Besides my wife, on this July 1st, I want to give a shout out to the greatest teacher of all time.

Born July 1, 1899, Dr. Henry Walton Jones Jr., a professor of Archaeology.  If he was still alive, he would be 115 years old today.

Uncanny X-Men Annual 1 2006

Assistant Editor Sean Ryan

Associate Editor Nick Lowe

Warlord Joe Quesada

Peacekeeper Dan Buckley

Cover by Leinil Francis Yu and Dave McCaig

Cover Dated 2006

Usually I don’t give attention to the top brass editor times for a comic issue but if they are going to play around with their titles, I will spotlight it.  It harkens back to the good ol’ days of Marvel editorial.  Must be cool to be an editor at Marvel and have your name appear in so many comics.

So irritating that for whatever reason, they didn’t just name this Annual 19 but around the year 1999, Marvel – for a time – started naming their annuals after the year they cameo out.  Back when they were starting to realize that the smaller the issue number on the cover, the better it was to sell.  A practice they are still doing, even more so, now than they were back then.  So instead of doing the math that this would have been annual 25 (which would have been a thing to celebrate) they decide to restart the number.  Which these new numbers stop at three (I do own the third one but not the second) so the practice doesn’t have a nice payoff.

Also not great?  That cover by Leinil Francis Yu and Dave McCaig.  Just feels like a cover I’m constantly putting the cover face down so that my wife doesn’t see it.  There is just something about the way Storm’s bikini that doesn’t seem necessary.  I get that she is in Africa and getting in touch with her heritage but it just seems like an excuse to draw Storm in a bikini.  I really like Yu’s style for the most part, so I’m surprised by the cover but who knows.  It may have been for something else and they threw onto this or it was a last minute thing.

I don’t know, the more I look at it the more the cover starts to look like your typical comic cover so maybe it was just the way Storm’s bottom part of her bikini looked but I may have been over reacting.

Speaking of Heritage, this is billed as a Prelude to the Wedding of the Century.  If only it was billed as the Marriage of the Century, maybe these two crazy kids would still be together.  I’m planning right now to cover Storm and Black Panther’s wedding storyline next November for my wife and my anniversary.  This year will be the Jean and Scott wedding – so that is something to look forward too.  Neither marriage is still active but there are not that many X-Men Marriages so I have to work with what I have.

So this issue, Storm is dealing with should she accept Black Panther’s marriage proposal.  She gets separated from the X-Men, gets hurt and has a fever dream that has various characters, one of them being Kitty Pryde – hence why I own this issue.

I really like the Storm portions of this story more so than the X-Men sections.  That’s probably due to having Claremont handling the character.

Inside front cover is an ad for X-Men The Game, the bridge between X-Men 2 and X-Men 3.  I really like the Nightcrawler levels.  Iceman is a lot of ice sliding which got old fast.  Wolverine sections made for a good Wolverine game.  The game is for PS2 and XBox.  Even in 2006?  It doesn’t feel that long ago but I remember playing this game so much, trying to get all the collectibles.

Issue opens with Storm on the ground.  She’s been hurt.  She is buried under some debris.

She starts her fever dream.  At first, she sees her parents as they died in a similar fashion, being buried in rubble.  She was a young girl when she lost her parents, a fact that I often forget about as it doesn’t seem to define her except for this is the event that caused her claustrophobia.  Her parents memory gets twisted as they start rising like zombies, claiming that no one comes back from the dead – for the most part.  Which Storm is a good daughter here because, by 2006, almost every person she knows, has come back from the dead.

This transitions to the beginning of her fever dream with Forge.  Christina Strain gets to have some real fun with most of these fever dreams as the pages are partially colored and partially left non-colored.  It is a great technique to show a dream state.

This is during the time after House of M when the government had Sentinels guarding the X-Men, The O*N*E program.  One of them is hovering right next to the Kenya border, as he doesn’t want to start an international incident.  Not like he would do anything if he was right behind the mutants.

So Storm had a mission to unseat a warlord, Colonel Shetani.  She had asked the X-Men for help.  The ones who showed up are – Cannonball, Bishop, Psylocke, Rachel Grey and Nightcrawler.  Cannonball doesn’t do much in this story.   When the met up with Storm in her hotel room, the militia found their location and attacked the hotel.  Storm quickly summoned some wind and blew the X-Men away and she didn’t have time to escape herself, so that’s why she’s under the ruin hotel now.

Psylocke wants to take the fight to the street troops that are attacking them.  Nightcrawler is worried about the families that live in the surrounding homes.  Rachel can’t use her telepathy as much as there is static.

The troops are using high grade weapons that Kurt doesn’t believe they should have access to.

There is a two page ad for Superman Returns The Game, which like all Superman games, is horrible.

Back in Storm’s dream with Forge.  Forge essentially just talks to her about how dreams are important.  They imply that their relationship was good and it ended just because it was time.  Which isn’t my memory of their relationship, once she learned he was responsible for creating the gun that took away her powers, it was over.  Did they have a second relationship?

Forge wonders if this next relationship of hers will result in the same situation, of it running its course.  Also, that he would never keep her in a cage, they are birds and need to be able to fly free.

We see Colonel Shetani for the first time. He is ruthless, willing to sacrifice every one of his men if it results in the deaths of the X-Men.  He is told that every one of his men is on the scene.  Shetani tells that foolish man that their wives should be called then.  He picks a few of them to retrieve Storm, he wants her alive.

Back with the X-Men.  Shetani’s troops unleash what they call, screamers.  This knocks out Rachel’s telepathy.  Psylocke doesn’t seem to mind.  The last thought Rachel heard was, Hellfire.  Kurt wonders if the Hellfire Club is backing this operation.  Bishop states that hellfire is also a name of a missile.  Just then, the missile lands.  Psi-shields from both telepaths save the team.

Kurt has to make a call, stay there and endanger lives or take the fight to the source and leave Storm behind.  He decides that Storm knew the risks and tells the team to move out.  Bishop recognizes the tough call.

Storm has a new visitor in her dream, Jean Grey, in her classic green miniskirt outfit.  Storm’s dreamscape moves from jungles to New York City.  They talk about how this is the location where their friendship was formed.  Jean would talk about Scott and Storm would pretend to not look at the guys.  Storm tells her old friend, that she wasn’t looking at the guys.  Storm never liked the way men looked at her, like they were hyenas and she the prey.

Jean asks if there is anyone who catches Storm’s eye.  Storm reveals to Jean (who is her mental version of Jean – so she should already know all of this) that Black Panther, T’Challa, has proposed marriage to her.  Storm is hesitant as she is worried what that means to her future.  Does she just become a baby factory for the kingdom, creating future heirs?  Does her days get planned out for her by his staff?  Will he eventually move on to younger women?  Which, as far as I know, Storm was his first real relationship so that’s like 40 years of him not going after younger broads but we really don’t know his day to day life.  Not until Christopher Priest’s amazing run with the character during the Marvel Knights days.  That’s how I really know the character, outside of Busiek’s run on Avengers and a few appearances in Fantastic Four.

Storm confesses that T’Challa was the first boy she ever loved, if love is even the right word.  I believe there was only one instance of them back in the day being shown to have known each other as children.  Around this time though, there were miniseries and such showing all of this detailed history that was recently ‘discovered.’  Trying to show that this isn’t just a marriage of Marvel’s two big name African characters being put together because they both happen to be African.

Storm doesn’t know if she believes in love.  She looks at her friend, who she thought was in a loving relationship but Scott betrayed her, twice!  Which is unfair as both times Scott has been not with Jean, she was dead so he has the right to move on.  Now, was it pretty quickly?  Sure.  Was one of them an identical clone of her?  Sure.  Scott’s a complicated guy.  Jean defends him with the same logic.  Storm wishes she told her parents earlier about how Jean comes back from the dead.

Jean asks why Storm never looked for her other family members after her parents’ deaths.  Which is a valid point, and one I just assumed she did do.  The men at the dreamscape bar have now become hyenas and Storm runs away.  Jean is left to keep the animals at bay.

In RL, the floor that Storm has been laying on finally crumbles out from under her.  She lands in a buried tomb that was below the hotel.  A spear has punctured her side.  Waking her for a time.

The X-Men are still under attack.  Kurt recognizes this fight doesn’t play to their strengths.  Rachel tells him to teleport the team one block away.  He does so and when they land on the roof, they crash right through it.  They see a frighten mother and her two sons.

Back with Storm’s body.  A couple soldiers are getting closer to where she should be.  They take the time to loot.  Three sambas come at them, asking what they are doing.  The sambas threaten the troops, that they will kill their family and explain why the troops went off course instead of sticking to their task at hand.

Bishop tries to soothe the mother’s fears.  She doesn’t want to help the X-Men as she will be killed.  Her oldest son wants to help but she is worried that her sons will be turn into sambas.  Rachel finally asks the question I needed the answer to.  Sambas are children that Shetani has turn into killers.

The son decides that he likes school more than killing and if the X-Men promise to dethrone Shetani, he will help them.  He points to the nicest building in Turkana, the one building with no damage to it, that is where Colonel Shetani is.  I would have made the assumption but I don’t live the life of an X-Man.

Uncanny X-Men Annual 2006 Kitty 1

Storm’s dream finally gets good.  Also, the coloring starts to solidify as Kitty is Storm’s true north. Storm wonders what is wrong with her.  Who is she running from – the hyenas, Jean or herself?  Kitty, in her old school X-Men trainee uniform.  Kitty tells Storm that it is the third option.  Kitty then makes a fun – Welcome to Storm’s nightmare, Kitty Pryde.  Hope you survive the experience – comment.  Storm is happy to see her old friend.

Kitty, now in her green Ariel uniform, tells Storm to not to fear.  Everything Kitty ever needed to know, comes from her time with both Storm and Wolverine.  Storm was essentially her second mother.

Uncanny X-Men Annual 2006 Kitty 2

Storm agrees that she is close with Kitty as well.  Storm wishes she has more family traditions.

Uncanny X-Men Annual 2006 Kitty 3

At this time, Kitty is in her blue Excalibur outfit and the coloring technique is gone, now Storm is aware of what she really wants in life and her dream is complete.

If she ever had a child, she would want to sing to that child the same songs her mother sung to her.  But she doesn’t even really remember those songs, just pieces of it.  Whereas T’Challa, in Wakanda, every step or sight he sees, he has family history.  She wants that.

Just then, the hyenas are back.  Storm is now in one of her hero uniforms, and helps Kitty fight off the beasts.

Uncanny X-Men Annual 2006 Kitty 4

Just then, the Panther God appears, ready to help.  Storm denies it its chance, she needs to do this herself.  We’ll see the Panther God more in the wedding issues of Black Panther.  Storm was once treated like a goddess, so she treats gods as peers.

Storm tells the Panther God that she will be an equal to T’Challa.  That’s the only way she can be.  Kitty wonders if Storm should be trying to anger the god.

Clayton Henry does a great job drawing Kitty for these few pages.

The sambas get closer to Storm’s body.  They can tells he is breathing.  One of the boys tries to wake Storm by toying with the spear.  Doing so would cause her pain so her instincts kick in and she electrocutes them.  Her thought process states that she would try not to kill them if she had time but she doesn’t.  Which is pretty badarse but she still doesn’t kill them.

There is an ad for the Minimates X-Men : Dark Tide DVD that I looked up at Marvel Database and Kitty doesn’t appear in it so that’s one less DVD to try to locate and own.  I own two of these Marvel Minimates, both of them Kitty.  One of them, her blue outfit, came with a Lockheed along with a Captain Britain toy.  Which I suppose I do own the Captain Britain, I’m just not counting it.  The other Minimate should have came with a Beast and has Kitty mid-phase (and her Astonishing uniform) but I’m pretty sure I bought that on eBay and only got the Kitty one.

The lightning blast also heals Storm’s wounds.  At least, it cauterizes the wound but she gets around just fine.

The X-Men finally get to Shetani.  Shetani wants more missiles dropped, which would kill hundreds of his own men but he doesn’t care.  Just then, a tornado comes through the building.  Storm is not happy.

Storm wants to know why Shetani is out to kill her.  It is because he is her … uncle!  dun dun DUN!!! So he is defeated and he tells Storm where the rest of her relative are.

Which is odd, as I’m sure during LifeDeath, she did find some relatives but she probably has more unknown ones than known ones so it makes sense that she still be on this quest.  So she finds them in the Great Rift Valley of Kenya.  There she finds her … grandmother!

So the issue ends with Storm having a new family and that she tells Psylocke that she needs to talk to the King of Wakanda, as she owes him an answer to his question.

Which, did he propose to her, she told him she needs some time, and she walked away from him?  Seems bizarre but it is Storm so she gets what she wants.

. . .

Now that it is officially today, I can finally announce what has been happening all month long.  Like with my birthday month, this surprise can only work the one time.  Today, Shadow and Flame with Magik turns a year old!  We did it everybody!

I would like to thank those who follow the blog through our link here, our Twitter followers and those following through Facebook for the continued support.

I would like to thank my wife, Kristie, without whom, this blog wouldn’t be nowhere near as active as it is or there will only be one hundred word posts – which maybe might be something people like or what to see.

Also, thank you everybody who comes and visits the blog, whenever you do it!  If it wasn’t for the continued traffic, I would feel like I was crazy for even attempting to do this day in and day out.  Here’s to another year!

Just for the bragging rights of it all, look how big and international we are here at S&FwM!

At 62 views – our most popular post has been … X:DoFP – Kitty Pryde’s Time Phasing Powers.

Our event months and the latest X-Men movie did wonders for this blog.

I am so proud of what we were able to accomplish in just one year.  I thought no one would even find it and I’ll be posting for my own sake but thank you so much for checking us out and please forgive my gushing over the blog and its stats.  I mostly just want to have this so that I can compare it with next year’s numbers.

Here is to Year Two!

July is going to be a pretty straight forward month but August is going to be Frank Miller Month starting the 3rd.

oh, and a special Thank You to Graconius, my pal over at the Comic Book Revolution message board for resizing my logo so that I can use it on various other social media sites!  Really appreciate it!

Hope you all like the Logo!  That’s all my doing but the resizing of it was kicking my butt.

S&FwM Logo

It looks super simple but after working with it for a couple hours, I’ve sort of fallen in love with it.

. . .

If anyone is thinking of buying Captain Marvel 6, from 2000, because comicbookdb stated Kitty was in it – don’t.  She’s like the only main X-Man not present.  I have since took her off the issue there.  Storm, Jean, Marrow and Rogue are the only ladies present.  Unfortunately, Lonestar Comics isn’t interested in buying it from me for another four months.  Maybe.

. . .

Also, also – last night on Big Brother, the ‘half the house’ alliance Bomb Squad was created and their weakest leak was revealed.  Devin, making decisions without the group and I also forgot that he was one of the parents in the house.

We learn how the nominations works, one HoH goes first so the second one has to pick people from who is left.  That does make sense.  Caleb’s side won so Frankie is no longer the HoH so we are back down to one HoH.

Big Brother 16 Cast

Posted by John Klein III on June 29, 2014
Posted in: Reality Television. Tagged: BB16, Big Brother. Leave a comment

Now that we have officially met the cast on the show, here is my take on the cast :

The Two Heads of Household –

I really like Frankie, he is high energy.  His eyes remind me of my old pal, Jonathan, but he’s not him.

The other HoH, Caleb, is a beast.  Though I feel bad that people kept giving him all the props when Hayden did just as good, just didn’t hold out as long by a minute.

My favorite thus far, will probably be Brittany – maybe I just have a thing for ladies on Big Brother named, Brittany?  I’m not sure.  Though Britney Haynes spells it differently.  Also, this Brittany will never be as good as Britney.  That’s just a fact.  Hopefully she does well though, in the house and doesn’t turn out to be a horrible person.  She is also a mother of three and newly divorce.

Hayden, in the confessional, referred to Amanda as looking like Whitney Houston.  In what world is that a compliment?

Christine is from Tuscon, Arizona – which is close enough to Yuma, that I will be cheering for her.  She seems funny enough.

There are some interesting noses going on in this season’s cast.  I like cute noses so my eyes go looking for that.  Is that weird?  I don’t think so.

Cody, I don’t have any feelings on just yet.  Seems like a decent guy.

Derrick, isn’t telling people that he is a police officer.  Which would be fine but don’t tell people that you work in a different field.  That will always back fire.

Devin, the guy who looks like the Rock – some say but I don’t really see it or I’m fighting seeing it, is another parent in the house along with Derrick and Brittany.  I’m not sure if I could go into the house right now with Walker Dennis being so young.  Maybe once he is older (like two years old) but I would miss the little guy too much.

Donny, super funny!  He needs to learn some names though! Also, he is the oldest in the house so hopefully he doesn’t fall into the trap of house caretaker.

Jocasta, now that I’m hearing her name, all I think about is the would be wife to Ultron, Marvel character.  I like her bow ties, I’m just waiting to hear if she is a Doctor Who fan.

Joey, poor Joey.  She’s the first in Team America, which I’m not a fan of them knowing about each other.  I’m also surprised that America choose her, as I thought Frankie would a sure bet.  Maybe his fans didn’t want to screw up his game, that makes sense.  Also, if Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin are not there, are they really Team America?  Or awesome puppets?  Now that I think of it, Haas / Benjamin were Team Angle and World’s Greatest Tag Team, they were never ‘Team America.”

Nicole, I have high hopes for but now I feel like she’s going to quickly become background.

Paola, as I’m not sure if one is suppose to type it Pao Pao, though that looks like it could be right.  She was my favorite of the first eight but I like how the second eight pretty much broke up any plans of having it be two sides of the house against each other.  If the house guests were separated by more than just a night, that might have been a bigger divide but it makes sense that they will all just become a group of sixteen instead of two groups of eight.

Victoria, I liked how Frankie approached her and once she was first out, he seems to have ignored her to go with his fellow HoH.

Zach, I keep getting Dan vibes from him, I believe it is the air but he doesn’t seem right in the house.  He’s too in people’s faces or he’s faking a personality in the house but the dairy room shows a different calmer side to him.  He’s like a worst Dan.

Not sure who else America will choose to be in an alliance with Joey.  I imagine America is now thinking about who will go with Joey well.  Frankie and Victoria would be my initial idea.

I must admit with the Battle of the Block, that I completely misheard Chenbot about the rules.  Speaking of which, what the heck was Chenbot wearing this past two days?  The first day red dress made her look way too skinny and the second pink dress didn’t flatter her at all.  Wardrobe must take better care of her, she’s the host and the boss’ wife!  Get it together, production!

So the way Battle of the Block works is that the two HoH nominate two people each.  Then those two groups of two will compete in that competition and the winning duo will be safe from further nominations and also, the HoH who nominated them is put into the pool of candidates.  So if one of the other two losers (not winners?) wins PoV (Power of Veto), then they are off the block and the two previous winners will be safe from going up onto the block.  But now the losing HoH can be put up as a candidate.  But if the remaining two initial nominees don’t win POV or one of the other four players (one of whom will be the winning HoH) don’t take one of those two off the block, then this whole extra competition doesn’t really amount to anything.

The schedule will be – HoH competitions (with maybe the last two standing, winning. maybe?) next, the four nominations, Battle of the Block competition, then the POV competition, lastly the live eviction episode.  With maybe the Have and Have Not competition thrown in from time to time.  I have no idea how one live episode and two edited episodes is enough to cover all of that, plus the interactions.  Though the live episode does cover competitions as well but with time allotted to Chenbot’s forced interactions and lousiness, it is a lot of show to cram into forty minutes.

Hopefully my Anti-Chenbot opinions don’t keep me from being eligible to be on the show.  Though my wife doesn’t want me on the show but I really want to be on it, so badly!  I think I would do quite well on it.

Speaking of my wife, shout outs to her for explaining the Battle of the Block, as I misheard the one key sentence and thought it was a completely different result.  I thought the winning side will take down the losing side’s HoH, hence why the HoH would want to put up good competitors to keep themselves safe but the winning duo takes down the HoH that originally nominated them, so now the HoH will want to nominate weaker competitors to keep themselves safe.  Either way works but only one is the way Chenbot explained it.

So now that I’ve typed all of this, I’m not sure how often I will do BB16 posts.  I thought it might be pretty regularly but I was thinking of how last year, I would have had lots to say about each episode but I’m not expecting much hijinks and drama from this year.  Which seems to be the point, that they cast older than 24 year olds and it is the nicest diverse cast they have had in a while.

We will see how the season goes but I am super excited!

This season’s Brittany is one good looking lady but her profile picture does not do her any justice.

BB16 Brittany

Here is what she really looks like :

BB16 Brittany

BB16 Brittany 2

You are welcome

Hopefully in tonight’s episode, we see more of her and less of everyone else!

Also, that she doesn’t go the route of Porsche from Big Brother 13 – and be the hot girl who eventually just dons sweats and eats all day.  Oh, how production must have been disappointed with her after the third week.

Film – X-Men : Days of Future Past

Posted by John Klein III on June 28, 2014

X-Men_Days_of_Future_Past_poster

Thanks to our dear friends, the Russells, Tina & Damian plus kids,  for watching Walker Dennis – my wife and I were able to watch the movie!

I was pretty shocked to see the trailer for The Giver.  I love that book so much.  Ever since Mrs. Elken had us read it freshman year at Kofa High School.  Go Kings!  I have always imagine the community being low tech, instead of being so advance like the trailer shows.  I will have to reread the book before watching the movie.  I wonder if they already have plans to adapt the sequel.

The X-Men film was so good!  I was a tad bit afraid that I knew too much going in, but I really didn’t.

I did happened to read someone writing that the film undid X3, but once I realize what I was reading – I closed the window.  More on the implications later.

I like how Bryan Singer, the director, kept the slow fade from the X in the FOX logo, it is a super small and minor detail but I liked it.

The film opens with the footage shown at the MTV Movie awards, but that footage was scaled way back.

The future Sentinels hand the X-Men their butts!

Kitty takes Bishop into a room and time phases him to weeks prior to this moment.  We get to see Future X-Men in China.  Kitty explains not how she time phases but why.

Kitty’s squad goes to a base.  Sentinels find them.  They get their butts handed to them, they time phase away and avoid going back to that location – I guess.

Only Bishop actually has his mind time phases, it just looks like Kitty does too but that is only because he changes history.  So this squad is constantly destroying time, on a pretty regular biweekly schedule.  But when the present and the world has been essentially destroyed by Sentinels, how can things get worst?

I wonder if Bishop has ever abused this foreseeable undo button.  He gets in an argument with Blink, it gets heated, feelings are hurt – the next day, the past week never happened.  He probably did that at least once.

So Kitty explains how they are phasing through time.  Not how she does or how she started to do it, but that’s fine.  I guess.

Xavier and the senior staff have pinpointed the moment that set everybody down this path.  Mystique killed Bolivar Trask back in 1973.  Why it takes over 40 years to now get bad, is beyond me.  Shouldn’t the first few movies been worried about Sentinels?  It seemed from the flashback that it didn’t take long for the government to work her DNA into the Future Sentinels.  But let’s not worry too much about how this film effects the earlier films – just yet.

They need to send someone back in time.  Kitty is shocked that they want to do this for decades as she may be able to send someone back two months if she pushes herself.  The problem is that the strain is unbearable at longer distances of time.  Xavier is the idea candidate but he won’t survive the procedure.  Wolverine volunteers to do it.

I really like how Hugh Jackman has the grey temples to hair.  I also like how much screen time Ellen Page has gotten to this point as well.

Wolverine lays down and Kitty tells him to think happy thoughts.  If he ever loses focus, there is a chance that he can bounce back to the present.  Also, if he is successful, that only he will remember how this timeline occurred.

Also Kitty lets us know that the past and the present are going to still be moving at the same speed – just because.

So he goes back in time and seems to wake up, with no problems so Kitty’s warning a few minutes ago seems to have been for naught.  Or was it?

So this may have been my wife’s favorite part of the film – once she heard it was in the film, she got really excited to see it.  Wolverine gets out of bed, completely nude and we get to see Jackman booty!  That guy is ripped!

As soon as we see that he woke up on a water bed, we knew the water bed / claws gag was coming.

This was one of my story concerns once I thought about it a few months ago.  Sure, Wolverine can wake up in the past and do what he has to do but what about the life he was leading at the time?  If this days more than a few days, isn’t that going to cause a ripple in time?

We learn, via goons coming into the room, that Wolverine was the bodyguard to the boss’s daughter.  He wasn’t suppose to sleep with her.  So he probably was just going to stay on her security detail, I imagine.

That’s the other thing, Wolverine’s memories are Swiss cheese so he wouldn’t know where he was when he woke up.  Actually, I guess his memories are more like a blank wall as he doesn’t even have glimpses of those – outside of Weapon X related memories.

So the year is now 1973.  They keep saying fifty years from now so the present is – 2023, well beyond X-Men 3 or The Wolverine.

Once Wolverine has his bearings, he heads to the Xavier Mansion.  The place is a mess!  Weeds are all over.  He knocks on the door and we see Beast but that he is in his human form. So weird seeing Nicholas Hoult now, after I’ve seen About a Boy, I just keep seeing him as the man version of that little boy.  Like, his eyes haven’t changed at all or his face proper.  It is strange.

He denies that Xavier is there, Wolverine punches him in the face and walks on by.  Beast turns blue and they have a quick fight – it is pretty awesome seeing Beast bouncing around the place.

Xavier comes down the stairs, due to all of the noise, and we see that he is walking.  The serum that lets him walk also blocks his memory, so he has to take Wolverine at his word about the future time travel silliness.

Logan explains to Xavier and McCoy that they will need Magneto.  Apparently in this timeline, people think Magneto killed President Kennedy.  You’ll think that would be brought up later in the other movies but it isn’t.

So they have to break into the Pentagon.  Wolverine tells that that he knows a guy who could help but he’ll be a kid at this point.

So they go to the Maximoff house and we meet Quicksilver, played by Peter Evans – from every season of American Horror Story.  I really like his portrayal of Quicksilver.  Instead of being a real jerk, he is a playful guy.

Meanwhile, Trask is being turn down for any additional funding for his Sentinel program.  One of the government officials is Chris Claremont!  That is pretty awesome.  A few short years later, he will be living down the street from Jean Grey!

The team frees Magneto, really Quicksilver does most of the work.  Once he sees Magneto control metal, he comments that his mother knew a guy once who could do that.  That’s as much as a hint as we are going to get – but it is awesome!

Once Xavier sees his old friend again, he punches him in the mouth.  They get surrounded by soldiers and Magneto learns that Xavier doesn’t have access to his powers.  Quicksilver saves everybody here with some fast reflexes.

In Saigon, as this is only days after America backed out of the Vietnam War, we get Mystique getting a few other mutants out of a research tent.  We also get a young William Stryker, making his third appearance in a movie – X2, Wolverine Origins and now this one.

Mutants being used as research are Havok, Toad, maybe Pestilence and a fourth guy.  He seemed like Quill but his mutant power is to make people pass out – as it is shown.  These mutants are saved thanks to Mystique and now she is off to Paris.

Mystique shifts into Trask’s form and breaks into his office.  Here we see autopsy files about the dead former teammates of Magneto and Mystique.  I sort of like the new Mystique pain job, I know it was so much easier on Jennifer Lawrence this time around.  It is essentially a blue suit with paint on the arms and legs – from what I understand.  I still don’t get why they don’t just put her in a white dress and thus, save even more time in the make up chair.

The boys get on a plane and we get some great moments here.  Magneto wanting to play chess with Xavier.  Xavier telling Magneto that he abandoned them and this sets Magneto off.  He starts crashing the plane, and he lets Xavier know that it is in fact he, who abandoned them!  All of his team are dead now – Azazrel and Angel, even Emma is dead!  Which may be the worst thing to have happened between First Class and this section of Days of Future Past.

In Paris, where the American peaceful exit from Vietnam is suppose to be made official.  Trask is looking to the Vietnamese government for funding.  There is a great gag when Trask shows off his mutant detector and learns there is a mutant amongst them!  Mystique had taken a form of a general and now is about to live the moment where she kills Trask.

Trask is portrayed by Peter Dinkage and he does such a great job in the role!

Just as she is about to shoot Trask, Magneto stops the bullet and flings it back at her, piercing her leg.  She jumps out of a window to try to escape.  Magneto is out to kill her as he doesn’t want the future Logan is going on about.  I did like how easy he just accepted the notion.  Also, there was a nice moment earlier when Xavier finally recognized Wolverine from that bar in First Class.

Beast starts fighting Magneto, as he doesn’t want Mystique killed.  Once Mystique lands on the ground, we start getting news footage and she appears so blue on these videos.  We even see that Bryan Singer is working a camera!  Nice cameo!

We see what happens when Wolverine loses focus.  He sees the young William Stryker and starts having flashbacks which sends him back, partially into the future.  Once in the future, he pops his metal claws and slashes Kitty!  The cut is deep!  I started getting worried that we were going to Kitty die on screen.  As we already know, Wolverine has to be successful in his mission – so it is just a matter of watching it happen but I don’t want to see Kitty die on screen, even if it gets undone twenty minutes later.  I do like how we get glimpses of the present day X-Men.

Back with the Kitty losing too much blood, couldn’t Bobby have frozen over the wound to stabilize it?  I know it would be ice cold for her, so she may break her concentration but at least she wouldn’t be dying.  Plus, he could make it gradually colder, so he wouldn’t be a jerk.

Also, I guess at some point after The Wolverine, he gets his metal claws back.  I wonder if they are adamantium or just some cheaper metal?

Xavier has to deal with the present day Wolverine, which I like the acting on James McAvoy as he has to figure out that the Wolverine isn’t his Wolverine.  He tells him he is experiencing a bad acid trip and this calms him down.  Future Wolverine kicks in eventually.

Magneto gives chase and I do love so much how effortless Michael Fassbender shows how easy his powers come to him.  Once again, I could watch an entire movie of Young Magneto.

Beast gives chase again and a second blue mutant is too much for some people, as people start fleeing the scene.

Nonetheless, this did not happen in the original timeline.  So time is definitely changed, I guess it was as well when they broke Magneto out but there is no denying that mutants exist now as apparently the Cuban Missile Crisis is not taught in schools with how mutants saved that day.

Speaking of which, Magneto tells Xavier that he didn’t kill the president.  He was trying to save him as Kennedy was one of them.  I imagine he means that he was a supporter and not an actual mutant.  They don’t get into it, at all.

We learn later that only a small sample of Mystique’s blood was found on the scene so Trask gets to see what her DNA is made up of.  It isn’t enough but it is enough to make him want more.

President Nixon, wanting a defense against powerful mutants, agrees to Trask’s funding request.

Magneto gets confronted by Mystique, they are done, professionally!

Magneto breaks into Trask Industries shipping yard and follows the trains that contain the eight Sentinels.  They are made without metal so he inserts a bunch of metal into them.  I thought for sure this was leading to the Sentinels attacking Magneto but the movie doesn’t go in that direction.

Back at the mansion.  Xavier has opted for not taking the serum anymore.  His powers come back and overwhelmed him.  He tries to use Cerebro but it is too much for him.  Hank leaves to check on the power generator.  Wolverine lets Xavier read his mind and Xavier gets to see Wolverine’s future (all related to Jean, for the most part).  Also we get the awesome “I don’t want your future” line.

Next, somehow, Xavier is able to enter Wolverine’s mind and go to the future and have a nice chat with his future self.  At first, this looks like it was filmed through a fish bowl (and that lasts a bit too long) but it clears up and they get to talk to each other.  They call each other, Charles, which I find odd but they are old fashion, I suppose.

Old Xavier tells Young to seek out Mystique and not to give up on her.

Young gets back in his head, uses Cerebro and speaks with Mystique while she is in an airport.  He seems to get through to her but she is determined to kill Trask for all of the mutant murders he has committed.

Beast tells the guys that he is recording all Paris news coverage from the three networks plus PBS.  Wolverine laughs at the era of only three networks.  Hanks gets into this great discussion about how there is a theory that time will always correct itself – so Logan’s mission may just be a bust.  The events may change dates but they will still happen, at some point.

Mystique is on her way to Washington DC, as Nixon is going to have a huge press conference to unveil the Sentinels.

Magneto breaks back into the Pentagon and we see that they have a war room of found items at the Cuban Missile Crisis.  Havok’s shirt and Magneto’s helmets are two items there.  He steals his helmet in an awesome moment!  Now Xavier can’t stop him!

As Hank, Xavier and Logan get to the press conference, that is taking place on the White House yard, we get a call back to Wolverine and his war on metal detectors that started in the first X-Men film and was repeated in The Wolverine.  This time, he just walks on through, as he doesn’t have any metal to speak of, on or in his person.

Now begins a pretty awesome sequence, the big one for the movie.  Magneto lifts a baseball stadium and crashes it around the White House.  Also, he turns the Sentinels against the humans in the audience – which is pretty smart move.

As strange looking as the future Sentinels are, it is a blast seeing the movie version of the old school Sentinels in action.  Who would have thought we’ll see the day!

This is all after Mystique tried to kill Trask again but in the form of some dude.

So the President, Trask and security service all run to the secret bunker that is under the carpet in the Oval Office.

Trask turns on his mutant detector and detects Mystique, still in the form of the guy she used just moments earlier to try to kill Trask.  One would think she would have taken a second form at this point.  That’s what I would have done.

Before anyone can respond to Mystique’s presence, Magneto rips the bunker out (it looks sort of cool) and has a real Magneto moment.

oh, before this, Wolverine with his silly bone claws, tries to hurt Magneto and he flings Logan into a nearby lake – almost drowning him.

Magneto turns all the cameras to him and makes an awesome speech.  The speech makes a great point about how the world has only really seen two mutants (Magneto and Mystique) and only a small portion of their power, so imagine what teams and hundreds of mutants can accomplish.

Then Nixon comes out and apologizes and wants to work out with Magneto.  The best part of this is that it cuts to Trask and he looks to his left and sees Nixon is still in the bunker.  Mystique has decided to take on the wrath of Magneto and see what is up.

They chat for a bit and then she shoots Magneto, the plastic bullet goes through the side of his neck – the pain is enough to bring him to his knees.  Once there, she takes off his helmet and knocks him out.

During all of this, back to the future, the Sentinels are about to invade the X-Men’s Chinese base.  Magneto comes out to help, he controls the Blackbird and causes it to explode.  It seems to wipe out a bunch.  Storm lets her guard down and gets stabbed, just like in the comic!

Then Colossus gets ripped in half, which I don’t like the guy but ooof, that is a horrible way to go!

Sunspot puts up a good fight but also is killed.

Blink keeps trying to open portals and get the Sentinels to hurt themselves.  I guess she is limited to line of sight portals as why doesn’t she just open a portal at where the Mansion is and leave them a world away.

Blink then gets stabbed by three different Sentinels.  They start making their way to where Kitty is!  Xavier is getting worried as his power is useless.  All they have to defend themselves with is Iceman.  Magneto is back with them but he is slowly dying as he took some debris to the stomach.

Kitty can’t let go of Wolverine as his consciousness is still in the past, even though he is still drowning back there.

Mystique turns her attention back to Trask and the humans and aims her gun.  Xavier tries to talk her down.  This goes on long enough so that in the future, the Sentinels have killed Bobby and are making their way to Kitty!  At this point, I’m getting nervous that Mystique isn’t gong to do the right thing and we are going to lose the greatest fictional character of all time!

Just then, Mystique throws her gun to the ground and walks away.  Just then, Kitty and the gang teleport away.

We see that Xavier has let Magneto get to his feet and he flies away.  Leaving that baseball stadium surrounding the White House!  I wonder if Damage Control gets founded after this or something as they are going to have to tear that down and then rebuild it over back where it belongs.

We learn that the Sentinel program is shut down back in 1973 and that Trask is an embarrassment.

Wolverine wakes up in his bed at the mansion.  He opens the door and sees Bobby and Rogue all smiling.  Kelsey Grammer has a cameo as Beast, it is awesome!

Logan is walking the halls.  Next, we see Kitty and Colossus are hosting a class.  It seems like there are a lot of holographic terminals and such – not sure what makes that possible?

Then Logan gets to Xavier’s office and sees Jean – so we instantly know that X3 didn’t quite happen the way we remember it!  I say that the films still happen just to various degrees of changes.

This reminds me that at one point in the past, Logan makes Xavier promise that if this plan doesn’t work that he will look for “Storm, Jean and Scott” and to teach and guide them.

It looks like Logan is about to go in for a kiss and all of a sudden the great, James Marsden portraying Cyclops !!!! steps into the doorway.  That has to be the best kept secret of the film!  Especially with how Singer and company kept saying he wasn’t in it at all.  His glasses are goofy looking but I don’t care, James Marsden and thus, Cyclops is alive!  The worst part of X3 has been fixed!

So if Jean is alive, how much of a change is The Wolverine?  It isn’t like Logan is dating Jean so he could still be Mariko.  But he didn’t kill Jean, so he wouldn’t be exiled in the great Canadian wilderness, so maybe Shingen just sends a letter or sends Yukio to the mansion and Logan just goes as an invited guest.  That’s probably the simplest solution.  I am curious how X3 is changed.

Xavier doesn’t die (or does, it doesn’t really matter as he gets his body back regardless), the cure may still happen but Rogue doesn’t take it for whatever reason.  The movie ends once Magneto is taken down with the cure via the X-Men.  His powers come back as they do.

The love birds leave and Logan enters to speak with Xavier.  At first, Xavier is confused but then he remembers.  The way Patrick Stewart’s eyes open, with revelation – is outstanding!  He’s been waiting a long for for this Logan to finally show up.

The year still has to be 2023, right?

Xavier tells Wolverine that he is the teacher of History, which is an awesome shout out to what he taught in Jason Aaron’s Wolverine and the X-Men.  But how fun would it have been if he actually ended up teaching Art, like the joke in X3?

Xavier asks what the last thing Logan remembers and he tells him drowning and we see what happens next with 1973 Wolverine.

Stryker has fished him out of the water.  But it really is Mystique as Stryker!?!  She can’t be Stryker the entire time, as they share many scenes together in X2 – unless that movie is now different.  She gets her sweet revenge for setting this entire film into the process so she has him entered into the Weapon X program.  So the events of Wolverine Origins might still be untouched.

I imagine that Mystique starts the charade, gets exposed by the real Stryker finding out how he’s been in two places so often, he proves himself worthy of whatever position Mystique has gotten him and we move on.

Then the credits start to role.

I was chit chatting with my wife so I missed the order of the single card titles.  I do know that Ellen pages comes between Anna Paquin’s Rogue and Peter Dinkage’s Trask.  I would say that must be how the single cards worked out too but they have been different for whatever reason.

Oh, during the moment when the world was watching if Mystique was going to kill Trask, we get a glimpse of the Maximoff home and we see Quicksilver holding a much younger red head girl, who has to be Wanda or Polaris with normal color hair.  I hope it is Polaris just so the ages can be right.

There was also a moment when Trask asks Stryker how his son, Jason, is doing – I wonder if Trask already knows Jason’s secret at this point.

Then the Post-Credits scene.  Apocalpyse is using telekinesis to build pyramids as the slaves are bowing and worshipping him.  When the camera pans around to him, we can see to our right four horsemen, so that is awesome!  I also like that he is a blue skinny kid.  Not that he is skinny but that he is blue.  It is a pale shade of blue, but its enough.

X-Men Days of Future Past Apocalypse

The slaves are chanting – En Sabah Nur – which is just awesome to hear pronounced in a life action film.  This movie is suppose to complete the First Class Trilogy and take place in the 80s, Singer is suppose to be directing it too.  But that is what we thought about X3 too.  Rumor has it that young Scott, Jean and Storm are suppose to join the team for this too.  I wonder if they can time it right so that the Jean from X3 can be cast but I’m sure she will either be too old by then or they’ll want whoever is famous at that time to play Jean in the movie.

Overall, I really like the movie.  My wife asked me if Lockheed was going to show up in this, imagine if he did, that would have been awesome!  Just at the tail end section, have him laying on Kitty’s shoulders as she teaches a course.

Transformers 22

Writer Bob Budiansky

Penciler Don Perlin

Inkers Ian Akin & Brian Garvey

Letterer Hans IV

Colorist Nel Yomtov

Cover Dated November 1986

Cover by Herb Trimpe

I figure I might as well do a post that ties in with the latest Transformers film. If I don’t review it now, when will I?

I’ve only ever seen the first live action film and that was enough for me. I thought I was a huge Transformers / GI Joe fan growing up but the more I hear how other people talk about them, I realized I must have only been liking the properties for being staples of the 80s.

I was more of a Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles / He-Man fan, that is where all of my parents’ money went into, especially Ninja Turtles.

I did like the 80s Transformers : The Movie, and that soundtrack has to be in the top ten greatest soundtracks of all time but that’s probably the most I’ve ever seen of the franchise.

I was one of those that was all types of upset when Michael Bay casted (I’m not sure he was barely involved in the decision) Peter Cullen as the voice of Optimus Prime but not Frank Welker for Megatron. Such a disappointment.

When I first read this, I was way confused and nothing made sense, let’s see if that’s still the case.  Turns out, it is super reader friendly, I must have just breezed through it, thinking it wasn’t really a book I was buying for the contents.   The issue really benefits with coming out during the mid-80s where the editor caption boxes are a plenty, even citing which story elements were carried over from the previous issue.  I also like how all the Transformers call each other by their names, when they first see each other.  I didn’t have to guess at all at who each character was.

Cover has Menasor as the representative. Not Megatron as I’ve been under the impression. Makes sense as it is Menasor’s first appearance in this comic.  Also, once I read the issue, Megatron’s helmet (if that is what we call it) is colored dark blue instead of matching his face.  So now he looks like the evil version of Optimus Prime (from the neck up).

The cover is also the only place to see Menasor’s face properly.  In the issue, we get all sorts of angels but not a clear shot of his face.

Menasor is the combined group of the five Stunticons of the Decepticons.  When I was initially doing my research of this issue, I found these websites that were pretty useful :

There is a Wiki for everything now!

The Transformers Wiki :

http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Menasor_%28G1%29

Wikipedia :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stunticons

This site has some a pretty good review of the issue, plus pictures!

http://www.yousephtanha.com/blog/2013/07/23/transformers-review-issue-22-heavy-traffic/

Of course, then I just simply read the comic and it was super easy but it is nice to see where characters land in the mythos.

There is a good version of Menasor, his name is Superion.  The Autobots who form him are called – the Aerialbots.  Superion’s first appearance was the previous issue.  All characters could have been on the cartoon first though, that I wouldn’t know.

Now onto the issue :

Inside front cover ad is for M&Ms, so strange seeing the non-modern day characters.

Issue itself opens with Mr. Barnett and Circuit Breaker reviewing footage of Transformers and some police vehicles.  Circuit Breaker, though a robot sounding name, is actually a woman.  We get a one panel origin story.  She was a genuis who was caught up in an explosion that left her crippled.  The explosion was done during a fight between the Autobots and Decepticons.  She created a cyborg suit so she can still walk around.  Why she doesn’t wear clothes over the suit, is beyond me.

Circuit Breaker hates robots, which I get.  Barnett is wondering if they should be giving the robots a second chance – some seem to be okay.

They mention their team, RAAT, which stands for – Rapid Anti-robot Assault Team.

Barnett started his own agency, III – Information and Intelligence Institution.  I do enjoy how often these captions appear – one per page thus far.

Circuit Breaker’s incident happened in issue 6.  Barnett tries to give her a bonus for capturing some robots, she doesn’t want the money – only justice!

They walk by a wall with the captured robots heads on it.  Those Transformers are dead.

Meanwhile, at the Ark – the home of the Autobots.  It is their ship that crashed into Mount St. Hilary, the Oregan volcano.

Rachett, the Autobot medic, is looking over Optimus Prime.  We start the process of all robots calling calling each other by name, as quickly as they can.

Bombshell, a miniature Decepticon, who is in the Ark, biding its time.  It has been there since last issue.  Optimus Prime was injured back in issue 19.

Rachett turns his back, and Bombshell makes its move.  Bombshell injects Optimus Prime with an item it calls, a cerebo-shell.  It believes it should give it full control over the Autobot leader.  Turns out, it doesn’t have control over him, but it can read his thoughts.

Optimus Prime enters a room where Wheeljack is injecting Skids with a chemical tracker.  They plan on following the trail of Transformer fuel that Donny Finklerberg found last issue.

In issue 18, seven Autobots landed on Earth from their home planet of Cyberton.  Donny, a human, told them this after he escaped from the Decepticons.

Optimus Prime sends Donny and Skids out to follow the trail.  Donny is reluctant but they take his wallet with a huge check he was given, so he has to go along on the mission.  In issue 15, Walter Barnett paid Donny to play Robot-Master for III.  This is the only reference that isn’t further elaborated on.

Optimus Prime instructs Wheeljack to ready the Aerialbots for matrixing – the process that gives the robots life.

We cut to Eastern Wyoming, at the former coal mining plant that is now the base of the Decepticons.

Honestly, I have to give it up to Mr. Budiansky, he wrote a perfect issue that never leaves me with unanswered questions.

Megatron, who has dark blue hands to match his helmet, is speaking to Soundwave.  Megatron isn’t disappointed by the lack of control over Optimus Prime, they can still take advantage of the cerebro shell.

Last issue, the Aerialbots were sent to the Hoover Dam and performed poorly as their programming wasn’t complete.  Optimus Prime had Wheeljack swipe their old programming and is about to give them a new chance at life.  When he does it, Megatron uses the cerebro shell to hijack the matrix to grant life to his Stunticons.

Meanwhile, Skids, is in his shape of a blue van, and Donny are following the trail.  They witness a vehicle swerve off the road and into power lines.  Skids transforms into his proper shape and saves the lady driver.

The lady driver goes on the news with her story.  This gives RAAT a radius of where one rogue robot is.  Megatron also sees this coverage and sends out the Stunticons out to undo the good press the Autobots are receiving.  I suppose at this point, the two robot fractions have been able to keep their war a secret one.

The Stunticons are, individually – Dead End, Wildrider, Breakdown, Drag Strip and their commander, Motormaster.

Donny isn’t sure if it was worth blowing their cover.  They pull into a motel.  Skids reveals that all Transformers have a button that keeps them in their transformed state, which they do to conserve energy.

The next day, as they are driving – the Stunticons find them.  Instead of attacking Skids, they start destroying all the other vehicles on the road.  Skids requests emergency reinforcements.

Just then, the Stunticons further transforms into Menasor.  RAAT shows up and barely causes a distraction.  Circuit Breaker, alone, does better than her team.

The Arialbots show up, they are – Slingshot, Air Raid, Fireflight, Skydive and their leader, Silverbot.  I’m sure we are suppose to note the difference between leader and commander.

The Arialbots transform into their giant combined form of, Superion.  They start fighting like giant robots do.

Donny tries to reason with Circuit Breaker, telling her that there are good robots and bad.  Her point about how much destruction, still stands, as cars start being used as grenades.

Barnett rescues Circuit Breaker from a failed attack of hers on the giant weapons.

Issue ends with Donny pressing Skids button for the night, then calling Barnett, asking how much he would pay for a Transformer, with no muss.  $50,000.00 seems reasonable for betrayal.

Pretty good issue, I have no idea what happens next.  I imagine that the Autobots win and the Decepticons lose.

My Father’s Day Comics have come in!  Wooooooooo!

Now, just to let you all know, that I have several current comics ready to be reviewed and my goal here was to always do the Current comics and I have maybe ten of those ready and then have enough maybe 30 back issues ready to be reviewed so it might be quite some time before you see these comics being reviewed but they will come eventually.

So excited to start cataloging these!

So my wishlist is going from 322 comics down 47 comics, making my current list – 275.

Once again, thank you to my lovely wife for letting me buy these back issues and thank you to Walker Dennis for making me a father, thus I got these comics!

Also, http://www.milehighcomics.com for having the Sweetheart sale and making my money go as far as it could!

Turns out, I ordered two copies of New Mutants Volume Three Issue 50!  Which is doubly irritating as I could have bought maybe five more comics.  Lonestar Comics is not interested in buying it, not for another 24 months.  Oh dear

Alternate Universes

Today is my wife’s birthday, so happy birthday Kristie!

Her request to either not do a post at all or at least a simple sentence of ‘out with wife’ but I couldn’t find a graphic like those ‘gone fishing’ signs.

Another request was to write an article about how alternate universes are dumb. Which she doesn’t like on principle. She thinks comics should just have their own universe and not have splintered ones as those just exist to grab more money.   I haven’t told her about how DC’s whole deal is alternate Earths but I’m not a DC guy so there is no reason to really bring it up.

My Kitty Pryde, Lockheed and Magik collection has just recently broke the 1900 mark.

My collection would be shorter if it wasn’t for these alternate universes by :

Age of Apocalypse 3 issues
Age of Apocalypse The Chosen 1 issue
Age of Ultron 1 issue
All New Ultimates 1 issue
Amazing X-Men 1 issue
Askani’son 1 issue
Astonishing X-Men Ghost Boxes 1 issue
Blink 2 issues
Cataclysm Ultimates Last Stand 4 issues
Cataclysm Ultimate X-Men 1 issue
Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe 1 issue
Earth X 1 issue
Exiles Volume One 36 issues
Exiles Volume Two 1 issue
Exiles Volume Three 1 issue
Galactic Guardians 1 issue
Generation Next 4 issues
GeNext 2 issues
Marvel Adventures Spider-Man 1 issue
Marvel Age Spider-Man Team-Up 1 issue

Which is a total of 381 comics which at 3 dollars a piece is $1,143 which is a very rough estimate of how much all of those comics cost to a varyingly difference.

381 comics are also two and a half short comic book boxes so there is that too.

Grant it, the Age of Apocalypse version of Kitty is worthy of following and I would say the same of Ultimate Kitty as well as the X-Men Forever version. The Magik that was in Exiles was fun to follow while she was alive. I simply adore Mutant X, the only time I’ve ever really followed Havok.

It is hard to narrow down what is a imaginary story and what is an alternate universe or alternate timeline story. Plus I like the idea of seeing the base personality of Kitty’s and how that corresponds with the world she happens to be in.

Also, at this point, I’m a little pot committed. Would it have just been easier to be a fan of Uncanny X-Men and only buying that one title, maybe it would be. That would make crossovers difficult or super fun of an experience – pending on how it was structured.

But whenever I’m at home, I have to make sure that I never talk about the Ultimate universe as she knows for sure that is an alternate universe.

Now, should Marvel just be only creating comics within their proper universe, that could be an argument worthy of being made. A little late now for that though but even the Ultimate Universe has created alternate timelines like the Marvel Zombie timeline and the Supreme Power timeline.

The list above also just represents the titles and not individual comics that take place in the proper timeline that also cross overed to other titles. I’m thinking mostly of titles like X-Men Die by the Sword which was a crossover between New Excalibur and New Exiles.

Also, not included is my Wishlist – which would also be decreased without the alternate timelines or futures

311 total on my Wishlist (counting variants)

All New Ultimates 1 issue
Bullet Points 1 issue
Cataclysm Ultimates Last Stand 1 issue
Daredevil End of Days 1 issue
Deadpool Kills Deadpool 1 issue
Marvel Universe vs the Avengers 1 issue

X-Factor Forever 1 issue
X-Men Forever 2 issues
X-Men Forever 2 1 issue
X-Men Alpha 1 issue
X-Men Phoenix Legacy of Fire 1 issue
X-Treme X-Men Volume Two 1 issue

That’s 54 issues right there! Some of those are variants as well but still.

Life would be easier but not as much fun without alternate universes. Luckily, they don’t invade us nearly as much as we invade them.

Big Brother 16

There are only two reality shows I ever want to be one. One of them is MTV’s Road Rules, which doesn’t exist so that dream will never come true. Which I don’t get, as one would imagine that Road Rules would be a better testing ground for future candidates in those Challenges and Duels competition shows. Much better than using the Real World to accomplish that.

Whenenver I hear Natalie Imbruglia’s Torn, I instantly remember the 90s and the Real World clips start rolling through my mind’s eye. No other song does that for me better than Torn.

Such a good song!

The other reality show that I would love to be on is CBS’s Big Brother. There’s something about it that just speaks to me. I feel like I could reall excel at it.

The only problem for me will be having to tolerate Chenbot. Is she the worst part of the show? Yes. Could her part easily be done by the voice over guy who does the Wednesday and Sunday episodes? Yes. Is she married to CBS Corporation President and CEO, Leslie Moonves? Yes.

We have been getting the live feeds for the past few years and watched every episode of Big Brother After Dark when it aired on Showtime. We don’t get the TV Guide channel, so we no longer can watch it.

There are some great websites that do an amazing job of following the house guests :

Jamie : http://big-brother-16-blog.blogspot.com/

Dingo : http://www.hamsterwatch.com/

Matthew : http://bigbrothernetwork.com/

These two are the best websites for to follow the show with!

Just for my use of not having to go back to Wikipedia every year, here are the winners of previous seasons :

Season One                         Eddie McGee
Season Two                         Will Kirby
Season Three                         Lisa Donahue
Season Four                         Jun Song                         Ex-Factor
Season Five                         Drew Daniel                         Project DNA
Season Six                         Maggie Ausburn             Secret Partner
Season Seven                         Mike “Boogie” Malin             All Stars 1
Season Eight                         “Evel” Dick Donato             Rivals
Season Nine                         Adam Jasinski             Couples
Season Ten                         Dan Gheesling             Back to Basics
Season Eleven             Jordan Lloyd                         Cliques
Season Twelve             Hayden Moss                         Sabateur
Season Thirteen             Rachel Reilly                         Returning Cast
Season Fourteen             Ian Terry                         Coaches
Season Fifteen             Andy Herren                         Three Nominees / MVP

Season One is the season that I watched on my own. It doesn’t quite count as the format is nothing like what it is now.

Season Two has the second best play of the game as the winner, Will Kirby. Some would say he is by far the greatest player to play the game, but he is a close second to Dan Gheesling.

Season Two through Six, I didn’t watch at all and am obsess with finding a way to watch these episodes!

Season Three is when Power of Veto started.

Season Four is when Big Brother started becoming the show we will recognize it to be.

Season Seven is the season I started with, it is also the season my wife and I started dating. So I missed most of the season but the first episode I saw had NPH (Neil Patrick Harris) on it so I was hooked. So I’ve been a Big Brother fan since August 29, 2006. He was promoting the great How I Met Your Mother, which was a new show way back then!

Janelle’s moment in the first elimination in the finale where she let go of the strap and regrabbed it as she was readjusting herself still haunts me. She didn’t know the buzzer started and so she was eliminated in the very first two seconds. I still say they should have just restared the competition. That is brutal!

Season Eight was Evel Dick’s season, though I mostly remember it for the season with Eric and Jessica as I really like Jessica. She was my first Big Brother crush. Which the show does a pretty good job of finding that one lady that I’m really going to like. Sometimes I pick the wrong one at first but one eventually rises. Those two are still married, as far as I know.

Evil Dick use to host this great show online that was essentially a recap show where he and other former houseguests would come on and talk about the show. I use to really love it but then it started being overly into advertising and it moved to a different website and I couldn’t follow it anymore.

Oh, Season Nine. Its winner, Adam, got fired from his job – this being the first season where I learn that what happens in the game can have serious implications on your real life. He ended up going to jail after his season too, something that started happening to more contestants.

Season Ten gave us Dan, by far the greatest player to ever play this game. Though I didn’t give him that title until Season Fifteen but he really is the greatest player. Is he my favorite player? No, that goes to another player but he is by far my favorite player to win the game.

Season Ten also gave us Jessie, who will have a bigger impact on season eleven as a returning hosueguest but I want to say that ever since this season – he has shown up as a special guest every year since then.  He doesn’t mind making a fool of himself and I imagine production likes that about him.  He may have missed a year but I want to say he is pretty constant.

Another constant that I really like is the Zingbot 3000 – boy do I like those zings!

Season Eleven gave us Jeff and Jordan, and I do love me Jeff Schroeder, he will probably be my third favorite houseguest.

Eleven also gave us Chima, who had a very violent outburst and essentially self destructed and was forced to leave the game, only the third person to be expelled.  This season also had Russell and Ronnie and this weird moment when Russell was being a bully to Ronnie and then later said it was a mutual agreed act.  But Ronnie was seen in the confessional, crying and wanting his wife.  Why pretend to the edit that might not happen?

Also, production did this fun montage with Kevin watching Jeff being the sexy garden boy and that was fun to watch.

Season Twelve, 2010, is when we started really getting into Big Brother, as the live feeds are like $25 and are live almost all the time. When it goes to fishes, is maddening how often it happens but it is well worth it. Those two websites are great about giving you time stamps of when to go back and watch. This season gave us Britney Haynes, by far, my favorite houseguest of all time. She can come back every single season, to either play or host or mentor, I don’t care.

Poor Britney suffered from not being part of the Brigade alliance. Which was a great alliance, not the most exciting to watch but they had the best strategy I’ve ever seen. Have a core group of guys, each guy has an outside friend, so you can have eight votes right there but definitely will know everything that was happening.

Season Twelve might go down as my favorite season as well, as it gave us Brendon and Rachel, and this entire season was so fun to watch. So many different individuals playing the game together and apart and so much was happening! Matt and Regan, Enzo, the whole cast was pretty decent. Lane. Annie and Kathy were the dead weight of the season, Monet too now that I’m looking at the cast. Andrew had a good speech.

Andrew gave a great final speech as did Matt, given several opportunities to make speeches, each one better than the last.  I like players who just have fun with the format.

I want to say this was also the season where Chenbot started interviewing the HoH on Eviction Night and those were extremely awkward.  As awkward as the forced conversations with Chenbot with the houseguests proper.  She really is the worst thing about the show.

If I could ever be on it, I’m not sure if I could pretend and go along with it.

Season Thirteen gave us Jeff and Jordan as well as Brendon and Rachel back. Another fun season to watch. Evel Dick left under mysterious circumstances. He eventually started hosting that show this season.

Oh man, the fear I had of Porsche winning over Rachel because of how catty the jury was, was intense!  The game is all about trying not to let floaters or the weaker member of a duo win and that’s always disappointing!  The main person takes all of the heat and gets eliminated and the other person is left stating that they were crucial to all decisions – it just makes for less than stellar speeches.  Survivor has this problem too!

Lawron made some funny poor decisions too, during this season but it gave us Brendon back for a time – so it worked out.

Season Fourteen, Dan Gheesling became the greatest player of all time this season. Dan’s Funeral, and so many other spectacular moments! Dan’s game though, did make it so that he could never win but Doctor Ian Terry was a great player himself. Plus, more Britney Haynes!

Season Fourteen also gave us Wil Heuser, who is so fun on YouTube. No one has time for two L’s.

youtube.com/user/TheNewWilShow

I keep worrying, with how production didn’t hide how much they loved Frank – that he was going to force another All-Star situation.

Ian’s “get a stepping” to Boogie is pretty classic.

Another awesome moment is when Dan went into Joe’s room, to sleep and Joe started talking to Dan as if he was someone else and started talking to Dan about Dan.  Dan realized he had to shut that down fast and Joe’s attempt to recoup the moment and Dan just telling him to go to sleep is such a great moment.  Only on that show could that happen.

Season Fifteen saw Rachel’s sister, Elissa, come in to play. I was a fan of Amanda at first, but then she started going crazy in the hosue! Really hurt McCrae’s chances.

Wil made this awesome video for the finale :

Pretty much summarizes the season.

His impression of Chenbot is pretty dead on. I never notice her “but first” until he pointed it out.

This season and the fallout with Aaryn and Amanda’s silliness and how much this show ruin their personal lives (both were fired from their jobs and such) really must wake up future contestants that they got to keep their racist nonsense at home. Especially once it is pointed out to you.

GenaMarie’s obsession with Nick was also insane for how little interaction they had together!

. . .

So excited about Season Sixteen! Get ready to expect the unexpected!

On June 16th, Chenbot announced that the house theme is Urban Treehouse.  It looks pretty fun.

On June 18th, last week, Chenbot herself revealed on her show that the following twists will occur :

2 Head of Households (HoH) – I imagine it will only be like that for the first few weeks
4 Nominations each week – two per HoH – so the three nominees from last year must have tested well.  I thought it was a failure as nothing shocking came from those.
The two HoH will have to compete in “Battle of the Block” which is silly as they already competed to become HoH.  I wonder if the loser gets their nominees taken off the block.  Sort of like a Super POV.
Also, America will have a larger role in the game than besides voting for what types of food the Have Nots get to eat for the week.

On June 19th, they announced the cast.  Looks like a bunch of twenty somethings but at least it is a brand new cast.  I like the concept of All Stars and returning guests but I enjoy having a brand new cast and having the old houseguest show up for guest appearances and such.

I should also tell you dear readers, that I’m hoping to follow Big Brother on the blog and throw my voice into the cyberworld.  So you may want to skip those posts.  Or play along!  I feel like my love for the show expands every year with how we do something different and big for it, each new season.

All New X-Men 26

Writer Brian Michael Bendis

Penciler Stuart Immonen

Inker Wade Von Grawbadger

Colorist Marte Gracia

Letterer VC’s Cory Petit

Issue opens with Jean having a nightmare of going full Phoenix.

Jean wakes up and proper Cyclops is there to comfort her.  At first, she thinks it is her Scott but it is Adult Cyclops.

Cyclops tells her that most space adventures are pleasant and she should try another one.  He wishes he could get away.

Cyclops asks about Jean’s new power, he would like to see it eventually.  Cyclops is curious how she is showing a power his Jean never did.  Jean comments that old Jean never had a chance.  Cyclops agrees.

Cyclops finally gets to ask about his younger self.  Jean didn’t get to spend anytime with his father.  Cyclops is jealous of his younger self getting to spend time with his/their father.  Though, he did get a chance to do it with Maddie but he choose to stay on Earth with the X-Men.  That would make a great What If?  I imagine Inferno never happened.

Cyclops wonders why he has no memory of the Original Five coming to the future and hanging out.  Probably as they are creating a separate timeline.

There is a half page ad for the Disney comic, Figment.  So annoying!  Does this comic have Lockheed in it?  No!

Jean likes that she has finally talked to Cyclops.  Jean touches his gloved hand.  Jean likes the man Scott more so than the teen Scott.  Instead of hoping he becomes a good man, she gets to see him as that man.

Then Cyclops completely overreacts and tells her that they can never.  He doesn’t say the word, but I don’t think she was on the verge of making a romantic move on him.

Before he leaves her room, he lets her know that Emma will start training Jean.  Cyclops and Kitty both decided that.  Jean sarcastically states that shouldn’t be awkward as she knows Emma is Scott’s exgirlfiend.

All New X-Men Kitty Cyclops

Cyclops takes two steps out of Jean’s room, when Kitty tells him that that was the last time he will be in Jean’s room, alone.  Cyclops calls her, Katherine, which is odd.  Is he trying to speak to her as a peer or a superior?  He next tries, Kitty, but she isn’t listening.

Angel is flying about when he sees X23 leaving.  Teen Scott is gone, so she is leaving as well.  Did they have more of a relationship than the two hugs we saw?  Seems like an overreaction.  It may be a theme issue.

X23 scares off a bear.  Angel lets her go.  She runs into Teen Scott and he stabs her.

Hank is in his lab, trying to make sense of it all.

In a classic Immonen two page spread, a lot happens and it is all awsome.  Angel tells both the Uncanny students and his All New team that Laura is gone.  Bobby doesn’t know who that is.  Hank finally says, X23, after Bobby asks  third time.  Still no bells.

Hank tries a different route.  The girl they know who isn’t Jean.  Oh, the girl with the claws.  This is what makes young Bobby so great.  Give him only one scene like this an issue, and he can steal the show.  Let’s not Kramer or Barney him.

They look at him stunned.  He’s been calling her, Wolverine’s clone – probably not to her face.  Kitty gets into the room, hearing this last remark.  No wonder Laura left.

Kitty wants Angel to get Laura back.  I have forgotten that the Original Five call her, Professor K, it still doesn’t roll of the tongue.  Though the students are used to saying a title then a letter.

The Uncanny students present are – Ben, Triage and Tempus. Magik is there, as well.

Kitty wants to stop losing team members.

All New X-Men 26 Kitty X23 hurt

Just then, Laura comes crawling back.  She is losing a lot of blood.  She is muttering about a shape shifter.

Tempus suspects Mystique, she is the villain of most books.

Issue ends with the Future Brotherhood of X-Men, that I have also forgot were going to be the villains of this new arc.  Let’s all hope with one writer, this is better than Battle of the Atom.  If not, then what was the point?

Members seen are – Lady Xorn (who I am sure died), Deadpool (also dead), Molly Hayes, Ice Hulk, Xavier Jr. (they remembered he is in a wheelchair now) and Beast.
