Essential X-Men Volume Four

Essential X-Men Volume Four

Collecting Uncanny X-Men 162 – 179, plus Annual 6

So far, it is the only collection that has the entire Paul Smith run.  There is the trade, From the Ashes, but it starts at 168 and ends at 175.  It is in color, which is nice but it lacks the first three issues of Smith’s run.

Essential X-Men Volume Four is in black and white but the art really stands out.

This is Chris Claremont running on all cylinders and the stories are simply the best.

Whenever I can recommend a trade, this is always on the top of my list.  I read somewhere that the Essential trades are going out of print so this may become an expensive trade but until Marvel releases a Paul Smith Visionaries, this is as good as it gets.  And it is pretty grand.

Uncanny X-Men Volume Three Issue 34

Uncanny X-Men V3 34

Writer Brian Michael Bendis

Art Kris Anka

Color Art Marte Gracia

Lettering & Produciton VC’s Joe Caramagna

Delhi, India.  Cyclops is confronting Mystique, who is on a bit of a vacation from herself.  She is enjoying being a Bollywood star.  Mystique starts playing mind games, to try to seduce him.  She takes the forms of Emma, Dark Phoenix and Wolverine.  Scott has had sex with two of those three.

Scott wants to know why Mystique has been so all over the place, since Xavier’s death.  There was a time when she was the villain of four different titles – all at the same time.  Get it together, Mystique!  She would be committing minor crimes in one title and these massive month long plans.

SHIELD Hellicarrier.  Maria Hill and Dazzler are having a nice chat.  Dazzler never technically quit and Hill never technically fired Dazzler, so she is still a member of SHIELD in good standing.

The first of two pull out house ads for Secret Wars 2015 3 – of the titles featured, I’m only excited about Star Lord and AoA Kitty Pryde!

Dazzler wants help in seeking out Mystique.  Dazzler will help but she wants full clean records for the New Xavier School students.

Mystique and Cyclops.  Mystique asks Scott why he hasn’t brought up their affair together, which caused me to pause.  He says it is because he wanted to keep this conversation on point but this is all she needed to know that this is not Cyclops.

Scott has been Dazzler, this entire issue!  The New Xavier Students and Dazzler make short work of Mystique.

Uncanny X-Men V3 34 Magik 1

Mystique is pushed through the window and will surely die.  Dazzler asks Magik to save the foe.  Poor Magik, this is Bendis’ only role he uses her for.

The second pull out house ad for Secret Wars 3, has several more titles that I’m interested in – Giant Size Little Marvel : AvX, Years of Future Past and X-Tinction Agenda.

Uncanny X-Men V3 34 Magik 2

Magik keeps her word but makes sure that Mystique has a rough drop.  Mystique recognizes that Dazzler is better than her as she would have let Dazzler die.

Dazzler gets on a stage, later, and sings.  Maria Hill, after the show, admits to being a huge fan of hers.  Dazzler needs to be the mutant liaison as she is better suited for it than anyone.

Greenvich Village, New York City.  The former students of Cyclops are all outside.  Celeste reads Hijack’s mind and wants him to reveal his thoughts to the group.  He has an idea that they don’t need to be the X-Men but they need to do something.

The answer will be in Uncanny X-Men 600, which is strangely going to come out after Secret Wars 2015’s final issue instead of properly being done before the event.  Which is so odd as Marvel should be going with a fresh start with the X-Titles instead, they are going to launch with the final issue of Bendis’ X-run and that is all he will be contributing to the line.  Seems so dd to me.

Marvel Microheroes

Fair warning, this is a website that can suck all of your day away!

http://marvel-microheroes.wikia.com/wiki/Marvel-Microheroes_Wiki

The reason I looked them up was for how many different outfits Ultimate Shadowcat has had :

http://marvel-microheroes.wikia.com/wiki/Shadowcat_%28Ultimate%29

Which I do like how this site keeps track of even the slightest change.

Here is Lockheed’s Page :

http://marvel-microheroes.wikia.com/wiki/Lockheed

Shadowcat’s Page

http://marvel-microheroes.wikia.com/wiki/Shadowcat_%28Katherine_%22Kitty%22_Anne_Pryde%29

Ariel’s Page

http://marvel-microheroes.wikia.com/wiki/Ariel_%28Kitty_Pryde%29

Sprite’s Page

Magik’s Page

http://marvel-microheroes.wikia.com/wiki/Magik_%28Illyana_Nikolievna_Rasputina%29

Doing a search reveals that they have separate pages for alternate universe ones, which is pretty cool but ooof, that must be time consuming!

Darkchild’s Page

http://marvel-microheroes.wikia.com/wiki/Darkchild_%28Illyana_Rasputina%29

Phoenix Five Page

http://marvel-microheroes.wikia.com/wiki/Phoenix_%28Illyana_Nikolievna/Phoenix_Force%29

They even have the evil Ogun!

http://marvel-microheroes.wikia.com/wiki/Ogun_Ryu

I really do like looking at Magik’s page – for instance – how if they wore any different variation or plain clothes outfit – they have a Micro-version of it!  That is commitment!

Master of Kung Fu Volume Two Issue 2

Master of Kung Fu 2

Writer Haden Blackman

Penciler Dalibor Talajic

Inker Goran Sudzuka

Colorist Miroslav Mrva

Letterer VC’s Travis Lanham

This series keeps getting better and better!

This issue opens with the origin of the name, Red Hand.  As the Master of the Red Hand laid dying and the Iron Fist Master held her, her hand was red.  The Master of the Red Hand clan, has never been the ruler of K’un Lun.

The story proper starts with Iron First, Laughing Skull and the third guy (Red Hood?) are interrogating a thug, Lester.  Lester’s old job was to track Shang Chi, he wasn’t very good at it.

We see Shang Chi is with the X-Men, in their underground base.  Which should make them Morlocks, especially with Callisto leading them – so I will try to call them that, going forward.  Though the story does refer to them as, Outcasts – but that name isn’t so great.

Shang Chi is still super drunk but he takes out Caliban, Wolfsbane and Doug Ramsey.

Master of Kung Fu 2 Shadowcat 1

Callisto, the best fighter of the bunch, gets a few hits off of Shang Chi – not like they even really connect – and is taken down.

Shang Chi is curious who trained these outcasts.

Master of Kung Fu 2 Shadowcat 2

Callisto tells him that they don’t have a Master, they were hoping to have him train them.

Shadowcat, the ever introductory character, goes around explaining why the Morlocks are outcasts.  Sarah needs to learn the Morrow technique, as her bones are just sticking out of her body.  Caliban is an idiot but is great at trivial facts, an idiot savant – if you will.

Wolfsbane was part of the Wolf Clan but fell for Cypher before she can learn to shift to different forms.  They are called, the Wolf Clan, so I wonder what other forms there would have been?  I imagine reverting back to human, is one of them.  Doug lost his left arm while defending Wolfsbane.  I do like these two, finally having a chance at romance.

Master of Kung Fu 2 Lockheed 1

Kitty’s aliment is that she tried to master a skill that is way outside of her comfort level.  Lockheed is next to her, but she doesn’t give any reasoning to why an awesome lengthy green dragon is with the team.

Callisto wants Shang Chi to train them, as he was his father’s greatest student.  He has mastered nine of the ten techniques.

Master of Kung Fu 2 Lockheed 2

This may be the most brutal page of the issue, perhaps the series.  Shang Chi straight up cuts the team up, with his words and they sting!

If Shang Chi was to teach the outcasts – like how his father, Zheng Zu, would – this is what he would do :

Zheng Zu would flay Sarah alive, making her look at her bones
Caliban would fight even simpler creatures, like donkeys, for Zu’s enjoyment
Wolfsbane and Cypher would be tortured, together, until one of them would denounce their love for the other.  Shang Chi suspects it would be Doug.
Callisto, he would completely blind her – as if she can’t defend one eye, she doesn’t deserve either.
We see that Shadowcat is in permanent phase (of course) and she will be forced to watch her friends die

I like how he drops the bottle, like it was a microphone.  Shang Chi out!

The Citadel of Emperor Zheng Zu.  Zu punishes Razor Fist (the leader of the small gang from the first issue) by slicing off Razor Fist’s hands – intense!

Iron Fist, Laughing Skull and the still not renamed guy come before Zu.  A guard, Norrin (who I imagine is Silver Surfer, with the silver word balloons.  Norrin is about to express how much they failed at their task to find Shang Chi but Iron Fist wants to tell his own woes.

Iron Fist is going to challenge Zu in the Thirteen Chambers tournament.  Laughing Skull reveals that Iron First is the sheriff of this region.

Callisto is brought before Zu, she is willing to reveal where Shang Chi is but she wants to become a member of the Ten Rings.

Master of Kung Fu 2 Shadowcat 3

Shadowcat comes and wakes up a very drunk Shang Chi.

Master of Kung Fu 2 Shadowcat 4

Iron Fist is leading the charge in the Morlock tunnel.  He straights threatening Wolfsbane, Shang Chi knows that Iron First is a man of peace, so he is merely bluffing.

Cypher comes running at Iron First, as poor Doug doesn’t know that Iron Fist is bluffing.

Master of Kung Fu 2 Shadowcat 5

Classic Doug, once again, dies trying to save Wolfsbane – bonus points for once again, that she wasn’t in any danger, this time either.  Oh poor dead Doug.

Laughing Skull turns his attention to Caliban next.

Master of Kung Fu 2 Lockheed 3

Shang Chi prevents this attack and tells the Morlocks to escape.

Shang Chi uses the technique, Nightbringer, to cloud the room in mist and they all escape.

Master of Kung Fu 2 Lockheed 4

Later.  Kitten is disappointed in Shang Chi’s lack of action earlier.  Shang Chi is still broken from killing a master.

Master of Kung Fu 2 Lockheed 5

Shang Chi will become a master, he will make the Morlocks his students so that he can have his own school, that way he can enter the Thirteen Chambers.

I can only imagine the tournament issue is going to be pretty intense!

Only three of my votes didn’t make the list.  Which makes sense, as I had a higher chance of getting more on the list with 75 options.  Plus, I knew the three that didn’t make the list, wouldn’t make the list.

X-Men Apocalypse Trailer

Posted by John Klein III on January 12, 2016
Posted in: Fun With YouTube. Tagged: Apocalypse, YouTube. Leave a comment

Thanks to 20th Century Fox for hosting the video!

I’m super late on this but I figured better late than never.

This trailer actually looks pretty good, and I think Singer has a good grasp on Apocalypse.

Is it me or does Sophie Turner not look great as Jean Grey?  I’m sure I’ll come around but those opening shots are not flattering to her.

Always great to see X-Men in live action.

So glad to see Rose Byrne back.

I didn’t recognize Lucas Till as Havok, for the longest time.  I had to look at the cast list to figure it out.  Its all that long hair he has!  I can’t wait for the scene with him and Tye Sheridan, as Cyclops.  I wonder if the two will have a quick fight or not.

Makes perfect sense that they would have Jennifer Lawrence not be Blue Mystique, as much as possible – with her Oscar and her hating the make up process.  Perfectly understandable.

So thrilled to see Nightcrawler and Jubilee, again!

I really do need to see more Michael Fassbender films.

Alexandra Shipp, on the other had, looks incredible as 80s Mohawk Storm!

Strong hints that Storm, Magneto, Psylocke and a fourth person – are the Horsemen.

I wonder if we’ll get a bunch more Quicksilver in this?  I know people loved his scenes from Days of Future Past.

Am I the only one who wasn’t expecting Archangel in this?  All we are missing is Iceman and we can have the Original Five in a movie!  I’m hoping they can sneak in him in there, but he’ll just be a baby but I want it so much!

I know people are not liking how Apocalypse is looking but he looks good to me, in those brief shots.  That voice is dead on, though.

I’ll never stop being taken back by images of the Twin Towers still standing.

How great is that final shot sequence?

X-Men Apocalypse Xavier 1

X-Men Apocalypse Xavier 2

 Pretty flipping great!

Thanks to Tumblr user, youncehaunted, for the two images!

Surprised they only went with showing us Olivia Munn’s beautiful face but they could have given us some extended scenes with her in the classic Psylocke ninja costume –

Olivia Munn Psylocke Costume

There is a special place in heaven for Louise Mingenbach, the costume designer for making the above possible!

Years of Future Past 1

Writer Marguerite Bennett

Artist Mike Norton

Colorist Fco Plascencia

Letterer VC’s Joe Caramagna

Cover by Art Adams and Paul Mounts

I had to add the Norton variant to my Wishlist.

Thus far, this is my favorite series under the Secret Wars 2015 umbrella.

Years of Future Past 1 Recap

Instead of being a series that takes place after the original storyline, this series takes place years prior to the original story.  All of this is based off of few captions from Uncanny X-Men 141 –

Uncanny X-Men 141 Kate Pryde 4-1

So any new characters that we are taken with, we know their eventful state.  So there is an element of heartbreak with this title.  This is one of the more bleak series, I would add Inferno to that list.

Years of Future Past 1 Christina Pryde 1

Thanks to Marguerite Bennett’s X-Position at Comic Book Resources –

http://www.comicbookresources.com/article/x-position-bennett-crafts-a-war-torn-coming-of-age-story-in-years-of-future-past

We know this character isn’t Kitty Pryde, but her daughter – Christina Pryde!  So much of these first few pages are reminiscent of Uncanny X-Men 141.

Years of Future Past 1 Christina Pryde 2a Years of Future Past 1 Christina Pryde 2b

New York City.  Christina is thinking back to how the world use to be, I imagine she doesn’t have any first hand memory of it.  Everything was fine until mutants showed up, then humans decided to blow up the world. Which is never a good idea.  Christina, like her mother, is an optimist.

Years of Future Past 1 Christina Pryde 3

Somehow, she is attacked by a tiger!  Good thing Wolverine is there to save her.  Good job of Bennett to not have it be three tigers to match the number of rogues.

Wolverine isn’t sure why no one has eaten the tigers, with food being so scarce.  He makes a reference to barbecue sauce but she doesn’t know what that is.  She is looking for medicine and the tiger is there as all three are in the Bronx Zoo.

Wolverine calls her, Chrissie, but she wants to be called, Christina – so that’s what I’m going with.  Wolverine remembers changing her diapers so he gets to call her anything that he wants.  With her being (maybe) 18 – I bet she is 14 to match her mother’s first appearance – that makes sense.

Christina asks about Cameron, the son of Wolverine – but he got tangled up.  Logan has a nose for trouble but Cameron only has a taste for it.

Years of Future Past 1 Christina Pryde A

Christina shows Logan that she is the nice blend of her parents, through her words.  Logan teases her and she calls him, a jerk, classic Pryde!

Christina asks Logan for his honest opinion, if he truly believes the flatscans will reverse the Mutant Control Act.  He hints at how many mutants were killed in the first wave and now the rest are in internment camps.  Logan tells Christina that she was the last mutant born.  Mutants are sterilized now.

Christina leaves Logan’s side and tries to get back to her parents.  She sees a few rogues, militia and more tigers.

Years of Future Past 1 Christina Pryde 4

A sentinel finds her but its mode of community seems pretty casual.

There is a SuperHeroStuff.com ad for a hero box that offers $70 worth of product for only $49, which sounds awesome.  We tried, for Walker Dennis, a similar program called – Citrus Lane, which is a more affordable $30 but the items are not as awesome as superhero related merchandise.

The Sentinel is about to open palm blast when Kate Pryde jumps in front of Christina.  The Sentinel calls Kate Pryde, Mutant 187 and she was instrumental to capturing mutants 234 & 339, ten years ago.  I imagine the identities of these mutants will be important, later.

Years of Future Past 1 Kate Pryde A

Christina wants to know if there is any news on Storm, but there are no new graves.  Sentinels give everyone numbers but once the mutant dies, they get to have their mutant names placed on their tombstone.

What the Prydes were looking for are chemicals to dissolve the suppression collars.

Colossus reveals that it has been 15 years since they have been in this camp.  Magneto promised Christina that he would make her a metal pony that gallops.

Meanwhile, aboard Air Force Once.  President Robert Kelly wants to scare his fellow flatsfcans into not revolting the act.  Kelly orders two folks, Martinez & Foster, to get some footage to remind idiots why they want to hate mutants.

South Bronx Mutant Internment Center.  Kate and Rachel are having a chat.  Kate references Xavier giving her a chemical set when she was fourteen.  Rachel says, Doom rest his soul, which I do like how the books all respect that Doom is the god of Battleworld.  They repeat that Christina was the last mutant birth before music was banned, the famine and the sterilizations.

Rachel goes around melting the collars.

Years of Future Past 1 Kate Pryde 1

The X-Men get out and Sentinels are quick to try to shut them down.  Did they keep their uniforms?

The X-Men make short work of a Sentinel.  In its final moment, it eye beams Christina.

Years of Future Past 1 Christina Pryde B

This event is enough to trigger Christina’s mutant gene.  She takes after he father though she reminds me more of Plantium of DC’s Metal Men.

Her parents thought that the collars would have made it impossible for Christina’s mutation to kick in but life always finds a way.

Later.  New Kent Military Base.  We see Iron Man on a pole, run through the middle.  The two government aides wake Mystique and Blob, the two mutants Kate Pryde turned in.  These two villains have been asleep for the past 15 years.

The X-Men are not leading to other mutants, to free them – they are heading towards a virus that can affect Sentinels.

We learn this region’s in-universe title is – United Doomstates Government.

Years of Future Past 1 Christina Pryde C

Christina is the best choice to make this new plan work.  Kate is not happy that her daughter is being burden with the task.  Just like in the original story, a young Pryde is being tasked with the bulk of the mission.  They want a photo op of Christina saving President Kelly.  Christina is up for the task.

Rachel senses that Storm is alive, she tells Christina to head towards the Baxter Building, where Kelly will be.  They have to find Wolverine.

Years of Future Past 1 Kate Pryde B

A building is about to collapse and the X-Men start saving the humans who are now in danger.  Mystique and Blob show up and accuse Kate of betraying her own kind.  She doesn’t know what they are talking about, so maybe those two are not the ones that she turned in.

The government aides are filming the mutant on mutant battle.

Just then, Logan and Cameron arrive.

Years of Future Past 1 Kate Pryde C

Wolverine starts fighting Mystique.  Blob knocks out Christina and Cameron phases through Blob and rips him apart, so who is his mother?  Once he comes out of Blob, he is covered in green, making me think he also resembled a Metal Man.

Christina can’t believe that Cameron just straight up killed Blob.  I have no guesses on who Cameron’s mother is.

Years of Future Past 1 Kate Pryde D

Issue ends with the new Green (Doom inspired?) Sentinels on their way.

Such a great first issue!  Can’t wait for the rest of the series!

Everything I know about the original X-Tinction Agenda comes from UncannyXMen.net –

http://uncannyxmen.net/story-arc/extinction-agenda

The original series took place over nine issues – Uncanny X-Men 270, 271, 272 / New Mutants 95, 96, 97 / X-Factor 60, 61, 62.

Since it took three months to print three issues of each, the Uncanny X-Cast covered it over three of their episodes

Episode 151 –

So now you know what I know about the original crossover.  Oh, and that final storyline of X-Men Forever 2 with Ro and Ultimate Storm that dealt with Storm’s portion of the crossover.

So let’s enjoy this for what it is.

X-Tincton Agenda 1 Recap

So this is another one of those “years later” miniseries, along with Inferno.  The Legacy Virus is just now effecting Genosha.

Genosha, then.  Cyclops and Havok are knocking Cameron Hodge out of action.  Wolfsbane tears off his head, finishing the threat.  The various X-Teams leave the island but Havok and Wolfsbane (and a few others) stay behind as those two want to make sure what happened in Genosha, never happens again.

Genosha, Now.  Havok and Wolfsbane have a team.  Those two and Chief Magistrate Anderson.  They are on day three of trying to break up a food riot.  Helping them are – Simon Locke “Bulletproof” power is being bulletproof.  Julio Esteban Richtor “Rector.”  Xi’an Coy Manh “Karma.”  And possible new mutant, Wicked, Ghost Summoner – who is freaking people out with ghosts of their past.

Xavier arrives and everyone is still in awe of him.  The riot disperses and there is a calm.  Xavier is really, Mystique, of course – as Xavier is dead.  Dr. Alous Kluge is still the Genegineer.  Wolfsbane wants to go to God Doom and get his permission to fix the Legacy Virus.

Doomstadt.  Doom turns down the offer of aid.  Strange casts the, Winds of Watoomb, and forces Wolfsbane back.  Doom tells Strange that mutants are the blight upon the world.  Which is odd that he even put them on Battleworld.

Wolfsbane is not happen and asks Rachel Grey for help as she is the Baron of this region of the planet.  Wolfsbane wants Triage and Rogue to be sent to Genosha.  With Rogue’s power, they can heal twice as many people.  Rachel doesn’t want to infect any more mutants, than necessary.  Which seems overly harsh but it falls under the whole, let a thousand die to let millions live.

X-Tincton Agenda 1 DoFP Graveyard

X-Topia Province.  X-City, Home of the X-Men.  Beast is convincing Rachel that the number game is the correct way to view this.  They walk by the graveyard that reminds me of the graveyard from Days of Future Past.

I don’t get how all of these X-Men died.  Like, how does Spider-Crawler work?  Was it more than three to five years?  I don’t see how Nightcrawler and Spider-Man both had kids and then they had a kid.

Genosha.  Havok and Wolfsbane are clearing having sex, so that’s a plus for Wolfsbane.  They come up with a plan that they are going to go grab Triage and Rogue.  Cyclops, who is dead, appears before Havok, as Wicked doesn’t quite have her power under control.  Ghost Cyclops asks Havok to not to abduct X-Men, as that didn’t work out so well in the original crossover.  Havok doesn’t listen and goes on with the mission, but with some regrets.

On the way there, we get a light scene with Havok checking in on Rictor (who isn’t gay yet) as there is a chance he can run into Boom Boom.

X-Tinction Agenda 1 Lockheed

X-City.  X-Pickup Baseball, Game No. 1,065.  We get to the page that got me to buy this issue.  Rogue is trying to strike out Kitty, who Wolverine claims is an easy out.  Lockheed is floating behind Kitty, and that is awesome!

So the Genoshians show up and ruin the game.  Big fights break out.

Rockslide points out how silly this is, as five against a hundred mutants, are not great odds for the invaders.  The big fight is merely a distraction.

Anderson calls the Genegineer. who is a little preoccupied as he is trying to bring Cameron Hodge back to life.

I’m not sure if I’m getting the next issue but the first issue was pretty interesting.

Post 925!

Thanks to olddominionVEVO for hosting the video.

My wife heard this song and wants it put on her iPod.  Once I can buy her another gift card, I’ll do so but I’m mostly putting this on here so that I can find it later.

It is sort of in the same vein of –

Uncle Kracker’s Follow Me

Thanks to unclekracker for hosting his videos.

A sweet little song about adultery.

I shouldn’t be worried, right?
