In 2005, we were treated to the perfect casting of Ioan Gruffudd as Reed Richards. If you ever get a chance to watch ABC’s Forever, I would highly recommend in it as he is terrific in it.
In the 2005 film, Reed and Sue – played rather well by Jessica Alba, are having a conversation in a deleted scene.
Thanks to YouTuber NewSuperAvenger for hosting the video. I was trying to find the entire scene but I couldn’t on YouTube.
Reed shifts his face so that he resembles Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. In my memory, they CGIed (?) Hugh’s face over Ioan’s but it is Ioan’s face with the Wolverine hair and mutton chops.
Thanks to YouTuber Stardust for hosting the video.
I thought there were three songs from the first Fantastic Four soundtrack. I recall the film having a decent soundtrack (we played it quite often at Hastings).
Velvet Revolver was Slash’s other big band. I’ve always been a huge fan of Slash, especially when he was on Conan O’Brien.
He did a Secrets segment on Conan that was so funny! I can’t find his solo one but here is a video with one of his –
Thanks to YouTuber HyperTransience for hosting the video!
I wish the Axl Rose is a sexual anagram, had made the cut.
Nice, I found a website that has all of Slash’s secrets –
SLASH SECRETS
“I got into rock-and-roll because I wanted the chicks. The Dixie Chicks.”
“I got the name Slash because I used to work in a grocery store and I was in charge of reducing prices for really big sales.”
“One time we played a concert in Antwerp, Belgium. At least I thought it was Antwerp, Belgium. Turns out it was a Stop ‘n Shop in Wisconsin somewhere, but it was fun man.”
“If I ever go bald, I’ll kill myself.”
“The original name for Guns ‘n Roses was Roses ‘n Guns, but that just sounded stupid.”
“I once asked Axl why he left the ‘E’ off his name. He started crying and said he thought he’d spelled it right.”
“Almost every night I have a dream where one of my pet snakes eats all those boys in Hanson.”
“Someone once asked me what I liked better-kittens or puppies. And I said “‘It’s a tie man.’ They said- ‘Too close to call?’ I said, ‘No, man, too cute to call.'”
“My original nickname was ‘Splash’ because I loved that movie so much.”
“I guess you could say there are two Slashes. There’s the crazy, rock-and-roll Slash, he’s wild. And then there’s the real Slash- he collects miniature soaps and treats his hookers real nice.”
“An anagram of Axl Rose is oral sex. Why do I know? Because when I’m not playing music I love solving erotic jumbles.”
“Originally, I wanted to call the band ‘Guns ‘n Robots.’ I still believe that if we had just called ourselves ‘Guns ‘n Robots’ we’d still be together.”
Thanks for compiling these, ReddDragon!
One sad note, with the Secrets, was back in the Joe Quesada Message Board days, we were talking about our favorite Secrets, and the very next day, John Ritter died. He had such a great segment!
Thanks to Mrsilenciobackgammon for hosting the video!
The other music video released for the Fantastic Four soundtrack was –
Everything Burns, by Anastacia featuring Bed Moody
Thanks to markjohn1987 for hosting this video!
Though this song seems to have inspired –
Ellie Goulding’s Burn Burn Burn
Thanks to YouTuber EllieGouldingVEVO for hosting her own video.
It is like the exactly same song!
I do like how the music videos do make it seem like the first Fantastic Four film, was going to be pretty good.
Sort of like how Seal’s Kiss from a Rose, makes Batman Forever look like a good film
Thanks to IntheBeginning for hosting the video.
These films really do benefit from being condensed to three minute commercials with a pop song.
We conclude the mini-Mike Carey event with this issue!
So great that Ultimate Shadowcat was already becoming one of the main X-characters at this point.
She makes her appearance last issue but she is the main threat to both issues here so I finally looked Rhonda Burcill, who is the Ultimate version of Thinker – hence why she has Awesome Andy – who she calls, Robby, which is obviously a nickname off of Robot. One would think a super genius would have a bigger name for such things. She originally appeared in Ultimate Fantastic Four 19 and 20, which were also written by Mike Carey. So now that we know that, we should be able to enjoy the issue properly.
I’m not sure what happened to me when I first read these issues but I remember not liking them and feeling like I was missing so much or that the issues were confusing. I probably just read them too quickly, or something. Maybe even alphabetical order? That could have been the case.
Issue opens with Yu art, as we see the X-Men realizing they have been had.
Baxter Building, New York. Reed is being mentally teased by Miss Rhona Burchill. She starts mentally taking down guards.
Wolverine gets back on his feet and fights Thing.
Wolverine gets a bit of an advantage over Thing. Then embarrassingly takes taken out by his own flu. I like having some fun with Wolverine, he’s a character that can easily kill everyone in the next room, so you can put him in silly situations like this as it won’t damage him at all.
That is a great look between Ben and Reed.
Reed, smartly, wants to make a truce and goes directly to Shadowcat, the only brain the X-Men have.
Rhona starts going a tad insane with having so much mental powers so quickly. She’s smart, so she has a decent grasp on her new powers.
Reed is impress with what Xavier and Magneto was able to build, which they really don’t get enough create for all of their gadget creations. Sure, Cerebro gets mention but they had to build fancy planes and uniforms. Heck, even the Danger Room had to be designed and programmed.
We learn that the X-Men uniforms block themselves from Sentinel scanners, which is handy.
Shadowcat asks if Reed ever had a girlfriend, she probably just feels like it is nice to talk to a guy who doesn’t try to make fart noises with his own mouth after the first three minutes of meeting him.
I still prefer Shadowcat with Spider-Man but I wouldn’t have minded Shadowcat dating Reed, though he turn out to be a horrible person later – from what I’ve read about and seen in Cataclysm. Plus, there would be no way for Proper Kitty and Reed to date, so it is fun to wish for Proper Kitty and Spider-Man to date as that is an option.
Reed is stun and doesn’t know how to talk to a woman, romantically, who isn’t Sue. Why would anyone else want to talk to him about such matters? He has no time for that, he only has eyes for Sue.
Reed was able to make Wolverine better but he won’t be at full strength in a while. Shadowcat recognizing him as their heaviest hitter is accurate. Thing might take offense to that but Wolverine has a killer instinct that Grimm doesn’t have.
Johnny can’t figure out why Kitty isn’t talking to him but talks to Reed. Sue isn’t impressed. Their father wants the Ultimates to deal with Rhona.
I was just thinking if this series was to tie into one of the Fantastic Four films but the first one came out in 2005 and the sequel was 2007, so that doesn’t time out.
Reed created refractions shields, so they have a better chance of not succumbing to Rhona’s mental powers. He mentions that Human Torch’s shield only works up to a certain degree, so now we can expect him to get at least as hot as four hundred decrees. Don’t worry, it never becomes an issue. It is only an example of Reed having to tell Johnny what is up.
Since Rhona can control machines, they have to part the Fantasti-car a distance away and walk the rest.
We get the Rivalry of Iceman and Human Torch, which is as natural as sharks and bears being nature’s best friends.
Thanks to YouTuber zombiefeast for hosting the video. I really do miss Space Ghost Coast to Coast. This is from the Kentucky Nightmare episode, Season 7 Episode 1.
Not a fan of Reed calling the team of Shadowcat and Invisible Woman, girls, but that’s Ultimate Reed for you.
Sue and Kitty would be my ultimate heroes turn villains duo, as they could kill people so fast and easily!
Instead, Sue tries to undermine Kitty, probably due to Kitty’s slight interest in Reed.
Shadowcat’s plan is to phase her hands through the electronics and disable them. Sue has a faster plan, to set off miniature force fields, have them expand and take out an entire wall in a few actions.
Which I sort of like a Sue Storm with attitude, something the 60s version wasn’t really allowed to have. She isn’t defined by her gender or who she is with or who she has birthed. I’m sure she is considered the strongest member of the team like her proper version is. She would have to.
There is a two page Daily Bugle styled Bullpen Bulletin. Storm 1 of 6, learn the full story of Ororo’s past. Astonishing X-Men 13, he wait is over and it’s time to rock! Ultimate Fantastic Four 27, featuring Ultimates, and President Thor? X-Men 182, the return of Apocalypse! New Excalibur 4, the team is formed and they’re not happy about it. Uncanny X-Men 469, An X-Man takes teh law into their own tank. Wolverine 39, a deadly showdown with the Winter Soldier! X-Men Deadly Genesis 4 of 6, Professor X’s darkest secret stands revealed before all! New X-Men 23, X-23 must make a difficult choice!
Iceman saves a boy, the boy is under Rhona’s control. Ben and Reed get into the cargo bay. Thing fights Robbie.
Rhona takes control of the two boys and have them fight each other.
Shadowcat tries to sneak attack but is too close to Rhona.
If Shadowcat could have phased her hand, the story would be done.
Rhona takes control of the ladies’ minds. Before she can do anything though, Reed comes busting through the wall.
Thing is under Rhona’s control and starts fighting Reed. Reed takes a page out of Rhona’s book and gives her a adapting virus.
Rhona is escaping while the heroes are regathering their thoughts.
Wolverine has a plan to ensure that they never have to worry about Rhona again. He cut her secondary fuel line, which causes her flying car to explode.
Wolverine tries his best at a lame hero line but I can’t believe everyone just stands around, wiping their hands clean of the situation. Wolverine just straight murdered someone and they just shrug their shoulders. So bizarre!
Baxter Building. The Next Day.
Reed has cleaned up the Cerebro components. Yu has taken over for the issue. Which I wonder why he even did that for? He got to draw only three pages. Was the script not long enough and Carey had to add a few pages? Was Yu just looking for work? The pages are nice but I’m not sure why they switched artists.
He drew the X-Men Away Team page, so maybe Ferry only wanted to do the Fantastic Four pages after having to do all of the X-Men pages in the previous chapter. Is that even a reason?
Lieutenant Lumpkin, that is quite the upgrade from postal carrier, but it could be his son too as he is quite young here. Or it is a familiar last name.
Human Torch tries to hit on Shadowcat, she’s seeing Spider-Man, so why downgrade? As far as I know, he never tries to hit on her again once he is living with Aunt May. We’ll have to pay attention to that once we review those issues.
Wolverine is going to dry the Rolls Royce back to Salem. Jean Grey and the X-Plane fly above them, offering to pick them up but Wolverine wants the drive. Would that plane be able to load the car into it? It seems too sleek for that.
Who goes home? Will we learn who the new HoHs are? Let’s get excited!
Julie Chen implies that Audrey got some heat on Twitter for not showing up. Will she not show up for the live show? At least she didn’t leave early. Who will Production make as their next star?
I need a new website that has screencaps of the episodes or from live feeds.
Julie Chen should just skip Audrey’s exit interview. Honestly, after Week One, I was done with Audrey. She should have just laid low. I wonder if the house can be reunited after she is gone.
Steve comments on how this is historic, the replacement nominee not taking the chair. Audrey will definitely go down as one of the worst Houseguests.
We get confirmation that Audrey was in DR for six hours.
I do like how the houseguests are upset, mostly as Audrey was a waste or a stunt, and Production could have gone with another Transgender, that was willing to play. They will probably try again, in two seasons.
Day 33.
Audrey leaving will be a mercy killing.
James made Audrey an omelet and a glass of Orange Juice! I do like James, I wish his game was better. I also like that Audrey hate it, instead of throwing it ot the ground or some other childish thing.
Audrey goes back into DR! At least we don’t have to deal with her again, after this episode. I take it, that she isn’t talking to Production, or they will be airing those conversations.
BB12’s Britney Haynes! I love her!
Backstreet Boys tweeted about the Whack Street Boys! That’s pretty cool! Live appearance!
We visit Audrey’s family, as Production wants us to not view her as a quitter or as a waste or as a monster.
Audrey has a penalty vote for eating food as a Have Not! For shame!
Audrey promotes her website, but she’s not going to get the visitors that she wants, I bet. She toots her own horn, which is silly.
John uses his speech, to have some laughs. That’s the right tactic. He only shout outs his fellow Whack Street Boyz, which I adore.
I can’t tell what the HoH comp is going to be like, as some are dress fancy and others are casual. Probably a quiz.
The Votes!
Clay – Audrey
James – Audrey
Austin/Judas – John
Jason – Audrey
Vanessa – Audrey
Becky – Audrey
Audrey is officially gone, with six votes!
Jackie – Audrey
Steve – having to wait, he blew a kiss at Jackie! – Audrey
Julia – Audrey – John gave her a massive hug, I love that guy!
Meg – Audrey
Meg’s shirt, she never strikes me as a gal with large breasts but she knows how to dress to draw attention to them.
Audrey got 9 votes to evict, plus one penalty vote. Chenbot didn’t mention the one vote to John. No one is giving Audrey hugs, oh way, Vanessa and Shelli (maybe?) did.
Julie’s interview with Audrey is as expected. All the farewell messages are kind and polite. They don’t want to be seen as Anti-Transgender. Which no one should be, but my opinion of her is based purely on her gameplay.
HoH Comp.
Pop Til You Drop. Two Hougeguests compete, at a time until the winners are chosen.
Round One – Steve v Jason – BoB – Jason
They paid for these songs, so if the player guesses early, Production has to let the song play on.
Round Two – Austin v John – BoB – Austin
Round Three – Becky v Jackie – HoH – Jackie
Round Four – Vanessa v Liz (Julia) – Veto – Vanessa
Commercial!
Round Five – Meg v Jackie – Veto – Jackie wins
Round Six – Austin v James – people laugh as they are drastically different heights. James just presses BoB BUT GETS IT RIGHT! He pressed it as soon as the music started.
Round Eight – James – Jackie – she really wants to be on our right – James did the same thing, press HoH first – got it wrong – BoB – Jackie gets HoH on a technicality!
Round Nine – Vanessa v Jason – one will be HoH – Veto – Vanessa wins!
winner gets to chose the next two to play.
HoH and it sounds like we end on Britney Haynes!
Jackie and Vanessa (for the second time) are the new Heads of Household! Should be drama free, I imagine.
Britney looks great! She has two daughters. The photos online are not from great angles.
Britney likes Jason and Vanessa, she also likes Johnny Mac. She really likes this season. That makes me like this season more. Britney thinks half of Shelli /Clay should make it to the end, a floater (like Jackie) could be at the end and Vanessa too.
Sunday – Nominations
Wednesday – Veto
Thursday – Eviction – if Liz can stay in the house, Julia gets to enter the house, as well.
. . .
Thanks to Big Brother Network for hosting these images of Britney Haynes!
The always amazing, Michelle Pfeiffer, is referenced in two songs – though she ought to be in more!
Vance Joy’s Riptide
Thanks to LiberationMusicAus for hosting the video!
I really like how this song is essentially just all of the lyrics, brought to live.
“I swear she’s destined for the screen, Closest thing to Michelle Pfeiffer that you’ve ever seen”
The other song is :
Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars’ Uptown Funk
Thanks to MarkRonsonVEVO for hosting this video!
I’m not a huge Bruno Mars fan, the radio overplays him. I was thinking about how he was due for another single but now that he has a shared one, with Mark Ronson, I’m already over this song. But I do like hearing Michelle Pfeiffer’s name being sung.
“That ice cold, Michelle Pfeiffer, That white gold”
I mean, seriously, after her star making performance in Grease 2 and the way she performed Cool Rider, she deserves to be immortalized in song.
Thanks to YouTuber videomolly for hosting this video!
Ben Affleck to co-write (with Geoff Johns), direct and – naturally – star in the next solo Batman film, which would come out before the first Justice League film. Which I’m all for, and I can only imagine, was discussed prior to him signing his original contract.
Halle Berry would jump at another chance to be Storm. Which I wouldn’t mind a solo Storm film, as long as it was both good and maybe featured another mutant character, maybe a best friend type of character that was younger than her. perhaps.
The Ninja Turtles are coming to Gotham! The Ninja Turtles / Ghostbusters crossover was pretty great. The 80s Ghostbusters / today’s Ghostbusters crossover was also pretty great.
Something to make Uncanny X-Cast listener, CosmicTimes, happy –
ROM and the Mirconauts are coming to . . . IDW! Too bad Marvel-Disney couldn’t just buy the rights. Then they could start reprinting ROM appearances again.
Saturday, which makes sense, things started getting really good.
I’m not a fan of the Newsarama does their coverage, it just doesn’t load right for me.
Not much revealed at the Cup of Joe panel. I did learn that Hank Pym merged with Ultron, so that’s something. The All New All Different Avengers are suppose to have the feel of Claremont / Byrne / Austin X-Men, lots of character interactions and epic adventures. Time will tell. There will be an Avengers Zero issue that should set up that line.
New Batman v Superman trailer! It looks like a real movie now!
Thanks to Warner Bros. Pictures for hosting their video.
I found the Warner Brothers Panel! (minus the cool clips, of course)
Thanks to YouTuber moviemaniacsDE for hosting the video!
I could listen to Affleck tell Bale stories, all day!
I didn’t even know that Jeremy Irons was going to be in this AND he’s Alfred, that’s pretty awesome. Amy Adams, being in this, makes sense but it felt new too. I couldn’t make out the “red capes are coming” until I turned the volume way up. Krytonite, is in there. Bruce Wayne being in Metropolis during the conclusion of Man of Steel, is interesting. I like seeing Wonder Woman in this. Was that a scene set in the Middle East? This film does feel epic. Oh and Ma Kent’s “be their angel” but also “don’t feel the need to do anything, you don’t owe them anything” reminds me of Pa Kent’s “maybe” you should have let those kids die.
Joe Kelly and Ed McGuinness are coming back to Deadpool! oh, and they are bringing Spider-Man along. I like how Newsarama says that Kelly had a ‘memorable’ run with the character, as oppose to LEGENDARY run with the character!
There is a new title, Spidey, that deals with a teenage Spider-Man – so yet another all ages Spider-Man title that will possibly last twelve issues. Spider-Man 2099 is getting a new costume, which the original is so classic but we shall give it a chance.
The finale panel, that I was tracking – is the Women of Marvel panel
Not much was revealed in these panels, but we figured that at the offset. I didn’t know that Marguerite Bennett was wring A-Force and Years of Future Past, so this makes me want to read A-Force as I’m loving the latter series.
So that is everything that I saw of SDCC 2015. Maybe one day, I can go back to one again.
. . .
Yesterday, we finally outdid November 2014 as our best month ever, in terms of views. Thanks again everybody!
Thanks to YouTuber Jason Mraz for hosting his own video!
I really adore this song, especially that middle section that sounds like Mraz must have incredible lung control to hold his breath that long. Are there other songs with that type of speed or tempo change?
Gavin DeGraw’s Best I Ever Had doesn’t quite have that same moment but I do like how it does speed up in its own way –
Thanks to YouTuber GavinDeGrawVEVO for hosting this video.
Which this song seems like it shares the same tempo, sort of, with Train’s 50 Ways to Say Goodbye
Thanks to TrainVEVO for hosting this video.
or maybe I just like listening to all three songs in a row. That’s probably it.
Bonus thanks to Jennifer Cleeton for hipping me to this!
This is a very fun two minute cartoon, where Magneto, Cyclops, Wolverine, Beast, Kitty Pryde AND Lockheed get to participate in a conversation about how many times Magneto has died.
Here is the website for their 21 videos.
I need to watch more of these videos to see if Kitty appears in any more of these.
Kitty and Lockheed are both in Revisiting Profit
I see she is also part of the House of M, Part 2 episode.
House of M, Part 4
Phoenix Season, towards the end
Messiah Complex, Part 2
All of these are so terrific!
Matt Gardner with Peter Gresser bring us these amazing episodes!
The X-Men are apparently coming to Ultimate Spider-Man at some point in season three. I read that Kitty Pryde was mention once as to existing in this universe. Doing a little research revealed that she is named in the Daily Bugle news tickler to be appearing in an upcoming movie. This happens at the 2:07 minute mark of the episode. You will need to enlarge the video and then pause it as soon as Peter falls out of his chair. Her name isn’t on the screen for long.
Here, I did the hard work for you –
It is a closer look at the name –
It is repeated again at the 18:57 mark, but you have to be pretty fast on the pause button to see it –
Scott Mosier, the M in Smodcast, and if he isn’t on the episode, I don’t even bother listening as a general rule. I make rare exceptions for Walt Flanagan and Brian Johnson appearances.
Scott wrote eight episodes of the series and I made a point of watching all of them. I just didn’t pay attention to the news tickle the first time around.
His episodes are :
Beetle Mania
Damage
Attack of the Beetle
Hawkeye
Sinister Six
Swarm
Venom Bomb
Return of the Sinister Six
With this video, I feel like I have to announce that I am a fan of Ed Sheeran. Or at the very least, that I’m a fan of his hit songs.
Thanks again to Ed Sheeran for hosting his own video!
This is a very cute music video. When he was younger and with the glasses, he looks like my nephew Hunter but with red hair.
Referring to Ed Sheeran songs, Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) showed up on Jimmy Fallon and performed a very fun song –
Thanks to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon for hosting the video!
I’m addicted to watching this and I doubt I will ever tire of it.
I’ve been a fan of Jeremy Renner since his ABC show, The Unusuals, which was a great comedy police show, with some real heart. It is a shame that it only lasted ten episodes.
Referring to Renner’s Hawkeye, remember when we first saw him in Thor’s first film?
Thanks to tiliavengers16 for hosting this video!
It is editted (I imagine for length and to keep it mostly about Hawkeye) but this is by far my favorite scene of Thor’s first movie. Most other scenes with Kat Dennings and Stellan Skarsgard will round out the rest of my top five scenes from the first film. Especially when Thor and Dr. Erik Selvig are drunk after Thor’s failed attempt to lift Mjolnir.
Imagine how much better that film would have been (or how awesome that scene would have been) if he lifted the hammer and had that glorious reunion with his powers? That would have been such a great moment!
