69th Primetime Emmy Awards, Nominations

Posted by John Klein III on July 14, 2017

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/69th_Primetime_Emmy_Awards

They announced the 69th Primetime Emmy Award nominees yesterday.  I’m so far out of touch with television but a few things I’m still making time to watch did make the list.  My wife’s interests are definitely represented though.

Outstanding Comedy Series

I still need to watch Atlanta, as I do like Donald Glover.  I need to get get back into Silicon Valley, that first season finale was so good but we’ve been flirting with getting rid of HBO so much that I didn’t want to commit to the show, if I couldn’t finish it.  Which is silly, as I would have been done with it so long ago.  We’re still watching Black-ish and Modern Family, though Modern Family seems to be winding way down.  Still not enough Ariel Winters for me.  Alex is by far, the best character on that show.

Programs

Outstanding Drama Series

My wife watched The Handmaid’s Tale and Westworld.  James Marsden is on Westworld, so I really do need to make a point of watching that show.  We’re big fans of This Is Us, so it’ll be nice to see that show win.  I like how they got the series lasting until season three, that seems like a show that could have three great years and have told the story they need to tell.  We also enjoyed Stranger Things, and are looking forward to that second season on Halloween, this year.

Outstanding Variety Talk Series

Is there a reason Conan O’Brien can’t get nominated for this award!?!  It boggles my mind!  I would like to see John Oliver win it, but when that third season started off, and I knew it was going to be Anti-Trump like crazy but those first two episodes were hard to watch.  Like, I get it, not many were happy he become our president but our president he is, so I just can’t watch a show that is that extremely negative.  I barely have time to watch the shows I do like.

Outstanding Variety Sketch Series

Drunk History!  I can watch that show, all day!  Seemed like they were petering out with this latest season but still, the worst episode of that show is still better than most episodes of other shows.  I had to give up on Saturday Night Live too, just so Trump crazy and Alec Bladwin’s impression of him is a tad much.

Outstanding Limited Series

I want to watch Season Two of Fargo, just for Rachel Keller.

Outstanding Television Movie

I really do need to get caught up with Sherlock, finally got around to watching Doctor Strange, which I enjoyed.  On principle, I’ll be fine with Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors : Circle of Love winning.

Outstanding Reality-Competition Program

Now this is my category!  Which isn’t great, on my part, but like the Best Animated Feature category of the Oscars, this is the one that I’ve invested in the most.  We watch Amazing Race, American Ninja Warrior, The Voice and Top Chef – whenever Hulu updates with a new season – which feels like a while now.  I would love love LOVE American Ninja Warrior to win it.  That would be amazing!

Acting

Leading Performances

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series

Of the two shows, I’ll pick Hang Time alumn Anthony Anderson over the Mace.  Shameless is becoming a show that is harder to watch, with each new season.  Like, it isn’t even fun anymore.

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series

I guess Tracee Ellis Ross for her second win, for me.  Has Dolly Parton showed up on Grace and Frankie yet?  As a West Wing fan, I should watch that show on principle and I shout root for Allison Janney in this category but I can’t bring myself to do it.  Not yet.

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series

Sterling K. Brown as Randall from This is Us, all day!  Such a great character!  Kevin Spacey’s character being listed as the President, Second Gentleman to First Gentleman, makes me want to watch that show.  Milo Ventimiglia as Jack from This is Us is another good contender.  My wife watches The Americans so I’m sure she’ll be fine with Matthew Rhys winning, so she’s not going to watch the Emmys.

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series

My wife watches How to Get Away with Murder, and I like Viola Davis, so I’m fine with a win from her.  Elisabeth Moss, another West Wing Alum, is up for The Handmaid’s Tale, a show my wife really got into.  She downloaded the book and said it was a pretty decent adaption.  Apparently the book and the show are rather hard to watch.  A win from her shows The Americans and Westworld would be good too.  I’ve barely heard anything from The Crown.

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie

HBO’s The Night Of sounds like an interesting show that I should track down.  Michelle Pfeiffer wasn’t nominated for The Wizard of Lies but I could watch a Bernie Madoff film, it has Robert De Niro in a credible role again so it has to be good, right?  Benedict Cumberbatch, I do like as Sherlock.  I’m like in the middle of the fourth episode, I should really try to finish that one.  Ewan McGregor was another reason why I wanted to watch Fargo.

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie

I didn’t watch Big Little Lies nor Feud : Bette and Joan – so that’s two thirds of the category right there.  I wouldn’t mind watching them though, though I was burnt out on Jessica Lange after two and a half seasons of American Horror Show.

Supporting Performances

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series

I’m surprised to learn that Louie Anderson is still around!  Good for him, he’s 64 right now.  I rather Alec Baldwin did not win for being President Trump on SNL.  Imagine if he does!?!  It’ll be even more nonstop!  I should really watch Veep – everything about it sounds up my alley.  Ty Burrell is still hanging on strong in this category.

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series

Good gosh!  I heard SNL was the best it has been in years but to have Vanessa Bayer, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon all nominated is pretty nice!  McKinnon won last year, and I would love to get Vanessa Bayer as this year’s winner.  I had to look up Anna Chlumsky, as the name looked so familiar.  She co-hosted the nominated ceremony, she’s the Girl in My Girl.  Which it looks like she’s been having quite the career in these past few years.

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series

Ron Cephas Jones as William from This is Us, such a great character!  That one episode, oh boy!  I’m surprised they put Sterling K. Brown as Lead Actor, I thought that show would pull a Modern Family and consider everybody Supporting.  It does seem to be Randal and Jack’s story though.  David Harbour is pretty fun in Stranger Things, he had quite the character arc on that show.  Is Homeland still a thing?  Who still watched it after season three?  I tried season four’s first episode and was just done as I couldn’t watch Carrie anymore.

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series

I also gave up on Orange is the New Black, though I’m sure that had more to do with my wife wanting to really watch the show.  She’s home all day with Walker Dennis so whatever makes her life easier, I usually support.  Millie Booby Brown as Eleven on Stranger Things should probably take it.  I wonder if she would be a record winner or something.  I do like Chrissy Metz as Kate on This Is Us.  My wife would like that two people from The Handmaid’s Tale got nominated.  I guess, with Westworld, she has seen every show in this category – pretty impressive!

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie

Alfred Molina is in Feud : Bette and Joan?  That’s really interesting.  I also learn recently that Alexander Skarsgard is in Big Little Lies and I’ll watch that man in anything!  I heard he is pretty cruel to Nicole Kidman’s character, on that show.  I use to be a giant Stanley Tucci fan, not sure what happened there, he’s like Olivier Platt, I would watch a movie just because he’s in it.

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie

Laura Dern is in Big Little Lies?  I was already tempted by Shailene Woodley (who is also nominated) but Dern being in it means I should probably watch that first episode.  I like how everyone is nominated in that show, I’m just not a big fan of Kidman and Witherspoon.  I’m of the mind that Nicole Kidman has only truly been great in Batman Forever.  That’s the most I’ve ever been attracted to her.  She was alright in Moulin Rouge! and Eyes Wide Shut.  She’s in that horrible The Others movie that I saw in the theater and that may have been the turning point with me and her.  Usually, she’s just in films I have no interest in.  Same with Witherspoon, outside of Cruel Intentions and that action romantic comedy film.  Oh man, and she’s in Pleasantville and Election – great films.  So I like early Witherspoon, I guess.  This Means War, I like to look up that movie’s title.  I forgot she’s in American Psycho and the good Twilight film.  Gosh, she’s in Fear too, a film that every father should show his daughter, just so she can learn the important lesson to listen to their fathers when they saw the boy isn’t right for her.  Perhaps, they might listen for just a little bit.

Directing

Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series

Donald Glover directed an episode of Atlanta, they should give him the award!  I like MIke Judge directing an episode of his series, Silicon Valley, someone else directed the other episode the show got nominated for.  Veep got three nominations.

Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series

The Handmaid’s Tale got two episodes nominated.  The Duffer Brothers got nominated for directing the pilot episode of their series, Stranger Things.  Though the first episode wasn’t the most amazing of the batch but it sets up everything.  I didn’t realize Westworld was Jonathan Nolan’s followup to Person of Interest, a show we really enjoy.  I see the last season of that show is finally on Netflix so we can finally finish it.

Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special

This was the other category that I would certainly have seen everything on it.  We’ve been dialing way back on our interest in celebrities, unless they are cooking, so we don’t see many award shows anymore.  Mostly, just the highlights on YouTube or the photos the next day.  These shows really are just interesting for the results.  I don’t really care about the speeches.  Especially if they are political.  And even more especially, if all the political speeches are from the same viewpoint, so they are just adding to their own side.  I do remember liking Samantha Bee from The Daily Show but I usually just figure the Oscar director wins this.

Outstanding Directing for a Limited Series, Movie, or Dramatic Special

I really want Noah Hawley to win for Fargo, just for his work with bringing Legion to FX, alone.  Love that show!  Ryan Murphy is nominated for directing his show Feud : Bette and Joan.  Is there talk of doing another famous feud for season two?  I imagine that’s why they have the subtitle.  Ron Howard directing Genius, makes me want to learn more about that show.  I saw it nominated for a few other awards.  The Night Of got two nominations too.

Writing

Outstanding Writing for a Comedic Series

The Glovers got nominated for two separate episodes of Atlanta.  I watched Legion so I should be able to watch Atlanta.  I’ve heard of Stephen in Donald’s standup material before.

Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series

The Americans got nominated as did The Handmaid’s Tale.  I like the Duffer Brothers being nominated for Stranger Things as well as Jonathan Nolan being co-nominated for Westworld.

Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special

I’ve been misspelling Outstanding, every single time. I think it is the two t’s being right next to each other that is messing me up.  Louis C.K. for his standup, is a nomination I can get behind.  Walker Dennis is all in on Secret Life of Pets so I’ve been hearing Louis C.K.’s voice a lot, this past week.  Plus, I keep getting Home Movies flashbacks as he isn’t doing a different voice.  If you cast Louis C.K., you want that distinctive voice.  Is Sarah Silverman still doing standup?  I’ve been liking her in her dramatic work, as of late.  The Tonys got nominated too.

Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series

Hey, Seth Meyers got nominated for an Emmy!  SNL is probably going to take this but I wouldn’t mind John Oliver too.

Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series, Movie or Dramatic Special

I should watch Black Mirror, I’ve been wanting too ever since Ryan Guy mention it on Turtle Soup.  Is Big Little Lies a David E. Kelley show?  Is he still married to Michelle Pfeiffer?  Yes and Yes!  One doesn’t divorce Michelle Pfeiffer!   I didn’t even realize Ally McBeal crossed over with his other shows Boston Public and Boston Legal.  They crossed over twice!  I should look those episodes up.  Also, I should stop looking at his Wikipedia page.  I should also donate three dollars to their cause, the next time that pops up.  There it is.  I wanted to confirm that he actually did work on To Gillian on Her 37th Birthday, as that was Freddie Prinze Jr.’s first gig and he told a story about seeing the two of them at the table read and they were pretty cute together, that morning.  Kelley wrote and produced that movie.  Probably shouldn’t read into the fact that she’s never done any appearances on any of his shows, right?  Like, that movie wasn’t a huge success, though it did give us Claire Danes as a movie actress and it gave us Prinze, so its legacy is secured in the annuals of time and important things.  Hey, he even created that Wonder Woman would-be show for NBC and he even created Sarah Gellar’s The Crazy Ones.  Heck!  He even co-created Doogie Howser, MD!   (Now, I’m just rewriting his Wikipedia page for your benefit.)

So Kelley should totally win an Emmy for Big Little Lies, as I’m not visiting anyone else’s Wikipedia page.  Hey, Noah Hawley is up for Fargo, so I’m okay with him stealing both categories!  That would be neat if he won a writing Emmy and a directing Emmy, on the same night.  That may be historic.  That Hawley, likes to be involved in all aspects of his show.  Which he totally should be.

Since there was a handy link to Feud  : Bette and Joan, I clicked on it and they totally are going with a new feud for season two.  Charles and Diana – which seems shitty to me.  Msn.com will still have articles about the princes being sad about their mother’s death (which was super tragic and fuck the paparazzi – who are still a pain, even twenty years later.  Are we 30 years later?  No, twenty years ago.  In fact, August 31, 2017 will be the twentieth sadiversary.  Which might explain those articles I saw a few weeks ago.  Anyone else see the headlines on msn.com and not be tempted to click on any of them?  Happens to me, all the time.

I guess I got bored with the Emmys, towards the end there, and started clicking on all the handy links on that page.  Shoot, the season season of Feud airs next year, that’s missing the opportunity to have synergy with this important year.  Maybe they are purposely delaying it for that reason?  Which won’t work, articles will just state that last year was sadiversary – so they were never going to escape it.  Not like that’s what they were hoping for, as they clearly created this show to tie with the reality of the situation.

. . .

The Emmy’s air on September 17, 2017 on CBS – so hopefully CBS All Access hosts the show or we won’t be able to watch it.  Awkwardly, CBS only got six nominations, so that doesn’t look great for them.  If it wasn’t for James Corden and Stephen Colbert (who is hosting the show) and their late night shows, CBS would be barely represented.  Amazing Race and Mom’s Allison Janney got the other nominations.  Oh, and CBS aired the Tony Awards, last year.  Colbert is nominated for two awards, even.

Wikipedia’s Kitty Pryde Template

Posted by John Klein III on July 12, 2017
Posted in: Fun With YouTube, Websites. Tagged: YouTube. Leave a comment

So I was looking up information regarding Kitty Pryde, as I do, and I came across this –

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Kitty_Pryde

Kitty Pryde was given her own template on Wikipedia, that’s pretty cool!

I was trying to figure out who originally created it but I can’t figure that out.

Oh, I was looking up to see how well received Days of Future Past was, as I downloaded the code for the Rogue Cut onto our Vudu account.  Something I didn’t really pay that close attention to, in the past.  It look like 30 minutes to upload our 20 or so codes.

Is there a way to reapply for Deadpool and Big Hero 6 codes?  I’m not sure what happen to our inserts but we no longer have the slips, so I can’t get credit for it.  Anyone know if I can provide the UPC and maybe a picture of it, to someone, and get a new code?  That would be nice.

So I went and checked Lockheed and Magik’s pages.  They don’t have their own templates yet.

Lockheed is still listed under Members of the X-Men template, between Lifeguard and Longshot.

Magik on the other hand, is involved in a couple templates.

X-Men Template, as a Member, between Maggot and Magma

New Mutants Template, as a Later Recruit, between Magma and Cypher.  At least it is in order of appearance unlike the X-Men template.  Which makes sense as they are a smaller group.  Seems odd to not include those three as Original Members, including Warlock.  I would start the “later recruits” page with Bird-brain, if it was me.  I guess it is interesting to note which five started the series, they did that with the X-Men template.  To me, though, the team isn’t really the New Mutants without someone or two of the later recruits – such as Magik and Doug.

Mystical Marvel Entities Template, under Demons, between Llan and Kazaan – two characters I’m not familiar with, at all.  Llan the Sorcerer was an Alpha Flight foe and Kazaan appeared in Fear Itself but starting out as a Ghost Rider villain.

Grigori Rasputin in Popular Culture, under Comics, and between her two older brothers – Colossus and Mikhail Rasputin.

According to this website –

https://www.comicbookmovie.com/x-men/new_mutants/new-mutants-storyboard-animatic-confirms-demon-bear-as-main-villain-nat-wolff-eyed-for-cannonball-a147035

Lockheed is in the animatic for the New Mutants film, along with Magik.

I’ll believe it once I see actual footage of him, in the film.  I am all for this though and I’m sure they’ll eventually work him over to Kitty Pryde but I’m super fine with him being associated with Magik, as well.

Anya Taylor-Joy is going to portray Magik in the movie, I’m not that familiar with her.  I haven’t seen The Witch but I’m following it on Roku so I can watch it once it arrives on one of our subscription channels.

She’s one of the gals in Split, a movie I really want to watch now that I heard about the ending of that film.

I was hoping to find a sweet picture of her that would show her as being a great Magik but I’m not finding one.

Someone was nice enough to put them together in the same image.  I can’t tell who did it originally.  I’m just adding to those who have done it.  If anyone knows, I would love to give the first person credit.  Seems like there isn’t that many great images of her to choose from.

To try to end on a more Kitty Pryde related note, Ellen Page is going to be in the Flatliners sequel, which looks intense!

Thanks to FilmSelect Trailer for hosting the video!

The trailer makes the film look so good.  I’m a huge fan of the original, that cast was amazing back then.  Time will tell if anyone besides Ellen Page makes a third film after this.  Well, I recognize Nina Dobrev from all of the Vampire Diaries that my wife watched.  But are they going to reach the fame of Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon, William Baldwin, Olivier Platt!?!  Oh and Hope Davis is in that original film too!  There was like 30 movies that I watched simply because it had Olivier Platt in it.  I’ll still watch an Olivier Platt film, as I’m such a fan of his.  Those original five cast members, well besides maybe William Baldwin being the weakest link in it, are all pretty incredible.

That Rogue Cut of Days of Future Past, it is like an hour before any of that footage shows up but I really like how they intercut the two Magnetos getting Rogue in the future and getting his helmet in the past.  Shame that didn’t make it to the final cut.

Searching YouTube, one video actually has the New Mutants animatic in it –

I’ll have to listen to the audio once I get a moment but it takes place between the 5:45 and 6:45 mark.  Magik, Lockheed and the Demon Bear!

Thanks to Emergency Awesome for hosting the video.

Wikipedia doesn’t have a page for the New Mutants film, yet, but that seems odd, right?  Most films get pages created as soon as one actor is attached to a project.

Pushing the bar along to find the clip I wanted, I was reminded that James McAvoy and Anya Taylor-Joy are both in Split, so I really do need to make a point of watching that film.  It appears that she’s the main girl of the three, for the film.

For some reason, it wasn’t easy to find the link to the New Mutants Film Wikipedia page –

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Mutants_(film)

Maybe I clicked the character Magik or the New Mutants comics page was linked and not the film but the film page does exist.  That makes more sense.

Wish Doug was in the film, I’m sure he’ll probably get name checked or have someone make a comment about his existence.  He’s so easy to adapt.

April 13, 2018 is such a long time for that film!

For that Kitty Pryde template, Pete Wisdom really should be added to it.  I’m not sure if I should be the guy to try to figure out how to do it but it isn’t done in a month, I’ll probably take the time to figure out how to add him.  Seems odd to not to include him under Supporting Characters.  Under Publications, should have Mekanix and Shadow and Flame.  Mekanix does have its own page, so that’ll be easy to add but Shadow and Flame doesn’t – as far as I can tell.  Does adding those two items to the template, automatically puts the template on those two pages?  I’ll try to figure that out, too.  I imagine they do sync together, eventually.

Poor Pete isn’t even listed on the Excalibur Template!  That’s just bonkers!

I guess they don’t sync as Lockheed is clearly listed on the Kitty Pryde template and the Excalibur template but neither one is on his proper page.

I’m confronted with the thought about wanting to add Rachel and Magik to her Supporting Characters list but then does one add Kurt?  Criminy!  Lockheed isn’t listed as a supporting character of her’s.  It must be a brand new template.

If I knew how to do it from the very beginning, I would create that Shadow and Flame miniseries page on Wikipedia too, but that takes a bunch of work that I’m not sure I can commit too.  But now that it is an idea in my head, I might end up trying to do it.  Can’t be that hard to do.  At least, I can create the frame of it and see how much more detailed I can make it.  It just has to be the same quality that Mekanix was.

Wolverine : First Class would be another swell publication addition.

She should probably also get a Creators line too, like how the X-Men have that.  Gosh, I guess I might end up updating all of this onto her template, but I’ll let the idea rattle around so that if I do attempt to tackle it, I do it properly.

Sawyer Brown – Another Side

Posted by John Klein III on July 10, 2017

Thanks to YouTuber Sawyer Brown for hosting their own video!

This is one of those music videos, that for whatever reason, I can’t stop thinking about.  My main problem, is that I keep forgetting the band and I have to Google “90s country music video civil war” which is rarely any help.  Then one day, the name – Sawyer Brown – popped into my head and now I’m doing this post.

Turtle Soup Episode 154

Posted by John Klein III on July 7, 2017
Posted in: Podcasts. Tagged: I Ship It, TMNT, Turtle Soup. Leave a comment

http://turtlesoupshow.com/episode-154-years-or-minutes/

Ryan and Eric read my third e-mail on the show.  They released episode 155 before I had a chance to even write this, that’s what I call some Instant Soup!

The e-mail and the following discussion happen between the 13 and 19 minute marks of the episode.  I notice they added links to their bands and I really like that inclusion as it would have helped me subscribing to their bands a month earlier on BandCamp.  Instead, I had to simply ask them or remember their band names – which wasn’t all that hard.

The bands are :

Lesbian Earmuffs

The Paperback Whale

Amazing & Thank You

OfTheClanMcLoud

They often end an episode with one of the songs they have created and I have enjoyed the ones I have listen to and have started the albums over at BandCamp and let the songs all played.

I really enjoyed their mocking of other podcasts doing commercials for products like Blue Apron.  Especially as I’m wrapping up Undisclosed Season Two, with Joey Watkins case, and Blue Apron is their most delicious sponsor.  So I’ve heard ads for Blue Apron so much in the past few months.  To the point, where I’ve been tempted to try out their service but I know I couldn’t commit to the service so I haven’t been tempted to tease myself with their quality food service.

Ryan also recommends to Eric to give Riverdale’s first season a try – a recommendation I fully support!  Ryan was on episode four, on Netflix, when he made the recommendation.  Which is pretty much the episode I was on when I started telling my wife that she should give the show a chance.  It is teen melodrama but it is such good melodrama.  There were times, later in the season, when I had to ask myself “Self, do you like this show for the show or would you still watch this show even if the names of the characters were different?”  Which, honestly, I’m not sure I would have started the show, if it wasn’t for it being an adaption of Archie Comics, as I barely can finish the pilot to Crazy Ex-Girlfriend in under a week.  It takes me twenty minutes at a time, to just watch an hour of television on my own.  That’s what having a cute three year old son does to me.  Or trying to squeeze in the shows my wife and I watch together.  If I had a working Kindle Fire, I could maybe watching a show after my job at Shopko on weeknights.  But I’m probably a month away from getting a replacement one of those.  Probably two months away, most likely.

The CW and CW Seed are both great apps to download, there is no signing up nor subscription service, which I really like.  They don’t even add additional ad breaks, which is nice.  If you do download the CW Seed app, I can’t recommend I Ship It enough, ten episodes, most are around ten minutes each (some shorter, some longer).

http://www.cwseed.com/shows/i-ship-it/episode-1/?play=9f4565fe-4b2c-4e62-b3ab-8eeee9d38851

I’m super excited that a second season is now in the works too.  I wish the songs were on YouTube, as I have to go to SoundCloud and rehear the songs there.  If my phone would allow me to have more apps on it, I would keep the CW Seed on there and go to the show proper, instead, I have to use SoundCloud to relive great songs like “Even Superman Had A Day Job” and “Going On An Adventure” but honestly, I just choose Even Superman Had A Day Job and listen to all the songs – they are all winners.  The shows don’t load on my phone, but on the computer, you can click on the link and start enjoying it.  I Ship It is created by the amazing Yulin Kuang.    I Ship It started off as a webvideo before being picked up as an original webseries.

The pilot and the series don’t have anything in common except for nerd rock, which I wouldn’t mind hearing more songs with references to the things I like.  Which the Turtle Soup guys also include sweet references to things I enjoy in their songs, so it all comes together too.

I really need to watch more of Yulin Kuang’s webvideos on YouTube.  The only one I have seen thus far is, Perils of Growing Up Flat-Chested –

as it stars Irene Choi, who plays Asian Annie (or Annie Kim) from Community.  There is just something about teenage angst and drama that I’m a sucker for.  Maybe because I didn’t really have any or that much in comparison to my peers but I’m a sucker for watching it play out in front of me on television, film and now, online.

Thanks to Yulin Kuang for hosting both of the above videos.

oh, and the CW Seed also now has Ioan Gruffudd’s (who I will always think of him as my Reed Richards – not great films but he was amazing as Mister Fantastic) Forever on it.  A show that I really enjoyed and wanted a second season but ABC denied us of that.  Constantine is also on there, a show I wished was better, but him being in the fourth season episode “Haunted” of Arrow,  was pretty awesome.  I get why his show was cancelled, it being on NBC was an odd choice to begin with, but the character as portrayed by Matt Ryan, deserved to get a second chance.

Lila McCann – Come A Littler Closer

Posted by John Klein III on July 5, 2017
Posted in: Fun With YouTube, Songs. Tagged: Music, YouTube. Leave a comment

Thanks to YouTuber Khaled Sahraoui for hosting this video!

Back in the 90s, I was way into Country music – I still say 90s Country is my favorite era for the genre.  Which I know I will get some flack for as it was the beginning of Pop’s influence on Country but that’s what got me to take notice of them.

So, as I often do, I felt the need to take a side in LeAnn Rimes and Lila McCann.  I chose Lila McCann, not the first nor the last time, that I would chose the least popular option but I really like McCann.

My problem, over the years, is that I forget her name or I quasi-remember the song titles and have to attempt to find one and then the other, it isn’t great.  So I’m making this post so that I can find it easily.

Thanks to YouTuber KatyPerryVEVO

I’m a very big fan of Sara Bareilles and Brave came out before Roar, by like, weeks.  Once Roar was released, and really, only the opening notes are similiar – I was and still am, super disappointed when Roar airs.  Of course, Katy Perry is the more famous of the two ladies, so her song is played more.  At least, it was back in 2014, just the other day, Brave came on the radio and that was awesome.

Barenaked Ladies

I’ve been really getting back into Barenaked Ladies, one of my wife’s favorite bands. I keep coming back to

Thanks to YouTuber SonyPicsHomeEntNL for hosting the video.

This is from episode 2×15 – Early 21st Century Romanticism

Now that Walker Dennis is in my life, I have been on a quest to find songs for him.  The Barenaked Ladies were nice enough to release a Children’s CD – Snacktime!  They only made a few official videos for it.

7 8 9 being the best

Thanks to YouTuber NetwerkMusic for hosting the video.

Thanks to YouTube, and their suggesting various videos – I have discovered Ed Robertson’s Bathroom Sessions.

The best song, and it will tear me up everytime is . . . Things

Thanks to YouTuber Barenaked Ladies (official) for hosting the video.  It is only 47 seconds long but I simply love the lyrics –

There are things that make me mad
You are not one of them
There are things that make me sad
But you are not one of them

There are things that make me, dad
You seem to be all of them

Thanks to MetroLyrics for having the lyrics.  I like to sing it to my son, from time to time.

Raisins is also a fun song

Another Barenaked Ladies official hosting.

YouTuber Warner Bros. Records hosts several of their hit official videos

One Week

A song that references both Aquaman and Sailor Moon, who could have helped not becoming a fan back in the 90s of this Canadian indie rock band with their two Billboard Awards.

The Old Apartment

When my wife and I graduated from NAU-Yuma, my graduation present to her was tickets to see BNL in Phoenix, which was pretty fun.

Be My Yoko Ono

Brian Wilson

I should mention that they do the theme song for Big Bang Theory – which has way too many DC references for me – but that makes sense as Warner Brothers produces it.

. . .

Happy Birthday to my beautiful wife!

Revolution Saints – Turn Back Time

Thanks to YouTuber Frontiers Music srl for hosting the video

I love how 80s this song is!  It was also played pretty regularly at Hastings

After looking into it, the reason why the song feels like such a throwback is because this back is a super group.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revolution_Saints

The group consists of –

Jack Blades of Night Ranger, Damn Yankees and Shaw Blades

Deen Castronovo of Journey, Ozzy Osbourne, Bad English and Hardline

Doug Aldrich of Whitesnake, Dio, Lion, Bad Moon Rising and Burning Rain

So that’s pretty cool.  Another cool thing is that this band as a drummer who is also the lead singer.  How many bands have that?  I can only think of five.

Band – Levon Helm
Carpenters – Karen Carpenters
Eagles – Don Henley
Genesis – Phil Collins
Monkees – Micky Dolenz

Unless you don’t consider Micky the lead of the Monkees, I can understand if you believe Davy Jones was the lead or the face of the group.  I’m willing to go with them both being co-leads.

Thanks to YouTuber In The Backyard for hosting the video.

This is another song that Hastings played on a regular loop.  I just really like this song.  The video isn’t the one that they played, but that’s okay.

Midnight Clear – You Should Have

Thanks to YouTuber HouseOfChtchon for hosting this video!

So, back in 2007, Midnight Clear won CBS’ Early Show’s Living Room . . . LIVE! contest.  The winning group, Midnight Clear, performed the song and from time to time, I still remember it.

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/living-room-live-battle-of-the-bands/

In trying to re-figure out, which band it was – I recalled the contest name, the network and the word “Midnight” was in their band name.

Thanks to the above website for the song title.

I really like this song.

I do wonder how I even heard it or watched the video, as I was more of a Today Show fan than any other morning show.
