So we finally made our way to Missoula, so I was able to visit Muse Comics.  It wasn’t a bad store, they only had year old comics but I was able to get this issue and Guardians of Infinity 4 that I thought I bought a while ago but didn’t.  I bought the second print of this issue, which I’m still debating if that bothers me or not.  Not like I ever plan on reselling this comic so I’m fine with it.

Eight Months After All That Crazy Secret Wars Stuff.  The Guardians, including Pryde, are under the impression that Rocket and Groot are dead.  Which seems silly, to me, especially from Pryde – as she knows so many people who have come back from the dead.

Grimm being, rather grimm, says he isn’t that affected – which seems super messed up.  This is a rushed funeral for crying out loud, have some respect.  So this is eight months later and Grimm has known them that long, so how long have they been missing?  A week or two?  They don’t even have bodies to put in the makeshift coffin.

Pryde gives Drax a moment to reflect on his two would-be fallen allies.  Drax points out that Rocket loved that gun on the table and Groot was a tree person who only said the same words over and over.  With that, Drax walks away.  Agent Venom has been with the two title characters for a few years now (publication years, that is) so he should be pretty sad too.

Pryde pulls a lever and the coffin goes out inot space.

Pryde says a small speech – as she’s amazing and awesome – that covers this page and the next one.  Heroes do live on in the memories of those who they have saved.

Pryde’s speech include show Rocket and Groot can never been replaced.  Which transitions us to Pockets the Mouse and Shrub who only says “Me are Shrub.”

I do own the fourth issue of this series, so I know how this storyline ends.

Pockets and Shrub’s ship flies through the coffin.  Their ship is being chased by another ship.  They finally get to Harren-3, to receive an item.  Th person they are being paid buy sure does look like Groot, if he was one to wear a hood to conceal his identity.

The Next Morning.  Now they are heading towards C-23.  They are going to meet a Lord Rakzoon.  If you pronounce that aloud, you may get a hint of who that is.  Pockets and Shrub think that name is pretty crazy-arse.

Later, On the Planet Where This Crazy-Ass Tyrant Lives.  Lord Rakzoon sentences the pair to torture and death.  One of the troopers pistol whips Pockets and calls him a rodent.  Lord Rakzoon sentences that trooper to death.  No one should be called a rodent.

Lord Rakzoon is told by another trooper that the pair was here to deliver him an item.  So they shall still be tortured but not killed.  The trooper is still going to be killed, for name calling.

In private, Lord Rakzoon opens a cage and sees Groot!  I do like how Lord Rakzoon asks who he is, setting Groot up to say, I am Groot!  Poor Groot, someone has gone and craved random words into his bark.

Last issue didn’t end with a cliffhanger, like I thought it did.  Instead, we are treated to a done-in-one issue.

The “Hills of Thoron.”  A group of heroes are playing a non-copyright infringement version of Dungeons & Dragons.  I wish we got a page with the in-game character with the comic character, so we know who is who.  Magik is the blonde with the giant sword, so that makes sense.  She’s the only one that matches but Illyana essentially is a sweet D&D character.

Rocket is the main wizard and Tony Stark is the green goblin.  Tony, like the douchebag that he is, is the traitor of the group.

Since Tony doesn’t quite get the game, he turns into Giant Iron Goblin and ruins the game.

They were in a conference room the whole time.  The other heroes are – Deadpool, Rocket, Thor, Magik, Tony, Beta Ray Bill, Pixie, Wanda, maybe Squirrel Girl or Ms. Marvel (she’s the only character I don’t immediately recognize), FalCap, Miles Morales Spider-Man and Groot.

Tony is still trying to defend his traitorous turn but Rocket is upset that he isn’t playing right.

They try to start another round of the game but this time, Magik is the traitor!  Instead of ruining it, she’s totally awesome at it!

Magik leaves as playing with demons is much preferred to this table top game.  I wouldn’t mind seeing this group of heroes hang out, without Tony being around.

Tony and Rocket get into an argument which ends with Rocket agreeing to join Tony’s Fantasy Football game.

Rocket and Groot are on their way to a planet that is an entire football field.  Rocket has spent most of the day reading up on stats.  Instead, they play football

The Coach, who may be the Character Find of 2016, is all about heart and he is super fun!

Rocket ends up winning the game, which makes sense.  Now Tony has to play the wizard game, Rocket’s way.

I do like Skottie Young as a writer, this should be fun to see him on writing chores but not also on art.

Rocket Raccoon Groot V2 3 Recap Page

Fun way to do a recap page, with Rocket explaining the story as a campfire tale.  Earlier in the series Rocket and Groot are presumed dead, the Guardians put on a funeral.  Kitty was there, so I now have to track down the first issue of this series.  Hopefully Hastings owns several of those, as it is the first issue, I’ll find out on Saturday.  In reality, they’re back in time and in space.  I guess they were always in space – but are we all not in space?

Last issue, Groot is on an alien planet and becomes the prisoner of Lord Rakzoon, who is Rocket – but without the memory of Groot.  This wouldn’t be so bad, but Rakzoon doesn’t recognize Groot, and his favorite thing to do is sentence folks to death.

The guards are making fun of Groot. Groot says his name, like he always do, but it doesn’t phase Lord Rakzoon.  Rakzoon does recognize Groot’s language.

Rocket goes into what happened, I guess this series spins out of Rocket Raccoon 5 – thanks Jake T, the editor.  I also guess that Rocket recognizes Groot now.  Rocket ousted the old dictator, by tricking the inhabitants that Rocket was worst than the last guy.  While explaining all of this to Groot, the guards don’t take kindly to be tricked.  Rocket and Groot make short work of the guards.  Rocket always has a plan.

After the guards are dealt with, the previous dictator arrives – as Rocket clearly didn’t murder the guy.  He has a mouse companion and a fuzzy green guy.  The previous guy’s name is Nasoj.  The shrub fellow can only say “me are shrub.”  The mouse’s name is Pockets.

We get the face off of Pockets v Rocket and Shrub v Groot.  Pocket, is a possum, it turns out.

Nasoj tells the guards to kill all four of them, which Pocket didn’t see that coming.  Oh I get it, Possum + Rocket = Pocket.  Pretty clever, Young!  Pocket is also known for having a plan.  The four start running away.

Eventually.  They locate Pocket and Shrub’s ship.  Pocket doesn’t want our heroes to come with them but after a fight, Rocket takes their ship and flees.  Pocket swears revenge!

Shortly after Rocket left Groot on the Desert Planet.  I guess enough time has passed that the Guardians (including Star Lord Kitty Pryde) put on a funeral for Groot.  In comics, I just assume that a full year has to pass before one suspects a person to be dead.  That’s just me, people fall into pocket dimensions all of the time.

Those yellow captions are pretty funny!

Issue ends with the team being reunited.  Rocket suspects that Quill is in the coffin.

The tradition of opening each issue with a song, continues.  This one is largely about Cyclops – which is nice.

This issue picks up where the last issue ended, with the Guardians of the Galaxy becoming the third group for the twins to choose from.

Cyclops and Iron Man are yelling at each other.  The X-Men turned the twins into temporary mutants, when they were like that, they broke Iron Man’s new suit of armor. Captain America shows everyone that Wolverine is an Avenger.  This annoys Cyclops, so much!  Check out that look from Cyclops to the ashamed Wolverine, so great.

We get the impression that the Guardians are not going to fight anyone, for the twins.

Iron Man asks the twins who they want to join.  Just then, a fourth group arrives.

The pull out ads are for – Extraordinary X-Men, Guardians of the Galaxy, Spider-Gwen, Spider-Woman and Silk.  Pretty decent synergy with the Spider-Folks being the inside fold.  I’m only interested in the first two issues but I’m super interested in them.

The Inhumans have arrived.  There are a couple I don’t recognize.  I do know Lockjaw, Triton (I had to look it up, but it is like the father in Little Mermaid), Black Bolt and Gorgon.  So I don’t recognize anyone on the right side of the page.  The Inhumans are the Royal Family of Marville.

The Inhumans tree house is right next door to the Avengers, making them the middle tree house.  Cyclops is not impress, and I’m not either.  Cyclops, who is very funny in this series, goes on about how the Inhumans like to say the word, Royal, as much as possible.  Medusa will use the word, at least ten more times, before the issue is over.

Good for Lockjaw for not allowing Medusa to further hurt Cyclops, good dog!

Medusa wants to show the twins something that will prove that the Inhumans are the group to join.

This sequence is so great. Skottie Young gets to really lampoon Inhumanity.  The combined kids come across two unsuspecting kids.  A green cloud downpours on top of them, and they are in those green eggs, from the crossover.

I love how pleased Medusa is, and then how much this will eventually backfire on her.  It takes so long for the kids to hatch out of the cocoons.

Those poor two children, they are now Inhumans, gorgeous looking Inhumans.  The twins want the newly created Inhumans to be set on fire.

Cyclops and Magik are laughing so hard, this was the worst decision the Inhumans could have made.  Black Bolt does not like the laughter at all, probably due to being jealous that they can even let out a chuckle.

Black Bolt screams at Cyclops, knocking him a great distance, into a statue of God Doom.  Poor Scott is messed up, and to make matters worst, Doom’s head falls off and lands on Scott’s noggin.

This brings the Avengers and the X-Men together, as Black Bolt was way over the line.  The Guardians really don’t have any interest, anymore, in any of this.

Everyone starts yelling at each other.  The twins want this to stop, as they have no interest in any of the four fractions.

The kid heroes are not done fighting, at all.

We are treated to an epic double splash page sequence.  Marvel has to sell this as a poster!  It is amazing!

Everyone else seems to be floating in space but involved in one sided fights, that I can’t quite make out who they are directed at.

The other pull out ad is for Invincible Iron Man 1 & 2 with Spider-Man 2099 and Chewbacca, four titles I can’t even bring myself to be interested in.  Though Gerry Duggan and Phil Noto, on Chewbacca, is a good creative team.

Zoe closes her eyes and is about to randomly picked a group, when a blur picks up the twins.  There is a fifth group!

Magneto was the blur and he welcomes them to the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.  Loki points out that they are not mutants, so they should go by – Brotherhood of Evil.  Mystique points out that they are not all dudes, so they should go by – Fellowship of Evil.  Except, she doesn’t like how ‘Fellowship’ sounds boyish.

The twins look like they should be somebody, in red shirts and tights with black boots, gloves, shorts, capes and masks.    The Zs make me think they are, Fenris, Baron Strucker’s children.  That isn’t it though, but it is interesting that Fenris’ first names start with A and these twins are Z names.

Such an amazing series!

The issue opens with the theme song getting weaker and lazier.  There is a fun editor note, stating that Young has been punished.  The twins, Zoe and Zack, are going to visit both Clubhouses, the X-Men get to go first.

The X-Men have a 400 inch television, that is in 6-D, so Fing Fang Foom, can come out of the television set to kill them.  Iceman has made a very dangerous roller coaster.

Look how cute Kitty and Lockheed are, in that top panel!  I love it so much!

Wolverine is trying to sell the fastball special, as not being dangerous but it really is!

Beast turns Zoe into a Hulk like character and Zack is turned into a mouse.

The final stop on the tour, is the Danger Room!  Zoe handles herself well.  Magik gets to make an appearance, so she is three for three!

Avengers Clubhouse.  Iron Man isn’t sure why everyone loves the X-Men’s training simulation room.  Cap has to explain that is is because it is called, Danger!  Iron Man reverses Beast’s transformation.

On the page that has the Capture the Flag game, does anyone else have black ink spots on the rope, next to Hawkeye?  It doesn’t look like part of the page.  As there are light ink spots on the opposite page.

The clubhouse is also connected to Asgard.  Captain America has a sad fitness room, but they have to pass it so that they can go into the super bouncing room, that Spider-Man provides with his webbing.  Wolverine is in the room too, as they let anyone be Avengers.

Iron Man has made a special suit of armor, so that the twins’ minds can control, at the same time.  Zoe tries to explain that twins’ minds don’t work like that.  Their duel brains make the armor blow up.

The twins are rocketed out of the clubhouse.  They end up in the hand of Galactus, who has Thanos in his other hand.  I imagine this is the Proper Thanos.  Thanos reveals that their sky has a ceiling, that is invisible.  Which has been a question that I’ve had, about Battleworld.  If you fly high enough, wouldn’t you see the giant walls that keeps the regions apart?  Apparently, there are invisible barriers.

Issue ends with the Guardians of the Galaxy, making a play for the twins to join their team.  Which, on the opposite page, has an ad for the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy cartoon, coming to Disney XD, September 26.

Issue four has Illyana’s soulsword on the cover, so I’m for sure committed to the next issue.

The issue opens with another theme song.

The kids are about to pick sides, for dodgeball.  The team captains are Captain America and Cyclops.  Cyclops keeps the eye puns going but Cap gets to choose first.

Once the sides are chosen, Cap announces that it looks like it will be Avengers v X-Men.  I love Storm’s sarcastic comment about how picking players was pointless.  Captain America is taken out first, and cheaply.

Iron Man tries to gets Cyclops out, but he optic blasts the ball away.  Hawkeye throws a dodgeball arrow, and they smashes his visor and Cyclops starts blasting dudes.   Iceman, seeing that non-regulation dodgeballs are allowed, starts making ice-dodgeballs.  The first one sends Hawkeye througha  wall.  Now that the rules have been broken, Black Widow declares it is war, now.

I like how the rivalry of Magik and Iron Man, is continued.  Colossus is throwing balls at Captain America, and one of those ricochets back to Iceman’s face.  Hulk gets five balls, successfully, thrown at him.  I’m not quite sure where Rogue is throwing a ball towards.

The recess bell rings and Colossus is laid out.  I adore that the Daredevil is blind running gag continues.  Colossus threatens to deal with Captain America, after school.  Xavier, their teacher, introduces the new students, the twins.

The twins’ names are – Zachary & Zoe, which I don’t believe are known characters.  The students get to ask a few questions.  Cyclops wants to know if they are mutants, they are not.  Captain America asks if they have ever been lost in time, but they are not.  Spider-Man asks if they have ever been bitten by an insect or animal, they have not.  Arcade gets a ‘yes’ out of them, as they do enjoy playing video games BUT they are not interested in playing a game titled, Murderworld.  Which makes sense.

The final bell rings, and Xavier reminds them of their homework – five pages on the Kree-Skrull War, also this is Friday so the rest of the series could take place over the weekend.  I like that we get to see that the villains go to this school too, but the ‘heroes’ are so distracted with each other.

Cyclops and Iron Man, both, invite the twins to their respected secret clubhouses.  Captain America tries to entice them with free A-Phones.  Cyclops offers Bamfs, but Nightcrawler objects to this.

Later.  Venom goes home, Doctor Strange goes home.  Ghost Rider tells his parents that Xavier told him to not exact vengeance, during social studies.  Beast’s mother wants him to take a bath but he’s too busy trying to ruin interdimensional space.  Namor is feeding his pet fish.  Uatu the Watcher would like his father to quit watching him, as he sleeps – which is my favorite of these gags.

The Next Day.  The X-Men and Avengers Secret Clubhouses are about ten feet from each other, both up in trees.  Cyclops is having Storm and Rogue put out a Welcome banner.  Iron Man and Black Widow make fun of the pre-school craft project.  Black Widow goes as far as to say that she is surprised that macaroni wasn’t used.  Just then, the terrible Colossus, shows up with craft supplies – including macaroni, which embarrasses Cyclops.

Iron Man shows off the Avengers fancy Welcome screen.  Cyclops goes for a low blow and attacks Iron Man’s father for being rich and that’s why the Avengers can afford all of these bells and whistles.

Zachary and Zoe, having different directions, realize that they are heading in the same location.  There is a giant explosion and they look over the hill to see what is happening.  Which is a giant battle, with explosions all around.  Cyclops and Iron Man are fighting each other, Angel is flying after Falcon.

Issue ends with Wanda taking out Cable.

The third issue cover has a fight cloud and we see Illyana’s soulsword so I will be buying that issue – for sure.

All New X-Men 1 – All New X-Men 41

41 issues, all written by Brian Michael Bendis!  It should be stated that Cory Petit lettered every issue as well, which is pretty impressive to keep the same letterer for an entire series.

The series ran from, cover dated, January 2013 to August 2015

Since this was the main flagship title, sharing the honor with Uncanny – a lot took place in this series.  This is the series where the time misplaced Original Five X-Men starred.  Crossover overs storylines were – Battle of the Atom / Trial of Jean Grey / Black Vortex.  Other storylines include the much demanded sequel to Battle of the Atom, the Ultimate Adventure and the Utopians arc.

I had to add the Ramos variant to my Wishlist.

I really really adore this comic!  That Skottie Young knows how to make a great comic!

The issue opens with a wonderful theme song, that I hope someone is making.

The first real segment of the issue is the terrific Magik v Iron Man four page sequence.

Iron Man tries, mistakenly so, blow Magik off.  He destroyed a beloved action figure of his.  She calls him on his nonsense.  Cap takes her side, as he should!

Skottie Young really gets that Magik is unstoppable, and really only allows the X-Men to take advantage of her assets.  She has summoned a demon from Limbo and is taking care of the Avengers.

The only Avengers missing from this page, that are also in Avengers : Age of Ultron, are Vision and Quicksilver.  At first, I thought only Quicksilver was missing but that makes sense that these Avengers would be the ideal team for Young to use.

Whereas, he seems to have full range of X-Men to use, which I am all for.

Iron Man keeps losing points with her, calling her beloved toy pony, a doll.  She corrects him, it is an action figure.

I do like how their fight ends, only because it is dinner time.  It is Tuesday, so it is pizza night and the pizza is coming from Da Vinci’s.  They have good sausage there.

Magik thanks Bob, the demon, for the assist.

Hawkeye comments on how Magik’s house is on fire.

The rest of the issue is a case for escalation.  Blob and Toad are trying to get some lunch and the X-Men and Avengers keep trying to offer better food.

Cyclops has Storm rain out Iron Man’s food truck.

Giant Size Little Marvel AvX 1 Poor Blind Daredevil

Cyclops has his hot dogs at the ready.  People are ordering from Cyclops.  There is a great gag (that always makes me laugh) with Daredevil ordering nowhere near where he should be.  I know Chris Giarrusso often used it, I’m not sure if Hembeck ever did it,

Cyclops really likes his eye related puns, no one else in the comic likes them but I’m all for them.

Giant Size Little Marvel AvX 1 Big Fight

All of this one-upmanship escalates to a big fight. We get some fun match ups.

Cyclops v Captain America, of course.  Wanda is fighting Rogue, who is unimpressed.  Iceman v Hulk.  Colossus v Thor, which is pretty one sided.  Storm v Hawkeye & Black Widow, also one sided.  Iron Man v Wolverine.

We also get Archangel v Falcon.

Captain Marvel and Namor are concern about Cable and Bishop, both from the future, using giant guns.

The issue ends with everyone going home, but before they do, they meet a pair of twins, who I don’t recognize.  They will most likely the series villains.

Odd that both Cyclops and Cap think twins are cool.  What are they basing that off of?  Wanda and Pietro?  Northstar and Aurora?  The Stryker twins?  They really are not.
