I was pretty dismissive of Taylor Swift, until I heard “Thug Story”
Which she did with T-Pain.
Thanks to YouTuber T-Swift Aholic for hosting the video!
Ever since this video, I like to refer to her, mostly in my own head, as T-Swizzle.
She’s done other songs that have been catchy but her latest song – Shake It Off has stolen my heart!
Thanks to YouTuber TaylorSwiftVEVO for hosting this video!
For all of those players, haters, heartbreakers and thinkers out there!
Not that long ago, Yahoo News had a story titled “Taylor Swift Shows Off Curves in a Bikini” which I must have saw that newsfeed “news” feed somehow. My first thought, like many of the posters, was “what curves?”
They have since renamed the article, probably due to false advertising. She’s definitely grown up in the past two years since that story and the Shake It Off song.
Since I had these two videos, I was trying to create a Top Five list but I may not be a giant Taylor Swift after all. So this is a loose top five videos and I wouldn’t fight anyone over the remainder three.
You Belong With Me
The video that introduced us to the guy who plays Havok in X-Men First Class & Days of Future Past, Lucas Till
Mine
Love Story
Looking over her videos from TaylorSwiftVEVO, I had forgotten that she was considered a Country Artist in those early days. Which I will repeat here, must have burn Carrie Underwood so much as I’m sure Taylor Swift doesn’t recognize herself as a country artist. Sure, when she was being given awards but lately? I doubt it.
Since I didn’t post this in time, I’m adding her latest song – Blank Space, to this list. I really dig this video.
There are a couple moments of great music video making in it. Like the cut of her throwing herself against the furnace and cutting into a chocolate cake with white frosting so it resembles blood.
Also in the meantime, SNL did a great fake commercial – Swiftamine
Thanks to Saturday Night Live for hosting the video! It rings so true!
I don’t watch every episode of the newest show but if the info box on the DVR makes it seem like an important episode, I watch those.
The episode “Vengeance is Mine” was so good! They really do an amazing job there. This newest show does a great job of keeping the stakes as high as possible.
Thanks to TMNT 2012 for hosting this video.
I wouldn’t say this is my favorite episode of the series but I do like the Leo / Karai and the Donatello / April relationships.
My favorite episode from the 2003 series is, without a doubt, Shredder Strikes Back two parter, with Leonardo taking on the entire Foot Clan. So awesome!
Thanks Donnies Ninja Pizza for combining the two episodes!
It is how the first live action movie should have been, with Leo instead of Raph.
Can’t say I have a favorite episode from the original series, except for maybe some of the Technodrome / High Stakes episodes.
The awesome, Turtles Forever, shouldn’t count but I do love it.
for reminding me of some great episodes and moments!
I’m a sucker for anything that comes close to the amazing moment from Leonardo 1 where he fights the entire Foot Clan and does amazing up to the point of being overwhelmed by sheer numbers plus exhaustion.
I get why the first live action movie went with Raph for the fight but it should have been Leo.
My favorite moment from a film has to be, without a doubt –
Thanks to Otis’ Crappy Stuff for hosting the video.
They did a great job of not promoting this in the commercials as when it happened on screen, I couldn’t believe we were going to witness this great moment.
So amazing!
So the 80s cartoon had Shredder & Splintered
Thanks to James’ Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Cartoons for hosting the video.
Get Shredder
Thanks to TheCartoonMan for hosting this video! (the previous poster took theirs down)
Shredder finally gets a win and it is big!
My favorite of the first few seasons, might be – Maltese Hamster, I like Donatello’s Film Noir style voiceover
Thanks to LoveBerryTV
Looking over the list of episodes, several of them came to mind that I enjoyed. The Lotus Blossom episodes and the ones with Usagi Yojimbo are also good.
Last issue ended with the X-Men showing up to protect who they think is an innocent 15 year old boy from a killer robot.
Wolverine acts way crazier in this issue than I think he ought to be written as. He is constantly working his own hero name into the conversation and it seems odd for him to be referring to himself in the third person.
There are two whole pages dedicated for recapping the previous issue. The 80s!
A blizzard starts coming down. Kurt thinks Storm should have a better control over her powers, she tells him that it isn’t her doing.
Wolverine slashes ROM and ROM feels utter pain. Wolverine is out to kill the poor guy, and all over a misunderstanding!
Kitty is surprised, as I am, that Wolverine seems to be so berserk. We learn that Hybrid can read minds as well.
Wolverine calls Colossus, Man of Steel – which I’m surprised isn’t a nickname that is used more for the Russian.
Wolverine also starts the first of three instances where he detects a greater evil but can’t quite place it but he knows it isn’t ROM but for some reason, he will keep fighting ROM as if that is where the source of the evil is.
Poor ROM wonders if he has to keep fighting Earth’s superheroes as he met Jack of Hearts in issue 12 of his own series. I wouldn’t recommend seeking that issue out as Jack of Hearts is horrible. Or at least, when he was part of the Avengers during Goeff Johns’ run and died in Bendis’ Avengers Disassembled, I didn’t miss him. I probably just never ‘got’ the character but is that really on me?
Turns out that Hybrid has been manipulating Storm’s weather powers to make the blizzard worst but she is able to at least make it bearable.
ROM sees that Jimmy has reverted to his Hybrid true form and tries to warn Kitty as she has been holding Jimmy this entire time – trying to protect him.
Kitty can’t hear ROM’s warning, with the wind gale. ROM comes charging at her, to safe her, but she freaks out and phases through him. The panel of him quickly on his knees and the caption of how intense the nausea he is feeling, is palpable. Which I guess I don’t quite know ROM’s deal. They keep calling him a cyborg but how much of him is made up of robot parts and how much is humanoid? Or is he like a Dalek, and is a little dude in a metal can?
That’s another thing, so the X-Men are here to locate a new mutant. They see ROM and just assume he is an evil mutant in a robot body. How often has that happened to them before or since? I can’t think of any examples.
Thus begins some great confusion, made worst by the weather. Essentially, everyone has to figure things out on their own and fight their own battles.
Hybrid starts choking ROM with his mind powers. ROM tries to fire his Neutralizer but Colossus thinks ROM is aiming at Kitty and does the dumbest thing. He tackles Hybrid, and as thanks, gets force reverted back to his human form and Hybrid starts choking him!
Kurt starts giving Colossus CPR to try to save him.
Wolverine, again, senses true evil but sees ROM, wonders why he keeps holding back and yet again, starts trying to fight the greatest spaceknight of them all.
Then comes probably my three favorite panels of the comic. Kitty realizes that ROM is the good guy and that must mean that Jimmy is the bad guy. She still hasn’t seen Hybrid yet. The three panels of her going from – curious to suspicious to utter shock, are amazing and Buscema really knows what he is doing with pacing.
I know people seem to think John Buscema is the bigger name of the two brothers but I’ve always been a much bigger fan of Sal’s work. I’m sure I only own or have an read John’s work on a rare occasion.
Probably doesn’t have to be mention, but I felt the need to defend Sal’s legacy and my preference. Sometimes a man has to do what a man has to do.
Hybrid also has commented that he will use Kitty has the first of his many breeding opportunities. Which is way gross! He will later have the same plan for Mystique, Destiny and Rogue.
Kitty, or Sprite as her teammates insist on calling her, scolds herself for being scared. She’s an X-Man now and has to go on the offense. So she turns a snowmobile toward Hybrid and he counters by breaking it into its base components and throwing it back at her.
She luckily phases through the pieces but the blizzard is hurting her concentration, so she needs to change tactics.
Just then, she bumps into Wolverine, who is still out for blood. She finally tells him that he is after the wrong guy. The two X-Men see Hybrid knock ROM’s gun out of his hand.
Wolverine gets the bright idea that the gun must be an effective weapon and tries to fire it at Hybrid.
Instead of firing, the force backfires onto Wolverine as a type of security measure. We’ll see why ROM needs a security measure later in the issue.
Kitty figures the gun has to be used and that she might be able to do what the reckless Wolverine couldn’t. Due to the way her powers work, she is able to manipulate the weapon and fires it at Hybrid.
ROM tells her to change the setting of the gun so that it is on full force.
This tears Hybrid to pieces, which are also even grosser than his whole. There is one bad side effect to this, doing so leaves a portal open to the limbo dimension that ROM sends all Dire Wraiths to.
Who goes through the portal? ROM does! He has tasted his own medicine, and has found it to be … bitter!
The gun overwhelms Kitty and she drops it. The X-Men gather around her, as far as they are concern, they have done everything they can do.
There is a Hostess Fruit Pie ad starring Thing in Earthly Delights.
As they walk away, we see that the Neutralizer is just laying there on the snow. Without it, ROM is stuck in limbo!
Which I don’t own the next issue. The next issue of ROM that I own is 31, and by then, he has escaped limbo. I’ve already reviewed ROM 32, which is when Hybrid returns, so even he escapes his fate from this issue.
Of my eight issues that I own of ROM Spaceknight – we now have reviewed three of them. The other issues are 45, 65, 66 and Annual 3. Not sure when we’ll get to those but one of these days. Annual 3 could be as soon as two years from now! Exciting!
. . .
Also, for any Batman : Arkham City fans out there – Today is St. Roch’s Day! The only holiday in August!
Thanks to YouTuber PenMaster3000 for hosting the video!
Who won the Power of Veto Competition. Let’s find out!
Glad they replayed Zach and Frankie’s “You’re a Liar. I’m a safe liar” exhange as I replayed it in my head a couple times since Sunday.
Zach and Frankie are just yelling a regular conversation.
Caleb and Cody join the conversation, to clear the air.
Frankie reveals he is Adriana Grande’s older brother and he is a YouTube personality. I like how Derrick barely knows who she is.
That is funny, Derrick calling Frankie out for lying the whole game.
Frankie is playing for a charity.
Frankie gathers the gals. Victoria is super excited! Seems like Nicole is also vaguely familiar with Adriana as well. So funny.
I disagree with Zach that Frankie is guaranteed the win. Fan favorite, sure but not the overall winner.
I wonder how Donny reacted to the ‘news’
Wow, Derrick and Victoria have been having a secret friendship.
Veto Players :
Christine – Derrick
Zach – Caleb
Donny – Nicole
Production found a way to put Victoria in a coconut bra.
OTEV!!! We love Otev.
For some reason Production gets a past houseguest or a celebrity. This time, it is Gilbert Gottfried.
He’s a penguin.
My wife wonders if they are combining Otev and Zingbot. I hope not as I love Zingbot. Though it almost died last year.
Out first – Donny
Donny seems to be the target for the week.
Out second – Nocole
Out third – Christine
Hopefully no one pulls an Enzo and almost kills someone (Regan)
Out fourth – Derrick
Final round : Zach or Caleb
Zach won on an Amber question. That has to burn Caleb.
Otev = Veto
We’ve seen Frankie in his underwear more than anyone else in the house. Maybe ever?
Zankie may be back together. It is fake but they both know that.
Was the Team America task forfeited?
Zach updates Victoria, on everything! Her first game talk
Poor Victoria, she is a month late on the Detonators news.
Victoria tells Zach that she told Derrick everything. But what could that even consist of?
#UndercoverCop
HOUSE MEETING!!! Oh Derrick, it was resolved before the meeting
Has there been a not awkward house meeting?
Derrick NEEDS to win the game. Or deserves the win. His speech will be amazing.
Team America mission, will not be able to be done. Donny is on the block. They can’t get someone to volunteer to go up and vote them out. That is two weeks / challenges in a row.
Oh Christine, don’t get played.
Are Christine and Nicole still best friends?
Zach trying to sell some Fruit Loop Dingus shirts.
Zach made a nice solo speech.
Christine got played and now Nicole is the replacement nominee. Reminds me of Nicole nominating Donny based on lies.
Derrick put it best – Donny, King of Vetos or Nicole, Queen of HoH
I don’t want Nicole to go home but to make my wife happy – she gots to go!
. . .
Wil Heuser has done another BB16 Saga, episode 5!
Inspired by Drunk History, a show on Comedy Central program that I just love. Whenever Comedy Central airs a marathon, I usually record every episode and rewatch them. That Derek Waters, has found a show that has captured my attention.
The show started off on Funny or Die, with seven episodes
The very first concert I’ve ever been to was the Ninja Turtles – Coming Out of Our Shells tour. For the longest time, it was also the only concert I was at.
I was trying to find a tour date list online but the Internet failed me.
Has basically everything else! The first date was August 17, 1990 and we must have saw it either in Arizona or California. I remember the drive wasn’t forever. I was eight.
My three favorite songs are :
April’s Ballad
Thanks to Mike E. Perez for hosting the video
Skipping Stones by Splinter
Thanks mckxm for hosting the video
No Treaties
Thanks the3ninjakids for hosting the video
I owned the cassette tape, the concert video and the making of the concert video. I was pretty hard core Turtles back in the day.
What better way to kick off Frank Miller Month than the very first instance of his work being animated!
I know there is Parts One and Two of Dark Knight Returns, but I haven’t seen those yet. I believe they are on Netflix now but I barely have time to watch the shows I want to watch but one of these days.
Thanks to YouTuber pavsthewarrior for hosting the video!
Also – Happy 75th Birthday, Batman!
As a gift of Batman, you should totally read Batman : Year One and Dark Knight Returns. Sort of the be-all end-all of Batman. I sort of wish Frank Miller was able to do a story that took place somewhere in between those two.
Who went home last night, Caleb or Devin? We’ll find out,
But First …
RANDOM THOUGHTS!!!
Look at Julie Chen in an appropriate dress. It fits and suits her.
Writers gave her a good line to – Devin obsess with power and Caleb obsess with a girl.
So far so good.
Voiceover guy – guy who looks like the Rock, is on the block
Isn’t it too early to be visiting family? I do like how Jeff is clearly just working for Big Brother. Makes sense, people love Jeff. I am one of them.
Julie said, but first!
The dumbest move to play in this game, is to not use the Power of Veto on yourself when you are on the block.
Caleb and Hayden, hopefully one doesn’t rub off on the other.
Donny and Cody are talking as they put the shades over the cameras behind the outdoor mirrors. Apparently, my wife and the other live feeders recognize that as helping Production.
Guys whistling at Victoria, as they don’t recognize her.
Cody and Amber sharing a moment, in the dark, when Caleb spies on them.
Nicole and Hayden cuddling!
Victoria busting up Hayden’s schemes.
Look at Frankie making an appearance! He hasn’t been around lately , on the edits.
I like the idea of voting out Caleb.
Production is going out of their way to set up Caleb leaving.
Jeff Schroeder is a Big Brother Legend.
We bought Walker Dennis new diapers, my wife said they have Pooh on them and I thought she meant, poo.
Jeff is so charming with Donny’s parents.
Does Amber own a pair of grannie panties!?!
I like Donny’s brother and sister. His girlfriend is young and cute!
Jeff is cute in Donny’s landscaper uniform.
Julie keeping the questions upbeat and high energy.
The way the houseguests act when Julie turns her attention to a new person, makes me feel like they talk about dreading one on one questions with her.
No Half Nots competition, they will be chosen by their lack of activity from their bracelets. Glad Production didn’t forget about those, though no one is discussing them.
Speeches :
Both are throwing each other under the bus.
Julie – Caleb is blinded by love, Devin is blinded by power.
The voting!
Jocasta – Devin
Donny – Devin
Nicole – Devin, she hoppily votes for him
Hayden – Devin
Zach – Devin
Cody – Devin
It is official, Devin is gone. Hopefully, Caleb calms down around Amber.
Houseguests seem to be overly happy Devin is gone. Almost to jerkish levels.
Aw, Brittany gave Devin a gift for his daughter. So sweet.
Donny is a grounds keeper
Not a bad interview with Julie and Devin
Donny gave a nice farewell message to Devin
HoH Competition, duos!
Victoria – Christine
Caleb – Nicole
Brittany – Jocasta
Amber – Zach
Donny – Hayden
Cody – Frankie
No duos make any sense.
Scott Bakula is on NCIS : New Orleans? Now, I am super interested in that show. Unfortunately, I am not in my fifties. I wonder if I can still enjoy it?
I’ve never been a fan of the egg competition.
Doesn’t seem to be a live episode friendly competition.
Only Brittany and Jocasta were happy with the pairings.
Team America task – who to nominate, floater or physical threat? Physical Threat won, which is a shame.
Shoot the winners are not revealed on the show.
The winners are . . .
. . .
. . .
. . .
Don’t look now . . .
. . .
. . .
. . .
Here are the winners . . . CODY & FRANKIE!!!
Thanks to Jamie’s Because You Are Addicted blog for the results. As soon as the episode was over, for us, we had the results. Now, that is service!
I predict Cody puts up Caleb and that is how Team America gets their easy cash.
. . .
I did not know that Wil Heuser (from BB15) was already three episodes deep into his BB16 Saga videos!
This is the third episode. Very funny and so true!
A parody of Frankie’s younger sister, Ariana Grande’s Problem video.
Which I was determined never to mention her but why fight it?
I checked and Franke and Ariana do have the same last name.
. . .
Still no magician pictures online but maybe it is due to me not giving the Internet a picture. Perhaps?
Seems like the Internet has calmed down since last week but she also hasn’t been the target, so there was no reason to worry.
Like the Oscars, apparently, my wife and I are not watching critically adored shows. If a show we do watch is nominated, it feels like dumb luck. That is one of the reasons why I like the MTV Movie Awards, at least those are the movies I watch or want to watch. The same is true for the People’s Choice Awards.
Here is who I hope wins or just what shows we watch – thus, only those should win.
Programs
Outstanding Comedy Series
Big Bang Theory
Modern Family
Orange is the New Black
Silicon Valley (I watch this one on my own)
Of those four shows, I hope Orange is the New Black wins it as that will encourage Netflix to really put some money behind the Marvel series that are coming. Plus, it is a good show and I believe it won last year. I really liked Silicon Valley, it was a short season but I liked where it was going towards the end.
Outstanding Drama Series
Downton Abbey (my wife watches this)
Game of Thrones (my wife watches this, I have to eventually – she started without me and now its too late for me)
Mad Men (my wife watches this)
True Detective (we started this and saw the first four episodes and the rest are sitting on our DVR)
This has to be the last year Breaking Bad wins, right? I thought that was true of last year but here it is again. I’m hoping True Detective wins, just because it is the only show I’ve seen.
Outstanding Variety Show
Saturday Night Live
It really is the only series nominated that I follow. I tried Fallon but like all late night shows (besides Conan) I only watch pending on the celebrity guests. Does anyone watch every episode?
Outstanding Miniseries
American Horror Show : Coven (we saw the first four episodes, the rest are on our DVR)
Again, just the one show we saw – sort of – so here’s hoping it wins. Actually, I want to say that we deleted them and gave up on it. The first two seasons were pretty good but we had a lot of shows and not enough time to watch them all. We are thinking of switching to Hulu at the end of the summer, so maybe we can do more shows that way. No interest in the Clown season that is coming up.
Outstanding Television Movie
Killing Kennedy
The Normal Heart
Glad Normal Heart was nominated as I only watched it as I thought it would be. Still rather have Killing Kennedy win, shout outs to Bill O’Reilly!
Outstanding Reality – Competition Program
Amazing Race
Dancing with the Stars
Top Chef
Voice
Not sure why Big Brother is never nominated, though last season makes sense as it was full of racists and fools. That’s a tough category. My vote would be Top Chef, next Voice, Amazing Race then Dancing with the Stars.
Acting
Lead Performances
Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series
Don Cheadle as Marty Kaan on House of Lies
Matt LeBlanc as Himself on Episodes
William H. Macy as Frank Gallagher on Shameless
Jim Parsons as Dr. Sheldon Cooper on The Big Bang Theory
I do love LeBlanc being nominated for playing himself. He won last year so it could happen again. Macy and Parsons, these two are tough as they are both my least favorite characters on their respected shows. The Mace did some amazing acting this year though, so he should probably win it. It dawns on me now that NPH never won an Emmy for HIMYM.
Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series
Taylor Schilling as Piper Chapman on Orange Is the New Black
To be honest, we still haven’t seen the final episode of the first season. I heard that someone was leaving with the first episode of season two (which I believe turn out to not to be true) so we wanted to wait and watch them both back to back.
Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series
Jeff Daniels as Will McAvory on Newsroom
Matthew McConaughey as Rustin Cohle on True Detective
Woody Harrelson as Martin Hart on True Detective
If McConaughey wins, he will have to on a very short list of people who have won an Oscar and an Emmy in the same year. Right? I see another year of Charlie Hunnam being completely overlooked for Sons of Anarchy. I swear, the stuff the show has Jax Teller do and how beautifully Hunnam handles it, he should be nominated every single year. With the next season being the last, hopefully he can get nominated eventually! My choice to win would be Jeff Daniels.
Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series
Lizzy Caplan as Virginia Johnson on Masters of Sex
Claire Danes as Carrie Mathison on Homeland
To be honest, I had to stop watching Masters of Sex, with maybe five episodes left. I just couldn’t fit it in as my wife didn’t want to watch it and it felt pervy to me to watch it on my own so late at night. Was a good show though and Caplan deserves to win. With Danes’ nomination, I notice that my least favorite characters’ actors keep getting nominated. What does that mean?
Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie
Mark Ruffalo as Ned Weeks on The Normal Heart
This keeps paying off!
Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie
Jessica Lange as Fiona Goode on American Horror Story : Coven
Sarah Paulson as Cordelia Goode on American Horror Story : Coven
I do not see why people love Lange so much on these AHS series, she’s horrible and not so horrible that she is amazing, I just don’t like her characters. Paulson should be winning instead.
Supporting Performannces
Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series
Ty Burrell as Phil Dunphy on Modern Family
Jesse Tyler Ferguson as MItchell Pritchett on Modern Family
I do like how Modern Family’s cast does nominations like how Friends apparently did, where they nominate everybody. Modern Family fails at this by renominated those who have won in the past. They seem to have finally stopped that for this year. Here’s hoping Burrell wins. Phil and Alex are two of my favorites on the show.
Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series
Mayim Bialik as Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler on The Big Fang Theory
Julie Bowen as Claire Dunphy on Modern Family
Kate McKinnon as Various Characters on Saturday Night Live
Kate Mulgrew as Galina “Red” Reznikov on Orange is the New Black
My wife will like Bialik being nominated. She loves saying “Amy Farrah Fowler.” She really is the best part of Sheldon. Surprise McKinnon got nominated as she was barely in most of the episodes, at least, towards the end. Mulgrew would be cool as I doubt she was ever nominated for Voyager. My vote would probably be for Bialik.
Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series
Mandy Patinkin as Saul Berenson on Homeland
I guess Patinkin is my choice to win
Took until Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series before I didn’t have a choice. Probably Christina Hendricks in Mad Men, as I’m that guy.
Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie
Matt Bomer as Felix Turner on Normal Heart
Joe Mantello as Mickey Marcus on Normal Heart
Alfred Molina as Ben Weeks on Normal Heart
Jim Parsons as Tommy Boatwright on Normal Heart
Wow, did that ever pay off! I will be all for Molina getting the win here! It was crazy seeing Hulk and Doctor Octopus on screen at the same time. Like watching Sally Field (Aunt May) and Molina go at it in, Not Without My Daughter. Parsons winning would be another one of those short list things, winning two awards, one in Comedy, the other in Drama – that has to not have happen to often.
Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Movie
Angela Bassett as Marie Laveau on American Horror Story : Coven
Kathy Bates as Delphine LaLaurie on American Horror Story : Coven
Ellen Burstyn as Olivia Foxworth on Flowers in the Attic
Frances Conroy as Myrtle Snow on American Horror Story : Coven
Julia Roberts as Dr. Emma Brookner on Normal Heart
Once I saw Julia Roberts was in that movie, I knew she was going to be nominated. It is the type of role that the Academy are suckers for.
Directoring
Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series
Episodes (Nine) by Iain B. MacDonald
Modern Family (Las Vegas) by Gail Mancuso
Orange is the New Black (Lesbian Request Denied) by Jodie Foster
Silicon Valley (Minimum Viable Product) by Mike Judge
I like Louis CK (Home Movies represent, yo!) being nominated but I don’t watch that show – I know, I’m horrible. Jodie Foster is probably going to win for being Jodie Foster. I want to say I notice her name in the credits, as I’m that guy who looks for names I recognize in opening credits of television shows). Mike Judge created Silicon Valley so I would like him to win something for it. Also, Pamela Fryman didn’t win for HIMYM, flipping Academy of fools!
Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series
True Detective (Who Goes There) by Cary Joli Fukunaga
Well, that was easy!
Outstanding Directing for a Variety Series
Saturday Night Live by Don Roy King
I suppose it takes a lot of work to make it all run smoothly but is that his job or someone else’s?
Outstanding Directing for a Miniseries, Movie or Dramatic Special
American Horror Story : Coven (Bitchcraft) by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon
Normal Heart by Ryan Murphy
I’ll go for Glee and AHS creator, Ryan Murphy – then everybody wins. Sort of.
Writing
Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series
Episodes (Five) by David Crane
Orange is the New Black (I Wasn’t Ready) by Liz Friedman & Jenji Kohan
Silicon Valley (Optimal Tip-to-Tip Efficiency) by Alec Berg
I like Crane winning as he co-created this show and Friends. Same for Kohan creating her show and Weeds. If Tip-to-Tip is the series finale, then Berg totally deserves the win. Probably Louie CK will win for Louie. He usually does.
Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series
True Detective (Secret Fate of All Life) by Nic Pizzolatto
Show creator, as well, if I remember my HBO First Look, correctly.
Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series
Inside Amy Schumer
Its a good show! Maybe not every segment but at least two good ones per. Which is better that most weekly variety series.
Outstanding Writing for a Miniseries, Movie or Dramatic Special
American Horror Story : Coven (Bitchcraft) by Ryan Murphy & Brad Falchuk
Normal Heart by Larry Kramer
Probably go more for Normal Heart for this one. Though there were a slew of unlikeable characters. I wonder why ‘Dramatic’ isn’t the go to word for all of these categories. In a Dramatic Series looks and sounds more right than In a Drama Series. Maybe it is just me.
This year, I was able to do this based off of the shows we actually watch. Usually, I open it up to the actors or creative types that I like – which is what I have to do for the Oscars, as we can’t see every movie that is nominated and some of those films – to be honest – have no appeal to us. But once it comes on HBO or Showtime, we record them. Which is how we are going to watch Gravity this weekend.
My favorite Emmy’s moment is the Jimmy Fallon and Friends Born to Run.
Thanks to YouTuber Springsteen.
The Friends are – Tina Fey, Randy Jackson, Jon Hamm, Joel McHale, Jorge Garcia, Nina Dobrev, Kate Gosselin, Randy Jackson and Betty White plus the Glee Gang with an appearance by the Tim Gunn!
There are only two reality shows I ever want to be one. One of them is MTV’s Road Rules, which doesn’t exist so that dream will never come true. Which I don’t get, as one would imagine that Road Rules would be a better testing ground for future candidates in those Challenges and Duels competition shows. Much better than using the Real World to accomplish that.
Whenenver I hear Natalie Imbruglia’s Torn, I instantly remember the 90s and the Real World clips start rolling through my mind’s eye. No other song does that for me better than Torn.
Such a good song!
The other reality show that I would love to be on is CBS’s Big Brother. There’s something about it that just speaks to me. I feel like I could reall excel at it.
The only problem for me will be having to tolerate Chenbot. Is she the worst part of the show? Yes. Could her part easily be done by the voice over guy who does the Wednesday and Sunday episodes? Yes. Is she married to CBS Corporation President and CEO, Leslie Moonves? Yes.
We have been getting the live feeds for the past few years and watched every episode of Big Brother After Dark when it aired on Showtime. We don’t get the TV Guide channel, so we no longer can watch it.
There are some great websites that do an amazing job of following the house guests :
These two are the best websites for to follow the show with!
Just for my use of not having to go back to Wikipedia every year, here are the winners of previous seasons :
Season One Eddie McGee
Season Two Will Kirby
Season Three Lisa Donahue
Season Four Jun Song Ex-Factor
Season Five Drew Daniel Project DNA
Season Six Maggie Ausburn Secret Partner
Season Seven Mike “Boogie” Malin All Stars 1
Season Eight “Evel” Dick Donato Rivals
Season Nine Adam Jasinski Couples
Season Ten Dan Gheesling Back to Basics
Season Eleven Jordan Lloyd Cliques
Season Twelve Hayden Moss Sabateur
Season Thirteen Rachel Reilly Returning Cast
Season Fourteen Ian Terry Coaches
Season Fifteen Andy Herren Three Nominees / MVP
Season One is the season that I watched on my own. It doesn’t quite count as the format is nothing like what it is now.
Season Two has the second best play of the game as the winner, Will Kirby. Some would say he is by far the greatest player to play the game, but he is a close second to Dan Gheesling.
Season Two through Six, I didn’t watch at all and am obsess with finding a way to watch these episodes!
Season Three is when Power of Veto started.
Season Four is when Big Brother started becoming the show we will recognize it to be.
Season Seven is the season I started with, it is also the season my wife and I started dating. So I missed most of the season but the first episode I saw had NPH (Neil Patrick Harris) on it so I was hooked. So I’ve been a Big Brother fan since August 29, 2006. He was promoting the great How I Met Your Mother, which was a new show way back then!
Janelle’s moment in the first elimination in the finale where she let go of the strap and regrabbed it as she was readjusting herself still haunts me. She didn’t know the buzzer started and so she was eliminated in the very first two seconds. I still say they should have just restared the competition. That is brutal!
Season Eight was Evel Dick’s season, though I mostly remember it for the season with Eric and Jessica as I really like Jessica. She was my first Big Brother crush. Which the show does a pretty good job of finding that one lady that I’m really going to like. Sometimes I pick the wrong one at first but one eventually rises. Those two are still married, as far as I know.
Evil Dick use to host this great show online that was essentially a recap show where he and other former houseguests would come on and talk about the show. I use to really love it but then it started being overly into advertising and it moved to a different website and I couldn’t follow it anymore.
Oh, Season Nine. Its winner, Adam, got fired from his job – this being the first season where I learn that what happens in the game can have serious implications on your real life. He ended up going to jail after his season too, something that started happening to more contestants.
Season Ten gave us Dan, by far the greatest player to ever play this game. Though I didn’t give him that title until Season Fifteen but he really is the greatest player. Is he my favorite player? No, that goes to another player but he is by far my favorite player to win the game.
Season Ten also gave us Jessie, who will have a bigger impact on season eleven as a returning hosueguest but I want to say that ever since this season – he has shown up as a special guest every year since then. He doesn’t mind making a fool of himself and I imagine production likes that about him. He may have missed a year but I want to say he is pretty constant.
Another constant that I really like is the Zingbot 3000 – boy do I like those zings!
Season Eleven gave us Jeff and Jordan, and I do love me Jeff Schroeder, he will probably be my third favorite houseguest.
Eleven also gave us Chima, who had a very violent outburst and essentially self destructed and was forced to leave the game, only the third person to be expelled. This season also had Russell and Ronnie and this weird moment when Russell was being a bully to Ronnie and then later said it was a mutual agreed act. But Ronnie was seen in the confessional, crying and wanting his wife. Why pretend to the edit that might not happen?
Also, production did this fun montage with Kevin watching Jeff being the sexy garden boy and that was fun to watch.
Season Twelve, 2010, is when we started really getting into Big Brother, as the live feeds are like $25 and are live almost all the time. When it goes to fishes, is maddening how often it happens but it is well worth it. Those two websites are great about giving you time stamps of when to go back and watch. This season gave us Britney Haynes, by far, my favorite houseguest of all time. She can come back every single season, to either play or host or mentor, I don’t care.
Poor Britney suffered from not being part of the Brigade alliance. Which was a great alliance, not the most exciting to watch but they had the best strategy I’ve ever seen. Have a core group of guys, each guy has an outside friend, so you can have eight votes right there but definitely will know everything that was happening.
Season Twelve might go down as my favorite season as well, as it gave us Brendon and Rachel, and this entire season was so fun to watch. So many different individuals playing the game together and apart and so much was happening! Matt and Regan, Enzo, the whole cast was pretty decent. Lane. Annie and Kathy were the dead weight of the season, Monet too now that I’m looking at the cast. Andrew had a good speech.
Andrew gave a great final speech as did Matt, given several opportunities to make speeches, each one better than the last. I like players who just have fun with the format.
I want to say this was also the season where Chenbot started interviewing the HoH on Eviction Night and those were extremely awkward. As awkward as the forced conversations with Chenbot with the houseguests proper. She really is the worst thing about the show.
If I could ever be on it, I’m not sure if I could pretend and go along with it.
Season Thirteen gave us Jeff and Jordan as well as Brendon and Rachel back. Another fun season to watch. Evel Dick left under mysterious circumstances. He eventually started hosting that show this season.
Oh man, the fear I had of Porsche winning over Rachel because of how catty the jury was, was intense! The game is all about trying not to let floaters or the weaker member of a duo win and that’s always disappointing! The main person takes all of the heat and gets eliminated and the other person is left stating that they were crucial to all decisions – it just makes for less than stellar speeches. Survivor has this problem too!
Lawron made some funny poor decisions too, during this season but it gave us Brendon back for a time – so it worked out.
Season Fourteen, Dan Gheesling became the greatest player of all time this season. Dan’s Funeral, and so many other spectacular moments! Dan’s game though, did make it so that he could never win but Doctor Ian Terry was a great player himself. Plus, more Britney Haynes!
Season Fourteen also gave us Wil Heuser, who is so fun on YouTube. No one has time for two L’s.

I keep worrying, with how production didn’t hide how much they loved Frank – that he was going to force another All-Star situation.
Ian’s “get a stepping” to Boogie is pretty classic.
Another awesome moment is when Dan went into Joe’s room, to sleep and Joe started talking to Dan as if he was someone else and started talking to Dan about Dan. Dan realized he had to shut that down fast and Joe’s attempt to recoup the moment and Dan just telling him to go to sleep is such a great moment. Only on that show could that happen.
Season Fifteen saw Rachel’s sister, Elissa, come in to play. I was a fan of Amanda at first, but then she started going crazy in the hosue! Really hurt McCrae’s chances.
Wil made this awesome video for the finale :
Pretty much summarizes the season.
His impression of Chenbot is pretty dead on. I never notice her “but first” until he pointed it out.
This season and the fallout with Aaryn and Amanda’s silliness and how much this show ruin their personal lives (both were fired from their jobs and such) really must wake up future contestants that they got to keep their racist nonsense at home. Especially once it is pointed out to you.
GenaMarie’s obsession with Nick was also insane for how little interaction they had together!
. . .
So excited about Season Sixteen! Get ready to expect the unexpected!
On June 16th, Chenbot announced that the house theme is Urban Treehouse. It looks pretty fun.
On June 18th, last week, Chenbot herself revealed on her show that the following twists will occur :
2 Head of Households (HoH) – I imagine it will only be like that for the first few weeks
4 Nominations each week – two per HoH – so the three nominees from last year must have tested well. I thought it was a failure as nothing shocking came from those.
The two HoH will have to compete in “Battle of the Block” which is silly as they already competed to become HoH. I wonder if the loser gets their nominees taken off the block. Sort of like a Super POV.
Also, America will have a larger role in the game than besides voting for what types of food the Have Nots get to eat for the week.
On June 19th, they announced the cast. Looks like a bunch of twenty somethings but at least it is a brand new cast. I like the concept of All Stars and returning guests but I enjoy having a brand new cast and having the old houseguest show up for guest appearances and such.
I should also tell you dear readers, that I’m hoping to follow Big Brother on the blog and throw my voice into the cyberworld. So you may want to skip those posts. Or play along! I feel like my love for the show expands every year with how we do something different and big for it, each new season.
