All New X-Men 1 – All New X-Men 41

41 issues, all written by Brian Michael Bendis!  It should be stated that Cory Petit lettered every issue as well, which is pretty impressive to keep the same letterer for an entire series.

The series ran from, cover dated, January 2013 to August 2015

Since this was the main flagship title, sharing the honor with Uncanny – a lot took place in this series.  This is the series where the time misplaced Original Five X-Men starred.  Crossover overs storylines were – Battle of the Atom / Trial of Jean Grey / Black Vortex.  Other storylines include the much demanded sequel to Battle of the Atom, the Ultimate Adventure and the Utopians arc.

Art Teams were –

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 9, 10, 11, 14, 16, 17, 18, 22, 23, 24, 26, 27, 28, 29 – Stuart Immonen, Wade Von Grawbadger, Colorist Marte Gracia and VC’s Cory Petit

Issue five, Inker Von Grawbadger had help from Craig Yeung and Gracia had help from Jason Keith.  Issues nine & ten, Gracia had help from Rain Beredo.  Issue twenty-nine, Gracia had help from Jason Keith.

6, 7, 8 – David Marquez on both pencils and inks, Gracia and Petit

12, 13 – Stuart Immonen, Wade Von Grawbadger, Colorist Rain Beredo and VC’s Cory Petit

15 – David Lafuente on both pencils and inks, Colorist Jim Campbell and VC’s Cory Petit

19 – Brandon Peterson on both pencils and inks, Colorist Israel Silva and VC’s Cory Petit

20 – Brandon Peterson and Mahmud Asrar shared art duties, Colorist Gracia returned and helped Silva and VC’s Cory Petit stuck around as well

21 – Brandon Peterson and legend Brent Anderson (did a few pages on his own) Silva colored Petersn’s pages and Campbell did the Anderson pages, VC’s Cory Petit did all of his own lettering

I’m pretty impress with myself for getting so many writers on my list, making it to the big list. I had Kelly Sue DeConnick but replaced her with Marguerite Bennett. I should have taken Kelly Thompson off the list and kept both of the other two but since Kelly worked on the list, I thought that wouldn’t be proper. PLUS, if Kelly did make the list, I wanted to be within the number that did vote for her but that clearly didn’t work out. I wonder if she got any votes or was I the main one.

I am still pretty embarrass that I left off Jo Duffy, she is such a great writer! She could have been ranked 19 if I had done it right!

Really surprised that DeConnick beat out Simone but I’m also surprised that Louise Simonson didn’t make it to the Top Three.

I thought that I would have had more lady artists make the big list but I also don’t really know any of them either, in terms of all popular they are and such. I believe that Sonia Oback may be like Rachel Dodson and doesn’t do pencils but mainly inks. I could be wrong on that.

Looking over the list, I’m not sure if any of these pairings have worked together.  Some would make pretty good creative teams, that’s for sure!

Women of Comics

Comics Should Be Good are running the votes for Top Female Comic Creators, and I just can’t up with ten writers and artists, I mostly know female colorists.  So I thought I would at least promote the creative women that I’ve grown fond of over the years.

Writers – Devin Grayson and Gail Simone, both are mostly DC writers but both have written for the X-Men or X-Related projects.  Kathryn Immonen is another great female writer as in Marjorie Liu.  Of course, Ann Nocenti needs to be named, fantastic editor but famous for her Daredevil run.  Also, legendary Louise Simonson.  Kim Yale is a good writer, as well.

I really need to learn more female creators.  I was hoping compiling this list would have given me ten names on both sides.  I know we can group Pencilers and Inkers together but that still doesn’t get me to ten.

I went through the 49 pages of Tags that I have on this blog and came up with the above names.

I need three more writers before I can make my list official.  That’s a lot more ladies than I thought I have read or seen their work.  I really only thought I knew a small handful but look at the artists, alone, is impressive.

I’m very excited about Simonson and Nocenti’s placement.  Actually, I want Liu to place highly on the list too, Immonen, I’ve only read the one thing of hers (AvX vs 6) and I’ve own a few issues of X-Men Evolution, written by Grayson, so I do want all five to be on the list.  I can only imagine that the Top Ten of both, will be dominated by American comic creators.  That just makes sense with who is voting on the list.

I felt bad for not including Marguerite Bennett so Kelly Thompson was nice enough to let me edit my list.  Good bye, DeConnick and hello Marguerite Bennett!  I thought it would be in poor taste to knock Kelly off of her own list, or keep her in the tenth slot, so I bumped her up one.  That’s the least I could do.

So thanks for that as I wouldn’t have been able to figure it out on my own!

The framing device is Present Day Beast is in bed, not able to sleep and the Watcher shows up.  So this is clearly a tie in to Original Sin but it doesn’t state that anywhere either.

Uatu, the Watcher shows him first all of these bad realities that he is responsible for.  Then he shows him some nice ones, the hard truth is that the nice ones can never occur because of Beast.  Not sure if it is all his fault or if Uatu is going to go to the other Illuminati members and showing them the error of their ways.  From what I’ve read in New Avengers, the Illuminati are destroying alternate Earths.  To save the Proper Marvel Earth but still.  That’s a lot of lost lives.

JG Jones gives us the parade, both Kitty and Lockheed are there.  Lockheed needs to be painted more often.

Maris Wicks does a great job of recapping the Kitty and Colossus relationship.  I even like the implied future too.  He even added a little Lockheed that I just noticed!

Jake Parker and Matthew Wilson, I am all for Magik being the Sorcerer Supreme.  When Bendis had Strange step down, I thought he was going in this route.  Instead he went with the ‘shocking’ Brother VooDoo.  It didn’t last.

Dan Hipp gives us some never before seen children of X-Men and Avengers hookups.  I am curious about Captain America and Magik’s son.  What must that relationship be like?  I imagine she dominates him, in every way.

Can’t believe Marvel got Paul Smith and Bob Wiacek to do a page and it doesn’t even feature Kitty nor Lockheed.  Instead, we get – Cyclops, Mimic, Scarlet Witch, Doctor Doom, Magneto, Nightcrawler, Captain America and Beast.

Still not interested in Original Sin.

Kitty nor Lockheed appear in the Dazzler story but at least they got on the cover.  And as we all know here at S&FwM, that’s all it takes for make this guy buy your comic.

Now I never made it official or anything, but today is my birthday and I thought it would be fun to do all of the 32nd issues that I have of various series in my collection.  Thanks everyone for being such good sports!  I thought it would be fun to just do it and see what the reaction will be.

Tomorrow begins Lockheed month!  And to my surprised, and I really should have thought about this ahead of time, the first several Lockheed posts will also be drawn by Paul Smith!  That’s two things!  So excited!
