Echosmith – Cool Kids

Posted by John Klein III on May 1, 2017

I’m becoming addicted to Echosmith’s Cool Kids.  I’m not usually a fan of songs that are mostly just the chorus repeated seven times but I’m obsessed with trying to figure out all of the lyrics.  When I try to listen to the non-chorus parts, I end up just being distracted by the chorus again.  It is very good.

Surprised there are two videos

Latest One –

Original One –

Thanks to Echosmith for hosting both of their own videos.

Now that they are getting popular, they got to make another video, as the other one must have been made last year.

Bright is also a great song

At first, I thought it was a new Taylor Swift song which is silly.

I like Come Together

I wish it was a better Breakfast Club parody but points for the attempt!

Turtle Soup 143

http://turtlesoupshow.com/episode-143-thats-how-you-get-demons/

It has taken me a little before Halloween 2016 to finally catch up to the episode where Ryan and Eric read my first e-mail that I sent to the show!  That takes place and the discussion thereafter from 2:51:11 to 2:59:00.

I haven’t bought a comic in like six months, and in those early days, I was really getting back into the Ninja Turtles and was directed to this amazing podcast.

I’m so close to the current episode, 150, which I’m going to miss not just living in this world of Turtle Soup, after listening for so long.

Similiar Songs : ET & All The Things She Said

When Katy Perry released (with Kayne West) her song E.T., her first song I didn’t care for :

Thanks to KatyPerryVEVO for hosting the video.

I thought the music sounded super similar to :

t.A.T.u’s All The Things She Said

Thanks to tATuVEVO for hosting the video.

I gave my wife like a thirty minute back massage while forcing her to listen to the two songs back to back.  She thought it only sort of sounded similar but I can’t hear one without thinking of the other.

Do other people’s radio stations do this?  When an artist releases a new song, the radio decides, instead of playing the new song, to play the previous released song or sometimes the song before that.  It would make sense if it was followed by the new song but it never is.

Losin’ It! Part Three of Six

I only own this for the Uncanny X-Men 141 Homage Cover but this should be a fun look back.

The Team of Marvel Database, has a counterpart in the DC Database –

http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Superboy_Vol_4_27

Who I am counting on, for having the right volume number.

I wasn’t following Superboy, at this point, I think I followed the first 12 issues or maybe just six, after Superman came back from the dead.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superboy_(Kon-El)

The cover art team, are the creators of Superboy, that’s pretty awesome.  The only thing I really know about this Superboy, is that he was merged with Ben Reilly’s Spider-Man, to make Amalgam’s Spider-Boy.  Which was awesome.

Inside front cover ad is for The Power of Shazam! who is on a cereal

Superboy has made Hawaii his base.  I imagine he still doesn’t like being called, Superboy – but he may be over that silly characterization.

The Hawaii Police are trying to arrest Knockout, Superboy is with her, so they will have to deal with him, too.  Knockout has apparently killed a fellow police officer.

Superboy, who has a giant sole earring on his left ear.  Oh 90s.  He knocks on the door and Knockout tells him to come inside.  Which he does and sees her, from behind, and she seems to be only wearing a pair of green panties.

There is an ad for Batman Forever, the year’s biggest hit, and now – on Pay Per View!

Knockout puts on her costume, they are partners and shouldn’t have secrets.  She keeps calling him, pup.

There is a knock at the door and Superboy answers it, along with Krypto.  Krypto seems to be a puppy, himself.  The police are at the door, which surprises Superboy.  Snare, one of the female officers – one of the better ones, takes pleasure in trying out her skills against Superboy.  With all of the commotion, Knockout tries to leave out the backdoor.

There is a house ad for Sergio Aragones Destroys DC, which I imagine is a reaction to Fred Hembeck Destroys the Marvel Universe, which I also imagine is way better.

Superboy uses one of his more unique abilities, tactile telekinesis, to thwart Snare’s attempts.  Knockout circles back and starts fighting the officers.  Superboy’s jacket is ruined, in the fight and this annoys him.  One of the officers drops a twist-cannon, which bullets go around Superboy and strikes Knockout, wounding her.l  Now Superboy is full of teenage rage!

Snare throws an anti-gravity bomb at Knockout and this takes her to the ground.  Superboy wasn’t exactly thrilled with how rough Knockout was being with the police – who I imagine are like Marvel’s Code Blue, police force.

Roxy, a friend of SB (as she calls him) tackles Snare, who seems to really want to take down Superboy, for her father.  Maybe.  Snare punches Roxy out, and the lead detective makes Snare sit the fight out, as Roxy is on their side.

Superboy gets the anti-gravity bomb off of Knockout.  Superboy flies Knockout to safety.  This officially makes Superboy wanted by the police.

Later.  Rex Leech, who I believe is actually Superboy’s Public Relations Agent, or something like that.  He’s horrible.

Superboy visits his ex-girlfriend, who is also a reporter – Tana Moon.  Tana tells him about Knockout being wanted for murder.  He suspects this is an elaborate trick.  Tana keeps calling him, kid, and this annoys him.  He tells her that she is jealous of Knockout and flies off in a huff.

Issue ends with Tana reporting the news that Superboy is a fugitive.  Knockout is suspected of killing, Officer Wesley Smithson.  Next up on the news, Hawaiian Chain’s newest island- Loihi, has risen ten thousand years sooner than expected.  That can’t tie in to the main plot, right?

Letters Page – Kid Stuff – has letters from – Neil Ahlquist of Minneapolis, MN / Bob Kowalski of Detroit, MI / Nick Robichaud of Bedord , MA and Rick Fimple of Vaancouver, WA.

Next issue caption box states that Supergirl will be showing up.

Inside back cover ad is for Batman Black and White, an awesome anthology series!

Not a horrible issue, I expected to be confused as this was the middle chapter of a storyline but it was written very new reader friendly.

Official Index to the Marvel Universe 10

Head Writer / Coordinators Stuart Vandal & Al Sjoerdsma

Writers Chris Buchner, Robert J. Sodaro, Michael Hoskin, Daron Jensen, Ronald Byrd, Eric Moreels, Jacob Rougermont, Chris Biggs and Jeph York

Cover Dated 2009

The issues covered are –

Amazing Spider-Man 402 – 435
Iron Man 8 – 13 and Heroes Return Iron Man 1 – 35
Uncanny X-Men 376 – 412

Spider-Man covers from June 1995 through June 1998

Iron Man covers June 1997 through December 2000

Uncanny X-Men covers January 2000 through November 2002

Amazing Spider-Man is still in the midst of the Clone Saga, and I was still loving it.  Spider-Man : Maximum Clonage Alpha & Omega are covered,Amazing Scarlet Spider 1 & 2, Amazing Spider-Man Annual 1996 and Ben Reilly becomes Spider-Man.  Which felt longer but only lasted from 407 through 418.  Amazing Spider-Man Annual 1997 is also covered, as is the Minus One issue.  Spider-Man ends with the Identity Crisis storyline.

Iron Man gets to be written by the Legend That Lives, Kurt Busiek!  Iron Man / Captain America Annual 1998 is covered and Annual 1999.  Also the Wizard 1/2 issue.  Joe Quesada’s excellent, Mask in the Iron Man, is reviewed.  Probably still my favorite Iron Man story, and could easily be adapted to a film.  Annual 2000 is the last annual reviewed in this issue.

Uncanny X-Men have the Apocalypse The Twelve and Ages of Apocalypse storylines.  Annual 1999.  Kitty’s final issue is 380, then Revelations kicked in, which was Claremont’s big return to the X-Men.  Kitty was moved over to X-Men 100 and then, hinted at in 109 and seen in 110.  The First X-Men film came out but the books don’t try to tie in with the film.  Dream’s End kicks off in 388, which will cost us Moira MacTagert and Senator Kelly.  Uncanny X-Men 2000.  Then, one of my favorite issues of Uncanny, of all time – Uncanny X-Men 390 – The Death of Colossus, it was so super sweet!  391 is also great, with Scott and his father going camping together.  Eve of Destruction follows that and next, Grant Morrison takes over (New) X-Men and Joe Casey gets Uncanny.  Chuck Austen takes the title, starting with 410.

There are fourteen issues of this series but I think I got the four that I wanted.

Fall of the New Mutants Part Three of Five

Inside front cover ad is for ABC’s No Ordinary Family, that I really enjoyed, especially with the two Kitty Pryde references that they made!

New Mutants V3 17 Recap Page

It took me forever to find this link –

http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=preview&id=6356

Lots of Google searches!

This will be my last New Mutants review, for a while.  This storyline was the New Mutants portion of the fallout from Second Comings.  At the end of that crossover, Magik was sent to Limbo – against her will and she barely escaped.

In order to relax, Cannonball took the team out to the desert to relax.  General Ulysses and his squad have also finally come out of Limbo, after being in there for twenty six years.  They were not alone, the babies from Inferno, now grown adults, are with them – and all of them have a special power of their own.  This group, Project Purgatory, has captured Pixie.

Three Hours Ago.  Dani and Sam are having some drinks.  Sam is claiming that Lila Cheney, the rock goddess, was not a good kisser.  Dani claims that maybe it was Sam that wasn’t the good kisser.  Then we get the moment that was twenty seven years in the making!  Dani and Sam make out!

New Mutants V3 17 Magik 1

Amara, as she is the worst, breaks up the kissing.  Illyana’s soulsword goes wild and Illyana’s goat legs come out!  Which is always a good time!  Usually, for nobody but maybe for the readers as things always get exciting, once the goat legs come out.  Illyana knows that Pixie has been captured.

New Mutants V3 17 Magik 2

Look how amazing that page is!  Kirk outdid himself!  The entire art team did!

New Mutants V3 17 Magik 3

Illyana starts talking like a character of old.  There is no time to inform the X-Men.  That is, until Warlock starts crying and Magik chooses to both – cut the lame characters and inform the X-Men, at the same time.  Warlock had a bad influence on the demons of Limbo, a long time ago, and he really shouldn’t be there.

Sam, the idiot, tries to tell Magik that he is in charge.  Not where they are going, which is awesome!

This storyline, has been what Wells has been leading up to, since the first issue.

Cannonball does not want to be in Limbo.  Poor Cannonball, doesn’t he know that the New Mutants have three storylines that they MUST repeat!  Limbo, David Haller and Asgard – with maybe a Hellions story in there, when they were not dead.  Oh, and the Demon Bear.  They have five stories that get recycled.

Sam huffs his way to Magik but demons stand between him and her, one does not speak harshly to the Queen, in her own domain.

New Mutants V3 17 Magik 4

Cannonball really continues to misread the situation.  The demons of Limbo are Magik’s subordinates, not her friends.

Magma wants to skip the next silly dialogue exchanges and wants to know what the plan is.  Magik explains that, soon, Pixie’s soulgem will be taken and the Bloodstone Amulet will be complete.  Which I’m not sure in thirty years, has ever happened, but we have always been told that nothing good will ever come of it.  Magik further explains that, on Earth, there is only one more hour to get prepared but in Limbo, they have weeks to prepare – for war!

We get implications that this storyline is when Magik left, from the first issue.  Originally, Sam lead his team, straight to their deaths.  Magik wants to keep them safe, and out of the action.

Magik doesn’t know where Pixie is, but her horde of demons can take them to someone who does know.  Magik is hoping, that her being in Limbo, will bring out her enemies.

Project Purgatory.  They know that Magik is in Limbo.  The Inferno Babies are ready for a massive battle.

The New Mutants get to a village, it has taken them two weeks to get there so almost a full hour on Earth, must have passed.

I like how, up to this point, Magik and the demons have been speaking in a foreign tongue – but only now does Doug feel the need to decipher the language, out-loud.  I’m sure Illyana would have told them, if they asked.  Maybe, in those two weeks, Doug finally got a handle on the language.

The horde brings out Witchfire – the main villain of X-Infernus.

New Mutants V3 17 Magik 5

Witchfire gave the soldiers the bloodstone amulet, but not quite as willingly as Magik implies.  Either way, her weakness has brought Limbo into chaos.  More chaos.  Witchfire offers the helpful advice, that if they follow the blood soaked roads, they will find the soldiers.  Magik is tired of her, and tells her demons to make Witchfire suffer.

Project Purgatory.  They have a plan to use Pixie’s gem to get access to the full power of her soul.

There is an ad for Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions, such a great game!  I could have used more of the Spider-Man Noir levels.

New Mutants V3 17 Magik 6

Two Weeks Later, so four total.  The team has made it to Project Purgatory’s base in Limbo, but the soldiers are not there.  The soldiers have lost their access to Limbo, and are having to find a second way back.  They went through a portal in the desert, and Magik knows where they must have done it, so they ride again.

Project Purgatory.  General Ulysses is losing his mind, well, more of it.  Just then, a doorway to Limbo opens.

New York Comic Con 2010 Spider-Man Romitas

There is an ad for New York Comic Con, 2010 by both Romita Legends.  I love the Romitas BUT what the hell is going on there with Spider-Man?  Both of his arms look like they are disconnected!

New Mutants V3 17 Magik 7

Look how battle worn the New Mutants look!  And they haven’t even fought anyone yet, they have been merely surviving in Limbo for a month.  Illyana is angry and wants Pixie back.  Some of the soldiers are not thrilled that the white devil has come into their home.

The Inferno Babies get the first attack.  The leader of the Inferno Babies tells, Toko, to get Illyana’s soulsword.

There is a house ad for Thor 615 by Matt Fraction and Pasqual Ferry.

Illyana’s swordsoul doesn’t even pass through Toko and she knocks the sword out of Magik’s hand, which gets her off her guard.  The leader gets four hits later and Illyana is down.

New Mutants V3 17 Magik 8

Issue ends with the Inferno Babies about to turn their attention to the New Mutants.

There is a house ad for the Wolverine Goes to Hell storyline.  Wolverine 1, X23 1 and Daken, Dark Wolverine 1 – are the new titles.

The back cover ad is for the Mazda 3, looks like they are still making 3s but they aslo had a 6, which I found with a simple Google search and I’m not sure if that means anything.

.  .  .

Happy Easter!!!

Necrosha, New Mutants Part One of Three

I own the other chapters but only reviewing this one, at this time.

Inside front cover ad is for the Nissan Shift.

New Mutants V3 6 Recap Page

In issue five, Warlock return!  He came back to Westchester, saw that the school was destroyed as well as Doug Ramsey’s grave was empty.  Doug is alive, technically, due to Selene’s Necrosha scheme.  She has him going to Utopia, to kill her granddaughter (for the moment), Magma.

Utopia.  Island Nation of Mutantkind.  Danger is instructing Xavier to not visit his son, David Haller, just yet. Xavier has never been a calming force in young David’s life.

New Mutants V3 6 Magik 1

Xavier is visited by his third class of students.

New Mutants V3 6 Magik 2

Oh Xavier, can never pass up a “to me, my X-Men” line.  All of the New Mutants are happy to see their original professor – except for Magik.

Also, we get our first exposure to Doug’s new running commentary.  He sees all movement as language, and his thoughts are binary.

New Mutants V3 6 Magik 3

Xavier and Illyana exchange a cold greeting.  Sunspot tries to assure Xavier that it is mostly from her end.  Xavier is amused by their new uniforms.

I bet Xavier wishes he could speak longer with Karma.

All of these new sensations, as Doug has received a major power upgrade – but still an extension of his original powers.

There is an ad for Halo 3 ODST.

Later.  The team has gone to their giant room that houses them.  Sunspot hits on Magma and she shoots him a dirty look.  Cannonball rushes in to stop her and defend her.  Once in her room, Amara smiles – she likes the attention but not the guy, as who could enjoy Bobby’s company.  Amara also doesn’t appreciate Doug’s arrive or company, as he beats her with a baseball bat.

New Mutants V3 6 Magik 4

I like how Illyana was just enjoying a refreshing beverage, when Doug ruins everybody’s night.

The poor team’s mindspace, happy to see their fallen friend BUT he is holding Amara by her hair.  New Mutants 60, came out in February 1988 and this issue came out in December 2009, just over 21 years (our time).  Which is a long long time.

New Mutants V3 6 Magik 5

I like looking at those top two panels.  I’m not sure how Dani and Karma swapped positions but I like how fast everybody gets battle ready.  Doug’s eyes turn red and. IT. IS. ON!  Doug takes out the entire team!  He takes out Illyana with a nasty upper cut!

Doug starts a monologue, which gives Karma a chance to possess the team, which makes their movements sluggish, so the team is able to turn the tide.

Doug falls out of the window and onto the balcony below.

New Mutants V3 6 Magik 6

Sunspot checks on Magma, who is bleeding so much!  Something is picking up Doug, outside.

There is a house ad for Psylcoke’s miniseries by Chris Yost and Harvey Toubao – I haven’t heard anything about it, so I imagine it is passable.  I’m also not sure what she is seeking her revenge on.

The person is Warlock!  Warlock is angry as his friends are attacking his truefriend Doug!

There is an house ad for Thor 604, Doctor Doom Shall Know His Fury by Kieron Gillen, Billy Tan and Batt.

New Mutants V3 6 Magik 7

Cannonball tries to tell Warlock, what is up but he only wants to help his truefriend.  The Necrosha virus is too powerful and overwhelms Warlock.

New Mutants V3 6 Magik 8

Unfortunately, that is all the hesitation Doug needs and his FREAKING RIPS OFF WARLOCK’S HEAD!!!  Warlock’s tears are for real!

I will review the other parts, someday but the next issue will be New Mutants 17.  Get excited!

The back cover ad is for the Kia Soul.

Return of the Legion, Part Four of Five

New Mutants V3 4 Recap

Skipping the next two chapters, from the recap page – the only thing that seems like we missed, is that Magik has entered David Haller’s mind as he goes after Dani.

Cannonball tells the still present members of the team – Magma, Dani and Sunspot – what is up.  Cyclops and a team of X-Men are on their way, and David is heading towards them, as well.  He wants the team to use codenames, now that the battle is in full swing.  He wants Sunspot to be on the lookout.  He wants Magma in her fiery mode, as David shouldn’t be actively seeking out a fight with someone who’s skin is as hot as lava.  He tells Dani to get out of there, as she is the main target.  He tells her, and a car just shows up, which is weird.  It must be remote controlled.  Dani puts up a fight, since she doesn’t have any powers, Sam is trying to protect her – which annoys her.

New Mutants V3 4 Magik 1

What is going with David is this, since David isn’t steering his own body – his multiple personalities are taking the reins.  They are doing with, by holding onto a teddy bear, that belongs to Marci.  There are personalities inside of his head, but there are three people who are also in there – Marci, Dani and Magik.

Each personality has a specific power.  The guy holding the teddy bear, now, has X-Ray vision and can see the New Mutants.

New Mutants V3 4 Magik 2

Magik wants to know where Karma is, but no one is telling her.  Illyana does what she do and starts slashing (killing) personalities.  Which is pretty intense, but it has to be helping David, in the long run – right?

Some idiot personality thinks Illyana won’t keeping going.

New Mutants V3 4 Magik 3

He is wrong about that!  After doing that, the personalities part so that she can find Shan.

Outside, David starts making his way towards the team.  The X-Ray vision jerk looked at Magma, naked.  That isn’t right!  The next personality has super speed and speed punches Sunspot.  He follows that up by grabbing some shrapnel and slices Sunspot’s stomach.  Who knows how rusty that piece of metal is!?!

The ground starts to melt around David.

There is an ad for the Nissan Shift.

New Mutants V3 4 Magik 4

Illyana gets to a dome with three doors.  She breaks the lock and finally is reunited with both Marci and Shan.

New Mutants V3 4 Magik 5

I like how compassionate Illyana is, when she finally lays eyes on her friend.  Poor Shan, has clearly been beaten up.  Marci points Illyana in the direction that, Davey, is in.

Outside.  Magma starts choking David’s throat but a new personality kicks in that is heat resistant.  he goes as far as to make Amara feel cold – super cold.

Cannonball arrives and fly punches David through a wall.

There is a double page ad for Ultimate Alliance 2, which was pretty disappointing but I wish we had gotten an X-Men Legend 3 – instead of them expanding to the Marvel Universe – but the first game was pretty fun.  My favorite will always be X-Men Legends 2.

New Mutants V3 4 Magik 6

Illyana slices another lock and finds David’s true personality.  I take it, that this is Shan’s first time seeing David, proper.  David knows that the shit has been flying.

New Mutants V3 4 Magik 7

David, was seeking help, that is why he wanted Dani.  Marci tries to comfort her friend, Davey, she also tells him that her doll has been taken.  Shan explains the importance of the doll, to Illyana.  Marci reveals the name of the doll is – Morrie.  David corrects her, it is Moira – which is nice, his teacher and friend.  They all exit the dome and Illyana demands the doll.

Outside, another personality takes over.  He puts his fingers into Sam’s face, which can’t feel good.

A wolf personality takes over, after a healer heals them – costing 4 MP.  The wolf is about to bite Sam’s throat, when Dani drives right into the wolf and into a wall.  The wolf gets up and attempts to attack Dani but she stabs a knife into the wolf’s leg.  One does not mess with Dani!  This, unfortunately, does not slow him down and he goes after her.

New Mutants V3 4 Magik 8

Before any additional damage can be done, Illyana has found the doll and is the main personality in charge.  I like how whoever holds the doll, their voice kicks in – it doesn’t quite work in comics – so people have to announce who they hear.  Dani recognizes Illyana’s voice and knows that everything is okay now.

Later.  Emma Frost, and some others, I imagine – arrive on the scene.  We get the impression that Emma has started the mind wiping of the town.  Sunspot is getting medical treatment and Magma has a blanket over her.  Madison Jeffries places a helmet over David’s head, to calm him down.

Dani’s right leg is in a brace as is Sam’s left arm.

Issue ends with Sam confiding with Scott.  Most of his team hates him, and the others are hurt.  Sam goes as far as to claim that a few of them believe they can do a better job at leading than he can.  Scott, ending the issue on a light note, states that Sam is now experiencing what he has to deal with, all of the time.

Next issue promises to have Warlock’s return but I’m planning on skipping that issue and reviewing issue six – relatively soon, as that’s the issue I got for Father’s Day 2015.

Inside back cover is an ad for the incredible – Batman Arkham Asylum game.  Go out and play it, RIGHT NOW!

Thanks to Youtuber WalkTheMoonVEVO for hosting the video!

The actress in this video is Lauren Taft, and like her, this video is super fun.  I love how much of a throw back to the 80s the video and the song is.  Such a fun time, listening to this!
