he doesn’t want her, that it is okay for him to say so.  The reasoning being that it was always easy for him to not make a commitment to her as she would never let him commit if it was never going to be a physical relationship.  Gambit puts her worries aside and they dance the night away.  Since they can actually have a relationship, Gambit wants to take it one day at a time, for both of their sakes.  Which seems to be the smart play.

The next morning, Jean and Storm are surprised they stayed up all night, chatting away and doing the dishes.  I like seeing the X-Men has being friends, it seems like we don’t get enough of these scenes anymore.

There is a very awkward joke about Storm saying nature has to run its course, in regards to her healing.

X-Treme X-Men 19 Kitty 8

Kitty comes into the room, hearing that last line, and says that Storm is the poster child for Mother Nature.  Which I guess is how it works in RL, someone hears half of a conversation and tries to get involved with a lame joke.  I do it all the time.

Kitty’s ride is finally here and she is ready to back to college.

Jean comments to Storm, that she tried leaving the X-Men but always came back, and she hopes Kitty has better luck.  There was this one time that Jean left but then came back, then the X-Men went into outer space and on their return, the ship they were in started falling apart and Jean had to sacrifice herself.  That would make for a good What If.

Once outside, they see that Gambit and Rogue are leaving too.  I start getting a series finale feel with all of these departures.

Thunderbird and Lifeguard tell the gathered mutants that they are leaving too.

Jean tells the remaining members of X-Treme – Storm, Bishop and Sage – that they can always come to Xavier’s if they want.

Wolverine is going to stick behind and make sure Storm heals properly.

Now that Jean is heading back to the mansion, she is wearing a conservative outfit again.  I see what you are up to, Ms. Grey!

Since they broke the destiny circle that they discovered from Destiny’s Diaries, this does wrap up the intial run on the title.  There is a two part miniseries and then the title comes back with issue 20 properly.  I don’t buy another issue until 25 with the sequel to God Loves, Man Kills.  We’ll review those issues one of these days.

There is an ad for Mekanix, and claiming not to miss it.  Which I did as in Previews, I saw the name and shook my head at it and turned the page.  Now I read those Marvel ones super close.  Though if I still got the book, I could at least see the covers better but still.  The first issue came out on October 19, 2002.

The back cover is for Oreo Os, the breakfast cereal.  Which is how I like to eat Oreos.  I like to put three or four on the bottom of a bowl and then wait a minute and eat them that way with a spoon.  Dunking is for fools!

. . .

So that’s X-Treme X-Men 19, not a Thanksgiving Day comic but a comic with friends and cake.  Not sure what we will do going forward but I’m sure any comic can show thanks for something but that’s on me to figure out.  Please enjoy whoever you get to be with this day and hope you enjoy the food you get to eat!  The food is the reason this is my favorite holiday of them all!

X-Men Volume One Issue 30

Posted by John Klein III on November 26, 2014

X-Men V1 30

Writer Fabian Nicieza

Penciler Andy Kubert

Inker Matt Ryan

Colorist Joe Rosas

Letterer Bill Oakley

Cover Dated March 1994

Before this issue, I own issue 28 and after this, I own issue 77 – but there is very little continuity involved here besides who is alive and who is dead, to worry about.

I wish there were more successful mutant marriages.  Right now there is only Captain Britain and Meggan’s as well as Northstar and Kyle’s.  One of these years, I will be reviewing Astonishing X-Men 51.  From my list that I’m working off of, it should be four years from now.  Hopefully I’m still doing this then.  I would like to be still doing this by then.

Onto the issue :

The very first thing we see if a letter from Wolverine, the next page, we see that Jean is reading the letter.  I’m not sure if Kubert just draws the border of the letter and then Oakley actually writes the words of the letter but I’m pretty sure that is not the handwriting of Wolverine.  Maybe of James Howlett but not Logan.

Jean is being dressed by her mother, Elaine, Storm and in the background, Rachel.  Rachel looks so mad in the very first panel but then we see her mood lightens as Jean’s mother, her grandmother, keeps trying to get her daughter to stand still.

Elaine tells Jean that she is one in a million and she has the genetics to back her statement up.  Which is super awkward as there was a clone of her daughter running around and even marrying the man that Jean is about to marry in only a few hours.  But maybe Elaine wasn’t told that.

That thought must cross Scott’s mind at least sometime later that night or the next day, he is marrying the original genetic source of his first wife.  Or however that should be said.  Or maybe it should never be said, nor written.

Jean has a nice moment when she tells Rachel that if one of the successful events that comes from this wedding / marriage, is that they have a daughter, then Jean is doubly blessed this day.  Rachel is so happy to hear this.  Which is amazing as the bridesmaid dresses look atrocious.

I really like how Jean tells Rachel this in clear earshot of Elaine, so poor Elaine has had to probably accept this time travel / alternate history nonsense and has just accepted it.  She will later, years later, regret Rachel’s existence in the Grey’s End storyline, but let’s keep this a happy review.  For shame!

Rachel gets to call Jean, mom, and the way it is lettered, you can feel how nervous and happy she says it, how she finally got to say it.

We cut to Scott and his closest friends.  Which I like that his closest friends is his best man – his brother, Alex.  Then his other friends are the other male members of the Original Five – Beast, Iceman and Archangel.

Iceman keeps giving him a hard time about this being the last day of his free life.  Typical bachelor stuff.

Beast and Archangel are having the hardest time with doing Scott’s bow tie.  Then Xavier shows up and does the tie for him.  Xavier ends his little speech with the question if the team even needs him around anymore, as his original students are now adults and getting married.  I suppose the analogy is the tie between the past and the present?  It isn’t very clear.

I’m surprised with how much this issue now is from Xavier’s preservative and he takes over the narration for the rest of the issue.  Maybe it is to put us in the eyes of a guest as Jean and Scott’s thoughts are not going to be anything out of the ordinary.

The men head out as they don’t want Jean beating them to the alter.

We get a nice moment where Xavier moves from his awesome 90s Shi’ar chair to a more traditional wheelchair.  He can’t have people knowing that he is a mutant.  Which is odd that he kept that secret for as long as he did.  Also odd that with Archangel and Beast present, as well as Nightcrawler, that is three blue mutants walking around.  How many guests could either Jean and Scott possibly invited that don’t know that they are mutants or the secret of the Xavier Mansion?

As Xavier is changing wheelchairs, he drops a letter from Wolverine that Rachel helps pick up for him.  So weird how the creative team made a huge point to not show Wolverine at all.  They even later go out of their way to not show him that makes for an awkward moment.

Xavier sees humans and mutants united to take part in a joyous moment, one of the rare times he can see his dream realized.  All mutants have to do is make five friends and have those friends make five friends and the world will be a better place.

Then we get to see who all showed up :

X-Men 30 Wedding Attendance

See the Excalibur row?  From left to right – Captain Britain, Meggan (wearing glasses?), Nightcrawler, Kitty Pryde (with a very interesting hairstyle) and Rachel, as she takes her seat.

This is the only time we see Kitty, we know from What If 60 and the Wedding Album, that Kitty is present – though her hairstyle changes as the day goes.  This is the only time we see her this issue.

Scott is getting nervous as he is waiting for Jean’s appearance.  I know that’s how I got as my lovely bride as a little late.  My nervous bladder was doing flips!

Kitty didn’t go to Quicksilver and Crystal’s wedding, so I don’t own that issue but I did leave them off from my mutant marriages.

I like how Cable showed up, even though Cyclops is marrying the woman who his own mother was the clone of.  The Summers family is one crazy place!

Then the bridal party comes out.  Storm is the maid of honor.  Earlier, Bobby commented that it is January in Westchester and there isn’t a cloud in sight – that is due to Storm making it so.  This is where we learn that Scott and Jean got married in January – I wish we were given the day of the week.  They are X-Men, so it isn’t like this wedding had to be on the weekend, they don’t have jobs or anything like that to work their day around.

Storm motions to Lila Cheney, who she and her band are providing the music for the wedding and reception.  That is quite the get!

Then Jean and her father walk down the aisle.  Dr. John Grey hands his daughter off to her soon to be husband.

The couple exchanges their vows that they made up themselves.  We only get snippets of each and not sure which comes from whom.

There are three Fleer cards celebrating the wedding but they make it super awkward to read these two pages.

I’m not sure which religion or preference it is that does the whole tie their hands together for the ceremony, I’ve never seen it done.  I’ve been to a lovely Hispanic wedding where they did it with much larger loops that went around their bodies with a small loop connecting them.  That’s the closest I’ve seen.

Then they kiss and we now have Scott and Jean Grey-Summers!

Jubilee is the first to start hollering and Xavier is the first to start the applause.

The reception.

Lila Cheney, plays as the first dance song, which is U2’s One.

Which I’m not the biggest U2 fan, I mostly only like Beautiful Day, and that is largely due to how the WWE used it for HHH’s return package video for when he returned in January 2002, in time to win the Royal Rumble.  Which is my favorite WWE PPV annual event.

That’s my U2 history.

I swear from 1999 to 2006, my WWE years, Steve Johnston, the music developer, made me buy or download every song they used to either promote PPVs or individual wrestlers.

It just makes sense, to combine wrestling footage with songs, as that is what action movies have been doing with scores, for decades.

Jean dances with her father as her mother forces Scott to dance with her.  I danced with my own mother when my father-in-law danced with my wife.  That seems to be the thing to do.  Poor Scott’s mother is dead and only his grandparents were able to make it.  The Starjammers were off in space but Corsair sent his well wishes.  Imagine dancing with Hepzibah in front of everyone?  I imagine Jean wouldn’t have liked that.  meow!

We take a small break to see Sabretooth in the snow outside of the celebration.  He has special metal gloves on and his mouth has a metal plate over it.  If I remember correctly, this is during the time when Sabretooth is the prisoner of the X-Men.  I wonder why they didn’t just leave him in his cell?  Letting him out for his walk seems pretty irresponsible.  He starts commenting, aloud, that he can still cause a lot of damage even with his restraints.  Then he is kicked from behind.  He turns around and someone took the time to write in the snow, Don’t Even Think About It.  Did Wolverine write that first, and then kick Victor?  He must have, but it is so weird!

Back at the wedding.  Beast and Iceman are both missing their girlfriends, Trish Tilby and Opal Tanaka – respectfully.

This is the section that really places the time stamp on the issue.

Cable sees Val Cooper, who is currently hunting him and X-Force (I imagine) for the government.  She jokes that she doesn’t see him there.

Polaris is about to lose her mind on the next person who asks when she and Alex get married.  Which I do own that issue that they attempt it – Uncanny X-Men 425 and 426 – written by Chuck Austen.  They don’t make it down the alter but maybe I can tack it on when I don’t have any more actual weddings to cover.  Something to think about considering.  That’s way in August 2003, so nine years later!

It is time for the tossing of the bouquet.  Jean does her part and Rogue simply flies overhead and grabs it.  Another instance of mutants at the wedding!

Next comes the garter.  Jean doesn’t want to do this.  Hank told Scott that Strong Guy (Guido Carolsella) would have been upset if they didn’t.  What does that mean?  That he wanted a chance to look up Jean’s dress?

So it is time to do it.  And the guys who want to catch it are insane!  We know it is Rogue who got the flowers, so how much does Cable really want to be the guy who places it on her thigh?  She’s going to absorb your energy if you are not careful!

As the guys fumble on top of each other, an explosion happens and Gambit is seen holding the garter.  Like there was any chance of anyone else getting it.  We don’t get to see Gambit placing it on Rogue.

We didn’t do any of this at our wedding.  My wife wanted to keep her flowers and didn’t want to lose her garter so we never got around to it and no one noticed.  We did do the cash dance so our priorities were right.

Then the cake in the face happens.  Jean opts to not stuff it over Scott’s face.  We didn’t do that either, we had small pieces prepared.

There is a panel of Rachel and Cable watching their ‘parents’ dance.  Cable’s father and maybe Rachel’s parents.

Lila makes an announcement that the bride requests one final dance.  It is for Xavier.  Xavier is hesitant as he really doesn’t want Jean showing off her mutant powers.  She doesn’t care, it is her day.  She uses her telekinesis powers to lift and and they dance.

As the issue wraps up, Scott visits Xavier in his office.  Alex is going to drive the newlyweds to the airport (I guess Xavier didn’t want them using the Blackbird).  This gives Alex and Scott a chance to talk about Multiple Man’s death (from the Legacy Virus) – don’t worry, it was only a dupe.

That scene ends with Scott telling the closest thing he has to a father, that he loves him.  aw!  We also learn in this scene that his actual father sent a good luck message.

Xavier looks out the window.  He finally opens his letter from Wolverine, all it says is “Charles, Lighten Up.  Logan” and this cracks Xavier up.  He really should have read that letter first!

So interesting that Wolverine bookends the comic with letters and makes no appearances.  The heck!

Be back here for What If Volume Two Issue 60 in two days!

X-Men The Animated Series – Scott and Jean’s Weddings

Posted by John Klein III on November 25, 2014
Posted in: Cartoon, Fun With YouTube. Tagged: Animated Series, YouTube. Leave a comment

In honor of my wife and mine’s sixth wedding anniversary on the 29th, we begin our four part visit to Scott and Jean’s wedding.  The other three issues will be X-Men Volume One 30, What If Volume Two 60 and the X-Men Wedding Album.

But first, we visit their wedding attempts on the 90s FOX X-Men the Animated Series wherein Scott and Jean tried to get married twice.

Wedding Attempt One

Til Death Do Us Part, Part One – Season Two, Episode 1

Thanks to YouTuber X-Men Tas for hosting these two videos!

For including sake, here is Part Two

Wedding Attempt Two

Beyond Good and Evil, Part One – Season Four, Episode 11

It starts around the 8:03 mark.

Thanks to X-Men The Animated Series Full Episodes for hosting these!

Here are the other parts

Part Two

Part Three

Part Four

These were not easy to find, the second one was but not the first.  So I imagine these will be taken down rather soon.  I’ll try to update this post if that happens.

If Part Ones are the episodes not taken down, I probably won’t bother with replacing the other parts.  But I will try to replace the episodes that do feature the Weddings.

All New X-Men 32

All New X-Men 32

Writer Brian Michael Bendis

Artist Mahmud Asrar

Colorist Marte Gracia

Letterer VC’s Cory Petit

Cover by Sara Pichelli

The cover, the only time Kitty Pryde appears in the issue is a homage to Uncanny X-Men 139.

The team, who are all separated from each other but are all in the Ultimate Universe – so that’s one good thing.

Angel is in the Savage Land where James Hudson, the current Wolverine, is.  Wolverine recognizes Angel as not being the one that his dad knew.

Beast wakes up in the water and swims to shore.  Based off of the language people are using, he believes he is in Turkey.

X23 is at a football game.

Iceman is surrounded by The Mole Man and his Morloids.  Iceman doesn’t know who Mole Man is, and Mole Man doesn’t know what a phone is.

Jean has met Spider-Man, at the end of last issue.

All New X-Men 32 Proper Kitty Mention

Sorry the image isn’t as great, my home scanner isn’t that large so I lost a little along the two edges but I just wanted the proper Kitty Pryde line.  Which is nice that it is in the middle of the page.

I’m surprised this wasn’t an easier image to find online but no one had a Lettered copy of it.

Jean is trying to get her bearings.  Spider-Man tries to figure out what the deal is.  I do enjoy how he keeps trying to reintroduce himself.  Providing names will at least give the two something to refer to each other as.

Jean recognizes that Spider-Man is in a new costume, but only to her.  Jean finally introduces herself and he recognizes the name.  It doesn’t take much for the two of them to figure out that they don’t know each other at all.  How great of a title would “Kitty Pryde and the X-Men” be!

Jean wants to just jump ahead a few minutes and just read his mind.  Which really, Jean?  You can’t just continue a conversation?  I like how Spider-Man’s main concern is that he’s a teenage boy and not all of his thoughts should be read.

Just like in All New X-Men 5, when Jean read Beast’s mind, she makes the same mistake and reads Spider-Man’s mind.  That girl doesn’t learn from anything!

All New X-Men 32 Ultimate Kitty

At least we get to see Ultimate Kitty Pryde, that’s pretty awesome!

We get scenes of Miles’ life that I don’t have any context for as I only read his in Cataclysm and All New Ultimates. He’s fighting his uncle, The Prowler.  His meeting with Proper Peter Parker during Spider-Men.  Him kissing, I believe, Kate Bishop, his girlfriend.

Jean knows she is on the wrong Earth.  Spider-Man knows all about that.  I like how he recognizes that he shouldn’t have said, Peter Parker.  Jean doesn’t know who that is.  Jean’s comment about being in both the wrong time and space is pretty clever.

Spider-Man offers to take Jean to where the rip between universes is.  I like how he instinctively grabs Jean so they can swing away.  Jean doesn’t like to be grabbed.

X23 is on a motorcycle, with several police cars right behind her.  She drives off a bridge and onto a truck.

Beast gets to a city, as he figures out he is in Latveria.  The Doombots help

Spider-Man and Jean get to where the tear is.  Dr. Cho arrives, announcing that the tear is gone, as is his research.  He tells Jean that she is stuck there, as the issue ends.  At least he had the good sense to ask for some of her blood and urine.

November 23, 2004

On this tenth anniversary of meeting my wife for the first time, let me give you a little history lesson :

I am a huge fan of How I Met Your Mother.

Let me tell you all how important Greg Glass is to my life. Without this guy, 7th grade would not have been ideal. Without him, I would never have met Jesus Rangel in 8th grade. I met Jesus Diaz on my own that same year! Those three are the best friends any guy could ever ask for.

Those three guys made high school and so many more years afterwards a complete joy.

Without Greg though, I would never have met his mother, Francis. Without expressing to her how much I would like to get into politics, she would never had told me to join the Neighborhood Leadership Academy.

If I did not join the NLA, I would not have met Lisa Sergant or the amazing Ceci Torres.

Without those two ladies, I would never would have gotten a job as a Student Worker at NAU-Yuma.

Without getting that job, I would never have met the woman of my dreams on this fateful day so many years ago, November 23, 2004. A Tuesday.

Thank you, dear wife, for making the past decade, the best I’ve ever known!

Ylvis – Stonehenge

Forget about what the fox says, the real question is : Who built Stonehedge.

Ylvis’ Stonehenge, and so many of other other songs are so much better than the song they became known for.

Thanks to YouTuber TVNorge for hosting the video.

Everything I know about Jan Egeland comes from their song about him.

They have so many good songs!

Trucker’s Hitch is a new favorite

Massachusetts, is pretty novel

Just to make sure I include it, What Does the Fox Say –

Which I wanted to include so I could segue to

Saturday Night Live’s Jay Pharaoh and Kerry Washington’s What Does My Girl Say.

My wife really likes the, who dat bitch, line.

Thanks to NBC for hosting the video.

Uncanny X-Men Volume Three Issue 26

Posted by John Klein III on November 21, 2014

Uncanny X-Men V3 26

Writer Brian Michael Bendis

Artist Kris Anka

Lettering and Produciton VC’s Joe Caramanga

Cover by Chris Bachalo and Tim Townsend

I like this cover very much.

SHIELD Helicarrier.  Floating 1,000 miles south of Newberry, South Carolina.  Maria Hill is watching Matthew Malloy and the crater he left.  Hill shares that Tony Stark had five nightmares that kept him up at night.  Hill only has the one and Malloy is it.  Just a regular guy who woke up with the powers of a god.  She wants the Avengers, but all of the good ones are off planet.  The Fantastic Four are out of the question, for some odd reason.  Hill wants the state to be evacuated.

Uncanny X-Men V3 26 Kitty 1

The Jean Grey School.

Scott comes barging out of the office.  Scott is done with all of this Xavier nonsense.  Wolverine really wants to go on the mission, as it was Xavier’s last wish.  Well, one of his last wishes, as it was implied that there was more to the message.

I like the team of Cyclops, Wolverine and Rachel.  I know there was a theory that Wolverine could have been Rachel’s father from the Days of Future Past storyline, so that fanbase could be pleased that she gets to go on a mission with her two dads.  I’m not one of those people, Cyclops is her father, as she has told us he is and we should be able to trust her own knowledge.  One could say that Jean told her Scott is her father and she just never questioned it but that seems a bit out of character on Jean’s part.

I sort of like Iceman’s joke about Xavier’s last wish was probably – please Scott, don’t kill me.  That’s awfully catty of him.  Scott’s look of such displeasure really seals it too!

Uncanny X-Men V3 26 Kitty Kurt

Storm and Wolverine want Cyclops on that plane.  Scott turns to Emma, and she also wants him on the plane.  The faster he is on it, the faster they can go home.

I love that shot of Kurt and Kitty.  Anka really is a terrific artist!  I wonder what the teams are going to do as they stay at the mansion.  With all of the hugs last issue, I would have thought that the two teams would just go back to their respected schools.

Firestar feels bad for Cyclops.  Iceman, like the dick that he is, is surprised by this.

Uncanny X-Men V3 26 Kitty 2

Firestar gets it.  Cyclops wasn’t in full control of his emotions, he had gone Dark Phoenix.  No one gives Jean crap for how her personality that the Phoenix was using, was completely okay with destroying the D’Bari planet when she devoured their sun.

Why does Iceman keep calling him, Scott Summers.  Is there another one?  I mean, one that isn’t in space at the moment.  There is only one Scott within a mile radius.

Kitty probably died a little having to actually talk to Bobby there.

Bobby is really upset that Xavier is dead.  This from the guy who could barely care that he almost killed his actual father in that spectacular Astonishing X-Men Frozen storyline, otherwise known as the Dark Iceman Saga.  People are still suffering the effects of lost limbs and ruined homes from all of the frostbite and snow.

Iceman wants Cyclops to die in battle.  When no one else supports his desires, he just ice slides away like a big ol’ ice baby.

Newberry, South Carolina.  Malloy is trying out his powers.

For some reason, SHIELD has X-Men villain, Exodus’ phone number.  Not only that, but he actually took the call and is now on the Hellicarrier.  Maybe he has a secret plan to take control?  He reaches out and touches Malloy’s mind.  Matty doesn’t care for that and kills Exodus.  He did get to reveal that Malloy is a mutant.  Hill wants the X-Men brought in.

Meanwhile, the Avengers are attacking the New Xavier School students.  Triage doesn’t want to participate in this exercise.  Goldballs is trying his codename as his catchphrase.

Bendis gets to comment on how many X-Fans feel with all of this Avengers vs X-Men nonsense.  How the X-Men are put in the villain role by the virtue of the Avengers being placed in the hero / starring role.

Celeste makes a great joke about how Cyclops hates the Avengers like Wolverine hates showers.

Hijack is 30 years.

Cerebro.  Beast has discovered that Matthew Malloy is above Omega-Level mutant.

Hill shows up to personally retrieve the X-Men, as the issue ends.
